Image panel Photoshop CC (for old designer)

Today I realized that they are not very smart; i'm an old designer (60!!) and i do a Creative Cloud Subscription.
My problem is to save a copy of some images with 150 ppi + 450 ppi. How to do this with new Image panel of Photoshop CC?
Before i always used Photoshop CS2! This is my Image panel!
Best!

What trips you up?
If you want to maintain physical size while changing the resolution change the Width or Height units to mm (for example) and enter the new image resolution.

  • Anyone using Photoshop Elements for Fashion Design

    Hi,
I'm looking for software to help me in the Fashion Design Industry. I want to use it for my sketches.   I am a beginner when it comes to Fashion Design and have no experience using Photoshop software.  I had read somewhere that Photoshop Elements is a less expensive version of Photoshop.  I read that it does 90% of what Photoshop does without the higher end pre -press printing capabilities.  I also read that there is a book that will help you with the other 10% to achieve the full Photoshop capabilities.
1a.  I would like to know is anyone using Photoshop Elements for Fashion Design?
1b.  If yes, please explain in details what exactly are you using it for?
2a.  Is there more than one version of Photoshop Elements?
2b.  If so, what version do you recommend?
    3.   How easy is it to use?
    4.  Do you know of any books you can recommend that will help me with using the software for fashion design?
    5.  If you don't feel Photoshop Elements is the best choice, then what other software would you recommend?
    Thanks

I've never used PSE for fashion design, but there is only one flavor of elements, not a variety of different versions. I would wonder about using it for this because it could make a lot of difference if you need to create output in CMYK form (for print) or to softproof (neither of which is available in PSE). You also can't create composite layers in Elements.
I like Elements a lot, but I would not say it's 90% of Photoshop, more like 70% and I would expect that people would use Illustrator rather than PS for most things to do with creating illustrations. Also, there is no book that can make PSE into PS, although you can extend what it can do, but Adobe has deliberately crippled certain features in PSE.
I would say we need to know what you need a program to do to be able to give you any useful kind of advice. If you need to be able to draw vectors and paths, PSE is not a good choice. If you just need to sketch, it's fine.

  • What's the benefits of Photoshop CC over Photoshop CS3 for print design?

What's the benefits of Photoshop CC over Photoshop CS3 for print design? I'd like to know the advantages and features – all those I read about are to do with being a photographer, RAW, collaborative working, teams or digital designs, and those don't reflect my work.

BRistle brushes, more versatile art brushes, prrspective grid, to name butba few...  Whether or not any of this is relevant for you is for you to decide.

  • Why does Aperture crash when importing modified image into Photoshop CS2?

I have been using Aperture 2.1.4 for the past 2 years and really like the interface. But, I've had one nagging problem: I begin by scanning all of my slides with the Nikon Coolscan 4000 and save them as large tiff files @ approx. 55mb each. I then import each slide with a custom color profile into Aperture. I then optimize the image including white balance, levels, and color adjustments. When I want to make additional changes that I'm not able to do in Aperture, I attempt to send the image to Photoshop CS2 for further processing. But, at this point, Aperture crashes. After this, I get a message saying "do you want to re-open Aperture or quit?" Additionally, I often get the message "Aperture has applied new settings. Do want to keep these new settings or use the original settings?" Since I don't know what will happen if I choose "use the new settings," I always select "keep the original settings." And, when I open Aperture again and try, again, to send the image to Photoshop CS2 to edit, Aperture crashes again. Has anyone had the same or similar problem who can give me some ideas of how to solve this issue! Thanks.

    Welcome to the forums!
It sounds like there may be a permissions issue between the two apps, Aperture using one and PS another.
    1. Are you logged in as an administrator?
    You need to be.
    2. Where is your library stored, is it in the picture folder of your user directory?
If so moving it in to the general area of your MacHD may help get over some of these issues.
    3. Have you run any of the Ap First Aid steps? Have a read of this page;
    Ap2

    Ap3

    4. Is it possible that the upgrade to Ap3 would get you around the need to jump into PS?
Start with these ones and then come back letting us know how you go.

