Image Masks Not Downsampled

Hi,
We have a PDF that we want to reduce the file size.  When we select reduce file size, we get a window that reads "document contained image masks that were not downsampled". What does this mean?  The 20 page document contains a lot of cut and paste images of maps and site plans that were built in PowerPoint and InDesign.  Using Acrobat 9.
What steps do we have to take to correct this so we can reduce the file size?
Thanks
Barb

It means that the images have a vector mask controlling which areas are visible (acting as a crop). These aren't affected by a RFS action as the vector data is as small as it can be, but the warning is shown because if the underlying bitmap image is resampled, there may be some issues around the edges of the mask (e.g. if the mask very accurately cuts out a shape from a background, some pixels of the background may appear if the image PPI is reduced).

  • Image mask not moving as I move camera ...

I have done a reflection by cloning a layer, adding a rectangle with greyscale gradient and adding an image mask to the clone layer.
When I move the Active Camera anywhere, the image mask does not seem to go with the clone layer. As I change the angle of the camera, the cloned layer eventually disappears.
Can I get the mask to stick to the clone layer ?

Something you mentioned about Z plane was spot on.
I adjusted the Z plane and it now works.
I thought the Z plane would not matter since the image mask just references the image to create a mask, and it would not need to know where it is in space (?)
Anyway, it works now -- thanks

  • Image mask

I am working on a custom sized video in FCPX. File size is 8150 x 1200. Everything seems to go on but image mask, when i load a same size png mask is appears stretched. I test it on a standard video size 4K and it works fine. Is image mask not working with custom files?
I often work on those kind of products and i should fix the problem
    thank you for your help.
    Aldo

I tried using the file you posted as an image mask on a 8150x1200 project and I got similar results as you did.
Although the image used as a mask is the same size as the project, it got stretched horizontally, producing "fat" people.
However, placing the same image on the timeline as a regular clip does not stretch it.
This suggests a workaround, that in my limited testing seems to work. (emphasis on workaround, since I believe it should not be necessary).
Connect your would-be-mask above the clip, and change its blend mode to stencil alpha.

  • Image Mask vs Modify Composite Travel Matte

I have about 30 different clips that I have recieved as RGB and Alpha separated QT movies. I can get the clips to pull the luma from the alpha movies with the Modify>Composite>Travel Matte technique, but that leaves me with a ton of files in the timeline. I would rather be able to use the Effect>Matte>Image Mask technique, but for some reason when I apply the alpha movies to the RGB movies the alpha that is created leaves the RGB transparent.
Does the Effect>Matte>Image Mask not work properly? Is that why the only technique I see in the forums discussed is the Modify>Composite>Travel Matte technique?
    Thanks for any info.

If you are able to set the mask image as the movie file, then you should try setting the mask type to luma, rather than alpha - since the alpha movies are probably black and white images which actually do not contain an alpha channel.

  • IMAQ Quantify rseults with use of image mask are not of the right regeons

I'm using the IMAQ quantify VI from labview to analize a binairy image. This binairy image is an 8bit image that consists only of pixels with the value 0 or 1. The places of the binairy  image where the pixels have the value 0, mean that a corresponding image has not data in that place. A pixel value of 1 means that there is data that should be processed later in the program in the corresponding image.
The quantify function is also used to devide the image in 666 regeons with the use of the image mask input. These regeons are squares of 22x22 pixels. The image mask consists of 666 regeons (horizontally 74 sqaures, vertically 9 sqaures) and each of the regeons has his own regeonal number. The resulting regeonal report is used to decide whether each regeon has data in it or not, with the use of the mean value in the report. When the mean value is equal to 0 than it is sure that there is no data in that regeon since all the pixels in the regeon have to have the value of 0. If the mean is not 0 at least one of the pixels in that regeon has the value of 1, wich means that there is data in the regeon. The image mask is created from an 2D array wich is converted to an 16 bit image with the use of IMAQ ArrayToImage.
I've checked that the input data is correct: the binairy image consist of only 1 and 0 values, the image mask is consist of 666 sqaures of 22x22 pixels and each sqaure has pixels in it with the value corresponding to the regeonal number of the sqaure, the binairy image and the image mask have the same size, the image mask is an 16 bit image and both images have the same border size (3).
    Two problems occur:
    1) The regeonal report doesn't consist of 666 elements, but of 665 elements (element 0 to 664)
    2) The data in the regeonal report is not of the right area's. It looks like the data is shifted one to the right in the regeonal report array, the data in element 0 isn't from regeon 0 but from regeon 1, element 1 corresponds to regeon 2, and so on. I'm haven't checked if the data is exactly of the next regeon, but I suspect it because of the regeonal report array being one short. But it is also possible that the regeons aren't placed on the right place in the binary image.
If someone else occured this problem with the IMAQ Quantify function or has a solution to it, I would really apreaciate a reply.

