Image file type and settings

hi i have a hard time determining which image file type works best in capt 3.
jpg's for example get really bad,
Which photoshop export settings (png 8/ 24 , dither no dither etc etc) work best and have a nice file size / image quality balance?
Can anyone help me out, much obliged and loads of karma points to you!

Hi there
I too use PNG images. Note that you have control over the quality settings for images.

  • Quicktime refuses to release file type and icon associations

    Has anyone else had this problem and how do I fix it?
    Changing the preferences doesn't fix it. File type associations in windows doesn't fix it. Help?!

    Ok, I kept getting nagged to upgrade QuickTime. So I did. Now QuickTime 7.4.1 has hijacked ALL my Windows image file associations, and won't give any of them back, no matter how many times I change QT’s settings. Why does QT even have a picture viewer? Who would use it? Or pay for it, as QT constantly nags you to do? Windows already has picture viewers, and there are thousands more free ones on the Internet. And why does Apple think that QuickTime is better equipped to handle my PhotoShop files, rather than my PhotoShop software?
    I'm really peeved! If I uninstall QuickTime, my web browsers generate errors. But if I don't uninstall, I can't use my other programs! So at this point, the product borders on being MALWARE. Why would Apple do this??? Will the next QT version also include MS Office, email, database, and text file association-hogging viewers too, so that my pain is complete?

    What is raw10 image file type format of X3-02 ? Is it same as camera raw files in general ? If so, is there a raw converter program with support for the file type ?

  • Dreamweaver setting wrong file type and creator codes

    First of all, I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.2 on an Intel-based
    Mac, with Dreamweaver CS3 9.0 build 3481.
    I have a site defined where I connect to my web server via
    FTP. On my server, I just upgraded my forum software to PHPBB 3.0,
    which created a new /forums/ directory. My plan is to use
    Dreamweaver to download that new /forums/ directory to my local
    site where I can edit the files. Inside the forums folder are
    several types of files, like ".php" files, ".htm" files, ".gif"
    files, etc.
    So, upon downloading the /forums/ folder to my local machine
    by dragging and dropping it (in Dreamweaver) from the remote site
    to the local site, I noticed that Dreamweaver insists on setting
    HFS file type and creator codes for files it recognizes, based on
    the filename extension.
    I've connected to the same server using the Finder and
    Transmit, and copied the remote /forums/ folder over to my local
    machine. Neither of those copies have files with file types and
    creator codes set, meaning they aren't actually set on the remote
    files and that this is indeed something Dreamweaver is doing on the
    fly as it downloads the files.
    I'm wondering if there's any way possible to disable this
    behavior, and just download the files like they are on the server?
    (File extension only). To make matters worse, on my Intel-based
    Mac, it's not even setting the proper codes, as you can see in the
    following image:
    http://homepage.mac.com/mdouma46/images/dreamweaver.png
    Notice for the ".php" document, it's attempting to set a file
    type of 'TEXT' and a creator code of 'DmWr' (DreamWeaver's creator
    code), but because the Dreamweaver developers didn't bother to take
    into account the byte-ordering differences between PowerPC Macs and
    Intel Macs, the codes are written in reverse: 'TEXT' becomes
    'TXET', and 'DmWr' becomes 'rWmD'. (If you're going to use
    low-level routines such as FSSetCatalogInfo() to set the file types
    and creator codes, you need to call CFSwapInt32HostToBig() on the
    OSType values before doing so, to make sure they're in Big-endian
    format).
    Anyone know where the conversion information is stored?
    Thanks in advance.....

    Creator codes are totally deprecated in snow leopard. as for a workaround you can use something like this.
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #ADD8E6;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    on open these_items
    repeat with this_item in these_items
    tell application "Finder"
    set the_file to POSIX path of (this_item as alias)
    tell application "System Events"
    set default application of file (the_file) to ("Main HD:Applications:Preview.app" as alias)
    end tell
    end tell
    end repeat
    end open</pre>
    save it as an application and drop files onto it to set them to open with Preview.

  • Best Image File Type & Size for Photo Books?

    When you select your photos to be included in a Photo Book submission, is there a required file type and maximum size. Most of my images are presently Photoshop .psd files and TIFF files of substantial size -- around 2 to 4MB, that I will have to import into iPhoto '09. Thanks.

