Image files corrupting in Photoshop CS2

We are working on large 250-300MB files in Photoshop CS2 and when we open them in Photoshop a pattern across the image appears that appears to be replicating a part of the image in a different color channel, a brightly colored banding appears across the image. The thumbnail when opening shows none of the pattern problem and the image opens cleanly with the GraphicConverter, but of course with no layered files. Can you help? Have you ever seen this?

As I said, the one time this happened to me was when I had a bad hard drive that soon went out on me. But it didn't happen when I opened them only when I saved them.
Is it happening after you save one or when you first open it?
Your Mac should have come with a Hardware Test disk, start up off of that and check the hard drive and ram.
You can also try trashing Photoshop's preferences or changing it's scratch disk.
And there is Rebuild Launch Services database that can be run with a third party utility like Cocktail, and Repairing Permissions. Also, running Disk Warrior to repair the directory. If you don't have Disk Warrior you can repair the directory using your original install disks, it's pretty anemic compared to Disk Warrior but it might tell you if there is something wrong that it can't fix.
There is also reinstalling Photoshop and/or an archive and install of the system. I'd be sure and do a hardware check first, though, because if it's the hard drive or ram none of the above will fix it.

I see this sort of error notice in Bridge and Photoshop, preceded by the message " Photoshop (or Bridge) has encountered a problem and must close. Tell MS.
    Yes or No."
It most frequently happens in PS when running Dfine 2.0. I have no clue what triggers the Bridge closure. It happens randomly.
CS3, so nobody gives a tinkers dam, I suppose.
I see this kind of message in software testing on a regular basis. Of course, when the test is under way, the software is generating a detailed log file which we package up as part of a bug report. Then at the bug scrubs, lively discussions ensue as to who has to fix what!
I can only image what would happen if the Dfine people and the PS people had to sit through one of those!

  • Editing non-raw image files in Adobe Photoshop

    Hi,
I am currently digging into the world of Lightroom and setting up a work flow which in my case needs to include editing non-raw files in Adobe Photoshop.
Please bear in mind that I am quite new to Lightroom so I am not sure I have found all shortcuts and settings to manipulate.
I will explain what I trying to do (and why) and hope that the community can comment and help put if possible.
I myself shoot almost everything in RAW format, and I have been using Photoshop (PS) and Camera Raw (ACR) for some years now. I am now on Photoshop CS6.
But now the amount of images to handle requires a CMS, so I went for Lightroom 4 - hoping/believing that I would find an effective and efficient work flow integration between the two Adobe products.
But I am more and more also helping others to enhance their images, and I most often get jpg files as image source.
I am used to using PS layers, filters, smart objects etc extensively to do what I want to do.
OK, I admin that I already use ACR quite a lot, and sometimes even as the only tool even for jpg images.
I have began diving/snorkeling with friends and often the images we bring back home is in jpg format, and so far I still believe that the best image "restoration" can be done in Photoshop using adjustment layers, channel mixing and filters to get satisfactory results.
So now on to my concerns and issues:
    1) Lightroom user interface efficiency - "Edit in"
When I want to edit a jpg image in Photoshop I :
    action
    comment
    - left click image to select it
ok, I agree this is needed
    - right click image to bring up context menu
ok, I agree this is needed
    - move cursor to "Edit in", and wait for another context menu
    ok, ...
    - click "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS6"
    Yes that's want I want
    - Lightroom presents the "Edit Photo with Adobe Photoshop CS6" selection menu.
Yes I know, I saw it the last
    nnn times I did it
    - if I need option "Edit a Copy" or "Edit Orginal" I move cursor again, left click to select ,
move cursor to Edit and left click
    - and finally Lightroom sends the jpg image to Photoshop as a jpg image
No, I want a tiff file since that
is what I have set up in
    preferences
OK, I know that I can also use the keyboard instead of mouse for this, but the number of actions required from my side is pretty much unchanged.
For a quick working, Lightroom and PS skilled person, this is just annoying.
Is this effecient?     Well it depends. For Lightroom beginners this is good. But for me it is a true annoying obstacle
    2) Lightroom "Edit in" - is it effective
Is this effective?     I say no.      I have specified in preferences that I want PS to receive a TIFF file in Adobe RGB 1998 color space
Also, I cannot change to TIFF in PS without losing the link between the two images. (If I do, the new TIFF file is not imported by Lightroom, so I have to that manually)
I have found out that I can choose the path "Select image - select "Open as Smartobject in Adobe Photoshop".
This will give me a tiff file, and when saved in PS the jpg and tiff files are linked and Lightroom has automatically imported the tiff file into the Catalog.
What I need / what I would like to know / what I would like to have:
    * Is there a (customizable) keyboard shortcut that enables me to: Select Picture + Use shortcut  - and then I end up in Photoshop (with the Edit option I use 90% of the time) ?
    * Is there a preference that I can set so that jpg images also are opened as tiff files in Photoshop per default?
    * Is there a way to select multiple images and launch them all in Photoshop (and keeping the link between the jpg and tiff files) ?
    * I would like a preference setting allowing me to choose that any new file coming back from Photoshop (after "Edit in" ) is written to a sub-folder, or to a specific folder set by me.
This would align with my work flow for jpg handling, where the jpg is the "original" and the tiff file is what will eventually end up as image "master" (from where I print,  or produce web / HDTV jpg's).
    * Is there a way to automatically launch a Photoshop Action on the file coming from Lightroom?
This would also help in my work flow. E.g. I have currently 100 jpg's and avi files which are UW (under water shots) and the adjustment layers I build are always the same (to start with).
Of course, I can launch the Action once I am in Photohop  - but again, doing 1-5 times is ok, doing it more than 100 times ...
    * I am skilled computer programmer  - can I use Lightroom SDK to write plug-ins to achieve the above enhancements ?
    Regards
    Bosse W

