Image not displaying correctly Photoshop CS5 Extended V 12.1. (Same file OK in PS Elements)

I am having a problem with Photoshop CS5 Extended V 12.1.
The problem:
When I open some files, some shades of BLUE colour is displayed as BLACK
However the same file  opens and displays correctly if I open it using Photoshop Elements V9.0.3.
When I save the file as JPEG and re-open it, the problem returns.
Opening the JPEG file in any other application, including PS Elements, does not cause the problem
Source of files
The original files came from a Nikon camera, saved in RAW format. It is possible that the original files were corrupted in some way as the shots had an unusual blue cast - which was easily resolved by Photoshop when I originally opened the RAW files. However, I'm not sure.
The problem is not universal as I've not been able to reproduce it with any other files (RAW or JPEG).
I have calibrated my monitor display settings sRGB IEC61966-2.1 (default)
Other information:
Adobe Photoshop Version: 12.1
Operating System: Windows 7 64-bitVersion: 6.1 Service Pack 1
System architecture: Intel CPU

Model:10,
Stepping:9 with MMX, SSE Integer, SSE FP, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2
Physical processor count: 8
Processor speed: 3395 MHz
Built-in memory: 8153 MB
Free memory: 5089 MB
Memory available to Photoshop: 7147 MB
Memory used by Photoshop: 60 %
Image tile size: 128K

Thank you for yur reply, Curt. Yes, I do have the original RAW file. When I open it in PSE and PS, the colours appear correctly AT FIRST as shown here:
However, when I select "Open Image", it appears as here:
You will see that the blues in the lady's scarf and the wolly hat of a man in the forground are appearing as black. However, when the file is saved as JPEG or PNG and printed or viewed using PSE or Pait, or any other medium (even Premiere Elements), the colurs arer fine.
However, the same process when followed in PSE, does not result in the same outcome. The image displays correctly.

  • JPG images not displayed correctly in Bridge and Photoshop (Mac OS)

(Note: I have copied the content of this query from the Creative Suites forum where I originally opened it.)
I am using CS4 under OSX 10.4.11 on a PowerMac G5 Quad with 23" Apple cinema display. Images which have been captured as JPG are displayed fine by Preview, but when opened in Bridge, Camera Raw or Photoshop. the colours are all "washed out". The attached screen capture should give an idea of the difference, with the upper being Camera Raw (image settings) and the lower being Preview. My monitor has been calibrated and I'm using sRGB IEC61966-2.1 colour space in Camera Raw and Photoshop. The colours displayed by Preview are pretty close to "real life". I find it virtually impossible to adjust the colours in Photoshop to get back to anything similar.
After opening the image in Photoshop without adjustment, and Save As JPEG with embedded color profile, Preview displays the new image the same as Photoshop. Save As JPEG without embedded color profile, and Preview displays this copy just like the original. It seems that Photoshop is making different (incorrect) assumptions about what color space to use when there is no embedded color profile. Shouldn't it assume sRGB like virtually everything else (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SRGB)? Or is its interpretation of sRGB incorrect? How can I fix this?