    Interesting. Presently, all my image files are at 300 dpi.
    Remember that DPI has no meaning for a digital file - digital files have only dots - the per inch part comes form the print size so until you select a print size you had only "d" - not "dpi" - that is a totally meaningless number
    See +The Myth of DPI+ for more information
    How exactly is print size determined in the photo books -- from your selection
    Obviously from your selection - you place a photo into a frame and the frame size is the size
    You may want to take the tutorial for more information - http://www.apple.com/findouthow/photos/#books
    or, whatever size results from the image resolution.
    remember that images have no inherent size - they are just dots (pixels)
    Is the ideal resolution 300 dpi? Thanks.
    any image that will print at 180dpi or above will give good results (and will not get a resolution warning)

  • File Types and PSE7

    I can't double click on files any more and have them open in PSE7 editor. It started about two days ago. I've gone to the control panel and it still says PSE7 (although I did notice the PSD files say PSE7 editor and I it doesn't give me a choice of the PSE7 editor and when I browse there I can't get windows to let me chose the PSE7 editor to associate with the .png, .jpg, .jpeg, etc. Only the PSE specific files.
    Any ideas?

    If you want to change the default application for opening your files. select an image file format and say Open with. Select the other application you want to use and check the checkbox for using the application as default app.
    You need to repeat the process for different file-types.

  • How do I install Snow Leopard while keeping files, applications, and settings

    I need to update my system, I realized that I need Snow Leopard (quiet late) before Maverick. My question is, how can I install it keeping files and all the data. I found this on Internet, does it work?
    Install Snow Leopard while keeping files, applications, and settings
    If you follow these steps, the installer will replace your operating system if one is already present, but will preserve your account information and personal files.  You may have to reinstall some applications, however.
    Insert the install disc (or the first install disc if you have more than one) into your disc drive. Restart your computer while holding down the c key. This causes your computer to start up from the install disc rather than your hard drive. When you see the gray Apple insignia, release c .
    The Mac OS X installer should open automatically. Follow the on-screen prompts to read and accept the license agreement and begin the installation. When prompted to choose a destination disk, select your preferred location and click Install.
    When the Mac OS X installation finishes with the disc, restart your computer. After the installation completes, a configuration program may begin automatically if you are installing for the first time. You will need to supply basic setup information for your computer.
    Update your system software to ensure that you have the most recent operating system components.  From the Apple menu, select Software Update... , and then follow the instructions on the screen. Often, you will have to restart your computer, and you may have to run Software Update multiple times before it can completely update your system.

    That's why you need to back it up. You won't need to restore the backup immediately afterwards unless something goes wrong during the upgrade, but you'll need it later; the drive will eventually fail.

  • HT5409 I asked if AVCHD files can be played on Mac and the support site says to simply click on the icon and quick time will play it. A big lie. Just say it won't support the file type and tell us what apps to get.

    I asked if AVCHD files can be played on Mac and the support site says to simply click on the icon and quick time will play it. A big lie. Just say it won't support the file type and tell us what apps to get. anybody?

    I also had issues opening AVCHD files on case-sensitive filesystems.
    You can try these steps to solve the issue:
    Right click on the AVCHD file and select 'Show Package Contents'
    Right click on the BDMV file and select 'Show Package Contents'
    Rename index.bdm to INDEX.BDM (it seems that all files in the BDMV folder should be in UPPERCASE for Quicktime to open the AVCHD file).
    Go back twice and try again to double-click on the AVCHD file (Quicktime should open a window showing the multiple clips, as expected).

  • Saving multiple file types and sizes

    I design logos using Illustrator. After the design is approved I need to save it in multiple different file types and sizes. (ie. Jpg Hi, Med, Lo; tif; eps; pdf)
    Does anyone know of a script that can do this?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    I don't know of an existing script that does exactly this. You could make one though. Saving an Illustrator document to both 'eps' and 'pdf' formats is very straight forward once you know which options you want. Personally I would use Photoshop to create the required 'jpegs' Illustrator does not export to any given resolution only scaling at 72dpi… Open either the 'eps' or 'pdf' in Photoshop resize and save 3 times.

  • My download was an unknown file type and cannot be opened

    my download was an unknown file type and cannot be opened

    Sounds like the file extension was dropped when you saved your converted document.  Make sure that the .docx (Word) or .xlsx (Excel) extension appears after your file name when saving your document.
    You should be able to rename the document you already converted by adding the appropriate extension.  The file should then open as expected.
    Let us know how it goes!

  • What file type and codec should I use for creating a file to send to have an HDCAM copy made

    I'm prepping to take a video file of my film into a tape dubbing house to have an HDCAM copy of my project made. I'm using a PC, so Apple ProRes is not an option. What file type, codec, and settings do you recommend?
    I was considering MXF, but the highest quality codec is XDCAM 50, which only does up to 50Mbps (I think). I believe HDCAM works at 140Mbps, so I would rather not give them a file that's compressed to almost 1/3rd that, especially since the source is a 5K 5120x2560 project. DPX maybe? I've never exported DPX before because it's not an option on my copy of CS6 - maybe that has to be downloaded separately? I was considering a Quicktim in H.264 at 140Mbps, but I think that would mean some serious rendering for the tape house. I would like to be able to offer them a few different options and see what they prefer, but this is an area where my knowledge runs thin. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I'm hoping there's an industry standard that I can stick to.