Isn't there anybody who encountered the same problem or with an solution?

  • Image Mask Error Message when Reducing Size of PDF

With my Mac, I embed jpg images in Microsoft Word documents, save them as pdf's, and reduce them. Size reduction often fails, with the error message "The PDF document contained image masks that were not downsampled".  Jpegs don't have masks, so I have no idea how to fix this problem, and an extensive google search was of no assistance.

Use PNG images instead use an application such as Graphics Converter, Fireworks to convert to .png from .jpg.
Will have much better images that do not degrade each time they are opened and most often they end up being same size than jpeg's
Jpeg unless you save as a special type is a Lossy format and each time is open (and decompressed) then closed (and then compressed) losses detail
Just open and magnify a jpeg after its been open 5-20 times you notice an out of focus halo looking similar looking to water spilled on paper wil pen ink on it. And it get progressively worse. PNG on the other hand is not lossy and if the original is saved as png never degrade even when reduced in size or or expand within reason in size.  I've being dealing with photos screenshots, images and other for years. Despite what other may say on this list may say if you want an image with little trouble for years of service save as png.

  • Which pdf has an image mask?

    Hi guys,
I am making a document in InDesign with many linked pdf as graphics and charts. When i export the InDesign document to PDF it says it has some Image Mask that were not downsampled. How can i tell which of my PDF has an image mask?
    Thanks for any info,
    Cheers,
    S

    Hi,
placing an image wich is not entirely displayed in an image area cause an image mask.
See attached screengrab, the second picture (with the brown area) will create an image mask, in InDesign as in any other software.

  • Deleting image masks

PC, Windows XP, Acrobat Professional version 8. I have a PDF file of a map (132 x 36 and 7 MB in size) in which I am trying to reduce the PDF version it is saved in to Acrobat 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x). I choose Document/Reduce file size, select 'Acrobat 6.0 and later', and then click save. Upon clicking Save I get an error msg. 'The PDF document contained image masks that were not downsampled.' and then another error msg. saying 'Could not find the XObject named 'Im0'.'. The resulting file comes up either completely blank (literally white) or partially blank (white). Is there a way to delete the image masks so the entire map is visible?

Have you tried copy/pasting the elements from the other Motion projects (by opening them all at once) instead of importing?

  • Image Masks?

I've always gotten this warning after saving a PDF containing JPEGs.  What is it, how does it affect my final PDF, and how can I fix it?
My main concern here is whether or not I could be getting smaller file sizes out of my final PDFs if this warning were "fixed".
"The PDF document contained image masks that were not downsampled."

See my explanation of image masks here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4227572#4227572
It's not really something you need to "fix", it's only a warning because in some cases it might lead to strange visual effects around the edges of a masked image.

  • Cannot reduce file size in Acrobat X due to "image masks"

Occasionally, when I try to reduce the file size of a PDF file in Acrobat X, I am getting the error message that the file was not re-rendered because of "image masks".
What precisely does this mean? How are image masks created in the PDF production process and how do I avoid them going into the file?
In this case, it was a simple Word document including a text and two semi-transparent GIF images on top of each other placed behind the text.
    Any help would be appreciated!

Try to flatten the pdfs that should get rid of the masks (use Preflight tools).

  • SVG image does not appear in mobile version but does in desktop version

    Hi,
I am new to using Muse and have created only one site before in Muse. I have taken screenshots to show the problem I am having.
I have used Illustrator to create the following logo image that I save out as an SVG file:
As you've probably guessed, I have used clipping mask to insert the marbly purple image into the shapes and text (this may be relevant to the problem, I don't know).
I then save it out as an SVG with the following details as advised by Adobe:
Then moving into Muse, I File > Place the SVG file. 'Unable to generate thumbnail' comes up in both desktop and phone versions:
Regardless, I uploaded to FTP post to my website. While the SVG appears perfectly on my desktop browser, it does not show at all on my phone browser:
This is not only happening on my phone, I have visited the same website on multiple phone devices and still the SVG image does not appear. Any ideas why this is happening?
Have I totally missed something about file formats for mobile browser versions in Muse?
Also- in illustrator, I saved the SVG logo for the mobile version as a SMALLER SVG than the one I saved for the desktop version.
    Thanks

Use a PNG file. I see nothing in your logo that would warrant using anything else. You're not scaling it, there is no interaction and all you are doing is masking out some data that is pixels already. Pardon me, but using an SVG makes no sense at all. Beyond that one would need to see the file, but my guess would be that the "responsive" setting once again embeds some garbage data. Wouldn't be the first time...

  • Transparent Image does not open well in Adobe Ilustrator

    Hello,
Thanks for the answer to my previous question
I have a code that uses PDF Library to generate a PDF file. This pdf file includes an image and a soft mask applied on it.
When I open the pdf file in the Adobe Reader the file opens well. But when I open it in Adobe Illustrator, the soft mask seems to be not correct. (wrong areas become transparent)
The Image is 8 bits per component, and the soft mask is 1 bits per component.
When I change the soft mask to 8 bits per component it opens well in the Illustrator.
I added padding to the soft mask so that each row size is a multiple of 8, in order to fix a similar problem that I had with Adobe Reader, and this seemed to fix the problem.
Can this be related to the fact that the number of raw pixels of the soft mask (and the image) is not an integer multiple of 8?
    How can I fix this?
Also, do an image and a soft mask must have the same width and height?
    Thanks

Adobe Illustrator is NOT a PDF editor.  It does NOT support all features of PDF, so some things may not be correct.
But that said, you also don't mention what version of Illustrator (or Reader, for that matter).  Perhaps you have an older version?

I don't know how I have manage to finish up with two Image Masks being set under the effects tab in the Inspector window. • Mask not working correctly?

    Hi every one!
I have this problem with my mask not working properly, i have an image, and it has an red fruit sitting on a table,
i have to make the picture sepia using an adjustment layer ( my lecturer says it MUST be done that way)
but leaving the fruit as red as possible. So when i do this i MUST use the layer mask provided by the
adjustment layer, but what is happening is the orange is going a very faded red ( but not quite sepia), the table BG does go sepia..
so its KIND OF working but not really.
    Cheers
    Bunny Face

Check your mask by OPTION CLICKING on the mask icon on the specific layer. This will show you a greyscale mask. BLACK hides, WHITE REVEALS. SO obviously grey does half of each! So if you dont want the apple to be affected by the layer mask you  must paint it BLACK in the mask of that adjustment layer.

  • Revolution Theme Background Shadows or Image Mask

    Hello Again.
Despites wise advise of ¨just call me dude¨I obtain what I need, He oppens a new interrogative.
How to modify background´s image mask. It drops some kind of shadow at the upper right side of the image and become´s dark in that place.
That is great, but I am tryiong to find how to eliminate it or make it less dark.
I know this is a hard question, but I´ll give a chance to destiny to point me in the right path.
I checked the adress http://digitalproducer.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=67633 and opened the file ThemeDescription7.plist and search into it with plistedit pro, but I have no idea where to find a clue on that, as I am not a English reader, I have no idea about the name of that effect who affects the image I drag into the sceene and to the background. I looked for shadow, but no changes, blur, but no blur at all.
    Thank´s for your help
    AH

    Hello, Arturoherva,
I followed what you are asking. I downloaded Plistedit pro, and found the steps to modify the Reflections blurring in iDVD 6 themes. The same process does not work for iDVD 7 (08), because the Revolution theme is not organized in the source file in the same way. I could not locate a similar folder with the Resource option.
I think this may be able to be done, but not with the same steps as given in the example on the link you provided.
There probably is a command to lighten the background of the Revolution theme, but the steps listed for PlistEdit are for themes prior to iDVD 8.
Maybe you should contact PlistEdit and get instructions for use with iDVD 7(08), and post them back here
