Image Editing in Acrobat Professional 8.1.2

I am running Acrobat 8.1.2 under XP Professional Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600.
I am trying to edit images in a file I downloaded from the web to reduce the file size. The images are ones that thumbnails on an earlier page access to show a larger sized image.
The images are slightly too long to fit on one page, so most of the image appears on page 1 and then the bottom portion on the top of page 2. There are text boxes separating the images.
Is there a simple way to edit these images to make them small enough to fit on a single page in Acrobat?
I managed to select each one and drag the corners to make them ~the same size and small enough for one page, but I cannot seem to move the bottom part so that I can merge it with the major part.
It is not clear to me if this is an artefact of the downloading process or not. Perhaps I could adjust some parameter so that the images all fit properly when downloaded?
I'll be glad to create a small, 2 page Acrobat file illustrating the problem. I don't see a way to post it here, though?
Thanks for any insights.
John

Thank you Bill and Aandi for your comments.
I see I should have said a bit more.
In Acrobat Professional 8, I used the menu path File>Create PDF>From Web Page. I specified that I wanted to drill down 2 levels.
That accomplished what I wanted. I captured the images and the linked images. I captured a whole lot more, but that was easy to delete in the Thumbnail View. I then deleted all the superfluous bookmarks and any unwanted text from the homepage. Now I have a PDF which is just under 10K and might pass muster for an email attachment. Clearly if I could condense the linked full size images to single pages, the file should become significantly smaller.
Perhaps it makes a difference, but my browser of choice is Mozilla SeaMonkey 1.1.9.
Acrobat 'does everything for you transparently' so it is not evident if it uses Mozilla, or if it uses its own software to open a web page and capture it. Does anyone reading this know more about the process?
Thanks,
John

  • Image field on acrobat professional x.

I'm trying to create an image field in a form that i've already done. Javascript action isn't working at all.
Any suggestions? How can i do that? Or i really MUST HAVE acrobat livecycle designer, a windows software, from more than 4 years ago because a type of button is missing in professional X for mac?

If it has to work with Reader, an image field created in Acrobat won't work. If you want the user to be able to select an image file from a dialog, then an XFA form created in LiveCycle Designer is the only option. Reader users are able to paste images from the clipboard if the document has usage rights that allows it, but the user has to somehow copy the image to the clipboard.
Whenever this comes up I urge folks to submit a feature request. You can add to this one and I'll give you a few points: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/743823?tstart=0

  • Image field in Acrobat 8 Professional

I am making a form in Adobe Acrobat Professional and everything is going great and I put in image fields and activated the users so I could send it out to anyone that needed to use this form to place images. So all they had to do was click and find the image and it would place it. Well I am finding many problems, first problem I encountered was when I placed the image field and clicked on "fit image proportionally," in one and then in another one I chose "fit image to box," and they both did the same thing, it fit it to the box, it didn't fit proportionally. Is there a way to fix that? Another thing is that I worked around that for now and found a way to get the images on the form but when I did they were blury and pixelated, but they are 300 dpi, how can I fix that? If anyone can help me ASAP I would be greatful. Thanks

Acrobat uses a non-destructive crop. When you import the pdf into an intelligent program, it will only show you the part of the pdf within the crop box. I have  used Acrobat and FrameMaker for years and it only shows you the proper part of the pdf. InDesign CS 5 seems to import the entire pdf unless you play with the import options.

  • Use Acrobat Professional to make text editable in Adobe Reader

    Hello,
I have a .pdf document that needs to be edited.
There are certain fields in the .pdf that needs to be editable in Adobe Reader.
For example; we need information from other companies in that .pdf.
It says "[company name]", can I make it in a certain way with Acrobat professional so that when our client clicks in that field it that he can type there.
Is this possible with Acrobat Professional?
    Thank you!

Thank you for your reply! It worked!
One more question (please also check the attached picture for this question): Can I make it in a way that the text moves when I type something longer then the box?
    Thanks!

  • Editing pdfs with Adobe Acrobat professional 9

So, I'm editing a pdf by using the "Edit page" option in Acrobat professional, which opens a temp file in Illustrator, where I'm able to make my changes, etc. Then when I save the temp file, and go back to the pdf file, the whole page has shifted to the right, even when the changes I made in illustrator looked okay after I saved it. It's when I go back to the pdf that everything seems to have shifted. I have no idea why this is happening, it seems like it's a new issue, never had this problem before doing the same thing. Has anyone had the same problem? And if so, how do I fix it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

With Acrobat active, go to About Acrobat. Does your popup look like this?
If so you have the latest version.

