Image editing withing Elements 2

Hello
Can anyone help a novice out?? I want to use an image for a background as part of my website. What i want to do is have the main "graphic" to the right hand side of the screen (set as semi transparent) and then fade the image to white towards the left of the screen. I have tried messing around but cannot get a decent result.
Cheers

  • Plugins not showing up in Images - Edit With... menu

I've installed several Aperture 2 plugins (I currently and using Aperture 2.1). Every user guide states I can find the plugins in the following menu: Images -> Edit With...
The only plugin I ever see in the is Dodge and Burn.
Like I said, I run completely through the installer for the plugins. It asks for permission, says its installing packages, writing files, writing scripts etc. When I right click on Aperture and select "Show Package Contents", I see no traces of my installed plugins in the "Plugins" folder.
Anyone know how I can resolve this issue?

I just reread your OP. The plugins should be stored in: Root (not User) >> Library >> Application Support >> Aperture >> Plugins >> Edit (or just plugins w/o the edit folder)
    Are they there?
I just installed that plugin you linked to, and it worked fine. Have you restarted, repaired permissions etc? Remember that the Aperture application HAS to be in the applications folder, not in a sub-folder and not renamed to function properly.

  • Edit with elements function does not work

I have just installed my new version of elements 9, and have already hit a problem. When in the Organiser, if I right click and select "edit with photo shop elements", absolutely nothing happens other than Elements open and no photo appears. The only way I seem to be able to open the image in Element is either via the traditional "open file" command, or by dragging the photo from organiser into elements.
    Any help gratefully received.

    Hi,
Please try couple of probable solutions as mentioned below:
    Solution 1:
    1. Close Elements.
    2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Editor.
    3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
Solution 2: In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall or make different printer as default.
Solution 3: Try launching with anti-virus off or removing PSE from conflicting list.
    Solution 4:
On the drive on which you have installed PSE,on my machine it is on C:
Go  to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements  10\Locales\<locale>\Plug-Ins\Import-Exportand you will find twain  plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere  else.
Now launch PSE and check if it works.

  • How do I configure RAW editing with Elements 11

I have a new camera, Lumix TZ60, I've taken photos and when I tried editing in Elements 11 I had a message '- - - Visit Camera RAW help' does this mean the camera manufacturer or check with Adobe?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
The TZ60 was first supported in Adobe Camera Raw 8.4 which is only compatible with Elements 12 and newer.
So you'll never be able to edit Raw files from the TZ60 in Elements 11.
Why doesn’t my version of Photoshop or Lightroom support my camera?
    Options:
    Upgrade to Elements 13
Free option: download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all TZ60 Raw files to DNG format then edit the DNG files in Elements 11

  • Should I convert my MTS (AVCHD) file to another file type before editing with elements 10

I know premiere elements 10 has project settings for working with AVCHD footage but after doing a bit of reading about how AVCHD (MTS) files are a lot harder for your computer to work with I'm thinking it might be better to convert my raw video files to another video file type before editing with premiere elements 10.
I have a reasonably good computer, but it's only a laptop with 361gb free memory, radeon graphics card, core i5 processor and 8GB ram.
If I should convert these files first what file type should I convert them to without loosing too much video quality and where can I find a program to convert them.
    Many thanks
    Sally

I have a reasonably good computer, but it's only a laptop with 361gb free memory, radeon graphics card, core i5 processor and 8GB ram.
My granddaughters and I have been using one of those to edit videos taken in (two) Sony and (one) Panasonic cameras.  The computer is a mid grade Toshiba laptop that is about three years old.  The cameras were purchased after the computer.  Our computer does not have a graphics card, but the other specs are about the same.
I know premiere elements 10 has project settings for working with AVCHD footage but after doing a bit of reading about how AVCHD (MTS) files are a lot harder for your computer to work with I'm thinking it might be better to convert my raw video files to another video file type before editing with premiere elements 10.
I didn't read that until after we had made videos.  The issue is the project preset that is set when you open a new project. If you guess wrong, PrE10 tells you so when you slide the first clip to the timeline.
There is confusion about AVCHD because there is a 1.0 and a 2.0.  The "high" setting for many cameras the last couple of years was 1080p60.  That did not become part of AVCHD until last July.  Now it is and is called 2.0.  PrE10 specs include AVCHD 1.0, so the 1080p60 is "officially" unsupported.   I didn't know that, so I tried a few presets when my files were 1080p60.  A preset of 720p60 worked best.
The "work harder" part primarily has to do with the preview window during editing.  If it is not going smoothly there will probably be a red line above the clip.  Pressing "Enter", getting a cup of coffee and patience will make the red line go away and the preview will be smoother.  The relationship between project presets and final output is a mystery.  My experience is that the presets have only to do with real time preview and little to do with output.  Output requires an entire re-encoding for the chosen viewing platform.  PrE10 seems to ignore the project presets, uses all the markers set in editing and builds the final products from scratch.
If I should convert these files first what file type should I convert them to without loosing too much video quality and where can I find a program to convert them.
Steve and Bill invest a lot of time here helping people like you and me.  But, my experience is that they are wrong.  I see no need to convert the files.  Conversion always has the risk of loosing a little picture quality.  PrE10 seems to handle AVCHD fine.  Let it do the final render using the actual source clips.
Sally, consider upgrading to version 11 where AVCHD 2.0 and 1080p60 is included.  I have.  Processing is a little smother.
    Bill
PS:  Please, with all due respect to Bill and Steve who work hard here, I disagree based only on experience with 3 cameras and one computer.  User experience varies!

