Image in front of text in Pages for ipad, help!

When using Pages how can I insert an image or shape and then put it either in front of or behind text? On the poster template there is a start that does what I'm looking for but I can work out how to do it myself! Thanks

You probably hit the Numbered List on the control panel (top). Just deselect it and it should be fine.

  • How do you highlight text in Pages for iPad? The document I want to create and highlight is a pages document

I am trying to create a document in Pages for iPad and want to highlight various bits of text but can not find a function in the inspector for this. Can anyone help, please?

    Hi stuartdj,
I'm not finding a way to highlight text as one can do with iBooks (hold and swipe for black text, background yellow for example).
One option is to actually color the text itself.
Select the text, then in Style tools, tap the Font name at the top which shows the Text Options sheet where there is a Color option.  Would changing the font color to Red, Green or Purple accomplish your goals?
If you do want black text on a colored background (highlighted) it would need to be text in a text box where you can change the fill (background) color.  Style, Style Options, Fill.  But this is not inline text and doesn't flow like just coloring the font itself.

  • Cannot wrap text in pages for iPad mini after importing from Mac

Imported docs into pages for iPad from Mac. Now text will not wrap around pics on iPad. Any suggestions?

It's not possible to copy from the help file in Pages, but are you doing it this way? Following these instructions?

  • Highlighting text in Pages for ipad?

Is it coming or did I just waste 10 bucks? I need to be able to highlight corrections on students assignments... Changing font colors is used for one type of correction, and highlighting is for another type of grammatical correction.

Since  no one seems to be jumping in with any suggestions here, I am going to make a few comments.
First, I don't have Pages for iOS, because I only have an iPod Touch, and I wouldn't want to try editing a Page document on that. So I can't test anything.
Since Pages for Mac supports highlighting as a character style, it is quite possible that Pages for iOS also supports it, but lacks a way to create it. If that is the case, you can create a document on a Mac using the highlighting styles you want, import that document to your iPad, and copy the style from that document to apply to the corrections in the student assignments.

  • In Pages for iPad, I couldn't wrap text(Chinese characters) around the image

Hi, a question about Pages for iPad. I wrote some words with Chinese characters and then inserted a image from the Camera Roll. The problem is that I couldn't wrap words around the photo. I tried again wrote some words in English and it's ok for wrapping. Why did this happen?

From the help section in the Pages app ....
Anchor or free an object to or from its surrounding text:
Select the object, tap in the toolbar, and then tap Arrange.
In the Arrange window, tap Wrap.
To make an object move with the flow of text, slide “Move with Text” to ON.To make an object remain stationary, unaffected by changes in the surrounding text flow, slide “Move with Text” to OFF.
Drag the Extra Space slider to indicate how much space you want to leave between the object and the surrounding text.
    Wrap text around an object:
Select the object and tap in the toolbar, and then tap Arrange.
In the Arrange window, tap Wrap.
Tap a wrap option to select it.Automatic optimizes text wrap for you, depending on the size and position of the object, and the width of the text column. Text wraps around an object, unless there’s very little space around the sides, in which case the text flows only above and below the object. Around lets you customize the text wrap around the sides, without automatic optimization. Above and Below allows text lines only above and below the object.
Drag the Extra Space slider to indicate how much space you want to leave between the object and the surrounding text.
This works for me. Restart your iPad if this does not work for you.

  • Text formatting in Pages for iPad 2

I am trying to apply text formattting within a document in pages.  It will not allow me to format text within a sentence to bold or italics for specific words.  The fonts in question do have these formats as options, but pressing the corresponding format button does nothing.  I can change the style to lists, etc.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Neil

It is not built in, but you can at least create and edit footnotes (I do not use end notes, but from limited testing, it appears to work with endnotes as well but converts them to footnotes). It sounds complicated when you break it down into steps as I do below, but it really is easy and intuitive.
FIRST: The underlying concept. If you have the latest Pages for iPad, then when it imports a Word document it imports footnotes (and endnotes) and you can edit them.
With that in mind, here is how you can create footnotes on the iPad.
#1 In Word create a one short sentence shell text with a short footnote, like "See the cat run /fn1" "fn/1 The cat was black").
#2 Import that shell document into your iPad, say with email "open using Pages."
#3 Save that shell document as your sour dough starter so to speak.
#4 Now create your new Pages iPad document.
#5 When you are ready to create your FIRST new footnote, copy and paste the shell sentence with shell footnote from your saved starter shell document into your new iPages document.
#5. Edit the shell sentence and footnote to a real sentence and footnote in new document.
#6 Thereafter, as you add new footnotes, either copy / paste one from new document or shell and edit. You will see they renumber properly, even when moved.

  • Image quality in Pages for iPad

    Hello!
I'm editing a new book in Pages (OS X). It has several high quality images.
I need to edit the same file in Pages for iPad. I use iCloud, so the file will be synced.
I'm worried about the QUALITY of all my images. I'm affraid Pages for iPad will DECREASE the quality of my images; then, when re-opening the file in my iMac, I could have images with less resolution. Is this true? Could it happen or the quality will be PRESERVED?
    Thank you!

