Image goes to grayscale

In Photoshop CS5, if I drag-and-drop an image from one document to another, it has suddenly started going to grayscale rather than RGB. Any ideas on what setting I screwed up would be appreciated

See if this works:
Pick up your iPod, stand over a carpeted ground, with the bottom play/pause side of your iPod vertically facing the ground. Hold it about three feet off the ground and drop it.
You are at your own risk when you do this (as is when you are doing anything with your iPod). Because if this does damage your iPod, Apple will not cover for it, and it will void your warranty. But, I suggest that you give it a try, since I've never heard that anyone has gotten a damaged iPod from doing this. Just do it carefully, is all.

Transparency and overlays are really just arithmetic on the images. It
is either done by the windowing system or by you. At the moment you
can't set transparency on LV controls. You can set it on LV floating
windows on some OSes, but then you will need to have the windows lined up.
A more direct approach is to lighten or darken the color image elements
based upon whether they will display over white, black, or a shade of
gray. If the images don't have the same size pixels, this will have a
first step of resampling th
e images so they do. Then combine the pixels
using the transparency you were going to apply to the color and the
shade of gray beneath it. I'm being vague here because there are lots
of physical models for combining colors.
If I look in my paint program I see about fifteen, so this is where you
get to make a choice and decide if black behind a red pixel is black, or
dark red. It all depends on whether these are two transparent
images(acetate sheets) backlit, or is it a transparency over a
nontransmitting media like paper. Anyway, if you can be more specific
about what you want, none of this is hard, typically just scaling the
int32s, adding, and some sort of normalization.

I have problems with playing movies which are located on a Toledo learning platform. They open and play, however after some time the image goes completely blur, sound stays ok. Several movies have this problem, already checked with school movie is ok.

so the movie opens and I will see movie + sound for several minutes, however then the image goes blur. School alraedy checked they do not have this problem. So probably it is a problem located on my macbookpro.
Could someone please help me.
Already installed latest version of adobe flash player and controlled my security settings of safari.
How can I check that the movie seruly opens in adobe and for instance not in JW player?

Cropping bug: part of image goes black

A strange problem which cropped up after installing 3.2, and remains after re-installing 3.2.
When I go to crop a vertical image, the top 1/3 of the image goes black. I can still select what I want (guessing for the border in the black part) and, when I complete the crop, I get the whole image I want, with no black.
Interestingly, if I rotate the vertical to horizontal, I can crop with no black part. So I can use that to crop, and then rotate back to vertical. But there's clearly a bug here.
Any suggestions?

You are probably experiencing the crop and or onscreen proofing bug that was introduced with AP 3.2 update. It is summarized well in the posts on this page:

We need to wait for Apple to fix this one (or you can look at some of the other posts in this forum for reverting back to 3.1.3 until the fix is issued).

Help Me! My webpage rollover images goes away

Hi all. I'm realy stuck there with my rollover images. I got created my website using dreamweaver CS5 and when I opened it in firefox by myself all was ok, but when my friend opened page all rollover images jump to left side of webpage. So it mean that only i can see all normaly, but all other not.
Please help me. I can't continue my work now.
Note: My monitor wide resolution is 1440, My friend wide monitor resolution is 1920.

Can someone help me to center one short text in my webpage?
I tryed to do what i know but dhis doesnt help me.

Yes, I have been using the software that came with this printer and has been working great for 2 years however I couldn't print clip art, I asked the place that sold the plotter to me and they said with the software that came with the printer I could not print clip art and I had to formal an illustrator and recommended Adobe

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help:
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

[SOLVED] Image going over the size of my TV

I just upgraded my TV to a 47'' panasonic SmartTV from my old LV 32'' one.
I connect it via HDMI for video playback and xbmc use: The video card is a nVidia GT 240
The problem I'm facing is, at 1080p @ 60Hz, the image goes over the edges of the TV, like is bigger than the tv itself, so you lose some inches from each side.
At 720, the image looks to fit right but this is not the desired resolution.
I use nvidia-settings in order to tweak xorg.conf, but I had to add some options by hand for the fonts to have 96dpi.
Can anyone help me to find the solution for this?
I have a windows partition for gaming and when I booted it up for testing i faced the same issues.....

