Image Disk Creation

So I'm reading a lot about creating an Image Disk so as to minimize burning problems, which, I am having to the tune of three tries at 1 hr and 39 min a pop (my burn time). I'm trying a new theme and it's now telling me 50 min. (better). It gives me an error message right around the last 9 min. And yes, I trashed my preferences. Can anyone help me out on how to make one and any other suggestions you may have?

I really don't know about Imation disks. When I first started doing DVDs, I used Memorex....didn't know anything about which brands were good. I even used those stick-on labels!
Fortunately, the Memorex ones worked for me, but then I had a minor problem, discovered these discussions, read over and over about the superb quality of Verbatim disks, switched to them and never looked back. I even reburned the Memorex disks to Verbatim. I am now using their gold archival DVD-R disks. I have never had an issue with a burn.

How do you like FCE? I have done a very short movie with it, but I have been anxious to put all my family photos and videos on DVDs more quickly. I find that iMovie6 is easier and faster for me. I am planning to learn more about FCE so that I can become more creative, but I want to get these longer movies finished first. I am doing chronologic movies, began with my daughter's birth in 1979, and am currently finishing 2000, so I am making good progress. The slowest phase was scanning in all my snapshots! And, being a bit perfectionistic, I retouched nearly every photo, so it did take a while. Now I have about 9 iMovies in progress, and when I finish those, I will be up to 2004. After completing 20007, I will go back and do a DVD for my side and one for my husband's side, just old photos. We have some photos from the 1890's.
When that is done, I think I will take some classes on FCE and become more familiar with using it. I read in a MacWorld that Apple is no longer going to support iMovie 6, so I want to be up on FCE fairly quickly.

Can't save modified file to a folder in an image disk directly

I have an image disk on an external drive (firewire) and if I try to save a modified file of an existing file or do a "save as" to a folder, I'm always sent to the root directly of the finder and I have to navigate myself all the way back to the destination folder, every time. MS Word is even worse. I get a message that I have the wrong path and then it sends me back to the root directory. When I get back to the destination folder, MS Word accepts it but shows the message again, anyway. This doesn't happen if I save to the image disk directly and not go into a folder.

Perhaps your Quicken preference files are corrupted, it's not bad, and an easy fix. Locate this file or one that is similar: com.quicken.plist It should be here; MacintoshHD/Users/Library/Preferences. Open the Preferences folder, locate that file, drag it to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. It's ok to trash a pref file, your Mac will create a new one for you.

Problems with image disk from Idvd

Hi everyone, I've burned some Idvd projects, and before throwing those projects to the trash, i've saved them as an image disk.
Today, when I burn image disk, it burns, but when I play it on a dvd deck the movie doesn't exist.
When I check on my Imac, it shows me the dvd with a file burned on it, but doesn't play like a dvd.
What's going on ?

OK OK I've forgotten to use the "search" option.
I think I've found the answer, I HAVE TO USE DISK UTILITY to burn an image disk, and not :
Open the new dvd
drag and drop the image disk to burn
and click the "burn" button on the top right of the window.

Problems with Image Disk, fantom CD on desktop and DVD burning

Hello,
I met the last days a lot of problems related with logical volumes.
1) image disk which refuse to disapear when unmount
2) CD which are duplicate once burnt (the both icons disaperar when one is ejected)
3) Servers (anonymous ftp) who stays on desktop after disconnection
4) DVD burning which begin with the message of the end : « completion of engraving » (in french : « finalisation de la gravure ») and the process abort.
5) Asking information about the DVDs: they contains 1,3Go of data (they are new Verbatim DVD-RW!).
If somebody have an idea…

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
1) If you are using a file or application that resides on the Disk Image then it will not unmount.
2) If you burn 2 "sessions" with software like Toast you can end up with two CD icons that both eject when you take the single disk out. This is normal.
3) ?
4) and 5) Try burning disks at a lower speed and use media that is suitable for the older drives the iMac G4 has. You shouldn't be using 16x media.

2) Si vous brûlez 2 « des sessions » avec le logiciel comme pain grillé que vous pouvez finir vers le haut avec deux icônes de CD ces tous les deux éjectent quand vous enlever le disque simple. C'est normal.