  • System Events not working correctly with Acrobat Professional

Hey Guys, I have a script that I have written that automatically enables security settings on a PDF through Acrobat Professional. Because of Acrobats poor scriptability I am forced into doing much though System Events.
This is not a major problem... however when activating some settings in the security settings, often warning Alert dialog boxes appear when you tell System Events to enable particular settings. These Alerts do not have a title... The only way I have been able to get the script to deal with them is with the following code:
if title of front window is "" then
        tell front window
            click button "OK"
        end tell
    end if
I guess this is an ok solution... bit hard to identify windows when they don't have titles...
BUT this is not my main problem. The main problem is that the script gets to one of these alert dialog boxes and just sits there... It sits there for like 10 seconds and then it performs the "click button "OK"" command.
This is a problem as there are like 3 of these instances and it really adds up. Can anybody help me... I am using Acrobat Professional 8.2.0 and the entire code is:
    tell application "System Events"
        try
            tell process "Acrobat"
                -- Enable security settings
click menu item "Properties..." of menu "File" of menu bar item "File" of menu bar 1

        on error
display alert "System Events was unable to Enable Commenting. This may be because Acrobat has modified its menu system. Please contact your system administrator."
        end try
    end tell
A delay does not work... its like as soon as I click the "OK" button it stalls for 10 seconds or does not know that is meant to continue... because I did this:
tell window "Password Security - Settings"
        click button "OK"
    end tell
    beep
In this situation it still takes like 10 seconds for the beep to occur after the click button "OK" command.

Yes! Thank you. I played around with it some and found that is the case, that I can PDF through the printer as well as bring the application up. I suppose it's just not install-able in full because it just cannot link up with Windows 7 in any capacity.
That's all the ability that I need at the present time. Nothing special, just whether it can or can't. Thanks!

  • Problem in creating PDF of Website using Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.

I am trying to create PDF file of full website using "Create PDF from Web Page..." option, in Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.
It is creating PDF but the page alignments/text/images alignments are lost and doesn't look good.
Can any one help to create the PDF same as webpage look and feel.
    Thanks.

Acrobat 8's HTML->PDF engine is quite old and doesn't work well with modern web pages. I'd recommend trying the same page using Acrobat X (trial available) where the engine has been replaced and modernized.

  • Form designing for compatibility between Acrobat Reader 7 and Acrobat Professional

I have designed a Form using LiveCycle Designer 7.0. It contains a few subforms and lot of javascripting. One of the javascript logic I am using is to display a subform when a user clicks a radio button and hide it when the user clicks another radio button. The subform contains Text field, Numeric field, Rectangle, Line, Button. This worked well with Acrobat Reader 7.
After I installed Acrobat Professional 7, my form breaks. I did a quick test to see where it breaks and came out with the following conclusion.
    1. If the subForm contains an Image, Line, Rectangle or Circle control, the subForm rendering throws error (Adobe Acrobat 7.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close) when I click on the radio button to display the subform.
    2. If the subForm contains Text control, it is displayed even if subform is invisible.
    3. If the subForm contains Checkbox, Radio, Dropdown list, List Box, Button, Submit By Email, Submit, Print Form, Reset Form; these controls are never displayed even if subform is visible.
Has anyone encountered a similar issue?

    Hi Dave,
    Thanks for the response.
I need some clarification. When you say 7.0.5 version, are you expecting 7.0.5 version of Reader or Professional?
    Here's the steps I followed:
I originally had Adobe Designer version 7, 0, 041126, 0 and Acrobat Reader 7.0.5 and everything worked great.
Now I have uninstalled Designer and Reader and installed
Acrobat Professional Tryout. This installs Acrobat Professional version 7.0.0 and Adobe Designer version 7, 0, 041126, 0 (which is the same as above). Now the same forms which were working earlier are not working as expected.
Please note that I have NOT installed Acrobat Reader 7.0.5. How do I find out what version of Reader does Designer user for PDF preview?
If I separately download Acrobat Reader 7.0.5, how do I tell Designer to use that version for PDF preview?
    Thanks,
    Satish

  • Could not get exact contents from pdf using adobe acrobat professional

    Hi,
I am using acrobat professional to extract contents from a pdf into HTML. During extraction of pdf into HTML some contents are getting rendered as images. But with pdf to xml extraction i can get the exact contents. But i need HTML file from pdf. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

You might want to see if you can select the background with the object touchup tool. If so, can you then just delete the selected object. May take a while to go through the document, but if it solves the problem you are ahead. You may be able to select it with JavaScript and repeat the process. My point of using the object touchup tool is that it may not be a background set by Acrobat, but something that is simply labeled as an image from the Acrobat viewpoint.

  • Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.0 giving problem

We've a user who has installed Adobe Reader 7.0.8 and xACF on her machine. She also has Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.0 on her machine which she uses for some other work.
Now the problem is that when she tries to open the Adobe interactive form from CRM system, it by default opens by Adobe Professional 8.0 (AND Professional 8.0 has issues with xACF framework, so she can not edit the form or click any button).
I tried to attach "PDF" documents with Adobe Reader 7.0 on her machine - which works when I double click an existing PDF on her machine - it opens in Reader 7.0.
But as soon as she opens the Interactive  form from CRM it opens in Adobe Professional 8.0.
I even tried follwoing in Professional 8.0 -
Edit -> Preferences -> Internet -> Display PDF in browser (Unchecked)
But as soon as I did this the PDF stopped to display and just an icon appeared.
Please let me know how I can resolve this issue of co-existence of Reader 7.0 and Professional 8.0 together on same machine.
    Many Thanks,
    Vimukta

    Hello Michal,
    I tried your solution 1. I un-installed both Reader 7.0.8 and Professional 8.0.
    Then I re-installed Reader 7.0.8.
Then I re-installed Professional 8.0, but no where during installtion process did it ask me if Professional 8.0 should be default to open PDF files. By default it set it to open PDF files. Now I'm back to original problem.
Solution 2 still works (i.e. open Reader 7.0.8) before opening the URL in web browser (then it opens in Reader 7.0.8).
But we want a permanent solution.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Vimukta

  • Scanning in Adobe Acrobat Professional 8

I have Windows XP - Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 - a Brother MFC-465CN printer scanner. When I want to create a .pdf from the scanner the Adobe program closes down. No error message. I can scan in other programs such as Photoshop etc.

Hi Bob,Acrobat Professional 8 only support Twain-Compliant devices, while the HP printer only support Apple's ICA compliant application. As a reference you may find the following article from Adobe:Acrobat has ICA support on MAC 10.7 for now with Acrobat XI onlyhttps://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/troubleshoot-scanning-problems-acrobat-8.html You may scan using Image Capture or the HP Scan application, then open / import the scanned file into Adobe. You may find the Scanning specifications listed below, a Twain-compliant software interface only available for Windows:http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Deskjet-1050-All-in-One-Printer-series---J4/4027462/model/4027464/document/c02063036/ You may find any steps to scan with your printer in the following link:http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Deskjet-1050-All-in-One-Printer-series---J4/4027462/model/4027464/document/c03548786/ Regards,Shlomi

  • Disable Auto Update in Acrobat Professional 9 for OS X

We have a series of installations in a lab/classroom environment where we would like to disable the autoupdate feature of Acrobat Professional 9. Currently when a new user logs in the autoupdater wil launch telling the user that there's a new update available. That's great and all except that a) most users are not admins and couldn't do the update any way, b) we use Sassafras Keyserver and updating the App with IT will cause the keyserver functionality to stop which would then make us fall out of compliance with licensing, c) IT likes to make sure that ALL users are on the same version which means that we need to control when and how updates are installed.
Is there any way to do this and then have the settings propagate to all users?

    Hi,
There's no machine level setting to disable ARM for all users in MAC.
However, you could set the update mode to manual using Edit->Preferences->Do not automatically download or install updates. This has to be done by each user since the setting is user specific.
    Hope this helps.
Also, I have a small query. When Acrobat\Reader  installed as an admin is launched for a non-admin user, it requires admin credentials on first launch. Since most of your users are non-admin, how are they able to launch Acrobat\reader wihtout providing admin passwords?

  • Enable User Rights using Adobe Acrobat Professional 7

I created an editable PDF form using LifeCycle Designer 7.0.  My goal is to have users fill out the form and email the actual filled out form not the XML code. I added a regualr button with the following java script.
    event.target.submitForm({cURL:"mailto:[email protected]?subject=Submitted Form&body=Please find attached the completed form.",cSubmitAs:"PDF",cCharset:"utf-8"});
    Show = Click
    Language = JavaScript
    Run At = Client
When I test the button in Adobe Professional or in LifeCycle the button works fine.  However when I open the file in Reader 9, it does not work.  I do not encuonter any error messages.  Nothing happens when you click on the button.  I thought that users rights need to be enabled in order for it to work.  Unfortunately I do not see how to do this Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.  I do not have Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.  Any ideas on what I can do to correct this issue?

For Reader users and AA7, your only choice is to have the XML file submitted. Then simply open the form in Acrobat and import the XML data file to fill the form. This will be exactly what the user saw when they submitted it. Thus there is no need to submit the entire form.