The problem is the TV itself. I have no idea why, but regular HD TVs usually cut a few pixels from each side, doing a slight zoom in. This is called overscan. You can usually disable this in the TV settings by setting the image size to "fullscreen" instead of 16/9.
Some quick Googling gave me this article, it seems pretty detailed (I'm learning myself right now why all TVs do this).

Images going black

I use a Dual G5 2.5GHz with 2 GB ram. I shoot my images with a Nikon D200 in raw format. The G5 has a ATI Rad9800 XT with 256 MB DDR using a 23 inch Apple display. I have two internal 250GB 7200rpm drives plus 3 external 250GB LaCie drives.
I'm running the latest version of OSX.
Ever since I upgraded to Aperture 1.2 I have been experiencing images going black after I have been working for 5-10 minutes and using the crop tool or even the exposure tool. I thought version 1.5 would eliminate the problem.
Is it my system? Should I add more ram? De-frag the hard drive?
Do I have to upgrade my video card?
Could all of my external firewire drives be causing any problems?
(Maybe I should try Aperture with all of the drives off ??)
It's just getting a little frustrating having a lot of images to work with and then running into the blacked out image with high regularity.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated !

I also have the same problem (Dual 2.0GHz G5 with 2.5GB RAM and Radeon 9650 gfx card at 1920x1200 res screen - all my photos are RAW Canon 20D).
It almost seems like a problem with how the graphics card handles it's image overlays. I find the black image will often appear if I try and switch between images before the previous one has completed its display adjustments (i.e. the status monitor is still showing heavy CPU usage). I find that clicking and slightly resizing the display window shows the photo again until I let go of the mouse button, at which point it goes black again. Sometimes instead of black I have a solid grey fill instead.
Once the black image effect has started I also find that the handles when resizing an image or text area in the photo book editor disappear.
I also find though that the loupe tool never seems affected so I often end up using that for a while rather than having to restart Aperture again!

When I use 'straighten' the image goes blurry (iPhoto 11)

I upgraded to the new iPhoto and now when I straighten images the image goes blurry (like it's halfway through loading the image). The old iPhoto didn't have this problem - I'm not sold on the new version..!!!

No, you're not: Why is the 'Straighten' tool so crude? But you are in a minority.

Generating poster images goes so far and computer restarts

I am downloading video from my camcorder; worked for a bit and restarts (i guess it's just too much to download at one time) ... but it was fine; annoying, but fine.
Now it recognizes the camera and gets about half way through the generating poster images (goes really fast up to then) and then just sits there; and usually ends up in the computer restarting. Sometimes it will go away; I am not sure if I have a bad sector on my camera's harddrive or what exactly is going on and why it won't finish with the poster images. Worked fine last night to generate them all.

I posted this question again which was answered on a different thread ... so I am providing the answer here as well ... this worked.

Just a quick thought that may help. Firstly, I'm assuming that you are importing AVCHD clips. If not, please ignore this advice as it applies only to AVCHD clips.
After connecting the camera to iMovie, rather than importing the clips, click Archive All at the bottom of the Import window that opens. In the Save As field, type a name for the archive. Choose where you want to save the archive, and then click Create.
Tip: Don’t save the archive inside the iMovie Events or iMovie Projects folder. This could make iMovie operate more slowly.
Having archived the clips using iMovie's Archive All feature, try importing them from the archive to an Event in iMovie. To do this, go to iMovie's menu and select File>Import>Camera Archive.
Possibly, iMovie will now import without any hiccups. The problem may be with the camera, rather than iMovie. Copying the camera contents (to an archive), rather than going through the full import process, may help smooth the way.
Another thought: The import problem may also be caused by a corrupt clip on the camera. On the camera, go through all the clips and check for any black (or blank) clips, possibly of short duration. Delete these from the camera. I'm assuming of course that you are not using a tape based camera, such as miniDV tapes. Now try importing to iMovie.

