Image lags/choppy when scrolling to zoom

Illustrator CS 5.5 - Whenever I scroll to zoom the image resizes with considerable lag and choppyness.  The file is only 1.2 mb and vector.  I am able to move within the window with the arrow keys up and down ok but zooming is painful.  I spend too much time adjusting both ways until I get it just right.  The same image in Photoshop CS 5.5 resizes very smoothly.  I have tried OpenGL and profiles but to no avail.  Does anyone have some words of wisdom to help?  There is no way that the hardware is slow, the video drivers are the latest, Win 7 all updates, and CS5.5 is up to date as well.  Also, it works just fine on another system that is about a basic desktop using CS 4.  Smooth zooming.
System is maxed out - 24 GB RAM, Quad Xeon 3.7 processors, 2 TB 7200rpm hard drive, Nvidia Quadro 5000 2.5GB
Thanks for any advice.

I can't imagine it would be your system seems like a pretty forceful box.
Have you tried things like trashing the settings folder or resting the preferences?
I am on a Mac pro original way behind what you hav but all functions quickly and here is whaT a 6 mb file looks like zoomed in at 400%
I thin pretty sharp nd it zooms rapidly. Open GL does noT work in Illustrator as  I know. So you have to click or drag a Marquis over an area.
But I think it should be working pretty snappy on you unit.

    Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
    Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
    Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
    Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
    Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
    In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
    Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Safari stalls when scrolling or zoom

    My iPhone 6 using iOS 8.1 has a problem with Safari.  When scrolling up or down the page freezes for a while, or when zooming again it freezes for a time.  If you keep the page moving up & down its fine.  Took phone back to Apple store where they found Cameralert & Waze had crashed a few times & reinstalled the operating system.  This improved it for a few days.
    Returned the next week & phone was replaced but still have same problem.  Google Chrome works so much better & I would use it more but when clicking on a link Safari always opens.

    What "Network Optimizer" did you try?
    Please look over this list, and go through them all, OK?
    Then tell us how you're doing . . .
    1. Empty your cache & History settings via the Safari menu
    Any improvement?
    2. Quit Safati.Trash your Icons Folder:
    HD>Users>Home>YourName>Library>Safari -->Icons
    Restart Safari and a new folder will be automatically regenerated.
    (This folder saves favicons of all the sites you visit. Needs cleaning periodically -- or you can change that file's preferences to "Read Only"
    rather than "Read & Write." This will keep it from growing in size.)
    Restart Safari. Is it better?
    3. Launch Font Book and check all fonts for duplicates. A duplicated font will have a bullet beside the font family and you can resolve duplicates by selecting the font and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Resolve Duplicates.
    Do this for each font with a bullet next to it. Restart Safari & Test.
    If you're still having problems:
    4. Shut down your computer . . . unplug the computer, modem, and router, if you have one. Let everything sit for 2-3 minutes. Plug everything back in, start up your modem & router. After the lights settle in, then restart your computer.
    5. Do you have internet apps SpeedDownload, iGetter, PithHelmet, Acid Search, Safari Enhancer ? Or Norton or Virex? Sometimes non-apple internet apps need updating or uninstalling. If you do, let us know which ones and which version, please.
    6. Check your Syster Preferences>Network>Automatic>Built-in Ethernet Settings. Have you chosen "Using DHCP?" And under the Tab "Proxies" is anything checked off? If so, uncheck all.
    Hope this helps

  • Magic Mouse sometimes choppy when scrolling on new iMac

    I'm posting this here rather than the BT forum because my intuition tells me that this is iMac/Safari/Snow Leopard related as it sometimes happens sometimes not. When scrolling works optimally (75 %+ of the time) I love the mouses simple aesthetic and fluidity. I'm also intuiting that as the various iMac/MM complaints are resolved (10.6.2?) the 75% will turn into 99 %

    HI Dennis,
    Try deleting this file.
    com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences.
    Move that file to the Trash... see if that makes a difference.
    Also, sometimes deleting the mouse from the System Preferrences/Bluetooth devices window then re-"pairing" the mouse helps.

  • Other event images flash up when scrolling through an event

    When I am scrolling down though photos in an event the row of images below are not images from that event! For a split second other photos flash up from another event. The most confusing part is when I have clicked on a specific photo to enlarge it the mini scroll bar of images at the bottom of the enlarged photo are those 'other' event photos.
    For example: I was looking at family photos of Stonehenge, as I scroll down to see more Stonehenge in a split second photos of Paris flash up. When I click on my son at Stonehenge the images on the bottom of the screen are all of Paris, not Stonehenge.
    Is my iphoto corrupt? Do I have too many photos in my iphot library and it is getting "confused" trying to process all those images? or what?
    Thank you

    You need to launch iPhoto with the Option+Command keys held down and rebuild the library's thumbnails.  It may take several runs.

