Image frame borders

What I'm trying to do is overlap photos in Indesign with a black border (no problem there) but on the overlapping areas I'd like a white border around the black border to add some depth- is there a way to apply two borders to a frame? or do I have to create a white box and put it behind the image?

In the Stroke panel, select Stroke Styles from the flyout menu. Click New. Choose Stripe from the Type pop-up menu. Play with the arrows on the left until you have a thick black stroke starting at about 20%. Names the style and click OK, then click OK again. Use that style. You'll need to pick Paper as the gap colour in the Stroke panel.

  • What's the difference between Image and Image Frame?

    I'm a little confused about how Muse treats bitmap images. Sometimes when you resize a high resolution image, the resulting bitmap is resized to the final wanted resolution but sometimes the bitmap is stored in hi res and is only resized in the browser view.
    I have a hires logo and I want to put it in the web in different sizes but instead of storing a resized image, Muse always stores it in full hi res. I believe it has something to do with being inside an Image Frame because images that are not inside an image frame are stored resized. But if I double click the image frame so the image is selected (with orange borders), and then copy it, when I paste it again, it is also pasted with the Image Frame. If I use the menu command File/Place, it also appears inside an Image Frame.
    So to make long story short, what I need is to place a hi res image, reduce it in size and I want Muse to save it at that size, not at original resolution.
    Of course I know I can resize it in Photoshop and use the resized image but that's not the point here.

  • A part of an image frame is on other page as well, it is misplacing while creating PDF for print

    I am working on a design in which there is an image frame box with outline & shadow. This box is continuing from one page to other page as well. (80% on one page & 20% on the other) When I am previrewing it in InDesign Booklet SE, it's showing perfect but when I created new document in that and look at the design that image box is coming only on one page not on the other...I am trying to break the box into two, but the problem is outline...it creates outline on all the 4 sides on both parts of the broken image frame resulting in outline in between the image, which is where the page folds. I don't know how to solve this. Will highly apppreciate any response/ideas. Thanks!

    InBooklet SE had some problems with creating new documents and frames that crossed the spine, as you've discovered.
    This MIGHT work, though: copy the image and paste in place so you have two copies on top of each other, then crop them in opposite directions to stop at the spine. I surmise you've added a stroke to the frame, so use the direct select tool to select the frame edge along the spine on each one and delete that segment. This will probably be easier to do if you put the images on separate layers so you can hide one while trying to work on the other.

  • JS CS3 How can I find -and delete- anchored empty images frames

    I have a script that works fine with text,
    I need the same function, but find and remove anchored empty image frames
    thx
    var myDoc = app.activeDocument
    for(var myCounter = myDoc.textFrames.length-1; myCounter>=0; myCounter--)
    var myFrames = myDoc.textFrames[myCounter]
    if (myDoc.textFrames[myCounter].contents == ""){
    myDoc.textFrames[myCounter].remove()

    I'd do it this way:
    1. Grab the document's allPageItems.
    2. Iterate over it, ignoring text frames.
    3. Check to see: (a) if the parent is a character and (b) if the graphics collection of the page item is empty. If so, delete it.

  • Placing the nth page of an ID document into a image frame.

    In the desktop version of IDCS3 it is possible to place a page from another InDesign document into a image frame. For multi page documents you can select the page to import in the place dialog if the "Show Import Options" check box is ticked.
    I would like to replicate this in a javascript I am working on, but the place options to do this elude me.
    For multi page pdf placement this can be achieved by using the
    > app.pdfPlacePreferences.pageNumber
    option. Is there an equivalent for InDesign documents?
    Thanks in Advance.

    When i Place a PSD in Indesign it comes in at 200+% while the image frame is considerably smaller. How do i place so that the image and image frame match?

    Peter,
    The screenshots tell you everything.
    The second one tells you how the image frame is automatically set up after a one-click place. It's the blue stroked rectangle with the eight control points at each corner and mid-way along the line. This image frame is generated at a proportionally correct height and width for the image it contains.
    Now, if you look at the third screenshot (click on it to see it at a larger size), you will see I've used the direct selection tool (white arrow) to click on the image within the image frame. This CLEARLY shows the image (within the image frame) is substantially larger than the frame generated to contain it. This is indicated by the yellow stroked rectangle with the eight control points at each corner and mid-way along the line.
    Notice that the blue and yellow rectangles are vastly different sizes.
    In InDesign CS5.5, when i clicked to place the image, the image would fit perfectly within its image frame. the blue and yellow rectangles would match.
    I had no need to go click on the proportional fill and centre buttons like i need to do now in CC.
    I have a keyboard shortcut to place. I can't do File > Place for the amount of images i need to place.
    So to reiterate: How do i place an image so that the image and image frame match?

  • Is there a quick & easy way to replace an image within an image frame?

    Is there a quick and easy way to replace an image in an image frame that is already set up with the proper effects?
    In my example, I have a photo grid and just need to replace the photos periodically. Everything is already in place in the grid. I don't want to recreate the grid on the page.
    I thought that I could have clicked to get the brown frame for the image and placed a new one, but that didn't work. Or, I could have right clicked and found something like "replace image", but that didn't work.
    How can I quickly and easily just click on the image I need to replace and replace it with another one?

    There is an easy way to do this. Click on the image you would like to change and then change the fill to the new image. You will see the fill option in the upper left when you have the image you would like to change selected.

  • Raw image frames to x264?

    Does anyone know if it's possible to encode raw image frames, like a directory of PNG files, directly into x264? I know how to use FFMPEG and Mencoder to do it, but I would like to be able to go straight in.

