want help - give us details - with what you gave us one can not even make wild guesses
How did you backup and how did you restore? what versions of iPhoto and the OS. What exactly does "won't let me view them" mean? Why are you restoring a backup? what other details can you provide that might let someone actually help you?

  • Problem with images disappearing from project

I have inserted a number of images into my Robohelp 9 project topics using the Insert >> Image function.  Typically the images were stored on my hard drive on my pc, but some I pulled from a shared network drive that were prepared by other people.  They seemed to load into the project OK.  I had them grouped in a about 5 different robohelp folders to keep them organized so after I would insert, complete my topic and save.  I would move the images to their respective folder.  This was fine for a while,  I had no problems generating printed .pdf documentation, making changes to my topics, etc.  But now the images keep disappearing from the Robohelp folder structure and the printed documentation.  I can see the images when I open up and view the topics.  I can also see them when I look out onto the drive on the computer.  However, they do not show up in the Robohelp  Project Manager and are not included in my printed output.  I keep re-inserting them, but they continue to disappear.

    Hi there
Certainly it won't hurt anything to add the images to baggage files, but I'd be shocked to find that solves the problem.
If an image has been used in RoboHelp, it should be present in the project. End of story. The fact they seem to be disappearing seems to suggest that maybe something has gone awry with folder naming or image naming or the project in general.
So what version and flavor of RoboHelp are you using?
    RoboHelp 10, RoboHelp 9, RoboHelp 8, etc.
    RoboHelp HTML, RoboHelp for Word

  • Image 'lost' from Project

Anyone had experience of loosing images?
Have been slowly exploring adoption of Aperture in workflows. Following sequence adopted resulted in images being 'lost' - Not a good thing!:
    1. import existing images into different Image Projects - mostly RAW NEF files
    2. Under each Image Project, select & adjust images, create and arrange selected images in a project-specific Light Table - each Light Table to be a spread in a Book
    3. Create a separate Book Project and within this a Book Album
    4. Copy the Light Tables (drag-n-drop) from the source Image Projects to the Book Project
    5. Copy the selected images from each Light Table into the Book Album for layout on different spreads
In itself a pretty naff sequence as it quickly becomes apparent a major shortcoming here is that you need to do the layout & re-sizing steps twice - once for the Light Table direction then again for the Book Layout (and I thought computers made repetitive tasks a thing of history).
However - and I've repeated this - what you find is Images end up in the Book but Magically disappear from the Light Table Albums as well as the Original Project. Not a feature I really want.
I asked at the local Apple Store Genius centre and they at least provided relief that the image is not 'lost' forever - just to Aperture. There's a neat trick for drilling down the Aperture project database: a right-click (cntrl-click) on the Aperture project database will give you a menu item ' Show Package Contents' which then reveals all projects - and successive right-clicks then allow you to drill down the images so you can actually search and find using Finder. It's rescued me with only a few hundred images at present in the system - but I'd hate to be searching through a few thousand.
Is there an easier way for Aperture to repair the database?
Until I'm confident in the image storage, Aperture will remain just experimmental.
    Dual 2.5G5 1.5GB   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Basically, dragging a file from one Project to
another actually moves the original file and removes
    it from the original Project.
Not true if you are dragging Albums from one Project to Another - a legitimate expectation in a profesional workflow - and fluid workflow support is after all a core promise of Aperture.
Moving or copying Albums (eg drag-n-drop of Light Table Album) leaves the original Project intact. Or so it should do. But it doesn't. Instead odd images randomly disappear from the original project - and the Album.
As another respondent said, the biggest problem is not thatthey disappear forever - you can dig around and retrieve them - but that you don't know what's suddenly disappeared from sight unless you know your projects image-by-image.
Loosing stuff from a database is the biggest no-no of any application and Apple need to fix this one fast - or at least have a repair mechanism.

  • Deleting unused images in RH8 project root folder.

    Hi:
I have a large number of unused images in the root folder of my RH8 project. Is there a way to delete them in bulk from inside of RH8? What if I deleted them from outside of RH8 through the Windows Explorer?
    Thanks,
    K

I find the easiest way to deal with unwanted files is to run the Usused Files report from the Tools > Reports menu. This lists (surprisingly) all your unused files. You can then delete them from Windows Explorer. There you can multi-select the files to make things easier.

  • Unsupported image format after moving from one project to another

I scanned several thousands of images to my Aperture library. Went thru all of them providing adjustments to many of them, keywords to all of them and adjust date/time to all of them. All of the pics were visible, format is jpeg.
This is a managed library (all pics within Aperture db).
This morning started to restructure the project files (had three of them). After moving couple of hundred images to newly created project file I started seeing "unsupported image format" red screen after clicking the jpeg. 20-30% of the pictures clicked showed on viewer "unsupported image format".
Tried regenerating the previews. Tried command-option start with first fix the preferences option. Then with rebuild option.
Tried moving the pictures back to their original project file.
No joy... Still 20-30% of the pictures show the "unsupported image format".
    Aperture 2.1.
Amy other tricks I could try?
Reported this to Apple aperture feedback of course.

Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network, Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
+Note: there is no importing involved+
The thumbs appear, but the images are added 2 or 3 times each and the events are all messed up.
This happens when you import one Library to another, which you've done by drag and drop:
Creating a black library and over writing the new with the old.
Your problem is arising because of the Network Share. iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.

  • Moving images from project to project

Every time I try to MOVE an image from one project to another project, it COPIES it instead. That's not what the manual says should happen. Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks, Fran

Welcome to the list. Have you read the [Help & Terms of Use|http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa] section yet?
The only way you would be coping from project to project is if you were holding down the option key while you dragged the image.
If that's not the case then it really sounds like either the source or destination (or both) are other than projects. Remember projects are the yellow file box looking things.

  • Images "Disappear" When Moving a Project But Really They'r e Just Invisible

Last night I imported 442 images into a new project. I rated them, and edited about 40-50. This morning I moved the project within the same library. When I did so, all the images disappeared, sort of. The project appeared empty. I let it sit a couple of minutes, and undid the move to no effect.
I checked to see if a filter was blocking the images but it was not the problem. I checked the Project properties and it showed the images were all there (plus, I use referenced files and I hadn't deleted the CF card so worst case scenario I had all my originals). Also, when I displayed all the projects in a browser view window, the project showed up and I could sweep through all the thumbnails in the project browser. But again, if I selected the project and tried to see the images in either the browser, viewer, or split view, nothing showed up. No thumbnails, no file names, no empty thumbnails, nothing. The photos were sort of invisible.
I "solved" the issue by moving an image - any image - from another project into the problem project. Suddenly that photo and all the other images, were visible. Removing the random image did not recreate the problem.
Since I no longer have the problem I'm posting for 2 reasons: (1) to publish the problem and my fix in case anybody gets the same problem, and (2) to see if anybody knows what caused this and if there is a more direct fix than my weird indirect fix. Thanks.

I have had the same thing happen consistently. I import images into a default project. Then when I move the project into an organizational folder... all the images disappear. After a couple of panics, I have now realized that if I stay calm, close Aperture, then open it again, the pictures are all present. Quite a pain in the butt, but at least there is a work around. Albeit a bit scary .
    Best,
    Jim

  • How do you move pictures from one project/album/folder to a different one?

I have tried dragging a picture from one album within a project to a different album in the same project and a picture from one project to another project (specifically to a album in the different project), but have had no success.  I have looked through the Aperture Help pages and searched on "move picture", but had no success.  I'm sure there is a way to move pictures.  Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

It's _very_ important that you understand the difference between Projects and Albums:  specifically the difference in the relationship between an Image and a Project or an Album.  This little "Naming of the Parts" I posted has helped others with this non-intuitive issue.
Read it, try more dragging-and-dropping (if moving is indeed what you want to do), and post back with specific questions (e.g.: I did X, I expected Y, I got Z).

  • How to reference a folder/file outside from project folder

    Hi All,
I have two extensions which wants to share some code(files) placed in a folder outside from source directory.
for a simple case see the below example.
created a sample extension HelloWorld whose project structure are as follows
    HelloWorld
         ExtensionContents
              lib/CSInterface-4.0.0.js
              jsx/InDesign.jsx
              HelloWorld.jsx
              index.html.
I have another folder say "sharedAssets" it contains two images "Orange.gif and pear.gif" which is at same location where HelloWorld and now folder structure becomes
    HelloWorld > ExtensionContents
    sharedAssets > Orange.gif
                             pear.gif
I have added linked resource folder see the attached screenshot
I have written following line of codes in index.html
    <body onLoad="onLoaded()">
    <div id="content">
      <ul>
      <li><img src="Orange.gif" width="42" height="42"/></li>
      <li><img src="shared/pear.gif"/></li>
      </ul>
    </div></body>
but when I opened the extension then it failed to load Orange.gif and pear.gif,
Please let me know how I could reference an image placed in a folder outside from project folder.
    Regards,
    Alam

    Hi Alam,
I don't use Eclipse / EB myself so I can be of no help in the way you set an alternate location folder there.
I've looked in the MXI reference but it seems there's no token equivalent to the "parent folder of all extensions" i.e.
    /Users/Davide/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/CEPServiceManager4/extensions
or whatever it will be in the future. This is where Extension Manager puts stuff when the MXI is something like:
    <file   source="HTML/com.example.helloworld.zxp"
            destination=""
            file-type="CSXS"
            products="Photoshop,Photoshop32,Photoshop64"
            minVersion="14.0" />
that is, destination is blank, file-type is "CSXS".
I've never tried to put there stuff other than ZXP - you can give it a try.
An alternative escamotage could be to use an external folder, which path token exists both in MXI land *and* in (CSInterface or ExtendScript).
That is, a place Extension Manager installs your shared content; which path can be reached from the panel or the JSX.
As an example $userdatafolder/alam/shared in MXI, and Folder.userData/alam/shared in JSX, or SystemPath.USER_DATA/alam/shared in JS.
There are other product specific tokens (Photoshop Script folder for instance) where you can put things into.

