Image Direction Metadata Incorrect

It's really hit and miss with the image direction metadata.  I get a good GPS fix, but the direction is sometimes OK, sometimes off by as much as 180 degrees.
Can this be calibrated?
Is this something about how the phone needs to be handled prior to taking the shot?
Be nice if it worked properly...

Thank you so much for your time.
With Yahoo! Mail configued as the mailto app, selecting "Email image..." on the Firefox logo on the Mozilla site, this is what gets dropped into the compose window in Yahoo! Mail:
https%3A%2F%2Fsupport.cdn.mozilla.net%2Fstatic%2Fimg%2Fblank.png&subject
Changing my mailto app to Gmail, this is what gets dropped into a compose window:
https://support.cdn.mozilla.net/static/img/blank.png
So it does indeed seem to be a Yahoo! Mail issue, not a Firefox issue, as a different email client changes things.
What's very odd is that this used to work with Yahoo! Mail several weeks ago. I wonder if Yahoo changed something on thier end.
Thanks
Jim

  • [ANN] GeoIPTC 1.0 : geocode your images using metadata standards (IPTC and XMP)

    Hello,
GeoIPTC is an innovative tool to add geographical identification to your images (geocoding) according to IPTC and XMP metadata embedded in images.
GeoIPTC reads all IPTC and IPTC Core metadata embedded in an image, isolates localisation data (City, Location, Province/State, Country Code and Country Name), then sends a request to a Geocoding Web Service and finally gets latitude/longitude coordinates.
To say it briefly: GeoIPTC gets geographical information from the postman address embedded in image.
    Main features
    * Gets full sets of image standard metadata
    * Automatically gets longitude/latitude from widely used Geocoding Web Services like Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps or GeoNames.
    * Locate automatically images on Maps Services like Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps and MapQuest
    * Generate automatically KML or KMZ placemarks and locate single (one image) or multiple (many images) placemarks on Google Earth with full IPTC/IPTC Core metadata
    * Set automatically single or multiple images with appropriate Exif GPS coordinates

Note the last paragraph in the original post which explains how Flickr handles resolution changes without breaking the rectangles. Perhaps a more straightforward approach would be to store both the rectangle coordinates for each rectangle AND the image's width and height at the time the rectangles were created. Then if the image is scaled, the rectangles can be scaled accordingly. For example, if a rectangle is at x=100,y=200,w=50,h=70, the "original dimensions" are 1000x2000, and the image's current dimensions are 500x1000, then an application could assume the image has been scaled down by (500/1000=) 0.50, and so the x,y,w,h of each rectangle could also be multiplied by 0.50 (x=50,y=100,w=25,h=35). I'd recommend storing floating-point values so that multiple scalings don't make the rectangles "creep".
Of course, it is possible that really the image was cropped rather than scaled, but fairly unlikely you would happen to crop it the same percent in both directions. Even if an image is cropped, someone could manually repair the rectangles by sliding and scaling them until the fit back on the faces (unless most of the faces were cropped off).
A rectangle-aware application could scale and translate the rectangles during a crop or scaling operation, but other applications could still survive scaling if they at least preserve the XMP tags as-is.

  • Why can I no longer open a PE image directly in PE 11 by simply double clicking the image?

In contrast to previous versions, for whatever reason, I cannot open a PhotoShop Elements image directly by simply 'double clicking' on the image. When I do this with PE 11, PE 11 opens blank and I then have to go to the Open menu and find the image I want to open (the very image I 'clicked' on in the first place)? Why this extra time consuming step?
    Thanks,
    Dale

    Thanks for the reply.
However, I don't understand your answer.
To refresh my memory, I just now selected a jpg. image and opened it with PSE 10. When PSE 10 opened, there was my image, ready to be worked with. However, when I repeated the exact same thing with with PSE 11, PSE 11 opened a blank page and I had to go to the Open menu and reopen my image. I don't understand why this extra step is required with PSE 11.
The screen shot you suggested means nothing to me in post http://forums.adobe.com/message/4876725#4876725 as I've no idea where it comes from or what I'm looking at.
    Can you provide further details?
    Thanks.

How do I import an image directly from the internet without printing and scanning it in first?