  • I can no longer use Photoshop for UI Design (PS CC + Retina display)

Since I bought the new MacBook Pro with retina display, Photoshop can no longer be an option for user interface design.
I'm runningn the last Photoshop CC update, and each file opens at 50% size compared to other standard displays, which makes working with old files frustrating. Besides, creating a new 1200 wide document to start a web design makes no sense (too small).
    - View > 200% isn't a solution, things look pixelated.
    - To increase the resolution from 72ppi to 220 (retina display) isn't a solution, it doesn't affect the document size
    - Working with a document with 2x size can't be a solution: I should create everything with a 2x size (stroke, shadows, even rounded corners), which would push PS even more far away from being a tool that can be used for UI design.
Should we just expect that PS on a high-res display behave like that? I don't think so. Besides, the guys of Sketch App (a tool for UI design, that I'm currently working with) found a solution - the retina canvas option:
You can choose to see bitmap images pixelated, but still the vectors will look exactly like on the browser. By choosing to see the document at the same size but with more details, retina users can enjoy the power of the new MacBook while working on UI design.
Am I missing something? Should we expect this option in Photoshop too?

It upsets me to see that this was initially posted almost a year ago and there was no answer. There also seems to be no answer to various other questions about the same issue. Adobe do you care? I am already guessing that Apple doesn't. I know that Adobe has been at the top of this industry. Time for someone else to compete? This is a highly frustrating issue for UI and web designers.

  • New to photoshop, looking for advice on creating a stencil design, can anyone explain how to do this

    Heya,
So I'm hoping to get back into photoshop, my knowledge at the moment is pritty minimal, but i'm going to start learning how to use it again.
I'm new to this forum and don't intend to come on here often for advice but i hope that someone would be kind enough to point me in the direction that i'm looking for, i would be very grateful.
Firstly, i haven't yet decided which adobe photoshop product is best suited for what i'm looking for and i aim to go and explore the trials first to find out.
I'm looking to create designs with software that doesn't really have any limits in terms of creating designs.
I was wondering if someone could give me some links to a tutorial or something that explains how to create the stencilling effect in the image that is seen as a tree with a cityscape in the background, and possibly the other effects seen on the t-shirt. I know it might be a lot to ask but it would really mean a lot if someone could explain how you create effects like this.
    Here's the image:http://www.gifts.com/products/Kohls/Mudd-Tree-Tee?p=6886:1945256129:35
I know that the image is small, it was the best i could currently find, i hope that you can still see it well enough.
    Thank you in advance
    I really appreciate it!!

First you may want to google »photoshop tutorial distresssed«.
As for combining images like that a combination of Blend If-settings (one can split the handles by alt-click-dragging them)), Layer Groups set to Blend Modes other than Pass Through and Grtadient Maps may be employed to maintain high editability.
One could also just use the images as Layer Masks for Solid Color Layers (and use Levels or Curves to get the intended contrast), though.

  • Is Illustrator (or Photoshop) the best path for this design project?

    Hello,
Forgive my ignorance on this issue.
I am thinking about creating a number of large banners (8 feet high by 3 feet wide) for a display.
I would like to take some scanned images of some historical mural paintings (out of copyright) and prepare them for large format printing.
Now these images are small, and probably quite poor in resolution. I would like to prepare (enhance?) these images so that they show fairly well on the large banners.
Furthermore, I will probably add some borders around them or at least some kind of neutral-colour field on the top and bottom of the image--so the actually printed image will probably be around 4 feet fight by 3 feet wide.
I thought about hiring a designer, but I would like to pick up the skills to do this myself, as I anticipate more banners in the future, and it would be good to learn this skill.
Willing to do take some courses in the appropriate software, and make this my first project perhaps.
Is Illustrator or Photoshop better for this? Or is there something else?
Thank you for any guidance you can offer.