    * Is there a (customizable) keyboard shortcut that enables me to: Select Picture + Use shortcut  - and then I end up in Photoshop (with the Edit option I use 90% of the time) ?
-- The keyboard shortcut Command/Ctrl+E will perform steps 2-4 in your above list. You only have to click the Edit button, as the last choice (Edit Original, Edit Copy, Edit Copy with LR adjustments) will be remembered.
    * Is there a preference that I can set so that jpg images also are opened as tiff files in Photoshop per default?
-- No, a JPEG in Lightroom will always open as a JPEG in Photoshop. If you have made changes to the file that are not supported by the JPEG format (e.g. added a layer) when you go to save the file, it will be saved as either a TIFF or PSD, based on the preference in Lightroom.
    * Is there a way to select multiple images and launch them all in Photoshop (and keeping the link between the jpg and tiff files) ?
-- Yes, select all the files you want to edit, and use the keyboard shortcut, menu command, or right-click context menu command.
-- No, there is no automatic way to do this. If you use the Edit a Copy method, the copy is created instantly in the same folder as the original.
-- Yes and No, this is not something that can be setup in Lightroom, but you can set it up in Photoshop using the Script Events Manager.
    * I am skilled computer programmer  - can I use Lightroom SDK to write plug-ins to achieve the above enhancements ?
    -- Yes: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/photoshoplightroom.htmlhttp://www.adobe.com/devnet/photoshoplightroom.html

  • Image file corruption - please help

I am running a 15" powerbook using 756 mb ram on OS 10.3.9
This configuration has been the same since I bought it 18 month ago
The last couple of weeks I've been having problems with corrupt appearing on the hard drive. It is not every file but there is no way of predicting it.
I have tried different ways of transfering the images (firewire and usb). I have tried different flash cards and also transfered the same images to different folders and then I find different images are corrupted. I have tried viewing the images with different software - they still corrupt. I have tried different formats for the images (jpeg & raw) still the same. Sometimes the thumbnails look ok and the main file goes wrong, sometimes the thumbnail looks wrong and the main file is ok!
    One is posted here http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i129/spud159/DPP07D6051E142831.jpg

    Hi Spud159,
There are various factors which can cause corruption such as this. Here are a few trouble shooting steps I suggest you perform.
First, pop the original install DVD in the drive and by pressing the OPTION key during boot enter the diagnostic mode. Perform a full hardware diagnostic test. This way you can check your hard drive, ram and logic board. It may catch an error.
You have a non-standard ram configuration so I'm guessing you added more ram manually. Remove this ram, boot up using the stock configuration and see if the same happens.
If you continue to see the corruption and none of the above have shown a fault in the hardware, a re-installation of OS X is in order. Before doing that however, add another user to your computer and try opening images using that new account. If that does not have any affect, format and re-install OS X using the supplied install DVD.
If the problem persists even then, contact your nearest AASP and ask them to have a look at it.
    Good luck!

  • Image Bands/Corruption in Photoshop CS5 When Editing from Aperture

I'm having some problems when editing Aperture images in Photoshop. When I choose an image I want to edit, it opens in PS CS5 with bands of corruption in the image. Now, I hate to use the term corruption, because when I zoom the image to 100%, the bands disappear, so the image isn't truly corrupted. You can see what's going on with the images here: http://gallery.me.com/drewje#100004
I'm using Aperture 3.1.1 with RAW image formats and using an Aperture-managed library, not referenced. I've tried opening in Photoshop with both TIFF and PSD 16-bit formats with identical results. I'm using the high performance energy saver setting, to enable my NVIDIA GeForce 9600m video card in my first gen unibody MacBook Pro. I'm using version 12.0.2 of Photoshop CS5.
I'm getting no help on the Adobe boards, so was hoping someone over here had some ideas or thoughts on how to fix this. Anyone?