…If there is someone out there who has experience of obtaining decent colour management in CS4 on a Power PC, I would really like to know how you achieved it.
That would be yours truly, and I hasten to reply because I may have some insights that can help you too.
Just get it it out of the way, here's my setup:
Photoshop 11.0.2 ("CS4"); VersionCue disabled and uninstalled.—2.5 GHz Power Mac (PPC) G5-Quad; 16GB RAM; mutant, flashed 550MHz nVidia GeForce 7800GTX 1,700MHz 512MB VRAM; ATTO ExpressPCI UL5D LP SCSI card; Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 and Leopard 10.5.8 boot drives; Spotblight, Dashboard and Time Machine permanently disabled; dual 22" CRT monitors; USB wireless 'n' available but connected to the Internet via wired Ethernet; 1 FW flatbed scanner; 2 SCSI scanners (one tabloid-size transparency scanner and a film scanner); various internal & external HDs; FW Epson 2200 and Ethernet Samsung ML-2850ND printers; 2 X Back-UPS RS 1500 XS units.
I can unambiguously and in good faith represent to you that my color management, from capture to print, is as spot-on as anyone with any kind of setup can hope to achieve.  Unequivocally and without qualifications.
Now, first things first:  Forget about trying to synchronize color management across the point applications lumped together only by Adobe marketing fiat into a variety of meaningless "creative suites".  Concentrate on Photoshop.  Do not try to use Bridge to synchronize anything.
The "suites" are a totally artificial construct created by Adobe bean counters and marketing types.  The point applications (i.e. the individual programs clumsily bundled together, e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) are developed independently by separate engineering teams that are not only not in the same building, but in different cities, different states of the American Union, and even in different countries.  They have very little communication among them, if any, as evidenced by repeated posts in these forums by Photoshop engineering staff urging us, the end users, to let the other teams know in their own forums that a given problem exists and is actually affecting our work.
Enough said about the cause of the problem.  The end result is that Color Management is at very, very different levels of progress and sophistication in each individual point application, with only Photoshop fully entitled to be considered state of the art.
Secondly, a disclaimer:  I have been hanging on to my CRT monitors and take care of them as Jascha Heifetz used to take care of his Stradivarius.  I don't know what I will do if I manage to outlive the usefulness and accuracy of my CRTs (unlikely at this point).  I have despaired in futile efforts to bring the luminosity of any LCD monitor down to where I would feel comfortable calibrating and profiling it.  I believe my monitors are the foundation of my color management efforts.
Especially if you have one of the extreme wide-gamut LCD or LED monitors, you'll face an uphill battle.
Be careful to avoid any version 4 icc profiles, whether canned or generated by your calibration software.  Stick to version2 icc profiles.  Ask the manufacturer of your calibration software/hardware if in doubt.
Here are some not-too-recent, but thoroughly representative screen shots of the calibration results I obtain with my monitors, which I calibrate and profile often and regularly (I validate the calibration at least several times per month).
In a nutshell, my color management practices and settings mirror those described by Bruce Fraser, Jeff Schewe, Andrew Rodney and Gary Ballard's site.  I have learned from all of them.
My working color space is ProPhoto RGB.  I choose to work with PSD and PSB files.  As a long-time, rabid JPEG hater, I only rarely deal with JPEGs, using them sporadically to illustrate a point in this forum or elsewhere in the web.  My main output consists of prints.
I only deal with tagged image files (files with an embedded color profile) and often recommend beating up with a baseball bat any moron that hands you an untagged file—figuratively of course, but I find the expression gets my point across unambiguously.
Following is a screen shot of some of my pertinent settings:
Note that I have never bought into the "suite" concept myself.  I do have and routinely use Adobe Illustrator 10.x, InDesign 2.x and Acrobat Professional 8.x, but they are all older, independent versions of each point application, licensed at different times.
Be further advised, that the answer to many problems offered by Adobe engineers often is not to install VersionCue, or uninstall it, or at least disable it.
Also, as outlined at the beginning of this post, concentrate on Photoshop, not on synchronizing applications that can't really communicate with each other, despite the claims of Adobe marketing hacks to the contrary.
One big caveat, do not fall into this trap:

You either want to learn, or you don't.  You either want to solve your problems, or you don't.
When you start arguing instead of studying, questioning advice instead of following it and detecting where you went wrong, you're on the right track to nowhere.  That attitude will get you there fast.  Remember you are the one with the problem, and only you can acquire the discipline to learn how to solve it.
Go ahead and ask me anything that is not clear, just don't argue with me please, and don't tell me why you think Fraser, Rodney, Ballard and I are wrong.  You see, I am not experiencing any problem that needs fixing.  I have an interest in helping you, but not in hearing about your speculations, theories or conclusions.
    Good luck.

  • Image not displayed correctly in image control at small zoom level

I am displaying an image in an image control with a zoom factor of ~0.015 and it appears as shown in image 1.jpg.  When I zoom in a little more to ~0.016 the image is displayed correctly as shown in image 2.jpg.  Both images are attached.
Why is the image displayed as a "grey strip" in the first image?  What do I need to do to have the image displayed correctly at any zoom factor?  I am using LV 2011 with the associated vision development module on Windows 7.
    Thanks,

    Hi Jonathan,
Did you try resizing your image dimensions, as I suggested in my previous post? Anti-aliasing is an expected behavior; as you zoom out, the image has to be resampled in order to be displayed properly. At some point, LabVIEW assumes that the image has been resampled to the point where it no longer resembles the initial image, and so it greys the image out. In the case of your image, that is not the case. As I said, I believe an acceptable workaround would be to use IMAQ resample to half or quarter the pixel dimensions of your image, at which point it should be able to be displayed at a higher zoom factor.