  • Can't export images edited with external editor

Images edited within iPhoto '11 export to the desktop without a problem but images that have been edited with an external editor (Photoshop CS4) will not export. The following dialog come up:
    Exporting...
    Unable to create /Users/<name>/Desktop/
    Cancel
Don't know if this has any bearing but the problem is on my wife's iMac, not my MacPro.
Any clues to the source of the problem will be appreciated.

Thanks TD for your input. While I could not get the rebuild to work (it would show 97% done then hang up), it helped me isolate the problem. I ended up deleting all the images that were edited by PS CS4 then tried to do the rebuild again. Still no luck. I then opened the file sans the edited PS images and it worked.
I then edited one of the images using PS CS4 as the external editor and that worked. I then exported the image to the desktop and that also worked. The only think I can think of is that the original edits were done in iPhoto 9.0 and I have since updated it to 9.1. Whatever - it works and the only loss were some edits on a dozen or so family candid shots.
Your help in getting me headed is most appreciated.

  • Special editing with elements 7

Can Elements take a video file, and as it plays, let you fade into a still photo, then after 20 seconds, fade back to the continuing
moving video. I want to do this two or three times within the 3 minute or so video file?
    Thanks
    Howard

Absolutely. I believe that the easiest way to accomplish this is to place your Video on Video Track 1 (VT1), with any Audio on an appropriate Audio Track. Decide where you want your still to first begin "fading in" and place it on VT 2 (above your Video Clip). Adjust the total Duration of your still to suit. Remember, with our next step, we will we adding the fade in, so the still will slowly become visible. You will not really notice it, until into the Transistion. Experiment with the Duration of your still to suit.
Now, just drag a Cross-Dissolve from the Transitions Panel and place it on the Head of the still image. Do the same for the tail of the still image. Do not use a Dip-to-Black here, as it will completely hide your Clip on VT 1, at the start of the Transition. You can use other Dissolve Transitions, so experiment with those, as well.
The material on higher VT's takes prescedence over material on lower VT's. What we have done is commonly referred to as A-B Roll Editing. VT 1 is your A Roll, and VT 2 is your B Roll.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Can I move images edited with the trial version to the version from the Mac App Store?

I have been using the trial version of Aperture to determine if I like it. I am now ready to buy Aperture from the Mac App Store. Will my edited images be moved over to the licensed version automatically or what do I need to do to not loose my edits?
    Thanks for your help.
    Bob

You will be able to open the trial library in the purchased application even if it doesn't happen automatically.

  • External editing with Elements 6

When attempting to externally edit from Lightroom 2.3 to Elements 6 for Mac, the file does not automatically open in Elements as it used to do when I edited in CS2.  I find that I have to export the file from Lightroom, open the file in Elements and then import the file back into Lightroom once the edit is complete.  This seems extremely long winded and I feel I am missing something.
    Can anyone help please.
    Dave

I have almost the same problem. I have been externally editing in PSE5 as my primary. A few days ago, I installed the PSE7 trial. Since you can't run two PSEs at the same time, LR defaulted to opening in PSE7. PSE7 was causing me too many problems, so I uninstalled it thinking it would just default back to PSE5. Now the PS (not found) showed up in my primary external editor. Even after uninstalling PSE7 I checked under the the Adobe folder, and it still showed it there. Had to manually delete it from there. Still didn't work. So I tried doing a system restore back prior to PSE7 being downloaded. Still shows the Photoshop (not found) in the primary editor spot. I, too, can edit in PSE5 independently, save, and then import back into LR for further work, but that defeats the whole purpose of being able to externally edit in PSE from within LR.
Has anyone found the solution to this yet? I'm desperate! This all happened in the middle of trying to finish processing a wedding. Can use all the help I can get right now.
    Thanks!

  • How to get photos back out of the Elements organizer. Didn't know I could leave them in IPhoto and just edit with Elements.