You can also Ctrl click on the image, save the image to your desktop and open it in Photoshop.
    1.
    2.
    3. Open in Photoshop by double-clicking on the saved image on your Desktop or Cmd o in Photoshop.
I don't see any point to copying and pasting from a browser into a new file in Photoshop.
If you want to put an image onto an already open image in Photoshop, use the File > Place... command and select your saved image.

  • Optimizing Images directly in Indesign??

Is there an option to optimizing your linked images directly in Indesign? I'm looking to select an image and have Indesign take its layout scale and apply that to the image file optimizing the linked image to constrain it's proportions to that which it is sized on the page in the layout in Indesign. I know that I'm able to have the option to edit original file and then do this sizing in Photoshop. But with hundreds of photos that have a multitude of different layouts and scales in contrast to their original files and to one another there must be a way to quickly have Indesign recognize the image's scaled size in the layout and optimize the original file to be that in proportion with its scaled size within layout, right??

When you output the file to PDF you can use the Compression Settings to automatically reduce the Resolution of the image to the size - basically it optimises the image size and resolution while making the PDF.
When you resize an image to fit a particular resolution and size in Photoshop - InDesign uses the exact same method.
The only problem with this is that when resample an image you usually need to Sharpen the image a small bit - or sometimes not at all - it's purely down to the sort of image it is - if it's a soft image then you probably wouldn't need to sharpen it, if it's a hard image with lots of detail and edge contrats then you probably would need to Sharpen the image when you resample it to a different size and resolution.
In about 10 years - I generally don't resample an image in Photoshop for output - I set the Compression settings in InDesign and let InDesign do the work - for the type of images I usually use I would never need to sharpen them as the difference is neglibile for the audience reading the material.
Howver, there are times like in Art catalogues or very high-end printing I would need to sharpen the images - and that's the only time I generally resample Images in photoshop.
There are some plugins that will do go through all the images and resample (not sure if it gives the option to add a sharpening filter?) but there are some out there - this one springs to mind
    http://zevrix.com/linkoptimizer.php
But I don't think for the general public it's very important to add the sharpening filter - perhaps architecture, art, fine magazines etc where quality is an absolute must - then yes.

Wanting to use Photoshop CS6 to open images directly from iPhoto 11.
Using OSX10.8.2 and iPhoto 11.  Just installed Photoshop CS6 and want to open
images directly from iPhoto.    Before I installed PS I was not able to edit photos
in iPhoto 11.  Nothing happens when I click on ‘edit‘ it is blank.
And now it will not work using Photoshop CS6 either.
From Help Center I have gone to iPhoto/Preferences/ Advanced and chosen Photoshop CS6  to Edit Photos but then cannot find an 'Open' to click? Perhaps this is the problem?
When I select a photo in iPhoto and click the Edit button - nothing happens.
    Please advise. Glenys

This may be of help to you:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Can we able to drag images directly

can we able to drag images directly in a pane or we have to put it on some label like components
will all the mouse events will work when we can able to drag images directly, else when we drag from
putting it on labels , will all the mouse events will work , which will be more overhead draging tthe labels
or draging our own created jcomponents

PNG is already a compressed format and most likely you already have achieved the maximum possible result. Unlike with JPEG, there are no compression levels. If you want it smaller, you have to reduce the dimensions or the amount of colors, but that's about it.

  • How can I possible lose my entire photo library/ referenced master image file if I have downloaded all my images directly onto Aperture?

How can I possible lose my entire photo library/ referenced master image file if I have downloaded all my images directly onto Aperture?

CeliaJane, you need to distinguish between the Aperture Library and the Aperture Application.
Aperture stores your images in a database, and it is this database that we have to find and probably to repair, not the application (hopefully). And since you do not see any images, I suspect that Aperture created a new, empty Aperture Library, and you are now viewing this empty library. Usully the library sits in your Pictures fiolder.
Look into your Pictures folder, if you see a file with a colorful icon with three pictures, called something.aplibrary, as shown above. And also enter ".applibrary" into the "Spotlight" searchfield in the upper right corner of your screen. If you have more than one Library, you should be able to find them this way.
The largest file you find will probably be the correct library.
When you have found the correct file called aperturexxxx.aplibrary, try to open it in "First Aid" mode.
Select the Library and press down "command" and "option" key at the same time, while you double click the library.
Now the First Aid dialogue should appear:
Select: Repair Permissions" and see if you can open the Library again. If it did not help, try the other two options in turn.