Unmount image disk/CD/DVD/peripheral-Ejecter une image disque/CD/DVD/périph

I write to you because I have a problem to eject, unmount the images disk, the CD/DVD, and the peripherals. That made a long time that I use Mac Os X and it is the first time that I have this problem. When I want to unmount an image disk, CD/DVD, peripheral, I use usually two ways: either I make slip the icon of the desktop to the trash, or I supports on ejecting in Finder, where the peripherals are placed. For CD I support on F12.
Unfortunately, and I could not say why, that does not work any more. Normally a white icon is posted on the screen when I support on F12, and then, nothing happens. Similar when I make slip the icons to the trash or when I use Finder.
My only way to eject the peripherals is to use "the utility of disc" (don't know how to say it in french: utilitaire de disque).
This is a bit irritating and I would like to know if you have solutions for me.

Je vous écris car j’ai un problème pour éjecter, démonter les images disque, les CD/DVD, et les périphériques.
Cela fait longtemps que j’utilise Mac Os X et c’est la première fois que j’ai ce problème. Lorsque je veux démonter une image disque, CD/DVD, périphérique, j’utilise habituellement deux façons : soit je fais glisser l’icône du bureau vers la corbeille, soit j’appuis sur éjecter dans le Finder, là où sont placés les périphériques. Pour les CD j’appuie sur F12.
Malheureusement, et je ne saurais dire pourquoi, cela ne fonctionne plus. Normalement une icône blanche s’affiche sur l’écran quand j’appuie sur F12, et là, plus rien ne se passe. Pareil quand je fais glisser les icônes vers la corbeille ou quand j’utilise le Finder.
Mon seul moyen pour éjecter les périphériques est d’utiliser l’utilitaire de disque.
Ceci est assez énervant et j’aimerais savoir si vous avez des solutions pour moi.

Select the disk and click command+e.

List view for folders on a sparse image disk

I have set up a sparse image on an external disk. I cannot get the sparse image disk folders to default to "List View". It always opens as "Icons" and I have to click on list view everytime. Any ideas?

Go to the Preferences under the small box at the upper-left:
On the General pane, check the box to "Show list views for all media".

I can't mount an image disk .dmg (error -4960)

Hi,
After move an image disk from the internal HD to an external HD (FW400), .dmg failed -> error -4960. If I move back, the .dmg failed. I've try to repair autorization, repair keychain, fsck... no success.

Mounting Sparse Image disk at boot

I had a look a threads treating this but still I am not satisfied.
I want my iPhoto image disk to mount automatically when I boot the iMAC or at least when I am login. For that I have added the target sparse image disk in the list of applications to launch at login of my user (in the user&account)
Once this is done and when I login again appears the disk utility but the disk does not mount automatically I have to do it myself (by pressing the mount button in the disk utility) which is not totally satisfactory to me.
Any clue how to make this mount totally invisible and automatic without passing through the disk utility?

I am not sure to understand your remark. Are you controlling what is on the computers of comunity users before answering to the question?
To answer you: I use BitTorrentSync software to load movies I ripped onto my iPadMini without using iTunes which does not accept the format I used to rip my DVD.

HP restore disk creation did not make enough disks

I ran the restore disk creation when I first got my HP G62 laptop. Now I need to restore as the hard drive was damaged and needed to be replaced. When I run the restore it asks for a 4th disk when only 3 were created by the cyberlink restore program. I reviewed the disk creation instructions on the HP website and I cannot find anything about an additional disk. Has someone else run ito this problem?

T520 won't detect Network card in WDS/WinPE/Ghost image disk

Hello all,
I figured I would just post this so I could save 2 days of someone elses life.
I'm not sure how many other modes have the EFI and UEFI bios's in them but this has caused a lot of problems when trying to capture an image / image the Lenovo T520. So for anyone else that is having these problems here is how I got around the problem.
The Problem:
While trying to boot up off a Capture image with a CD or PXE boot for our WDS server the laptop would not detect the network card giving no IP address and listing the adapter as a hybrid. When trying to do a ipconfig /renew it would give an error around the lines of the loopback something or other ....... the adapter could not be contacted or initated.
I instantly thought this was due to the vanila WinPE / Capture image not having the drivers for the Lenovoo T520, so I went to the website downloaded the new drivers and injected them into the WinPE disk(You will want ot use the NDIS Drivers which are included in the package for this). Following this process it would still not detect or install the NIC. After many hours of searching it would apear this was due to the EFI/UEFI bios options not going through the proper boot cycle when in a PE enviroment. The solution was to mess around with the EFI/UEFI switches in the WinPE boot image during the creation proccess as listed below:
ocdimg -m -o -u2 -udfver102 -bootdata:2#p0,e,bc:\winpe_x64\etfsboot.com#pEF,e,bc:\winpe_x64\efisys.bin c:\winpe_x64\ISO c:\winpe_x64\winpeuefi.iso

Eseentially once the new boot image was complied with the proper EFI / UEFI options enabled it went through the proper boot process detected the NIC and installed the drivers which I previously provided on the disk and we where off to the races imaging the new laptop.
Hopefull this will help some others who are struggling with this or any other model that has this type of bios.