  • Compatability with Elements 10

I have Lightroom 4 can I use/export images ok with Elements 10 with this OK?
also I have Topaz Adjust 4 can I use this with Lightroom as a plug in and if so how to I enter Topaz as Adjust 4 as a plug in?
    thankyou

Yes, you can use PSE 10 as an external editor with Lightroom4. I believe there was a bug that interfered with this operation, said bug being fixed (allegedly) in Lightroom 4.1RC.

  • Image editing in iPages?

I print up several 8.5" x 11" event posters for group activities. I would like to move on from text only posters to text and images. I would like to take pictures that I have taken and add traced outline images to my posters. Does anyone know if iPages and/or iPhoto allows a way to use image editing with the mouse to trace a line along the outline of objects depicted in a photo?

could you explain in more detail? How do one "apply transparency" etc. in Pages. Where is the free hand tool? It is difficult to follow your instructions as they are now.
Drag and drop colour bitmap or grascale bitmap. With bitmap still selected, go to the Graphic mode of the Inspector, and in the Graphic mode of the Inspector select the Opacity slider.
In the main menu bar, select Insert, in the Insert menu select Shape, and in the Shape menu select Draw a Shape (which is the freehand tool). When you have your shape, apply a stroke and a fill to it.
Continue to add shapes with strokes and fills until you have the look and layout you want. Then group the shapes, copy to another document, and delete the document with the bitmap template.
The step from the concept description to the menu description could be had from the Apple Pages manual. This type of drawing and colouring for posters emulates the shapes and colours of lithographic posters that were popular 1860-1960. The difference between a good design and a bad design is not really a difference in the software you select but in your own understanding of how to work with line and colour.

  • Editing with External Editors

Heya folks, a quick query as i suspect ive probably missed something, i have Pixelmator installed as a cheaper image editor with much of the functionality of Photoshop, and i want to use it as my external editor. How do i go about doing that? I go to Images > Edit With> but the option for external editor is greyed out.
    Any ideas?
    cheers
    Rowan

from page 350 of the user's manual:
To set an external editor in Aperture:
1 Choose Aperture > Preferences, or press Command-Comma (,), then click Export.
2 Click the Choose button below the External Image Editor field, navigate to an
application in the Select Application dialog, then click Select.
The application’s name appears in the External Image Editor field.
3 Choose the appropriate 16-bit file format (TIFF or PSD) from the External Editor File
    Format pop-up menu.
This is the file format Aperture uses when opening files in external editors.

  • Multiple Hard Drives for Video Editing with Premiere Elements 8?

I'm using Premiere Elements 8 for video editing. These are the specs I'm using:
The camcorder I used to shoot the footage is a Sony Handycam with  model number HDR-SR12. It's a digital HD video camera recorder that  shoots in NTSC 1920x1080i HD  recording. The footage was shot with AVC  HD  9M (HQ), which records in higher image quality mode. The  video  camera is connected to my computer through a USB cable.
The  computer  itself is a Windows 7 desktop computer. The CPU is an HP  Pavilion Elite  HPE-150f PC with Intel Core i7-860 processor. I imported  the video into  Premiere by selecting "File" --> "Get Media From"  and then choosing the third  option from the top.
My import  option is NTSC/AVCHD/Full HD 1080i 30 5.1 channel, which matches the  specs of the camera I shot the footage with.
Even with the patch 8.0.1 that should be preventing crashing, the program keeps crashing upon startup with one specific video project. Using the exact same video files for that project, I recreated the video, with Elements, and never ran into the problem. Both times, I had the patch installed.
At the moment, I am using only the single internal hard drive for everything (software, OS, video editing, etc.). It is 1 TB in size. However, I am informed that one hard drive is not recommended for video editing, and that I need at least two hard drives, one for OS and one specifically for video editing. I was also informed of FireWire 800 and eSata; however, it does not appear that my computer supports eSata.
Can this problem be resolved if I have an external hard drive and connect it to my computer with FireWire 800 (which the computer supports)? If not, what can be done so this problem doesn't arise in the future?
    Thanks for the help.

When you import the footage is there a red line across the whole of the timeline?

As you have the recreated project working fine I'd be inclined to put this down as a one-off glitch. If it happens again on a different project then it may be more worrying. You may want to consider using save-as to create multiple versions of your project (note this does NOT duplicate the source clips - so you won't be eating up much extra disk space). You could for example use save-as to create a daily version - ProjectName-Mon, ProjectName-Tue etc....

  • Editing with Photoshop Elements?

I'm very interested in purchasing Lightroom for managing and performing basic photo developing. I've seen references to using the full-blown Photoshop program for more in-depth image editing, and would like to know if it's possible to use Photoshop Elements instead, as I already have it, and cannot possibly justify spending the amount of money on Photoshop that it costs.
    Thanks for any help.