  • "Moving a project from network L: drive to C: drive - how do I relink the files?

    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/4.0/WS3D22F379-B6C7-4d8c-9548-26AA3E1EA74F.html
In the above thread "Moving a project to another computer" it states the assets should retain their file names and folder locations so that Premiere Pro can find them and relink them to their clips in the project automatically and although I'm only a novice PP user that is standard advice for any software.  However I can't find advice anywhere on how to swap a project from one disk drive to another on the same computer.
What I want to do is move the project media files off my network (L:) drive to the C: drive of the editing computer as all the advice on here about disk drives is not to use network drives.  I've copied the files over but how do I replace the media file links within the PP project which are currently pointing to the sub-folders on my L:drive with replacement one's pointing to the same folder names but with the path as C: drive.  Sorry if it is a numpties question but I'm not finding the answer via search.
Reason for shifting project - for some reason the sequence files were being lost when I reopened the project so I had to reuse the last good auto-save despite loss of some editing work and the project had also suddenly started taking up to an hour to load all the linked media.  Given the advice about not using network drives decided to eliminate one of the possible causes before going any further with risk of losing the edited file..

I strongly agree with Jim on where to relocate the Project and media files.
Now, when you do Move the files, the Paths (absolute) in the PRPROJ file(s), will no longer be correct. The drive letter will have changed.
When you Open your Project from its new location, you will get a question dialog, "Where is file _____ ?" for the first Asset, where the link is now broken. Using the Finder, navigate to the folder, where that first missing Asset is NOW located, and select that. PrPro will then look in that folder, and will automatically relink to all Assets in that folder. If you have your Assets in multiple folders, you will need to repeat, for each folder, and again, PrPro will relink to all Assets in THAT folder. Depending on the folder/sub-folder hierarchy, you will have to repeat for all folders.
When all Assets have been relinked, I would immediately do a Save_As, incrementing the Project's name, so as to NOT overwrite that original Project file - just in case you ever need to revisit that.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Images Removed from Vault Folder

So if I try to import any of those images in "Images Removed from Vault" with the box checked don't import duplicates, and I check each and every image and none show up in Import window then these must be duplicates and then safe to trash? Correct?

Yes it is a normal but unreported feature. When you run the vault command the vault created is a snapshot of the current state of the library. If there is a previous vault for this library then images that are in the vault but no longer in the library are moved to the folder you referred to.
If you are certain you do not want any of those images anymore you an delete them.

  • Folder labeled "Images Removed from Aperture Vault #1"

    Hi all,
I was just looking at everything that's on the External Hard Drive on which I have my Aperture Vault.  There's another folder on that EHD labeled "Images Removed from Aperture Vault #1."  Noodling through that folder, it seems to be every master that I've deleted, broken down my year, month, and even day.
Is this normal behavior?  Can I delete all those sub-folders, etc.?  Should I keep the folder itself?  Did I somehow set this up initally?
Anyhoo, thank you all for any suggestions.

  • Images Corrupted after Moving from Phone Memory to SD Card

Hi, I have a Sony Xperia Z3 16GB version and Recently I had been to a hiking trip and had used my Xperia Z3 on the trip extensively for photos and vidoes. I have taken as much as 600 photos and few videos of size 2.9 GB. Since the phone memory was getting full, i moved the images, videos using the "Move Files to SD Card" option found under "Settings --> Storage". The Transfer finished successfully and the phone memory was relieved. Now after this transfer, i can't open any images moved to SD card. They all were moved to "DCIM --> 100ANDRO" folder.  The photos seem to be corrupted. ALL OF THEM   This is such a mess and I tried a few tools for recovering the images. They didn't help me any. Can anyone of you have any suggestions on how to recover these photos?  These are memories from a Trip which I can do only once in life time  Please help.  Note: The jpeg image properties show up the File Size clearly which means that the content is still there but somehow corrupted

You could try a check disk - So with the card connected open a command prompt then type the drive letter of the card then : so for example K: then hit enter - Then type chkdsk /f then hit enter - When finished check your cards files
