Hello! I have been experiencing some issues with my G5 recently, in which I haven't been able to find very much information at all on. So, I figured I'd try to get everything sorted out here, and see if any one knows how I can fix my problem?

From what I've seen, this seems to be a pretty common problem. It started one day when I discovered just a single pixel blue line running down the very center of my screen. After a while I learned to ignore it, but overtime, more began to appear. I am now up to 33 of these lines spanning in various different spots on the screen, all different colors. Again, I've learned to cope, but with time, more seem to be appearing. I'm just wondering how I can fix it, before it gets too bad?

I have never been able to find anyone with a problem even slightly like this on my type of computer, so I'm curious to know if anyone else has ever had this problem, or have seen of anyone who has? It seems that not too long after the vertical lines began showing up, that a weird sort of gradient type texture has appeared on many of the default mac images, along with images and videos in both preview and iMovie/quicktime. Here is an example of part of my screen:
I find that the places it effects the most are in games, such as Minecraft or the Sims 2, in which I used to play a lot a few years back. It also effects exported photos and videos if uploaded to the internet. For example, I uploaded a video to YouTube recently, in which I played back on my phone a few hours later to find that it had the gradient on it as well, only a red version. My brother seems to think its a virus, but I'm not sure? Does anyone know how I can fix this?
Thank you for taking the time to read!The problem is usually a damaged graphics chip. Run the hardware test that came with the machine. The fact that the Apple menu is showing issues, says it is not with the image in question, nor with the screen image you grabbed. The screen capture depends on the graphics chip to render the image correctly. The fact is not, it captures the problem. If the hardware test is unrevealing, you may have bad RAM. Make sure the RAM is designated as iMac G5 compatible RAM, and not just any PC4200 RAM. Be careful to identify your iMac G5 correctly as there may be more than one type of iMac G5 compatible RAM:

How do I create gradients (only a few steps) that follow the contour of the artwork?
I am creating a 'How to' diagram using illustrations from a previous artist. As such I need to recreate his way of creating image gradients. He seems to do it by using only a small amount of gradient steps creating quite block like gradients. Like this: How would I go about getting my smooth gradients like this? At the moment I am creating a smooth gradient filled object, expanding it then specifying the steps in the dialogue box that then appears. But this does not really recreate the same gradient (please see as follows):So my question is does anybody know how this artist has done this? As the gradients also seem to follow the contours of the object.

If you do wish a more precise recreation, I am afraid you need to approach it some other way.
As I see the original artwork, it has small roundings at the left end, and it has a dark outer stroke and a blend inside from bottom to top, and on top of that it has three slightly shorter parts, the two lower ones abutted. Everything narrower at the left end, except for the stroke which is uniform.
You may recreate all that in this maybe rather silly way:
1) Create a rectangle with the original width and right side height and with the same Stroke Weight and colour as the original and with a solid fill the same colour as the original at the bottom, then create a corresponding rounded rectangle with Corner Radius corresponding to the roundings to the right, and place it on top of the rectangle;
2) Select both and Pathfinder>Divide, then delete the corner paths to the right, then select the rest and Pathfinder>Unite (or whatever it is called in your version to get one path with rounded corners to the right, then scale the H value to the original left side height;
3) Copy 2) to the front, remove the fill, and lock the copy (which holds the stroke), to work on with the fill/nostroke path;
4) Create two copies of 2) and hide the topmost one;
5) With one of the top Reference Points ticked in the Transform palette, select the visible copy path 4) and reduce the H value to a small suitable value (1pt or something, depending on the size);
6) Select 3) and 5) and Object>Blend>Make (with Smooth ticked in Object>Blend>Options), this should give you the background fill;
7) Show the copy hidden in 4) and reduce its height to 1/6 (divide the H value by 6), change the fill to the right (darker) solid colour/shade, move it to a position 1/6 up, and reduce its W value by a small amount so the bottom fill shows at the ends;
8) Move a copy of 7) 1/6 up;
9) Move a copy of 8) 1/3 up;
10) Adjust the colours/shades of 8) and 9), unlock the stroked path from 3), and Group everything, now you should have the whole artwork represented, only rectangular;
Depending on version, you may then:
11a) For the newest version(s) create an Art Brush to be applied to simple paths with decreasing width towards the right, or
11b) For any version, Direct Select the Anchor Points to the far right, and Object>Transform>Scale vertically to get the original height to the right.

Top-Level Navigation Tab Image
In the top-level navigation it allows you to assign background colors for the tab colors when selected or not selected. However, you can reference an image with a unique path in this field. So when the top-level navigation renders it displays an image, gradient for example instead of a background color. I did this a while back but cannot locate this information. If someone has done this before and can provide this information that would be great.