  • Access edited images directly in Windows Explorer? (like Aperture/Finder in OSX)

    Hi
I'm just getting started in LR and am hoping to replicate my main Aperture workflows (moving from OSX to Windows).
So, one of my most frequently used features in Aperture is tweaking photos for eBay auctions.  I make my adjustments and then go straight to the eBay website to write the listing.  Then I upload my images via Finder by simply browsing to my Aperture library and finding my tweaked versions.  I don't have to export any files to do this - Finder just passes the tweaked image directly to the client (eBay image uploader in this case).  It's very quick and easy, and doesn't leave unwanted files anywhere.  I use this in a lot of other scenarios too when I want to pull a tweaked photo into another application.
So, I'm wondering if there's any way to achieve the same thing in Aperture?
Thanks in advance for any wisdom you can share!

Bummer.  Aperture is non-destructive too, but it allows you to browse to and pull any images in the library (whether edited or not) from any application.
I guess I'll just have to get used to having extra steps every time I want to do this.  Probably the best approach will be a temporary folder I can export to and clear out occasionally.
    Thanks for the response!

  • How to get some version 3 images and metadata into version 4 catalog?

I recently upgraded to version 4.
Yesterday, I mistakenly opened up the version 3 icon and put in several hours worth of image work, metadata changes, and created a couple of collections.
    1. What will be the easiest way for me to update the changes to my version 4 catalog without undoing work that I have done in that from the last couple of weeks?
    Thanks!

Backup your LR4 and LR3 catalogues, so you'd be able to get back to the current state if everything went wrong.
Now in your LR3 catalogue, identify the images you've worked on (eg by selecting the collections or with a smart collection using Edit Date as a criterion). Select the affected images and do File > Export as Catalog. Save it onto your desktop.
Open this exported catalogue in LR3 and review it. You may have collections you don't want, or other info. Then close it.
In LR4, do a File > Import from another Catalog and bring in the catalogue from the desktop. Now, the danger is where you have changed the same image in LR4 in the last two weeks, and also changed them in LR3 in the last day or two. If so, then check the option to create new virtual copies and then resolve them one by one with Sync Metadata/Settings. If not, the imported catalogue will update pictures in your LR4 catalogue.
Plenty of backup, and proceed slowly.

how can I get my new ipad 4 to read my compact flash cards? If not, can I download the images directly from my camera?

Tom, thanks for your quick reply. I'm a commerical photographer using Canon 5D mk2's mostly and have in the past just downloaded images to a mac book for backup. I really liked the compact size of the Ipad and just got the retina model with the camera connection kit and seem to be hearing that CF readers can't be used with it b/c they draw too much power. Seems like I remember reading I could use a cord that might have come with my cameras to download directly to the Ipad. I haven't tried it yet as I can't find the connection but then you just said it can't be done?
I'm COMPLETLY lost as to your "first pluging in a flash drive to my computer, advice. Do you mean Ipad when you say computer?  "then put your movie/photo files into the folder." HOW????????
Then plug it into the Ipad??????     TOTALLY lost.
Also your saying just "do a google search for a reader doesn't work b/c NONE are able to work with the newer Ipads b/c they use TOO much power or so everyone says everyone that have tried.
Hope you can help a little more b/c I'm really getting frustrated with all the conflicting advice!

  • Adding and /exporting/ image with Metadata problem

i have been able to add metadata to an image i need to publish but for some reason i am having a problem figuring out how to export this metada with the image.
i see i have an option to export as original or as version. does this affect whether metada has been exported?
also, can i export as PNG as get the metadata in the image or do i have to use something like jpg for some reason?
finally, is there a way to verify that the metadata has been exported along with the image to my desktop before i upload to the web?! it seems really sort of odd to have to re-import the image into Aperture to test the exported image to see if the metadata is there. i mean, i am glad i just did this with the image and metadata that i exported b/c the metadata is not there but it seems like this could be simpler.
    TIA

What export preset are you using? Did you check the box to include metadata. This is all in the manual. PNG has poor support for metadata so you're best sticking to Jpeg. You can check for the metadata in Preview, or an of a 100 other photo apps.