One side note the EFI/UEFI to legacy mode only does nothing for the NIC problem, I have seen some posts where they can help with the hard drive issues when imaging, however as for the nic not loading in PE enviroments this setting in the BIOS did not reslove the problem.

If I did not remember wrongly, you may present or add drivers (network, hardware) under WDS / Ghost software or copy necessary drivers (e.g. your T520 network card drivers) under it's PXE / boot section.

Recovery Disk Creation Error (Windows Vista / Satillite A200)

Hello Everyone,
I have a Satellite A200 running Vista. This is inherited so I will do the best to describe the issue:
Mainly because it's inherited and running terrible I wanted to wipe the drive back to factory settings:
When creating the disks, it get about 1/2 way through the first one, then gives an error similar to:
Unable to Read (drive)\ZZImages\ZZImages\preinst.swm.
I unfortunately did not write down the specific error message, and I will make a new frisbee if required to find out (unless it has a log?)
It happened once while at the previous owners posestion, so before running it myself I can a chkdsk on the C Drive.
There was a 2nd partition, 5GB that's empty, as well as a HIDDEN partition (unsure of size) that had quite a few files on it.
I had inspected the systems within Linux which reads everything fine, then set the chkdsk flag (Dirty Bit) to ensure a full scan of the C drive.
Any suggestions as to what I can do would be great.

Scanning the C: drive won't have any affect on this. The images are storred in the larger hidden partition that you should NOT scan. Since it happened to the original owner and to yourself it's fiarly obvious that the problem lies in the recovery partition. Your best bet at this time would be to order a replacement set of recovery disks from Toshiba. See the second post in this Recovery Forum for details.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

Disk Utility image disk doesn't work

I try to install the os x mavericks update on a Snow Leopard 10.6.4 Mac from the Apple page. A message told me there was an error on the disk so I tried to repair it with Disk Utility. It didn't work. It ask me to make an image copy, It doesn't work neither. I am not able to go back or forward from there.
There was a message coming up telling me "cannot allocate memory".
I wrongly supposed it was a external hard disk problem so I bought a 3TB hard disc to make an image disc copy but again it didn't work.
I try to use Disk Utility to repair or make an image copy of the Macintosh (running from my Mac or the Install DVD) but it cannot repair the hard drive or make a disk image. Depending on the options I choose messages like: "input/output error" or "cannot allocate memory".. keep coming up. I don't know what to do any longer.
Before going forward I want to save my all my data.
Can you help me please?

Step one is to erase and reformat the 3 TB HD you bought. Ensure that it's Mac OS Extended with the GUID option. Next, use something like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to put a bootable backup/clone onto the ext HD. Ensure that you can boot the machine with it. Boot into the backup/clone, launch Disk Utility and repair the int HD. If successful, update it to 10.6.8. Boot with the int HD and update the clone. Once that's finished, try upgrading either it or the clone to Mavericks.

Recovery media creation using DVDs failed at verification Process.
Please help I haave tried various DVDs but always the error occurs at veification process.
I even tried creating recovery disk in safe mode in windows 8 but the message PLEASE INSTALL BATTERIES is displayed.

Disk images, disk utility, and burning movie copies

I used to use a .dmg of my own movie files to create copies for playback. i used disk utility for this for years and have even used it successfully with OS 10.5....now suddenly burning from the same disk image in disk utility only ever creates a new .img or .dmg, never a copy for playback. this is my own movie, not a rented/copyrighted/purchased dvd., etc. what am i suddenly doing wrong, possibly?

How to create a seperate database image / disk?

Has anyone found a way how to create a database image like the one Oracle provides for 11g to be used in conjunction with a system image (I'm refering to the "guest templates" Oracle offers)?
I would like to create an image from an Oracle 10g R2-database, that ends up as a Xen-mountable image (e.g. "oracle10g.img"). So without the Linux OS inside. The OS wil reside in "system.img".
So in the end the vm.cfg disk-entry will look like this:
