Image Placeholder for Reader

I am trying to create a printable form in Acrobat X that will allow a user to replace a photo/logo with their own. I would like them to be able to click on an image in Reader that opens up a "browse for image" window that will replace the current image. I am assuming this is a custom javascript in the forms actions section.
Here is an example of what I am trying to accomplish: http://youtu.be/FIiF1WZ8Veo In this screencast, they do it at about 3:10 into the video. I would appreciate anyone who knows how to obtain this result.

Those PDF forms are almost certainly created with LiveCycle Designer, as opposed to Acrobat. Unfortunately, forms created in Acrobat do not allow you to create a graphic/image field that will work with Reader. LiveCycle Designer allows you to add image fields to a form, but it is not included with the Mac version of Acrobat like it is with the Windows version.
This is where I insert my plea to post a feature request to bring this functionality back to Reader. You can add to this one and/or create your own: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/743823?tstart=0

  • How do you use a photo as a placeholder for a video in ibooks author?

I am having trouble in ibooks author, I am trying to use a still photo as the place holder for a video, so what I want to do is when you click on the picture, a video will start playing. If anyone knows how to do it, please let me know, thanks!

iBooks Author lets you use an image, such as a .PNG (even one with transparency) as a poster image for your video. When tapped, this image will open your video in full-screen mode.
To do this, first drag your video file onto the page in iBooks Author to create a video widget. Select the widget and, in the Inspector panel under the Widget options, choose the Interaction tab, and check "Full-screen only" (Note: Using a separate image as a placeholder will only work if this option is checked).
Next, simply find the photo file you'd like to use as your poster image—it can be any file, not necessarily a frame from your video—and drag it over the video widget on the page until you see the edges highlighted in blue, and release. That image is now the placeholder for the video, and when tapped it will launch your video in full-screen mode.

  • Image placeholder - how not to stretch images by default

    Captivate 8.0.1.242 - Windows 7
How do I make the image placeholder to not to stretch images by default and rather when I add the image using the + symbol, it should maintain the aspect ratio of the image and resize only based on either width or height?
Or still maintain aspect ratio of the image but crop of the excess beyond the current placeholder size.
I want this by default as when I create my courses, my images vary in aspect ratios and sizes quite a bit. Thus investing time on each image through "edit image" in the properties isn't efficient.

Do you have any suggestions for what I can do instead? I just don't want to spend couple of minutes for each picture which obviously gets multiplied for each of the 3 different responsive views. This is lead to hours wasted for each course work. Am I forced to find only pictures of same aspect ratio and size for the future or is there any workaround?

  • Album artwork placeholder for podcast page

I think when creating my podcast page that I accidently deleted the original placeholder for the album artwork. Since I have 2 episodes already posted and uploaded to Mobile Me I didn't want to recreate a whole new podcast page... So I added a new podcast page, then copied and pasted it's placeholder into my original podcast page, then deleted the new podcast page. That didn't work. When I try to submit to iTunes, instead of showing the artwork, it shows a big question mark.
Is there any way to fix this or do I just need to recreate the page from the ground up?
    Any tips much appreciated... Thanks!

Here's my e-mail reply to a similar question I recieved this week:
I tried to see what happened. It turns out that pasting a new image from a other blog does not replace the preview.
    So we have to cheat.
Create a new blog article and give it the same date & time. In the blog summary double click the date of the line at the top. First of the old article to see the time/date stamp and then the new one to change the date.
Then copy paste the text from the old article to the new one.
If you have the image, drop it on the placeholder. If not, got to your blog on the web and drop the image from the webpage on top of the iWeb page.
You now have a new blog entry. Delete the old entry. You will loose any comments.
When commenters ask what happended to their comment, make up an excuse. Blame the MobileMe transition
Hope that works for your too.

  • Image placeholder not working in internet explorer

I'm using DreamweaverMX and I used the swap image behavior to make thumbnails appear in a larger placeholder below. When I load the site in Firefox the thumbnails come up and when you click them it displays properly below. However when I open it in internet explorer the placeholder shows up on the screen prior to clicking thumbnails with a red X in the corner. This is a problem because there is more than one placeholder for the different orientations and they are showing up on the page. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

That is correct behavior for IE - unlike FF, it will display the broken image icon when the image is missing.
You might consider simply starting with a transparent.gif which you dimension the the needed size.

  • How can I get Messages to show the correct time for read receipts?