    Good question!
From my rough testing of round tripping a Document and checking the size in the Share Export Page option it looks as if it maintains the Origanal Document size. Even after it has been Editted on both an iPad and Desktop. Hope this helped
There is also the option to check the Document size under the Inspector, first Tab then the last Button (Info) I think you have to Save the Document first before "Show File Info" becomes active

  • Images in Pages for iPad

    Hello all,
I want to use my iPad to write assessments of my students papers, the form I have to use for these assessments has a number of images, like the schools logo etc., after transfering the pages document to Pages for iPad the images have disappeared, no matter how I transfer them, tried iCloud, Dorpbox, Mail, iTunes etc. Anyone has a solution for this?
    Thanx
    Mark

Have you tried transferring the images separately and the placing them into the document on the iPad? I know that it might be a more cumbersome solution, but it's worth a try.
Obviously you are using file formats that the iPad can handle - correct? No .eps or .ai files? From the iPad specifications .... Viewable document types: .jpg, .tiff, .gif (images)

  • Where did the text justification feature in Pages for iPad Doc Setup go?

In previous versions of Pages for iPad ( pre iOS8) there used to be text justification option in document  setup  mode. In latest version, 2.4.2, the justification feature is missing for the headers and footer . There does not seem to be any way to center my text in the header.
    Anyone have an idea?

    Tom,
Thank you for the response, even if it confirmed my fears. I've had a go with the "Show Spelling and Grammar" and it is much less useful than the methods of 4.x
How dissapointing, as someone who regularly works with documents in multiple languages. What's worse: I cannot even open my old documents now in Pages 4.x once they have been opened by 5.0.
    A mess, indeed.

  • How do I create a new paragraph Style in Pages for iPad?

I opened an RTF document in iOS 6 Pages for iPad. How do I create new paragraph Syles?

Style is a function of the template applied to the document (and/or the limited number built in to Pages). You can mofify the text or apply one of the built in styles, but I do not beleive within Pages in iOS you can create a new style.

  • How do I add footnotes/endnotes in Pages for iPad 2?

Hi everyone. Like many people I was super excited to be able to use my iPad 2 as a word processor with the Pages app. I have a macbook black from 2007 and it is extremely heavy to carry around everyone. I'm a graduate student so mobility for me is key.  Anyway, so I am writing an academic paper write now in Pages for iOS but I can't figure out how to add footnotes/endnotes to cite my sources. I can't find anything online relating to this topic. Can you tell me how to do this? I certainly hope Pages has this capability because without something so fundamental, how can it be the least bit useful? Thanks so much!

  • Soft returns in Pages for iPad

I would really like to create a space between numbered items in Pages but I can't figure out how to do it.  Does anyone know how to create a soft return in Pages for iPad?
I have seen responses for the desktop application but not the iPad application.

    Pages 1.7.1, IOS 5.1.1
You start a bullet item and then press both ⇧ and return keypad keys to force a newline. This turns off the bullet style. Press return. Use the paintbrush toolbar icon to reselect the Bullet paragraph style again. This approach shows the inelegant possibility.
The best approach would be at the end of your bullet text, change your line spacing from 1.0 to 1.25 from within the paintbrush > Layout tab. A return continues your bullet style. If your normal body text has been 1.0 line spacing, you can switch back to that after your list.

On regular pages, I can select multiple objects (text boxes, etc) by holding shift then clicking on it. Is there a way to do that in Pages for IPAD?

With one finger select an object and hold with another finger select the other objects one by one.

  • Meter squared symbol in pages for iPad

    Hey Guys,
Does anyone know how to make the meter squared symbol in Pages for iPad? I cant find away to push the 2 up.
    Thanks
    Tom

Thanks. In a document in Pages on my iPad, if I press the + symbol, I am given various insert options like tables, graphic boxes and 'animatable' lines, which can be adjusted. Top left says 'text' which is obviously a text box. However my friend has an arrow option next to the word 'text' which allows him to import a thin arrow which can be rotated to point in any direction in his document (useful for pointing one area of text to another.
I don't have this option; just the 'fixed' block arrows which appear below as options. My version of Pages is the latest and my iPad is very new.
    Thanks.

  • Pages for iPad: change a Paragraph Style ?

    Hello all,
there is something that is driving me crazy...
using Pages for iPad is it possible to change the default settings of a Paragraph Style ?
I am not talking about importing a document with a custom set of styles but simply:
    - I open my document in Pages for iPad
    - I select a line of text and apply the "Header 1" style to it
    - I am not happy - for example - with the font size of the Header 1 style and I want to make all my Header 1 paragraphs change their font size
    - In the desktop version you would simply change/update the style you need, but on the iPad I cant find a way to change those values
(BTW, I seem to remember that I once managed to do this...)
    Thanks,

You seem to be able to copy and paste styles, but nowhere that I can find does it let you update the defined styles.
There is the manual which does not refer to any suitable method, and also some eBooks on the subject but I have scanned those and can find no reference to redefining styles either.
The more I play with Pages for iPad the more of a toy it seems. Sort of amazing that it does what it does on a mobile tablet, but when you get right down to it, not very useful.
