Image different on different monitors/computers.

I recently edited some photos in PS that I'm having printed. I edited them at home & they looked perfect. I used Windows 7 PSCS3, if that matters. I went to school and used a computer in the library which is a MAC. I opened the photos up and they appeared different? Now I'm confused as to what they will look like when printed. I don't know if I should alter them again or not.

Learning about color management is a good idea if you have the time, but it sounds more than likely that this is just a difference in gamma between the Windows 7 machine at home and the mac machine at school.
If it's a school computer, the machine might be an older generation mac, and probably still uses a default display gamma of 1.8 instead of 2.2. Try this on the MAC machine:
Go to System Preferences > Displays > Color, then hit the [Calibrate...] button.
Click [Continue], then select 2.2 Television Gamma and click [Continue], then select Native or D65 and click [Continue], then name the profile (or leave with default name) and click [Continue], then click [Done].
See if this makes the images look better.

The example code Programmatic Printing of TestStand Reports - Modular contains a sequence that will convert an XML file to an HTML file given the XML file's path and the path to the stylesheet. It may need to be altered to fit with the modifications you have already made to the report generation routines, but I think it should definitely get you off on the right foot. Different applications on multiple computers

Hello, I was wondering if it is possible, with one subscription to Creative cloud (full), to install different applications on multiple computers:
I know i can use the apps on two computers with the same subscription but i would like to have one computer with all apps, a laptop with some apps (photoshop and illustrator) and another with apps for web...
Is that possible? Is the limitation global or only on a per installed application on a computer.

Lightroom not merging and sorting images from two different cameras - help please !!

Hi guys,
I need some help here. I've just imported a few thousands of images form two different cameras, however Lightroom simply sorts them by camera only. (i.e.. images from the first camera, all sorted by capture time, then come images form the second camera.)
The cameras are the same brand and model, times are synchronised, but the images refuse to merge and sort. I've tried putting them in the same folder and importing, but that doesn't do it either. I've been doing this for years and it all worked fine, till today. Does anyone know whats causing this, and how I can fix it?

View > Sort > Capture Time is checked, The cameras are in sync down to the second, and images from both have been merging and sorting fine for over two years, till today. Sort order is all set to capture time in all modes and views, but its still sorting first by camera.

Scroll shows differently on different size screen/monitors

Not possible. HTML page rendering is dynamic and it's normal that it looks different at different screen resolutions, in different browsers, different operating systems.... . If you must have a certain paragraph or line of text in view, use anchors in the code to jump to them immediately.

Create a DIV element and define its position to be fixed or static. Please check the help or some reference site on teh internet for CSS style definitions and attributes.

Images Change Colors between monitors while the UI stays the same

Hey! Im having an issue where photoshop changes the colors when I move the window between my monitors, seen here: http://sta.sh/04y5s60vf3j This isnt due to the monitors themselves being different, it actually changes after a few seconds of moving it inbetween the monitors. The left one has been callibrated with a spyder 3 elite which I no longer have access to. I applied the file with windows color management instead of the spyder utility. The second one is new, and it is not callibrated by anything, but instead was done by hand with the built in brightness/contrast/custom RGB settings. Both of them are very close to eachother, enough so for my tastes. but when photoshop changes what the image looks like, it's causing problems. Interestingly enough, when I disable callibration for the monitor on the left, the image does not change colors between monitors, but instead always appears as it does on the right. but then they don't match up and the whole screen looked washed out because it's uncallibrated, so that doesnt do me any good. Another interesting thing to point out, is when this image is saved as a .JPG, and viewed with firefox the image appears exactly like the monitor on the LEFT (which is my main monitor) despite the left monitor being the one that is force changed. does anyone have any suggestions? It also appears that windows photoviewer is behaving the same way, though firefox does not. Meaning when I open an image in all 3 on the left monitor, they look the same, but when opened on the right monitor, windows photo viewer and photoshop both display the image as brighter and redder than firefox does. This is frustrating, because it seems photoshop is changing the image with my callibration on my left monitor to match what it looks like on the web, which it does. but it doesn't do this for the right monitor, or when the left is uncallibrated. Another issue I can see with this is even if the UI is the same shade of gray, the images are different between the monitors because of this change. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Alright! So I reread through all this, poked at some things on the internet, and I'm going to attempt to summarize what would be a good solution for all this (And it seems, it still won't be perfect, but to get myself into the best environment I can for not messing with images for an hour trying to make them look nice before I post them to the web. I painted something yesterday on the cintiq, popped it over to my laptop screen and it just looked washed out and terrible.)
1. Get a X-rite EODIS3 i1 Display Pro, Callibrate laptop and cintiq. I do have the money to drop on something like this, especially if it's a time saver.
     Things I'm not sure about:
          a. There was a ton of complaints about the software not working when I checked reviews, but also a ton that said everything was great. most of them were mac users though.
          b. I'm not sure if problems would still be posed, even while calibrated, by me having a wide gamut monitor.
          c. I'm a terrible excuse for a human being and I think the colors showing up brighter on the wide gamut screen is pretty (I should just make my images this bright on a normal screen and there won't be any issues. >.>)
2. Set Firefox to color manage (easy enough)
3. Change my photoshop working space to sRGB (since they'll have been calibrated at this point)