Photoshop CS3 - Image Processor; default Grayscale: Size Ratio prompt

I have just installed Photoshop CS3 and need to use the Image Processor to convert a batch of PCX (14,000 of them) images to JPG. When kicking this process off it does not run automatically as I get a prompt for each file asking me to input the Grayscale; Size Ratio.
Is there anyway I can disable this prompt so the Image Processor simply converts all the files in the directory specificed. If it's mandatory can I default it anywhere. Having to keep clicking Ok for 14000 files is going to be very time consuming.
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

Ok, so it looks like what I am after can be achieved, but I am still having problems.
In your last email one of the first instructions was "start recording an action" - how do I do this? Or is it an automatic feature?
When following the steps you provided and using the Automate > Batch option I get the errors,
"Could not complete your request because an unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found"
and then....
"There were no source files that could be opened by Photoshop"
Am I doing something blatantly wrong?

Adjusting the size of an image going into Photoshop from LR2

At the bottom of the Adobe Camera Raw converter, there is a box that allows you to either make the default RAW file smaller or larger as it goes into PS. In Lightroom 2, I found the Edit In command, and the options to change to 16 bit and the color profile picker, but I don't see a command to change the size of the image.
Any help would be appreciated.

It's not there. It will only go into Photoshop at native resolution. Then it is one second work to scale it in Photoshop if you really need to.

Why do all my images open as grayscale?

No matter what I change my settings to, all images I open in photoshop come in as grayscale. Any suggestions?

I'd like to tack on my question as well since it sounds similar.
I'm using PhotoShop CS4 and I've opened a black and white jpg. It's solid black with a white background and 300ppi. It's a ridiculously simple image. All I'm trying to do is change the black to a color. I wanted to just grab the bucket tool and dump on some color. However, when I selected the color as my foreground color, I noticed I'm no longer in RGB (seems only Adobe gods know why). It's showing a grayscale horizontal bar in my colors tab on the top right. I also see a rainbow colored horizontal bar. Color picker worked fine but as soon as I chose my color it went back to gray as my foreground color.
How do I get back to RGB? I've fiddled around with this for 2 1/2 hours looking for solutions online and in the help sections on the program. I'm now more educated on what colors are and how they're used and their deep geneauology but unfortunately, none of that has been able to tell me how to flip back to RGB.
Also, when I tried opening a new blank image the color selection was fine. Do you think it's something funky with the image locking in a grayscale? I also tried reopening PhotoShop.

I hit the "Image" tab, "Mode" and saw that "grayscale" was checked. I have no idea how that happened but I selected "RGB" and I have color. I'm sure you were all holding your breath, right?

Multi-cell printing: image going way off paper

I'm trying to print 2, or ideally 6, 2" square pictures for a visa. Whether it's 2 up or 6 up, I can get the layout to look fine in LR, but when I print the images don't nearly fit on the paper. I've tried both "retain size" and "auto expand."
I'm using 4x6 pgp Epson paper with a 3880. Selecting 4x6 paper in page layout (sheet feeder).
I've tried 0 cell spacing, 0 margins, and also small increments for those settings. I've done this before sucessfully, so I'm not sure what's going wrong. Anyone have any ideas?
Ideally the images will be exactly 2" square (the image is already cropped square), so I assume not doing borderless will be best, and keep the images away from the edges. But even doing only 2 up isn't working. Cell size is set to 2.0 inches.

Ah, it was the borderless enlargement setting, in the Epson dialog box, under page layout settings. Was on max, moved it to min and it worked like a charm.