I am in the Portal Outer Frame > Top-Level Navigation > Unselected Tabs of First Level > Background Color of Unselected Tabs

Does anyone know how to make a flash the size of the viewer's browser?
I also created the layout of the website in photoshop and exported the file into dreamwearver. I've been trying for hours to make the layout the size of the browser, I atleast have it centered, haha. Can anyone help?

cteixeira89Images are static by nature. They don't resize to browser viewport without a great deal of help from scripts.
Small background image gradients or tiles can be repeated to fill the viewport. This doesn't work well on larger images or photos.
If you want a Liquid Layout, use % width.

Applying a gradient to my object results in a tiled pattern.
Hi,
I'm not sure how to explain this, and have had trouble trying to find help because I don't really know how to describe what's happening.
I created a diagonal gradient that I applied to a rectangle with rounded corners. I added the gradient to the swatches pallet. I then created another rectangle which was immediately filled with the gradient swatch. However, the gradient created was shaped like the rectangle and did not line up with the object, thus creating a tiled pattern of the swatch inside the rectangle. Attached image "gradient.jpg" shows the first (normal) gradient and the second (tiled) gradient.
I moved the rectangle and observed that the gradient did not move with the object. It's like the gradient is stuck to the page and so the tiling pattern changes depending on where I move the rectangle.
Does anyone know what is going on and how I can get rid of it? I just want a rectangle with a regular gradient across the fill.
I'm using Illustrator CS4 win.

Fantastic - it worked just fine. The only thing I noticed is that the swatch doesn't retain the -45 degree angle. Is this something I have to specify in the gradient pallet each time I apply the swatch? Actually I just tested it and worked out that a graphic style contains both the gradient information and the angle.

Converting an image to FrameMaker native vector drawing
Is there a third-party utility that will covert an EPS graphic file to a FrameMaker native vector graphic? I would like to include a logo that appears on every page in my template but want to restrict the size of the empty template.
Any such utility would be very, very, very lossy in the sense that FrameMaker's internal image model is exceptionally restricted compared to EPS which supports the entire PostScript imaging model including text (with font defintions), vector drawing, raster images, gradients, etc.
Why not place the EPS into the template? It might actually be smaller than whatever it would (if it could) be converted to!

No Option for Printing Separations in Acrobat 11
I do not have the option to print separations from Acrobat Pro 11 on OSX Yosemite. I have installed the PPDs and they work in Illustrator and InDesign but do not work in Acrobat.
First, I am a designer at a screen printing shop and have been printing separations on a daily basis for 3 years. I understand how it works. I was working on a PC with CS 5.5. Typical workflow was to design in Illustrator, Print to PDF, open the PDF in Acrobat, save as EPS. EPS was the preferred method since I print the transparencies from Illustrator, and since Illustrator can only open one page of a PDF at a time, I saved the PDF as EPS so that ever spot color got it’s own EPS file. From there, I created a new AI file, put all EPS files on different art boards and printed.
Now I am on a Mac with Yosemite and CC 2014. I know the PDF workflow changed in Snow Leopard. You now have to print to a PostScript file and Distill, which then gives me the PDF i can open w Acrobat and save to EPS as usual.
But, I decided to really dig into Acrobat 11 since it has all the Ink Manager and Preflight features. My preferred workflow would be creation in AI, save a PDF, then use all of Acrobats features for the final check and separations. The Acrobat manual says on page 316:
“Print separations
1. Choose File > Print, and choose a printer.
2. Choose an option from the Comments and Forms menu.
3. Choose print range and page handling options.
4. Click Advanced.
5. If you created a custom printer settings file with the appropriate separation settings, choose it from the Settings menu at the top of the
Advanced Print Setup dialog box.
6. Select Output on the left, and choose an option from the Color menu:
Choose Separations if the PPD doesn’t support in-RIP separations.
12. Click PostScript Options on the left, and select settings as needed. Click OK to close the dialog box, and then click OK again to print the separations.”
The only option I have in the print dialog is my desktop printer.
I have installed the PPDs, which brings me to another problem.

Just to test it out, I placed both files in the
Library/Printers: PPDs: Contents: Resources: folder. Both are selectable from Illustrator when printing a PostScript file and both seem to work. I see no real difference between them.
I also created the PPDs file in the Presets folder of InDesign and can get separations from there as well.
But, I do not have the PostScript or any other print option from the Acrobat print dialog except for my desktop printer.
SO,
1) Is there somewhere else I need to place the PPDs for Acrobat to see it? The manual states I should be able to print the separations from the Print Dialog but its not available.
2) What is the difference between the “Acrobat Distiller” file and the “ADPDF9.PPD” files? Different size, different dates, but no obvious difference in output.
3) I sometimes print halftone jobs through AccuRip. I have gotten pretty good at manual spot color transparency gradients within illustrator, where I create complex gradients using only a spot color and a gradient with 100% transparency on one end and 0% on the other. But if I have many colors in it, I have to print separations through PotsScript and then Distill it, which flattens all transparency on the separated file. The result is a separation with a placed image gradient with a clipping mask instead of a true vector gradient. I know it has to be flattened when it’s ripped anyway, but I would like for it to ONLY get flattened as it passed through the rip on its way to the transparency, and not during the Distiller separation which then is placed back in AI for printing. Is there any way to do this on a Mac which MUST be printed to PostScript and Distilled?