Accept the fact that most of the people who look at my work will be doing so on a monitor that is almost certainly uncalibrated, and I can't control what they will see on my screen, but I CAN control if the colors are -actually- what I want them to be on any properly calibrated device. which is probably the best way to go anyways.
4. Make paintings, have fun.
Now, you two have been going on about all sorts of interesting things in here, and it seems that calibration issue run much much deeper than I ever thought. Do either of you have recommendations for how I should tweak this list of things to do or other things I can/ should do? I'm not currently a working professional, but if I have anything to say about it, I will be within a few years (I'm going to school for illustration and studying concept design on my own time) so it'd be useful for me to get into good habits now.

Lightroom 4.2 - Experiencing problems with images viewed on 2nd monitor

Hi All,
This problem seems to have started with my updating from 4.1 to 4.2. I have my second monitor set as Loupe - Normal and Fit. As I crop an image on my main monitor, the 2nd monitor view does not always change to the cropped view. If I switch to a different photo and then back to the one I just cropped, the 2nd monitor view will then show the cropped image, but it is almost always blurry. Sometimes I can click the image in the 2nd monitor view to change to a 1:1 view and it will look sharp, and then click again back to Fit and then it too will be sharp. Other times I get a message in the 2nd monitor view that says "no image selected" and bouncing back and forth between a different image will correct this.
This all started off with the majority, but not all cropped images showing as blurred and progressed to what I have described above. I seriously though I had a focus problem with my camera!
Is anyone else experinecing this since updating? Suggestions?

Updating images on a second monitor

I am sending 4 different fringe patterns to a second monitor using a VI whose front panel I've configured to open on that monitor. I'm then using a camera to capture these images. This works reasonably well with the exception that I am limited to updating the image every 200 millisecs before the camera image quality begins to degrade,although not all images are affected int he same way. The resolution on my second monitor is set to 1280 x 720 and the refresh rate is 60Hz. My graphics card is an nVidia K2000 quadro.
Ideally I would like to update the image every 100msecs and still obtain acceptable image quality. Any suggestions as to how I might be able to speed up my image display and capture without image degradation?

I'm not sure that I understand your suggestion. I am using the image in the subVI to display my fringe pattern on a second monitor. I don't want to create an image of my subVI front panel or save it anywhere. The for next loop in my subVI displays my sequence of fringe patterns in the image window which is expanded to fill the whole of the monitor. My second monitor is a pattern generator in effect.
There seems to be a limit as to how fast I can update the displayed image before I start to see image corruption from the camera. As of now I'm not sure what the root cause is. It could be that LV takes some time to send the image to the monitor, maybe it's windows not responding in a timely fashion to an instruction to update the image, maybe the it's the camera, the graphics card or the fact I'm using a subVI. Given that computer games must be updating monitors at high frequencies routinely I'm puzzled as to why a monitor update rate greater than once every 200 millisecs should be causing me problems.
Is there a way that LV can write an image directly to a monitor and bypass any delay brintroduced by windows?

Do you get consistent results with the same executable each time you
run it?
Assuming you do, and the only difference is the EXEs, what's the
difference between them - there must be something. Have a look at "How
to compare binary images of the same project builds"

Why same custom designed item looks different on different MIDP phones?