  • T400 Images Not Displaying Correctly On External Monitor

One of our users has a T400 laptop (6475-FM4) with Windows XP Professional installed on it.  He has an external monitor that he has plugged in to his laptop which he is using to extend his desktop.
If you open up a document (say Word or Excel) that contains images and view it on the laptops screen you can scroll up and down the document and the images are displayed OK.
If you open the document on the external screen then the images are displayed when you first open it, but as soon as you scroll up or down all you can see are the place holders for the images.  If you move the document back to the built-in screen they display correctly.
What have I done so far?
I have updated the Chipset drivers and the actual Graphics/Video drivers and the issue is still the same.
I have tried turning down the Hardware Acceleration but that did not resolve the problem.
I've made sure that the Field codes option in Word is not ticked (suggestion found via Google)
I've made sure that the Picture placeholders option is not ticked in Word (again found on Google)
I've searched the internet for other possible solutions and can not find any.
    HELP!

one more point to add...i installed windows using bootcamp, and through windows the 2560X1440 resolution works. so its not a hardware problem either

  • Flash images not displaying correctly

    Hi there,
First post here, but could really us the help.
I'm looking after this site:  http://theacademy.me/index.htm
The previous web developer set up a swfobject image rotator which didn't work before I got here. I wanted to get it working, but now the images display incorrectly in Firefox 8 and Safari 5.1.2. IE and Chrome are fine.
    What i did:
    1. Commented out this in index page to tidy it up (the file it points to doesn't exist)
    <script src="scripts/swfobject_modified.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    2. image rotator then displayed as it does now in Safari and Firefox
    3. Un- commented the code
    4. Image rotator still displaying incorrectly
    5. restored index page to the last known good version, when it did display correctly
    6. Image rotator still displaying incorrectly
SWfobject version is 1.5 I believe.
Also, the slideshow works fine on the local copy, but not live.
Any help would be great- please bear in mind I'm not a Flash guru- this is burning up a lot of time and I could do with some fresh eyes on the problem.
    Thanks!

    Hi Ned,
Thanks a lot for posting- I've been spending a lot of time checking every angle. I've managed to use the latest swfobject code as suggested to embed the video.
It's an improvement- the video now works on the live site in IE, but still doesn't play in Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. It seems as if the browsers are rendering the final picture in the rotator gallery outside of the frame.
Here's what I've added to my test page at http://theacademy.me/index4.1d.htm:

  • Image not displaying correctly when imported in to InDesign

For some reason InDesign & Illustrator are displaying images correctly. When imported the image is missing layers or the layer is chopped. I have tried exporting the image as a PSD, Tif & JPG. All do the same thing. If I look at the image in Photoshop or MS Word it's fine. I even tried the image in Premiere and it displays correctly

Ignore. Have found out it was down to paths. Sorted

  • JPG images not displayed correctly in Bridge and Photoshop

I am using CS4 under OSX 10.4.11 on a PowerMac G5 Quad. Images which have been captured as JPG are displayed fine by Preview, but when opened in Bridge, Camera Raw or Photoshop. the colours are all "washed out". The attached screen capture should give an idea of the difference, with the upper being Camera Raw (image settings) and the lower being Preview. My monitor has been calibrated and I'm using sRGB IEC61966-2.1 colour space in Camera Raw and Photoshop. what could be causing this?

I've done some more experimentation. After opening the image in Photoshop without adjustment, then Save As JPEG with embedded color profile, Preview displays the new image the same as Photoshop. Save As JPEG without embedded color profile, and Preview displays this copy just like the original. It seems that Photoshop is making different (incorrect) assumptions about what color space to use when there is no embedded color profile. Shouldn't it assume sRGB like everything else? Or is its interpretation of sRGB incorrect? How can I fix this?

  • Processed Images Not Displaying Correctly

I've searched the discussion pool and Internet, but I can't seem to find someone with my exact issue, so hoping someone out there has some ideas.
I am using Aperture 3.0.2 on an iMac 24" 2.16Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.6.3.
Recently, images that I have applied adjustments to have started appearing incorrectly. This does not appear to happen to images that I have not made any adjustments to after import. Here's an example:
In this case, half of the image is blacked out, but other symptoms include pieces of other images interlaced with the image or random colored boxes and lines blocking out portions of the image.
I have tried deleting previews, rebuilding them, removing adjustments, reapplying them, running Aperture in both 32 and 64 bit mode without success in fixing the problem.
    Thoughts?