  • Fullscreen Gallery image gets erased when scrolling on Chrome

    I'm working on a website where we have an abstract video background playing behind a transparent logo, which when clicked scrolls the page down to the main content. The logo is layed over the video background as a single image in the Fullscreen Gallery widget, so that it resizes according to the browser size. On Safari and Firefox, everything works great (although a little slowly, I'm going to compress my images before the site is announced). But on Chrome, the scrolling window erases the fullscreen image from the bottom up, leaving only the background image behind it, and it looks terrible. I've run it without the video backround, and without the scroll effects on the item beneath the video, and I've pinned the gallery in place, but nothing seems to work. My site is live, though unfinished, at adptpro.com if you'd like to see what I'm talking about.
    Any help? Or is there a more robust way to create the effect I'm going for?
    Thanks!

    Any guesses on what I need to do?
    I would not want to hazard a guess until I can check the instantaneous data rate at the time of the problem. Got the URL and a time where the file stops?

  • Images become choppy when I resize to a smaller size

    Using Fireworks CC, when I resize images to make them smaller, the image is pixellated and choppy.  Any solution for this?

    Herbert2001, thank you for your reply.  I didn't realize Adobe stopped supporting Fireworks.  It's really weird, I've been down-scaling .jpg and .png images for years w/o problem - large images 2000 pixels down to 300 pixels and smaller and it worked beautifully.  Here is what I am getting now:
    The lines become choppy.  If it's a more complicated image, such as a house with siding, the lines become even choppier.
    Any ideas?

  • Why is my new macbook pro retina kinda choppy when scrolling safari/etc.?

    why is it that the new macbook pro retina I bought doesn't seem to be scrolling as smoothly as you would think?  Scrolling in safari seems just a bit laggy.  Is this a software issue?  It does this both with the hd400 and 650m.  Hopefully this is a software issue and not the GPU strugging to drive the massive resolution of this display.  I have the 2.6ghz/ mid level config.

    Which resolution are you on?
    I notice when scaled to say 1920x1200, the whole system becomes slightly more laggy, not just Safari. But I think that's because there's also a screen smoothing process just before the images gets shown onscreen otherwise everything would be chunky and jagged.
    I'm on unscaled 2880x1440 retina mode and Safari is super smooth scrolling... not sure whats going on with your computer.
    Do you have any junk apps or processes running in the background by any chance?
    My MBPR is the baseline model with only 8GB ram, OS X 10.8.1 and Safari 6.0 8536.25.

  • Keep the zoom level the same when scrolling through photos

    To decide which is the best photo that i’ve got, i usually compares the details by zooming and switching through photos back and forth, but keep the zoom level the same..
    The problem is, in iPhoto 11 i can’t do this..
    Because everytime i scroll to another photo, it always zoomed out by itself..
    Does anybody know how to retain the zoom level when scrolling through images?

    How hare you zooming? When I double click on a photo to bring up its full sized image and use the keyboards arrow keys to scroll thu the size stays the same?  Is that how you're doing it?
    Have you tried using the Full Screen mode?

  • Image loses ColorMatrixFilter when zoomed above 2880 pixels

    I have a image viewer component that allows the user to zoom
    and scroll an image. The user is allowed to invert the image. The
    problem I have is that when the user zooms the image so that the
    height is above 2880 the image loses its inverted filter and
    reverts to viewing the original image. The following is from the
    DisplayObect.cacheAsBitmap flex doc.
    The cacheAsBitmap property is automatically set to true
    whenever you apply a filter to a display object (when its filter
    array is not empty), and if a display object has a filter applied
    to it, cacheAsBitmap is reported as true for that display object,
    even if you set the property to false. If you clear all filters for
    a display object, the cacheAsBitmap setting changes to
    what it was last set to.
    A display object does not use a bitmap even if the
    cacheAsBitmap property is set to true and instead renders from
    vector data in the following cases:
    The bitmap is too large: greater than 2880 pixels in either
    direction.
    The bitmap fails to allocate (out of memory error).
    My relevant section of code for applying the inverted state
    to the
    image follows:
    public function invertImage():void
    var matrix:Array = new Array();
    matrix = matrix.concat([-1, 0, 0, 0, 255]);
    matrix = matrix.concat([ 0, -1, 0, 0, 255]);
    matrix = matrix.concat([ 0, 0, -1, 0, 255]);
    matrix = matrix.concat([ 0, 0, 0, 1, 0]);
    var filter:ColorMatrixFilter = new
    ColorMatrixFilter(matrix);
    var filters:Array = new Array();
    filters.push(filter);
    image.filters = filters;
    Any suggestions on how I can workaround the 2880 limitation?

    Louis, it sounds like you have a few problems to overcome here.
    First, Facebook seems to be confused about what size of a picture it wants.
    Second, your image is taller than wde (220 x 426), and Facebook wasts the cover image to be wider than tall (851? x 315?).  You will have to crop something to make that happen.
    How do I zoom out on the image and save it ??
    Zooming is irrelevant to what your picture looks like or the size of the picture.  Think of a magnifying glass on top of that huge unabridged dictionary in the library.  You don't change anything about the dictionary by looking at it through a magnifying glass.  You just change how you perceive it.
    You need to resample the image.  In your case, you need to put more pixels into the photo than currently exist.  You might think about creating a different picture that's the right size, or at least has more pixels.  By resmpling to incldue more pixels, your photos will becoem "pixelated".