Same MIDP application looks different on different phones, which is obvious. But the sizes of custom items are also looks different, which is some thing trouble some. IE the custom designed button of size say 50 X 20, looks proper on BlackBerry MIDP phone, but same button looks very small [cant even recognize] on Nokia MIDP phone. Why it is so?
Is there any way to design items as per the phone dimensions? Regards.
Note: I want to get standard item size, font size etc. so that I can use them directly. In this case on every device the designed items will look proper

The look depends on mainly three things, the screen size, screen resolution and dpi. Although dpi is related to the ration of screen size and screen resolution. If the dpi is higher, the same image or item will look smaller than from a device which has a lower dpi. Like the iPhone and BB Bold both has almost identical screen resolution, however Bold has a higher dpi so the same image or a html page looks smaller on Bold than it is in iPhone.

File -> Export, and note the options under File Name
Another way:
Here's one (of several) way(s) to do what you want:
Make an Album of the photos, then drag the pics into your preferred order.
Then Photos Menu: Batch Change -> Set Title to Text "John's Birthday", for instance, and tick the box to append a number to each Photo. Now your photos are titled 'John's Birthday 001, John's Birthday 002 ... etc'
Then File -> Export and in the Export dialogue set the Filename to "Use Title"
Sort on Filename in the FInder and you end up with a folder full of images in the same order as the Album in iPhoto.

I launched the site and it looks great in safari, but had a friend look at it with explorer and the blue link boxes (the one that lets you know you have something linked in dreamweaver) are showing up on the interent explorer browser and I can only assume there are issues in other browsers as well. Frame looks different on different operating systems

I have written a swing application which creates a JFrame and displays some data on it that is picked up from an array which originally comes from a flat file.I would like to specify that the data is written on a non editable JTextArea. The positioning of each data is important as it has to fit within a range of space.My program uses Motif look and feel.But the problem is i had created this application on an Windows NT 4.0 platform but when tested on Windows 2000 the positioning of the data changes drastically.Is there someone out there who can pls help me fix this because otherwise the whole aplication makes no sense as it is going to be used on different platforms.

Could monitor resolution be a concern? I've had a similar problem for two years and that is the reason people always give me. Haven't put any research into whether or not it could be true.
Anyway, I was developing a gui applicaton on Windows NT using Motif Look and Feel and running the application on Irix (SGI's OS). Things looked horribly different.
The best solution I found was to restrict nothing. Every component on every display was set up so that it would size itself based upon the components inside it, etc, etc down to the most basic component. (A String in a TextArea on a JPanel on a JFrame). This took a bit of effort and worked relatively well, all the typical components looked fine on either system. I had to tweak a few custom components, but luckily I had that luxury.

Powerpoint renders slides slightly differently on different Macs

I have again this weird problem with Powerpoint.
Sometimes, slides look differently on different machines.
The difference is not very large, but definitely noticeable, in particular, if there are other objects on the slide besides the text.
For an example please see

The effect is most pronounced on the first line of bullet 2. (The "R^d" thing is an image.)
I created the PDFs using the print command in Powerpoint and then saving to PDF.
I created the PNG taking a screenshot.
As you can see, there are two problems:
1.
When I print the slide on the MacBook to PDF, the layout of the text is slightly different than on screen.
2.
The layout of the text looks different on both machines.
Both machines run Mac OS 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard).
The powerpoint versions on both machines are identical and up-to-date (12.2.3).
The powerpoint files on both machines are identical (just copied).
I use an in-house font on the slides, which is StoneSansITC; I copied the font files from one machine to the other; they all reside in ~/Library/Fonts, and this is the only place where these font files are located.
I have checked with 'pdffonts' and it seems to me that the Stone fonts are indeed correctly embedded in the PDFs. Here is the output of pdffonts:

In Powerpoint, I have checked File -> Properties -> Contents, and the list under "Fonts Used" shows the StoneSansITC fonts alright.
The compatibility report in Powerpoint does not report any issues with fonts (only a few warnings about animations, movies, and "some shapes cannot be changed in earlier versions ..").
Does anyone have an idea how I could resolve this differences in rendering?

Thread is behaving differently on different machines??

I am developing a Java Swing application, which launches an external exe.
Then I am using a Thread to monitor whether the launched exe is running or terminated abruptly by using its PID. If it terminates then the thread shows a msg box.
Everything works fine in my machine and in few other machines.
But the same thread stop abruptly on some other machines... and displays the msg box even though the exe is running correctly.
And I heard thread behaves differently on different CPUs'.
How to handle this situation??
Please help.

I'm not sure if this matters, but it appears that you are calling Swing methods off of the EDT beginning with "progressBar.setValue(0);". What happens if you wrap those calls in a Runnable and call them with SwingUtilities.invokeLater(...)?