I'm just getting back to check on this thread now, but this does appear to fix the problem. I hate to call this "solved" because it's clearly a bug that exists, but it's nice that there's a workaround. I was just about to look at moving to Lightroom. I should be able to live with this.

  • Photoshop CS2 Corrupted by Virus

I had the unfortunate experience of having a virus infect my pc. After the virus was removed, Photoshop would not launch. Received error messages regarding bad files, access denied, etc. Decided to unstall the program and then reinstall. The uninstall seemed to work -- meaning t went through some actions and eventually stopped. But when I tried to reinstall, I got this message:
Error 1321.  The installer has insufficient privileges to modiy the file c:/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS2/Scripting Guide/Sample
                                       Scripts/JavaScript/Active layer.jsx.
Dead in the water at this point.  Suggestions?   (Using XP Pro).
    Joe

Reinstall the application from your disc or the backup image you made of the files you downloaded.
Search the Adobe site for instructions on how to do a full removal first.  This may help:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/331/331405.html
Beyond that, your system itself may be corrupted.

  • VBA code to import scanned images into Photoshop CS2 with TWAIN

    Hi,
I have to develop a solution that automates the scanning of an image using the TWAIN driver interface. Once scanned, the image appears as a new document in Photoshop where it will be further processed using VBScript scripts.
    The solution so far :
Using the freeware 'EZTW32.dll' (copied into C:\WINDOWS\System\), I am able to open the TWAIN scan dialogue on screen, using the function 'TWAIN_AcquireToClipboard(Me.Hwnd, nPixTypes) from the 'EZTW32' dll.
Once the image is scanned, the TWAIN driver is automatically closed, leaving the scanned image on the Windows clipboard.
I then launch Photoshop CS2 using a shell code :
(It is important that Photoshop runs minimized)
    Dim strPathname As String
    Dim lngShellReturn As Long
    Dim appRef As Object
    Dim newDocRef
    strPathname = "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Photoshop.exe"
    lngShellReturn = Shell(strPathname, vbMinimizedNoFocus)
    Set appRef = CreateObject("Photoshop.Application")
When Photoshop is running, then a new document is created and the scanned image is pasted into the document from the Windows clipboard...
    Set newDocRef = Documents.Add(8.268, 11.693, 600, "New Doc")
    newDocRef.Paste
OK, this works up to a point. The newly scanned image appears automatically in Photoshop.
The big problem is that when the user makes a change in resolution or draws a selection box in the TWAIN dialog, this data is not recovered from TWAIN, so the image size parameters in the new document cannot be set.
A beter solution would be to write code that emulates the menu commands in Photoshop CS2:
File -> Import -> [Current Scanner]
that launches the TWAIN driver for the current scanner (the code must close TWAIN immediately after scanning). In this case, the resolution and image selection parameters are also imported into the new document.
I am currently refering to the Photoshop CS2 SDK. Do I need to request the Advanced SDK ?
Once beyond this point, then I think I can continue the image processing routines using VBScript as per the SDK.
Any help or other pointers to the TWAIN problem would be VERY APPRECIATED !
    Lars

PLEASE IGNORE MY PREVIOUS POST !
I have now fully resolved the TWAIN problem. It works perfectly and is very robust. I am now continuing with the batch image processing for the newly scanned images using the Photoshop CS2 SDK scripting documents, that I find very detailed, well written, and VERY helpful :)
    Peace and love,
    Lars

  • File types won't associate with Photoshop CS2

I have installed Photoshop CS2 as a part of the Video Production Suite. I am having difficulty associating my image file types to PS CS2. Windows defaults to its image viewer and will not change in the Folder Options in Windows. How can I do this within Photoshop?
When I installed from the DVDs I was not presented with the File Association Window, as the the Help file indicates.
    Thanks!

check edit preferences in bridge. there's some file handling prefs in there. set cs2 to handle the images that you want it to.