Messages in Mountain Lion shows the wrong time for read receipts. For example, my iPad will show a message was read at 3:37 pm but if I open Messages on my MacBook, the read receipt shows the time that I opened the Messages app as opposed to the time the message was actually read. This is not too much of an issue if my iPad is handy, but really, shouldn't Messages on my MacBook be able to show the correct time the message was read? It syncs all the other infromation with Messages on iOs.
I should mention that if Messages is running on my MacBook when the recipient reads the message, then it does show the correct time the message was read. It's if Messages was not running and I re-launch it that the read receipt time gets mixed up.

    HI,
As far as I am aware Messages marks or time stamps an iMessage at the time of receipt rather then the time you got around to reading it.
I will admit that in most cases reading and receiving as the app opens will be near enough the same time in some conversations.
Adding Time Stamps to Chat is what iChat has always done particularly with AIM based Chats.
The "Sync" in Messages is "display on all devices"  and after that each iMessages is dealth with separately on each device.
There is no syncing of deleting/dimssing an iMessages or having read it on another device.

I've just bought a Macbook Pro 15" and I'm trying to use Photoshop, but the resolution its displaying the images at for 100% are too small. I have to design for the web, so need to be intricate with detail, but I'm finding it adjusts the resolution of the image right down. (I mean you can see the image clearly, but it's too small to edit). When I look at Safari and see a web page at 100% it's clear, but the same page displayed in Photoshop CC appears 50% of the size (even though it says it's 100%)   If I move the application window to another screen it adjusts it correctly  – leaving all the pallettes, menus and tools correctly sized as they are on the retina display   Is there some way to adjust the way Photoshop CC displays images so it is more consistent with what you actually see?   There doesn't seem to be any answer on the Adobe forum, so hopefully someone here can shed some light.  MacBook Pro with Retina display, 15", OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), Photoshop CC 2014

I tested both ways. With "open in low resolution" ckecked the size of the images is cool, but it is low-resolution including Photoshop appearance.
If "open in low resolution" is unckecked the appearance is good but the very small size.
See the image below. It has 650 x 732 px, 72 dpi. The font of the text "Neste aniversário ..." is with 18pt.

  • Problems displaying an image on Adobe Reader 8.1.2

    Hi guys,
We are trying to display a JPG image in an InteractiveForm. So, we set an Image (StaticImage) to be loaded using the following Formcalc script on Page Initialize event:
    StaticImage1.value.image.href = $record.ImageURL
On our last project, we could display a JPG image with Adobe Reader 6 (with some alert messages), 7 and 8 (7 and 8 fully functional). But in this one, the same solution doesn't work. The unique difference between both solutions is the URL format. Last project displays an image based on a normal URL ("http://app.client.com/photo/1234.jpg"), and in the current project we create a PNG or JPG image based on a JFreeChart, generating an URL to access it ("http://server1:54321/webdynpro/resources/vendor.com/..(long)../graph43211234.jpg").
When we load it using a computer with Adobe Reader 7.0.x installed, the bellow message is displayed requesting an action:
"Acrobat is attempting to connect to the site:
    http://server1:54321/webdynpro/resources/vendor.com/..(long)../graph43211234.jpg
If you trust the site click "Allow", otherwise click "Block".
Possible actions: Block, Allow and a check "Remember my action for the site: server1"
Allowing the connection, the images are displayed. But, in a machine with Adobe Reader 8.1.2 installed, sometimes it asks for permission to access the URL, sometimes not. And, in both cases, in this version it doesn't display the images...
Can anyone shed any light on this? Also, is there a way to block this annoying message?
    Regards,
    Douglas Frankenberger
    P.S.:
1 - The Image is not marked as Embedded. This option don't seems to make any difference, as on our last project the StaticImage was not flaged as Embed, but the JPG file was embeded in the PDF anyway...
2 - Interactive Form display type: native. Mode: updateDataInPDF
3 - In current project, when we set the same image the we had set on the old project, it loads successfully. Also, the generated JFreeChart image is fully accessible when displayed directly in IE using its URL.
    4 - Versions:
      - Client: Windows XP Professional
      - NWDS 7.0.10
      - Adobe Livecycle 7.0.50519.0
      - Adobe Reader: 7.0.8, 7.0.9 and 8.1.2

    Hi Amita.
We already tried it (checked / unchecked), but it seems to make no difference. There is a strange behavion on this:
    - When I set it checked, on a computer disconnected from the web and running Adobe Reader 7.0.9, it asks for permission to access a resource (as I said before). In this case, even disconnected, it shows up my image independent of allowing/blocking the access to the external resource. In other words, it is embedded (I think...), but continues asking for access anyway.
    - The same scenery above, but using Adobe Reader 8.1.2 instead of 7.0.9.... sometimes it asks for permission, sometimes not. But in both cases, it doesn't display the images...

  • Recommended Image Size for Contact Pictures?