  • Firefox 37 Beta on Windows 8.1 has lag and stuttering when scrolling

    I just recently got a new laptop, and since the minute I've installed firefox on it there has been lag when scrolling webpages. It seems to start off not too badly, with there being some stuttering when I first open firefox, however it seems like the longer I'm browsing the worse it gets, to the point where sometimes I'll start scrolling and then a second later firefox will just jump to the bottom of the page. Internet Explorer and Chrome both have perfectly smooth scrolling.
    I've tried numerous things to fix it already, this is some of the stuff I can remember trying:
    -Turning off hardware acceleration and smooth scrolling
    -Starting in safe mode
    -Complete reinstall with new profile
    -Updating graphics card and intel drivers
    Specs of the new laptop:
    Core i7
    GTX 970M
    16Gb RAM

    When I was trying different versions of Firefox to see if they all had the scrolling problem, I made sure to try 36, 38, and even 31.5 ESL portable. They all have the scrolling problem when my laptop is unplugged. However, when I tried Tor just to see what would happen - bingo! Perfectly smooth scrolling once more. This is especially weird as Tor uses 31.5.3 ESL as a base...
    This made me think that it could potentially be a plugin, as Tor doesn't have any plugins installed other than Flash. However, after first disabling, then manually removing, every plugin that was listed in about:plugins the problem continues to persist.
    Any idea why Tor would work flawlessly while every other version of firefox suffers the scrolling issue? I couldn't seem to remove the OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, plugin. Is it possible to remove it in order to see if it is causing the problem?

  • Images dissapearing when scrolling TileList.

    Hello,
    In the AIR application I am working on, I need to load a large number of images to a TileList on the clients computer. Since they can't be embedded, they were taking a long time to load since each image could be 3-4mb+. In an attempt to reduce the load time (initially and when reloading when scrolling) when the user selected a directory, I would load each image using a Loader and store a scaled down Bitmap of it in an Array. I bound the source property of the Image in the ItemRenderer to the Bitmap in the Array.
    This works really well and the images load faster however.. When I scroll and an image goes off the screen and I scroll back to it the tile is blank. Checking the debugger I see that as soon as the tile goes off the screen the BitmapData property of the Bitmap in the array becomes null.
    Any ideas on what might be causing this? I can post the code if it would help.
    I'm not limited to loading the images this way. I had just seen something similar and was trying to adapt it. If anyone has any other methods or controls that may work better please share!
    Thank you in advance for any help.

    I have the same problem.

  • Scrollview only releasing image data when scrolled out of bounds

    Hi all,
    I cannot understand why my memory isn't released.
    On my iPhone program I have a tableview with an image in each cell. When the images are loaded the I can see a thread in Instruments with ObjectAlloc, that calls CALayerPrepareCommit about 10 times -> CGContextDrawImage->some more stuff->ripc_AcquireImage->more stuff ->imgdatalock. I assume this is where the OS actually draws the Image on the screen. But the memory is never released! Only when I scroll the tableview out of bound is the memory released. Visually the tableview is the same and the images are still there after the scrolling. This is a lot of memory and I need to know why it isn't released.
    I set the image in the tableview here:
    - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
    UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
    if (cell == nil) {
    cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease];
    cell.accessoryType = self.showDisclosureIndicators ? UITableViewCellAccessoryDisclosureIndicator : UITableViewCellAccessoryNone;
    //Clear previous content
    NSArray *subviews = cell.contentView.subviews;
    for (UIView *subview in subviews)
    [subview removeFromSuperview];
    //Set Image
    [cell.contentView addSubview:[thumbnails objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]];
    return cell;
    thumbnails is an array of views:
    while (thumbnailsRemaining && getThumbnails) {
    NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init];
    UIView *containerView = [thumbnails objectAtIndex:nextThumbnail];
    UIImageView *imageView = [[containerView subviews] objectAtIndex:0];
    NSInvocationOperation* imageOp = [[NSInvocationOperation alloc] initWithTarget:self selector:@selector(getImageForImageView:) object:imageView];
    [imageQueue addOperation:imageOp];
    [imageOp release];
    [imageQueue waitUntilAllOperationsAreFinished];
    nextThumbnail++;
    [pool drain];
    and each image is loaded here:
    - (void) getImageForImageView:(UIImageView *)imageView {
    NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init];
    UIImage *image = [UIImage imageWithData:imageData];
    [imageView setImage:image];
    thumbnailsRemaining--;
    [pool drain];
    I also have a scrollview with images and behaving exactly in the same way when scrolling out of bounds.
    I am really lost, so any help is appreciated.

    When a cell is scrolled out of the visible area, UITableView normally adds it to the reusable cell queue, so that's why you aren't seeing that memory released. I think the queued cells might get released under low memory conditions. You might want to try Hardware->Simulate Memory Warning on the Simulator.
    In any case, see if this link is helpful: [http://idevkit.com/forums/tutorials-code-samples-sdk/2-dynamic-content-loading -uitableview.html].
