Image layer edge snapping failure

Hi
ok here is the story
i open an image to photoshop cs5 and it opens as a background layer, right?
now i drag n drop from windows exporer the same image over the cs5 on top opening as a new layer.
It shows up an X over the image where you can reposition the second image (layer) over the first.
i don't want to reposition, its the same image, i want the pixels of the second layer to match EXACTLY the first layer.
i press the TICK button or ENTER where the new layer gets the images name
BUT when i zoom in 1600% or 3200% and move to the edge i see the edges of the new layer not positioned exactly over the 1st layer.
it positions the new layer 1 or 2 pixels to the right and some times 1 or 2 pixels to the bottom.
it doesn't snap the edge.
i know i can fix it afterwards by align the layers from the layer -> align menu
but its annoying, even creating an action..
is there a setting in the prefrences which i'm missing?
is it a bug? if so, can this be fixed in CS6?

Bo, the same problem can occur if you bring in several different images that are registered to one another down to the pixel. I had this happen once when I was doing a series of screen grabs of a window and was preparing to animate them via a GIF. The problem is that the placed image is off to the bottom-right by one pixel. Note the offset showing in this screen grab, after placing an identically registered image over a background, then hiding the background.
Another way to accomplish getting a bunch of images in separate layers is File - Scripts - Load Files into Stack.

in WDS snap-in, in properties on server name, on client tab, we can define an answer file for unattended windows installation on WDS clients.
my question is, maybe we have added multiple images in WDS snap-in (win xp image, win 7 , win 2008,...)
now this one answer file applies to all of them ?
so how to specify different answer file for different install images in WDS snap-in?

Under the "Client" tab of WDS, you should only use an answer-file with settings relevant for the installation. This would be credentials for the WDS deployment share, international settings used during the setup and possibly also destination drive
details (if you want the installation to take care of partitioning the disk etc). The settings relevant for unattend-files used under "Client" would only be of those in phase 1 (WinPE).
However, if you would like to have specific unattend file for every installation, e.g. Win7, Server 2008, Win 8 etc, you can browse to the image under "Install Images" under the image Groups. There you can select properties for every image and
have a personal unattend-file.

You can't convert an image into a text layer. What you can do is clip an image to a text layer so that just the image layer shows up where there is text. Create a text layer, then above it put your image layer. Hold down the alt/opt key and click between the two layers to clip them.

After adjusting options in Define Edge, don't forget to click "Decontaminate Colors" in the Output section of the Define Edge dialog.
I would also export to a New Document from the Output section.
Then you can open the file you want to drag your refined edge into.
With both docs open, go to: Image menu - Adjustments - Match Color.
You can select the image you want to match from the Source pulldown.
You will need to try all the different options, but you can make the image match much better colorwise before you drag your extracted image into your destination document.

Is there a known bug when animating images with edge and dps?

Hi, I've seen some oddities when using edge to create html5 elements for Indesign. Essentially I have spent hours trying to get an image to scroll from left to right. Works fine in a browser and worked fine in dps and iPad yesterday. Using the same setup: the stage in edge is 768x1024 I then animate a large image in the x axis 0 to -500 over 6 secs, I then apply a ease in and out. I then save the HTML, and publish for dps. Within dps I goto file > place and select the published file that edge generates for dps. I then update and preview either in desktop or iPad - the file loads but the animation does not play.
Weirdly if I follow the exact same steps but add some other bits of animation ie drawing a square and moving it, the animation plays. If I open an existing file I.e your inbuilt tutorial files, delete the content and redo the image animation it works, it's only in a new project that it doesn't preview or play in iPad?
Another issue I have is when it does load the animation doesn't load in that well and shows most of the bottom and then after a .5sec the rest of it loads. so it's a vbit scrappy - any suggestions?

To give you a bit more info, we used my bosses computer and he was able to recreate the same issue with the animation not loading. however if we change the process by using the rectangular frame tool and using the web content folio overlay it works, and inserting the HTMLResources.zip. However we noticed that the animation did not run smoothly, very jerky like the ipad was struggling. I've now corrected this, by changing the properties of the image within edge from div to img. This seem to have worked nicely.
So there are some weird things going on, more so around the publishing function within edge.

HOW DO I Make White Background of an Image layer transparent?

i used photoshop to open a photo with a person and background and delete the background so that now it's white with the person still fully intact.
I open the file in and lay this image layer on top of another video layer track in fcut express and hoped that the background would be gone so it would look like my person is in the movie. I saved the pic as JPEG even tried it with GIF and then selected the SCREEN option or the subract or the alpha and nothing makes it transparent .how?

yes, use psd (tiff or png) format. jpg will not work.
also, make sure you delete the "background" layer in photoshop. the picture should appear then sitting on a checkerboard indicating transparency. the background layer in photoshop by itself is not transparent by default.