    Hi All,
I want to edit up some family members to attach thier images to my iPhone contacts... Does anyone know what the preferred resolution size is for the iPhone for optimal appearance?
I've tried to do this with outlook before, and I hate the way it dithers the images to a low quality.... I'm hoping that the iPhone doesn't do this and so I wanted to experiment with how they would appear...
But instead of making the images just any random size, I wanted to crop them to the preferred image/pixel size so that my photoshopped images look like what I expect them to show up like...
If you could advise with the documented or known pixel resolution size used by the iPhone it would be appreciated!

Thanks, but I don't believe that the contacts come up full screen do they?
Usually there is a optimal image size for certain things like contact photos and I am just trying to help ensure that all my photos are the same size and don't vary...
I might be a little carried away with how I am formatting them, but just hoping someone already knows this answer!

  • Create a PDF form to allow users to upload an image in Adobe Reader?

    Heres my MAC workflow.
    CS4 Indesign > Acrobat Pro 9 >
Forms > Add Edit Form Fields
then I create a button. (where I want the image placed)
    Options > Icon Only, Push
    Action > Run Javascript
    event.target.buttonImportIcon();
    Extend features for Reader.
    But no joy.
The image will upload in Pro
But I get an Error in reader
NotAllowedError: Security Settings prevent access to this property.
Really, it seem like an image upload would be such a standard requirement?
anyway how can I make this happen?
or if I am fighting a losing battle, tell me to quit wasting my time.
Small company, an enterprising solution is not in the budget.
    Thanks!

You're fighting a losing battle, at least if you want to use a button for this. It is silly that they restrict Reader this way, and I always urge folks to submit a feature request in the hope that it may get restored in the future. You used to be able to do this with Reader, but they took it away. You can add to my feature request I made (again) last year: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/743823
The best you can do with Reader now is to Reader-enable the form. This will allow the user to be able to paste an image that they somehow manage to get copied to the clipboard onto a page in the form of a stamp. You just have to instruct them how to copy an image to the clipboard. They are allowed to resize, move, and rotate, which is less than ideal.
The other option is to attach a file as a comment, though the image is not then visible on screen, but at least it gets included in the document and is easily accessible to the recipient.
The final option is to create the form using LiveCycle Designer, which is available with the Windows version of Acrobat Pro but not the Mac. It has an image field that allows the user to select an image, much as with a button in Acrobat. The fact that you can do it with an XFA form but not an AcroForm makes this restriction even sillier.

  • Can I add or edit images in a Reader Extended PDF?

Can a Acrobat Reader add or update an image in a Reader Extended editable pdf?

    Hi tms5656,
Adding or editing an image isn't something that you can do in Adobe Reader, whether the PDF is Reader Extended, or not. But, you can do that in Acrobat. And, you're welcome to try Acrobat for free for 30 days, if you would like. See www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html for more information.

  • Problems with Image Capture for Epson Scanner

When using image capture for my Epson scanner, at the Image Correction, when I select Manual I get no menu options.

There is no Epson scanner utility for Mountain Lion, it appears. Even Epson's FAQ defers to Image Capture and says it only provides software for image modification.
    http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&info Type=FAQ&oid=207953&foid=214278&cat=214269&subcat=214264
Unfortunately Image Capture completely fails to provide the service it should be expected to. The 3rd party software VueScan seems like it would be adequate once I learned how to manipulate it a little more, but ultimately the only decision I can justify is to hook up the scanner to my Windows PC and use the TWAIN-based scan utility there.
If there's anywhere I can make an official plea to Apple to get Image Capture in a workable state, feel free to point the way.

  • How to improve image quality for book

I recently had a book printed from iPhoto 9 (large, hardcover) and the images in the book seem dull and dark compared to the actual images. For example, in one image of a church taken at dusk you can clearly see the outline of the church, including some details, and even people in front of it - but in the book, this area is completely black. I have had books printed before from iPhoto8 and had been happy with the past results.
Apple is refunding my purchase and letting me submit the book again, but told me if I don't edit the photos, I may have the same issue (though they also said it could have been a printer issue that day). Customer support did agree that the image quality itself is good. So, my question is, before I resubmit this book - in general, what attributes or combination of attributes are best to change to make the images more vibrant and not dark when printed for the book (ie. increase color saturation and exposure?)
    Thank you.

Thanks. I did indeed preview the book before, and I have followed their tips. As, I said, I have purchased several books in the past and no issue. Apple even sent a couple pictures back to me as an attachment to show what they received, and they matched what I sent, but NOT what was printed. What printed is definitely much darker and in many cases you can't even make out the detail that you could in the images (including the ones they sent back to me for comparison). Maybe the printer really was off. I'll try a few enhancements and try again.