You know, I read your comment, and the link, right before I went to bed. I thought I would respond then, but thought I should sleep on it. Well I slept on it, and I’m actually MORE p***ed off today than last night. I will try to keep this as professional as possible…

No S**t (so much for professional). Which is why it’s unfortunate that Apple forced this workflow on people like me.
I asked SPECIFICALLY about color SEPARATIONS in the title of the post and throughout the post. The link you provided did not provide an answer to this. It explained how terrible “refrying” a PDF can be. And what was the solution it gave?
“Use EPS and not PostScript!”
Strange. it seems that is the EXACT workflow I listed! To quote myself;
“Typical workflow was to design in Illustrator, Print to PDF, open the PDF in Acrobat, save as EPS”
That was on a PC, where Print to PDF is still an option. The design is made in Illustrator with Spot Colors, all overprints are set, because a human will be lining up the screens to print by hand, and you need about .5 - 1 point of “play” for when the screen moves so abutting colors will not have a gap of shirt color between them. I can then use all of the functionality of the AI print dialog box and print the SEPARATIONS to a PDF file, and the PDF is then split to separate EPS files for easier control.
Apple in it’s infinite wisdom has taken away this functionality. From AI, my 2 listed printers are my desktop printer and an Adobe PostScript file. Remember, I am SEPARATING the artwork to be printed on vellums that will be used to burn a screen. If I leave my desktop printer active, I can select “Setup”, where i am brought to the system print dialog box, where if I select “Adobe PDF” or “Save as PDF”, I get the message from Illustrator that “The Save as PDF option in the Printer dialog box are not supported”.
So, if I change the Printer to “Adobe Postscript file”, the “Setup” box is greyed out. If I simple “Save As” and choose PDF, I do not have the option to SEPARATE colors. Do you see the dilemma now? Apple remove the functionality I have on a PC, so my SEPARATIONS can not be saved directly to a PDF, but MUST me “printed” to a Post Script file, which then MUST be distilled to get a PDF of SEPARATIONS.
Which brings me back to the whole point of my post.

Right, which is why I’m trying to avoid it. In reality, the entire process only involves 1 extra step over the PC workflow, and the Distill process literally takes a few seconds. But, I don’t want to Distill for all the reasons listed in the link you provided. And if i follow the advice of the link, saving to EPS, I DO NOT have the option of SEPARATIONS. Which is why I’m trying to save a PDF from AI, the use all the functionality of Acrobat Pro to SEPARATE my colors. Again, the manual to Acrobat says I can print my SEPARATIONS to a file, but I only have the option to print to my desktop printer from the Acrobat Print Dialog box, even though I have DO have other options in AI and InDesign.
So, great Adobe MVP, can you answer my original questions?
1- why do I not have the option to print to a file in Acrobat Pro?
2- What is the difference between the “Acrobat Distiller” file and the “ADPDF9.PPD” files? Different size, different dates, but no obvious difference in output. (Not what I want to use, but on OSX post 10.6, I don’t really have a choice it seems)

Good for you. Have you EVER had to print separations for a t-shirt? Have you ever had to consider that a person will be physically pushing the ink through a screen, so you must consider the thickness of the ink, how that will interact with the mesh of the screen, which determines the LPI the halftones are printed at, which determines how fine your gradients should be? Because I do it everyday. So your whole “I’ll never give you a job” thing is especially infuriating, and pretty unprofessional.
So not only have you totally ignored all my questions, you insulted me and given me a link that ALSO answers none of my questions. I am also assuming, though I could be wrong, that you marked your answer as correct int he AcrobatUsers forums. Well guess what? Even with you MVP badge, you are NOT correct. At least not for what I’m asking.
If I ever need an eBook, PDF form, ePub or Multimedia PDF done, maybe I’ll use you. But, I would never hire you for color separations for t-shirt printing. -

system preferences - sharing - and see what options are turned on ( I only have file and printer because of my home network) to rule out remote logon and other things (see first link below)
then go to systems preferences - security and privacy and check the firewall and confirm the firewall is on
then go to systems preferences - users and groups - make certain only your userid exists and the guest is off

If you do not have a Anti-Virus download sophos - update the definitions and run a systems scan
to check for "stuff"
Also, check your network settings to see if your connected to your network or their network
most likely they were playing - if you left it signed on when you departed.....maybe connecting to their computer

Horizontal menu bar displays grey in IE - Please Help
These are my first websites and i have created it in DW CS4. Everything is working and i have checked in multiply browsers. The one issue i can't work out is that when viewed in IE the horizontal menu bar looks grayed out. The main menu should be transparent with a white border, while submenus have a .gif image gradient background also with a white border.
Please help, I would be very grateful and if you would ever find yourself in the Maldives i'm sure we could repay the favour.....