    markerline,
You may look at it this way (literally):
The crucial aspect is the relation between viewing distance and size.
The required number of actual pixels is proportional to the actual size and reversely proportional to the viewing distance.
In other words: if you look at a poster (or whatever) twice the size at twice the distance, exactly the same number of pixels is required.
In yet other words: if you view the artwork at a combination of size and distance that correspond to those intended for the final poster, you can see how it will appear.
In yet other words: the same proportion between size and distance results in the same viewing angle, so if your viewing angle is the same, whatever the size, you see what the final viewer sees.
This means that you may judge the artwork on screen or in small/moderate size print if you view it at the intended angle/relative distance.
The required resolution in PPI/DPI will then be reversely proportional to the size of the artwork while you work on it (10 times greater for a 1:10 scale and so on).
Obviosly, in addition, there are other concerns about required resolution (including which resolution is really effective in connexion with the kind of printing in question, and the desirability of smoothness versus roughness which depends on the artwork/effect/whatever in question). I believe you know all that.

Adobe Illustrator.  Your company logo should be a vector file.  Image files can be "Placed" in Illustrator.  Artwork created for printing can be drawn in Illustrator and saved as .ai, .eps, and .pdf files which can be imported into your printer's RIP.  But, check with your print vendors and see what they require.  This does not rule-out Photoshop, however Photoshop can be limited.  So, it would be a good idea to have Photoshop and Illustrator loaded in your workstation with Illustrator being the go-to application.

How do I design my posters on Photoshop touch for ipad, to be A0 and export them to creative cloud at the same size???
every time I do it it comes out at a fraction of the size and not even an A size...
    Please help

A0 is pretty big if you go at a high DPI for printing. It's about 10000 x 14000 pixels at 300 DPI.
PS Touch can handle about 12 Megapixel image imports (which is about 4000 x 3000 pixels). PS Touch, interestingly, can create 4096 x 4096 pixel projects from scratch.
Adding to that, PS Touch always exports at 72 DPI. Take note that this is probably due to tablet hardware. Tablet hardware is "getting there" but it still has a ways to go before it matches its desktop cousin.

I have just started to use Muse for our design agency and learning how to build ourselves a new site, I have managed to create a basic lightbox which contains sliding images, what I need to do now is have a pop up window which goes into detail about the projects, what I would like is a piece of text  or icon that when you roll over it and then click a separate window pops up with additional information in, once finished reading the info you can then click to close the box, any advice on how to do this?

The best way to do what you're asking is with the Composition widget. Start with the Tooltip preset, which, by default shows the info on rollover. You can change the option to show on click, which is what you're after. You can also add the close button or have the info disappear on rollout.

Sounds like it's a problem with the Acrobat settings. Did you set them to the same resolution?

  • Tools Panel missing in Photoshop CS6 for Mac

I have been using Photoshop CS6 for Mac for about 6 mths. now.  When I opened it yesterday to work on some photos, I noticed that my tools panel that is always located on the left side of my screen had disappeared.  I have been unable to locate it anywhere.  Also, the top of my photoshop page looks different.  Any assistance that I could get would be greatly appreciated.

There is no free version of CS2.  There is only a special version of CS2 available for people who purchased it and need to reinstall it.

  • Why isn't JPG an option for opening an image in Photoshop?

When Photoshop is chosen as the external editor, you only have a choice of TIFF or PSD as the file format. So when I wanted to make a small change to a 3 MB jpeg image in Photoshop, it came back into Aperture as a 40 MB alternate master file. This is crazy! I can't afford enough disk space for 40 MB files every time I want to modify an image in Photoshop! Am I missing something here?

The idea at work here is that Aperture is a non-destructive editor, and that you don't degrade your image quality until the final export. If you go to JPEG mid process and then make more edits then do a final export as JPEG, you're degrading your images twice... Pretty much any type of editing will occur at a higher quality in PSD or TIFF than in JPEG, even if you can't always notice it.
If you don't want to dedicate the disk space to those versions permanently, all you have to do is sort your project by file size within Aperture after you've done your final export, then delete the TIFFs/PSDs, which will naturally float to the top. If you put a lot of work in them, burning a DVD of them before losing them would be a good idea.
This is really "best practices," and as such Aperture is doing the right thing.