    I'm not sure what you mean by being "able to go straight in". But since mencoder can encode to H.264 using x264 and you already know how to convert a bunch if image files to a video stream using mencoder you're basically set. Something along the lines of
    mencoder "mf://*.png" -mf fps=25 -nosound -of rawvideo -o output.264 -ovc x264 -x264opts bitrate=800:bframes=2:b_pyramid:deblockalpha=2:deblockbeta=2:subq=3:4x4mv
    should work (with all the options being just examples and not required).
    Note: You may have to recompile mplayer to make it actually support x264. But it works and I've already done it

  • Interfacing with Scion Image Frame Grabber?

    I have a Scion Image Frame Grabber in my PC & am trying to control it via LabView Vision. Scion has no LabView drivers, but has a dll & SDK available. However, their driver expects C++ pointers as arguments & returns ptrs. My thought is to write a cover driver in C++ to shield labview.
    Anyone have drivers for this, or experience with this frame grabber board?

    Thank you for posting on the forums. While National Instrument's driver and native IMAQ support obviously does not interface to third party boards, if your board does include a dll that allows you to control the frame grabber then you may be able to get the board working in LabVIEW. LabVIEW has a few options available for calling dlls, and this is probably the route you will want to go, unless another user already has a driver for this board and LabVIEW available.
    To get more information on calling dlls and interfacing to external code (particularly C/C++ code), then I would start by looking at the "Using External Code in LabVIEW" document. You can find this by opening LabVIEW, going to the Help menu, and clicking on "Search the LabVIEW Bookshelf..." This will ope
    n a pdf document that links to other great resources, one of which is the large "Using External Code in LabVIEW" document. Glance through this manual and then other information/examples on ni.com/support for some help in getting starting in calling DLLs from within LabVIEW if you have never had experience with this before.

  • Specifying image frame location with XML and Indesign

    I'm using CS4 to lay out a collection of documents of different lengths. The text comes from a database with XML tags attached, and is loaded into an Indesign template. I want to position image frames in the document automatically so they are next to their related text. Is it possible to insert some reference in the XML file which will tell the relevant image frame in the template to move next to its related text?

  • Dotted line around image frame in active state mode.

    In my active state, I have the button set to open in a new window once it's clicked on, which it does. But when I go back to the page, there is a dotted line around the image frame that doesn't go away. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi
    I believe you are using Firefox to view the site, as this occurs only on firefox.
    This is a known issue on their end as the selection for page object remains when we return to page.
    The details can be found on this link :
    https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Tools/Page_Inspector
    where it is mentioned that they would be taking this off from Firefox 29 onwards.
    From Muse we cannot control this as its a browser specific selector function.
    Thanks,

  • InDesign Data Merge / Image Frame Options

    Hi! I am learning Data Merge and am trying to set-up some product sheets using it. I have done pretty well so far but have an issue with the way images are importing into the different image frames. There are a few different image frames on the layout (main product image, tech drawing, tech icons, etc.), and I need each image frame to have different frame options set.
    So far using the general "Frame Fitting Options" for each has worked for all imported images except for my tech icons (which I can get to import correctly if I choose "Content Placement Options > Fit Frames to Images" from the Data Merge side menu --but when I do this, it applies to all image frames on the page and not just the one selected (which does not work overall).
    Is there another option to get the icon image frames to "Fit Frame to Image" automatically without using the Content Placement Options from the Data merge menu? Is there a way to use the Content Placement Options so it works for individual frames vs all on the layout?
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Liz

    Within the data merge, the frame fitting options apply to all frames that contain variable images, so if you want one variable image to fit image to frame, and another variable image to preserve its size, that cannot be done in the main file, but by manipulating the resulting merge file as P Spier suggests. With Data Merge, there are 8 ways an image can fit inside a frame - see the linked pdf: http://colecandoo.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/framefit.pdf
    This is further complicated when importing ai or pdf images that contain different possible sizes to import (e.g. trim box, bleed box, bounding box, etc). If the "show import options" dialog box is used when placing an image into a data merge file, the settings used in those import options are maintained in the file for the importing of any pdf/ai files via the data merge. What this means is that a data merge containing pdf/ai images can go haywire quickly if the import options change.
    There are some tricks that can be used to control a size of an image in a data merge, provided the images are pdf/ai. If images are being placed by bounding box size in the import options, a way is by drawing a no fill/stroke box behind (or on another layer) of the pdf/ai - this will be used to define the actual size of the image, instead of the top left/bottom right of the image. Similarly, if images are being placed by media box, a similar technique can be used by making the illustrator artboard the size used to define the incoming image size.
    There are also other ways to control the way an image grows/shrinks when importing via the data merge. I have written about that elsewhere, but the trick relies on using making the variable image an anchored object in a larger text frame and controlling its coordinates with text and textbox formatting (e.g. top/bottom/center align; left/right/center, or tab position): Centering “fit frame to images” using InDesign CS6 | Colecandoo!

  • Create custom image frames in Master slides

    Hi folks-
    I see how to customize all the content for a custom theme, but I don't see where I can define new image frames in a custom Master theme. For example, say I have a dotted border I want to act as a new frame for a media placeholder. Where can I define this?
    Thanks.

    You can't add a custom frame because they aren't stored in the file when you give it to someone else. Let me rephrase that, you COULD make a custom frame, and I actually did for Keynote 08, but it will ONLY work if you manage to install it on every copy of Keynote you use. If you open your file on a copy of Keynote that uses that frame, it will come up without the frame.
    You could go old school and just make a frame in photoshop, then stick that on the master slide and stick your photos behind it (there's an option to allow layering with master slide items). That's how Keynote used to work.