  • "unsupported image file" message

hi there, this is the message that appears with some tiff files saved by Photoshop CS2: unsupported file image.....
But if I export the master of the file and open back in photoshop, the file is OK
Does anybody can solve this problem?
I've tried rebuilding all the projects but still happens the same and sometimes the "corrupted" files work fine after but other that were OK, give the error message.... !?!?!?!?
It's frustrating for my job, wasting a lot of time to export, save, then import again without solution
    THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

    How big are the TIF's?
Are you reading them across from an external HDD?
Is the external on FW400, FW800 or eSATA?
I used to have problems with 200+Mb TIF's from scans, but this got corrected by the development team. Recent posts say that there is still a problem with very big TIF's.
Other possibility is the graphics card. If you have the 6600, then it's slow speed may be causing Aperture to "time out" waiting for the TIF to render. This will be exacerbated by a slow external disk sub-system. Again, this should be associated with big TIF files of >200Mb.

  • Is there a cure for persistent file corruptions across the suite?

i am having terrible and consistent problems with file corruptions across the suite. for example…
1: i collected for output (indesign) – corrupted over 100 small images that were linked.
2: opened an indesign job and all linked files failed to update and could not be imported (simply would not import those files and were all corrupted).
3: had a hang in photoshop followed by a 150:30 error (would not open any of my applications). this prompted a clean install of system and adobe cs4 see below
4: most recently, had a hang in photoshop (photoshop will also no "force quit") whilst indesign was open. two of my image files corrupted and, most surprisingly, all my illustrator files that i had placed also corrupted (will not even open in illustrator any more). illustrator was not even running at the time, so, get this – a hang in photoshop destroys illustrator files simply because they are placed in indesign.
this last event has made me more certain than ever that there is a fundamental problem at the cs4 core.
    can anyone help?
    please note the following:
i am running a macintosh imac, 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (latest imac), with 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 ram.
before this last disaster, i had reloaded the system software (archive and install), and updated it all the way to version 10.5.8
i then uninstalled the creative suite, ran the cleanscript from adobe, reloaded the creative suite, downloaded all the cs4 updates
(so, latest mac, latest system, latest cs4 – all clean installs).
is there something i can do? or is this just a very unstable and disappointing upgrade – i have had nothing but problems from day one!
many thanks if anyone has any advice.

    Re: 150:30 error:
Please try this KB article's solutions, and report back on how it went for you. If you can provide details about any recent OS updates, backups, or migrations, that would help is nail down the root cause of the new rash of this error for Mac users recently:

  • Editing in Photoshop CS2 and Viewing in iPhoto

I have iPhoto 6 and Photoshop CS2. I would like to do my RAW file edits in Photoshop CS2, but if that image is already in my iPhoto library and I make changes to the file in Photoshop, will iPhoto regenerate a new thumbnail for the changes when I open iPhoto up again?? I will be accessing my photos from my iPhoto library in Photoshop, but I was just wondering if it will mess something up in iPhoto after the changes are made...??? Any information you have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have been looking for the same info. Check out this post - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1787687&#1787687.
This is a work around as the combination of iPhoto and PS (or any other external editor) does not yield a complete solution. If you edit out of iPhoto, you end up having to reimport the image which means that iPhoto now has 2 versions of it and you do not have the ability to "Revert to Original".