Need to collect image layer properties

I need to collect the bottom anchor position of an image layer (y value) on a psd document, so I can resize the main psd bottom center anchor (y) size to match this.

Elements 9 - how to add the grid over "free transform" to twist an image/layer

Im sure I asked this before, but I cant for the life of me find the post!! I think I must have dreamed it!! (shame I didnt dream the answer lol)
OK so Im now on photoshop elements 9, Is there a way to properly bend and transform a layer? I USED to for to free transform (control
+T) then click on a grid at the top of the screen which ment I could bend any part of the picture...

Im trying to bend a rainbow.. at the moment Ive used the rectangle tool and created a rectangle rainbow, but Id like to bend it into shape, maybe even distort it a little to look like this...

Well, I think the best way to create a rainbow would be to use a vector program, but there's a way to use PSE9 to get a rainbow effect that might be useful.
Create a new image.
Use the fill tool with a spectrum fill (I used the "Medium" spectrum):
Create a small, tight circular fill:
Zoom in to give yourself room to work on it.
Make a circular selection around the outer edge of the spectrum, invert the selection and delete it:
Make a small circular selection in the center, delete that; make a rectangular selection covering the bottom half and delete that:
Select the spectrum and use Layer...New...Layer via Copy to get the spectrum on its own layer with a transparent background. Then squish the spectrum:
Rotate the spectrum 90 deg. right and move it to the left of the image area:
Use Filter...Distort...Shear with these settings to pull the spectrum into an arc:
Rotate the spectrum back left, and transform it into something useable:
The layers look like this:
It ain't perfect, but might be good enough.

I placed an image and scaled it in Edge. I notice the image is exported at its original size. Can I tell Edge to downsample a bitmap image?

Unfortunately, we can't do that within Animate yet. Fundamentally, Animate is software for movement, but we are working (long term) on our integration with our own image software and services. I'd suggest that you edit the image externally and bring it in.

Can't adjust color in placed image layer?

I used File > Place to bring in some images, which are now layers. I want to adjust the colors of the layers but in Image > Adjustments everything is grayed out (except Shadows and HDR). The original layer allows full adjustments. The images I placed are .psd files. I tried flattening one of the images but that didn't fix the problem. If I open the original files I can make full adjustments. What should I do?

Those layers are smart objects, which can't be edited directly. Three options:
1. Rasterize the layer to turn it into a normal layer (Layer > Smart Object).
2. Use adjustment layers clipped to the layer you want to adjust.
3. Open the smart object by double-clicking the layer thumbnail, do your edits and resave it.

Can an Image Layer be opened in Photoshop?

There are instances where images in a PDF need to be color corrected.
Once all images are placed a layer can the layer be opened in PS for corrections?
There are times when there are 40-50+ images in a PDF. Opening each individually is not possible.

PDF "layers" are absolutely not the same as layers in Creative Suite applications. They are merely lists of things on a page marked as "optional" - hence their correct name "optional content groups" or OCGs. Opening a PDF in Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. will not respect OCGs.

Image Capture rotation 'snaps' to vertical/horizontal too agressively

Is there a way to tell Image Capture not to "snap" my rotation to 0 so agressively? If I slightly mis-align something I am scanning and need to rotate it by less than 1 degree to straighten it, I can't do that by dragging the rotation handle, because it will automatically "snap" to 0. Instead I have to laboriously type different values into the text box to get the right rotation.
Also, it would be really helpful if you could drag the rotation handle out so you can use a larger mouse movement to indicate a finer rotation.

Well, I'm not looking for anything fancy, just to be able to rotate more freely. I was hoping that maybe holding Option- or Shift- while rotating would allow you to rotate without the 'snap' effect, or to rotate more finely. It's kind of crazy, if I make sure to place items really sloppily on my scanner, I can more easily adjust the rotation than if I try to be somewhat accurate.
Clearly, the program has to go to some effort to create this 'snap' effect; it should allow it to be turned off.

How do I scale the image layer and the alpha at the same time?

Alpha channels are not connected to layers in any way - they are just extra channels independent of the color content of the image (well, unless you're using a spot color overlay).
Now, if you meant Transparency/Opacity instead of an alpha channel - that is part of the layer and scales automatically.

MS Small Basic Images - layer priority oder command help plz?