Yep, this is a problem of displaying the image in Aperture's preview window. I think it's primarily a video driver bug caused by a bad mix of Aperture 3.0.2, Mac OS X 10.6.3, and (at least) the Nvidia 7300 graphics card specifically on the 24" 2.16 GHz white iMac. This model seems to be the one most affected. If you look hard enough, there are actually a couple other threads on this forum and other forms regarding this and/or similar graphic problems. The commonalities are the three things I listed above.
Workarounds (not really solutions): As someone else mentioned, restarting the program may temporarily "cure" it. Forcing the screen to redraw the image, either by zooming in/out or by resizing Aperture's window, also may temporarily fix it. The best thing is to simply downgrade to 10.6.2. I Simply installed Mac OS on one of my external HDs and applied the 10.6.2 Combo update. I then simply reboot when I start a Aperture session, and reboot back to 10.6.3 and the rest of my life when done. No, this is not convenient.
Everyone should call Support, visit Apple Geniuses, and/or at least send in Aperture feedback regarding this bug. With such a narrow range of affected hardware and software, I don't think we'll be seeing a real solution anytime soon. Hopefully with the next scheduled Aperture or Mac OS update in a few weeks/months/seasons, but I'm not holding my breath.

  • Images not displaying correctly when using crystal add-on for SAP B1

If you have a jpeg logo which has a graduated colour affect on a crystal report and preview and print it straight from Crystal, the image appears normal but when you run it through the crystal add-on viewer the graduated colour comes out in different coloured blocks and the image is not as well defined.
Is there a way to stop this from happening?  Is there a setting I can change?
    Thanks,
    Kate

    Hi Kate,
At this moment I am facing the same problem: I want to display pictures on a quotation lay-out.
Tomorrow I will take a look at this with a collegue of mine. If we are able to solve this issue I will inform you.
    Kind regards,

Photoshop is opening my files but doesn't display the image unless I drag the window. Has anyone else encountered this issue? If so, how did you resolve it?

Hey, nice website.  I've only had a quick look-see, but I think I am going to enjoy have a serious read of it.
Only problem is that's a picture of a scarry looking dude on the home page. :-)

  • Images not displaying correctly in IE

I have developed a site using Adobe CS4 Flash and Dreamweaver. My image looks great in the SWF, FireFox, and in the studio. But when IE gets a hold of it, the image distorts.
The WN logo is the distorted one.

    Thanks for any help.

Looks the same to me in IE so I'm not sure. On a different subject, consider removing the menu rollover sounds.  These are constantly ranked among the top 5 user annoyances on the web. At the very least, give people the option to enable them if they want.

I have read many posts on this problem and have attempted several of the suggestions but none have worked. As I am very green, this may appear very simplistic.

    2. I downloaded and installed APEX using EPG as outlined in the APEX Installation Guide.
    3. I completed the post-installation requirements including the EPG set up.
    4. I launched Internet Explore and went to //localhost:8080/apex/apex_admin
    5. This returned the 'Apex' is undefined error.
    6. I have unlocked ananymous and XDB several times
    Attempted Solutions:
    1. Confirmed that the image were installed. The location is D:\apex_4.0.2\apex\images which is the correct path for my installation.
    2. Ran the reset_image_Prefix.sql
    3. Ran Apxldimg.Sql
    4. Ran the reset_image_prefix.sql /i32/ to try and rename first instance. The error stayed by I now have to enter the xdb user name and password.
    5. I tried the thread instructions :Extract Apex install zip to c:\temp.
Then you should have folder c:\temp\apex
Login to sqlplus as SYS user and run
    @c:\temp\apex\apxldimg.sql c:\temp
    Questions:
    1. How do I determine if there is more than one instance of /i/?
    2. How do I view the DADS.conf for APEX with EPG to determent the current /i/ parameter.
    3. How do I fix the image file problem?
    Thank you for any input.

If you are using mod_plsql, you need to run @apxldimg.sql script with SYS user file present with Apex installation. Also provide the location of your apex folder as parameter to this script.

  • ODT file images not displaying correctly in Word 2013

When I open an ODT file in Word 2013, the images appear "grayed out". I must click on each to reset them to automatic color.  This only happens in mine, when I send the file to others, the images display fine. I am thinking it is some sort
of setting in word, but can't figure out what.

    Hi,
Does this happen to all ODT files or a certain one?
As an initial troubleshooting step, please try to open Word in safe mode and try again:
    Type winword.exe /safe in Run
dialog (Press Windows key + R)and hit Enter, to start Word in safe mode.
Office Safe Mode will help to determine if there is any add-ins caused the issue.