I'm attempting to make a website in dreamweaver and I'm
having quite the problem with my links.
I have all of my work files in one folder on my desktop
called "Portfolio"> For some reason when I try and click on the
links I have made on my website the browser looks for those sitesin
the "template" folder which is within my main folder".
I have double and tripple checker the properties to be sure
that all the links are being linked correctly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.This is a template file -

on two of my web pages, I lose the drop shadow on some objects when I have gradient or image fill selected for the page background.
One page I lose it on a QT Movie(image fill), and on another page with jpg images(gradient).
Text drop shadows on these same pages are fine.It is vinyl printing. They are using a program called Vinyl Express (version 8). It's for a vehicle wrap.
My design has transparency. There are several paths overlapping containing gradients.
The printer asked me to flatten the artwork and save it as a .eps. I was hoping to submit artwork that is 1/10 to scale. Today I made it as large as I can in illustrator and then opened the file in photoshop. But then I realized at the size I was working in the artwork couldn't be saved as a photoshop .eps. The option was to save it as a large document format. I ended up doing a tiff. There are so many options in the saving process it's got me uncertain how to it just right.
I would really like to submit a vector file so the scaling is limitless, but they are asking for it flattened. Scaling it up from 1/10 isn't working because it is pixelated. What would be the best approach for flattening? I tried the flatten transparency option, but there are so many options... I'm wondering if it would be necessary to use the preset, "Complex art." And should I do 0 on the raster/vector scale? -
Dreamweaver sc6 fluid grid layouts and nivo slider
I have the nivo slider pretty much set up on my home page, with one exception. I have a sidebar to the right of the slider and the slider bullets end up above the sidebar as opposed to below and centered below the slider. If I remove the sidebar and set the slider div to the full width of the page, then the bullets end up where the should be (centered and below the slider).
What do I have to do so that the bullets end up centered and below the slider when I have a sidebar to the right of the slider?

I inserted a print screen of the preivew in internet explorer from dreamweaver (I hope this helps), you can at least see the bullets for the slider above the sidebar. Also, the source code for the page is below. If this is not enough please let me know what else I can include that might allow someone to help me. Thanks.

<p>Montanaro Poker has evolved over the years to provide a fun, friendly atmosphere for friends/family to play in a social poker game. It is by inviatation only. It is not a public card room. The house will in no way ever take a rake. All buy-inswill be paid out to the winners of each event. All league fee's will be paid out to the Player of the Year winners.

<p>Small snacks (pretzels, popcorn, candy...) and drinks (water and soda) will generally be provided. Any player that wishes something else is welcome to bring their own, however, due to the friendly nature of the game, everyone usually shares. Also, no food or drink is allowed on the actual poker table.

<p>While we maintain a fun game, we try to maintiain a certain level of professionalism to each event. Please review the rules (located at the top of the page and in the poker room) before coming to an event or sitting down to the table. We like everyone to be on as level of a playing field as possible.

Can I create a knock out group?
I created an image of a box rectangle, fill color, gradient to white, round corners, softened edges and beveled edges. I created a 180 flip copy of the image so I now have two images color top gradient to white and bottom up color to white. They are now grouped as one.
I created a duplicate and scaled it down a duplicate and I want to use the top smaller image to knock a hole into the same bottom image like a picture frame.
Not sure how i can do that. Illustrator does not give the same edge options that InDesign does. So I cannot create it in Illustrator and place.
Ideally What I am trying to create is an image /picture frame with the inside properties the same as the outside. The properties that I described above. I would be satisfied with a straight edge inside.

RichThat is what I wanted to do. The look I wanted was rounded inside and outside picture frame. Gradient top to mid black to white and reverse that for the bottom. Hollow inside with rounded edges.
The problems seems to be creating a knockout with two groups of two images that are grouped. I can now see why that is a problem.
Group one Top image gradient black top to white. Duplicate that and flip 180 now black bottom to white up . Group them. Copy the grouped items and reduce 30% . Overlay them. Create knockout. Can't do because pathfinder options were grayed out.
You can't create a knockout of two groups of grouped items. THe effects are irrelevant.
It was a look that I was looking for I did do it in Illustrator.
