Image Map Hot Spot
I am using DW8 I have an image map. If I use the square/rect
tool or the
circle tool I can get a hot spot to show. If I try to draw a
polygon shape,
I do not get the green overlay that works with the other
tools.
What am I doing wrong or is this a bug?
Kim
Yes. Every time, on every image (placeholder).

Using Roll Over Images for Hots Spots in DW CS 5
Ok I had this sort of working .. but
what i am trying to do is have pictures pop up when the mouse rollovers a hot spot. I do this with two layers and using the behavior window
The full project is at http://www.kasdivi.com/pages/map.html... ( thought that might be better then posting code) The issue is in the left hand top of the map wjere you see malmok (Col H Row 2)or Boka Bartol (also Col H Row )
you have to move down the page before the image will show
I though there might be something in that area mapping as if you leave map in topmost position and mouse over Boka Onima (Column M row 5) the image pops up fine
I tried to restart with a simpler test www.kasdivi.com/testmap.html
the supposedly live hot spots are at Malmok (H2 ) and Boka Onima (M5) but it this test nothing works
I think I am doing something baically wrong
any guidance will be appreciated
JasomYou have some code errors that could be causing issues.
Things like missing quote marks around the alt attribute on line 91, your links near that line are also malformed to both your images and webpages.
Run your page through the validator here and repair your errors:

If it's still not funtioning correctly after you have taken care of the problems, post back and we can take a closer look... -

Edited by: kiran.g on May 22, 2009 1:42 PMHi,
I don't think it is possible to make it as a hotspot. But you have a event in the class
cl_gui_picture which is 'picture_click' by using this event you can overcome the issue you have
that is by clicking on the picture trigger this event and then call another screen.
Thanks&Regards

MouseOver effect needed ofr map hot spots
Hi friends!
I need help with Adobe flash AS3/ I have a map that I want to make in Flash with mouseover effect. Example map is here http://www.elabram.com/index.php?r=client/index, but it is made with CSS.
What I need?
1) When mouse is over the location pin it must show infobox. Yes similar what Google Places does. but with mouse over effect, not on Click.
I was using Adobe Flash 5.0's default code snippets and got stuck after this code bolow... I'm new to Flash, sorry but learn very fast/
/* Mouse Over Event
Mousing over the symbol instance executes a function in which you can add your own custom code.
Instructions:
1. Add your custom code on a new line after the line that says "// Start your custom code" below.
The code will execute when the symbol instance is moused over.
movieClip_2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, fl_MouseOverHandler_6);
function fl_MouseOverHandler_6(event:MouseEvent):void
// Start your custom code
// This example code displays the words "Moused over" in the Output panel.
trace("Moused over");
// End your custom code
Thanks in advance
AldiBTW,
I just need codes that go here in {} where it says //Start your custom code
function fl_MouseOverHandler_6(event:MouseEvent):void
// Start your custom code
// This example code displays the words "Moused over" in the Output panel.
trace("Moused over");
// End your custom code

Hi,
When I generate a SSL Print out of topics that use Drop-down
Hot Spots with images in them, the images print out. I do not want
them to print out. I have tried the Advanced Options and unchecked
"Include drop-down text" and they still print.
If there isn't a easy way to stop them from printing, is
there a way to stop the text from getting messed up by wraping to
the right of the image, it would be better to have it start at the
bottom.You could try adding a conditional build tag against them and
excluding this from your printed output single source layout. I
haven't tried this so can't say it would work for definite but it's
worth a go. -
Multiple "hot spots," one rollover image
Im building an online artist's portfolio website and trying
to lay out a dozen thumbnail images that when rolled over trigger a
corresponding image to appear to the left of the thumbnails. All
hot spots trigger the same image to change. Any advice on how to
achieve this?I went through the steps KenRogers2 suggested, and when I
first click on "+" under the behaviors tab I get error message #
61878. After clicking ok the behaviors tab opens. After going
through the steps and previewing in Safari (Im running OSX 10.4.8)
all I get is the hot link hand over the thumbnail, but no rollover
image replaces the default. Any ideas?
I've also recently downloaded an update for dreamweaver and
have been getting a jave error when I try to open any file, but
everything seems normal after I hit ok. Not sure that has anything
to do with the other error, just thought I'd throw it out
there.. -
This is probably a noob question but when I inset hot spots
into an image it pushes the image that is placed directly next to
it down to the next line. I'm not sure why it is doing this and is
there anyway to have hot spots and not bump the image down below
the one that is being editied? ThanksShow us your page, please.

How to create a hot spot for a browser filled image?
I have a background image created in Photoshop in the browser fill, scale to fill.
This is my landing page and would like to create a hot spot or "invisible" rectangle to link to another page in my site when clicked.
I have this done and working, however, my problem is that when my browser size is enlarged or reduced, the spot where I want the hot spot to be changes in size and location.
I want to create a hot spot that will keep its form around my logo no matter the screen size.
I have tried this with a no fill box and white stroke to see how it reacts with each fill property but cannot figure out how to create a box to be in a fixed position that will always match up
with the browser fill image location and size.
Thanks for your help.Hi
Have you tried to pin the box on page so that it should be in fixed position ?
Also if want the box to be on some specific position with page scroll, then you can try applying scroll effects which would scroll the box on page but within defined positions.
Thanks,
Sanjit -
It won't let me
Right. You can't make an image map out of a background. You must insert the image directly into the page (HTML markup). Then apply hotspot tools to the image.