  • Pushing Photoshop CS2 to its limits with ActionScript

I'm using Photoshop CS2 with Windows XP (lastest SP) and a Core2 4 Gb RAM PC.
    Here's what I did :
I developped a javascript file for photoshop that opens another (pretty huge) file and reads it line by line and executes line by line.
This helped me to execute a huge javascript stuff.
This javascript stuff... generates one of the biggest (if not the biggest) maze in the world.
    But.
Photoshop "agrees" to create a big file.
Photoshop "agrees" to draw in it for a lot of times.
Each 20 draws, Photoshop "agrees" to empy ALL the history (i think this would help to free RAM or whatever).
After say 80 % of the stuff done, there's an error that pops up.
This is not a javascript problem, I swear I've been looking for it for months now.
My generated javascript file is okay.
You can download the whole stuff here, uncompress it into the Photoshop script folder (usually "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Paramètres prédéfinis\Scripts") and launch it (via "File=>Scripts=>m")
    What I don't get is :
    - if Photoshop "agrees" to create a big file.
    - if Photoshop "agrees" to draw in it for a lot of times.
    - if each 20 draws, Photoshop "agrees" to empy ALL the history (i think this may help to get RAM)
why on earth does it stop with a problem that seems to have nothing to do with memory allocation (but it has actually : I've just generated more than 1500 scripts and each time I made the script bigger and launched it : it worked without any problem at all so this is not a problem from my script (I've generated (with my own C program) a BMP file based on that javascript file and it generated the maze properly)).
I'm pretty convinced this is a problem with Photoshop, and only Photoshop.
Another problem I had to face that is documented nowhere, even in the JavaScript help file, (I told you I pushed Photoshop to its limits ) is that you are limited to 999 points when you create a path in JavaScript. Why is that ? This is not normal. So I had to modify my entire Javascript program to make it work properly. It has to create paths with 999 pixels, then draw them, clear the path, and son on.
Please tell me if my script works either with CS4 and / or with Windows Vista.
My goal is to create something like 15000 x 15000 pixels files (I'm not joking).
I was counting on Photoshop to use its own swap file and help me to generate mazes bigger than the ones my C program generates. But it can't for now.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here's what I've just tried : a vbs file that launches photoshop CS2, then executes action "M1" then action "M2"
Action "M1" executes the JavaScript "M1"
Action "M2" executes the JavaScript "M2"
The JavaScript M1 executes 998000 lines
The JavaScript M1 executes 1000 lines then stops.
So in essences I should have to :
    (1) launch "M1" that creates the image and then executes 998000 lines
    (2) save the image
    (3) quit photoshop
    (4) re-launch photoshop
    (5) re-load the previously saved image
    (6) launch "M2" that creates the image and then executes 998000 lines
    I'll try that tonight.
This is far from being easy and nice. I hate when we need hacks to make simple things work
Anyway here's the source codeto launch Photoshop then the ActionScript M1 then the ActionScript M2 (if it is of any use) :
    REM =======================================================
    DIM objApp
    SET objApp = CreateObject("Photoshop.Application")
REM Use dialog mode 3 for show no dialogs
    DIM dialogMode
    dialogMode = 3
    DIM id1
    DIM id2
    DIM id3
    DIM id4
    DIM desc1
    DIM ref1
    id1 = objApp.CharIDToTypeID( "Ply " )
    SET desc1 = CreateObject( "Photoshop.ActionDescriptor" )
    id2 = objApp.CharIDToTypeID( "null" )
    SET ref1 = CreateObject( "Photoshop.ActionReference" )
    id3 = objApp.CharIDToTypeID( "Actn" )
    Call ref1.PutName( id3, "M1" )
    id4 = objApp.CharIDToTypeID( "ASet" )
    Call ref1.PutName( id4, "Olivier" )
    Call desc1.PutReference( id2, ref1 )
    Call objApp.ExecuteAction( id1, desc1, dialogMode )
    id1 = objApp.CharIDToTypeID( "Ply " )
    SET desc1 = CreateObject( "Photoshop.ActionDescriptor" )
    id2 = objApp.CharIDToTypeID( "null" )
    SET ref1 = CreateObject( "Photoshop.ActionReference" )
    id3 = objApp.CharIDToTypeID( "Actn" )
    Call ref1.PutName( id3, "M2" )
    id4 = objApp.CharIDToTypeID( "ASet" )
    Call ref1.PutName( id4, "Olivier" )
    Call desc1.PutReference( id2, ref1 )
    Call objApp.ExecuteAction( id1, desc1, dialogMode )

  • LaserJet Output Changes between Illustrator & Photoshop (CS2)

Win XP on Dell PC, Adobe CS2 + Bridge, Huey Pro 1.5.0 color management, HP Color LaserJet 3800 Postscript Printer, printing a hi-res CMYK TIF.
    1. How can I synchronize the color output of a TIF file between Illustrator & Photoshop.
    2. And what is causing this variance?
    3. Also, Huey Pro is new on my system. Would it be my best option to color proof this image onscreen for the closest representation for final output (by digital printing press)?
When I print this TIF file directly from Photoshop CS2 = darker/richer CMYK output.
When I print a layout in Illustrator CS2 with this exact same TIF linked into the layout = different/lighter CMYK output on the same PS printer.
My system is color managed by Huey Pro & my educated guess would be that Huey is not causing the differences in output. Right?
Is there something in Bridge I should check?
This has been a longterm problem I've been needing to resolve...

What exactly do you want to do with both the apps?
Since the exchange of files from AI to PS is based on PDF, I wouldn't expect problems. The only question is, if Photoshop CS2 will be able to read PDF 1.5, since that's the format AI CS6 embeds in its files. If it doesn't work, you could still save a PDF from AI and make it any other PDF version.
Illustrator can read lower version PSD.
Copy-Paste might be a problem. I can't experiment, since I don't have that PS version any more.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS2 has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Just starting to get this error on open in CS2 after a few months of smooth sailing on a new system (below). CS2 now cannot open. It started occasionally and increased. Tried reinstalling. Tried deleting the PS config files and same error. Any suggestions?
Here's a sysinfo paste of my system.

Just ran memtest and received no errors. This more or less clears the hardware. I have no idea how to proceed. Does adobe offer any direct support for this sort of problem?