    Your CS6 'Format' dropdown list should include DPX:
    Among the options you listed, DPX would be my choice.
    Be certain the dupe house can accept these files before proceeding.

  • How to see all image file types when saving images without selecting "all files"

    Hallo, and thank you fom reading.
    I am a person who saves a lot of images online in different folders with different names like G - 456 or F - 35.
    I have been using firefox 10.0.2 for a long time because of a bug (I guess) that made it easier to save images.
    When I saved an image it would always show me all the image files in any folder I wanted to save it, and that way making it easier for me to save files with the right names.
    Now with the newer firefox (currently 19.0) whenever I try to save a JPEG I only see the JPEG files in the folder and only way to see the others is by selecting "save as type" all files, but with this I also see all the files that are not images.
    This used to save me a lot of trouble and a bit of time but I dont see anything in the options menu that can help me. Is there a way to recreate this function?
    Thank you for your time.

    I suspect this is a Windows problem. I am surmising the FilePicker uses the Operating System or Desktop facilities. Does Windows 7 offer any other file categories like ''images'' ?
    I do not normally use Windows 7, but may the option depend upon the directory being an indexed one, I ask after finding this thread ''Bring File types tab back'' [http://www.windows7taskforce.com/view/819]
    This question is a duplicate of [/questions/951764]
    Normally I would lock the duplicate question, but in this instance I will leave it open as it is unanswered and someone may give a better reply.

  • Two step import, downsizing image file sizes and/or keeping copies?

    hi all,
    leonie was kind enough on another thread to suggest a two step import from the iphone in order to make sure that there is no accidental deletion or data loss. my understanding (i'm repeating it here myself in case i am misunderstanding) is that this routine involves 1. importing images into Aperture via the conventional import method and then 2. backing up to iTunes (to save the images) and 3. verifying (visually i think) that the images are in the Aperture database and then if so allow Aperture to delete all the images from the iPhone.
    this seems to make sense to me but i realized i had a couple of questions about general "photo hygiene" related to this kind of thing.
    1. is there some way to downsize file size after images are imported into Aperture? i take a ton of photos and only some are important to keep at a high resolution and i feel like i am stuck between having a huge Aperture database cluttered with lots of photos at high resolution /or/ turning down the file size and finding that i have an important image that is at a low resolution because i forgot to turn up the file size (i think these are in settings somewhere in my phone) before i took the photo or only realized later that it was important to have this image at higher resolution. if i could downsize while thinking about it in Aperture this seems like it would work.
    2. does anyone keep an external copy of their images outside of the Aperture database?
    thanks

    hi terence,
    thank you.
    so can i ask if anyone is using an iphone and/or what setting(s) and/or resolution folks are using?
    i guess i have a bit of a dilemma in that i take a ton of photos and i only use one at a high resolution while the others can be something as insignificant as a visual note to myself. and it kind of kills me that these could be 1.2 MB in that i have a lot of them. i sort of wish there was a way to downsample imagery since a lot of these are not so important.
    anyway. yeah i guess i was wondering if folks do a referenced library or keep an extra copy as a backup (i guess i am 'embedding' images in the library but i forget what i call this in aperture) - and i have started to wonder if there is some utility to doing a referenced library or keeping a backup but this seems like overkill while at the same time a referenced library would allow me the ability to downsample images from what i can tell but i am just guessing here since i haven't tried this method.
    thanks.

  • Two curiosities:  file 'type' and Nikon window on Import

    Can anyone tell me why, when I run my cursor over an image file, it shows not only the dimensions, date, camera and size but also the "File type" as Jasc After Shot Picture? I uninstalled all Jasc programs and files after getting Lightroom. Still, that 'type' shows on recent imports that had nothing to do with Jasc. Where is that coming from? Can I change it?
    Second, occasionally a Nikon window opens when I hit 'Import' in LR that says the "default folder is unavailable". Where would that be coming from?
    I'm curious - neither seems like a big problem but I'd like to know where they are coming from . . .

    Sorry I omitted that. Desktop is Win XP SP3; laptop is Vista Home; LR 2.1. (LOVE IT!)
    I've searched everywhere with no luck to find some kind of default setting - can't find any reason for those two things I know this is kind of off the wall but am hoping someone might know.
    What does your image show for 'Type'?