How do I use hot spots in the most advanced style?
My first attempt at Dreamweaver web design.http://www.deer-harbor-stewardship-project.org . I will be resampling my images and doing a ton of other appropriate modifications but here are some initial questions. How do I use this "plug in" http://mattstow.com/experiment/responsive-image-maps/rwd-image-maps.html#blossom feature for my fluid grid responsive image map. How can I make my hot spots turn up little boxes with a photo, an illustration, or informatory text? How do I get ride of the spaces between divs? Sorry if I have asked too many questions. I better read the forum user rules if you have them. thanks for reading this. endurobob

Anyhow, it makes no sense to put image tags within container tags meant to convey semantic meaning to their contents since an image has no semantic meaning. So try changing this -
<div id="header">
<h1><img src="_images/title_scan.jpg" alt="newtitle"></h1>
to this -
<div id="header">
<img src="_images/title_scan.jpg" alt="newtitle">
I completely agree with this. However, if having an image as a heading was important (if you styled it in a way you can not with CSS) you could always code the image into the heading through CSS.
Something like:
<h1 class="heading">This is a heading</h1>
h1.heading {
margin:0;
width:??;
height:??;
background: #000 url(ImageURLHere) no-repeat;
text-indent:-9999px; /* This will move the text of the heading off-screen */
The 0 margin on the style should clear up the gap as well. -
Ho do you remove Border on Image Map Links in Safari
Hi,
I am having a problem with Safari 5.1 with an image map. I designed an Image Map for my Website in Fireworks with three hotspots.
When you click on the hotspot in Safari to link to the page a border appears around the hotspot. It doesn't happen in any other browser.
Anyone have an idea how to get around this?
Web address is: http://79.170.44.76/agrisearch-site.org/Well I found out! Here yer go! Paste the code in bold in the same area as the example and any Dreamweaver CS5.5 Hot Spots you create, this will get rid of the Blue Border when the links are clicked on in Safari. You would think either Apple or Adobe would sort this? Make life alot easier?

Image Map in a div tag causing problems in webpage
I have an image map in a div tag (I'm using Dreamweaver so
I've place hot spots on a gif within a div tag). When I preview in
a browser the hot spots are creating an empty space between the
image and the div tag below it, which there shouldn't be. Prior to
this I had done the same thing but using layers instead of div tags
and it was fine... there was no unwanted space. What am I doing
wrong?Hi lauren,
I tried to replicate the above mentioned issue, but did not get the <div> around the image in Webhelp output. Would it be possible for you to provide more information on this:
At what point does the <div> start appearing around the image, as soon as the CBT expression is applied?
If yes, what is the expression?
What happens when expression is set to None again and individual CBT is under application
Is there a spacing or the CBT text just follows the inline image?
Please send us a sample file for the same, if possible. Thanks!

Hello,
I have a problem that seems like its just one small detail
that I am missing but I cannot figure it out for the life of me.
I have made a local version of the page I am editing. I added
hot spots with links to word documents that are on our sites FTP
server, and the address are correct. When I hit preview in firefox
everything works flawless. Then I click put, and go to check it on
the live site, and now it doesn't work. I can't even detect the hot
spot that I created while on the live site.
Thanks in advance.
- Kevin> but I am picking most of it up fast
Put it down, quickly, before you hurt yourself (as we can see
you are about
to do from your linked page - 81K for a jpg image of an
ordinary list?).
You only have a single image map on the page, and it
corresponds to the
image map for the links in the masthead.
Go here -
http://www.w3schools.com - and
get some HTML and CSS under your
belt. Then you can come back to DW. It will expect you to
bring that
knowledge to the table.

My student has created an image in FW and has it in his page in DW. He is trying to draw hot spots on the individual spots but can not. I see the hot spots in the property box but it will not allow him to draw a rectangle around the area. The area will only show blue when you select the chosen drawing tool and go to the image. Here is a screen shot. I would love some direction to help my student be able to create a hot spots. He works on a Mac and has the latest update to CC.
Hello levanouski,
my way is (all comands translated from my German DW):
1. Insert an image
2. Click into the image
3. Menu for the hotspot tools opens, see screenshot:
4. Click into the image > Give an "alt" name or description for your image, if you want.
5. Use the wished figure/form.
6. And in your code you will see something like:
<p><img src="../images/yourGrafik.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" usemap="#Map"/>
<map name="Map">
<area shape="poly" coords="125,123,115,86,151,34,209,76,237,135,219,179,153,185,91,176,5 6,140" href="#" alt="It's a test!">
</map>
</p>
But now let's talk about this (I quote from a earlier thread of Sudarshan Thiagarajan): "I must let you know that image maps are outdated and there are far more easier/ higher quality ways of achieving what you're after. Check out jQuery Vector Maps - Resizable Scalable Vector Graphic (SVG) Maps for Modern Browsers - pure vector maps that work on most modern browsers that come pre-defined with most countries. USA is out of the box usage. Another similar tool is http://jvectormap.com/."
... or for example mapper.js (automatic area highlighting for image maps)
Good luck!
