Image problems when importing modified Iphoto pictures to aperture 3

I seem to have a bit of strange problem with modified pictures after they are imported in A3.
I am using Iphoto 8.1.1 and have just bought Aperture 3. I decided to import all my iphoto pictures using the import iphoto library function.
I noticed that all images that had (in iphoto) been edited using the retouch function to reduce blemishes have problems in Aperture. The problem appears to be where the brush was used is now pixilated in that area and it just looks like a cluster of "noise". This only seems to happen when I used the import iphoto library. I tried to replicate the issue importing some of the same pictures individually and there was no issue. Than I made a new library tried to import iphoto library and same issue ones again. Exporting the picture out of aperture keeps this error. It's quite a worry as I have several hundred of these pictures and I am not sure what to do. Any suggestions?
Please have a look at the links below for an example of before and after import.
http://files.me.com/dan_801/rlebic (the original file)
http://files.me.com/dan_801/s0zn6d (after importing into A3)

ok quick update - I opened up the aperture library in finder and located the image. The master appears to be the correct image but in Aperture itself it's showing a different image. The picture in Aperture appears to be pointing to the preview directory within the library structure. I tried re building the review and thumb and same issue again. When I export from aperture it also seems to export the preview version as oppose to the master. How do i fix this issue

  • Wrong capture time when importing from iPhoto to FCPX

I am experiencing a strange problem when importing from iPhoto to FCPX. If I open the info panel in iPhoto I see the real date/time when the picture was taken, but if I import them to an event in FCPX using the PHotos Browser and I check the info it shows the time when the image was imported to IPhoto and everything gets messed up.
I have search for somebody with same problem but I have not found anything so far.
MY workaround is to import directy onto the timeline, but it is... well, a workaround.
    Thanks in advance

Why is knowing that important during the edit?
Yes, FCP only shows the date imported" date metadata.  Future updates of FCP X I assume will add more metadata support, such as Creation Date and Modification Date, since metadata is vital to FCP X and there are some metadata handling features that are on the way.

  • I can't access my pictures anymore through iPhoto because I simply don't know where they are stored when imported into iPhoto. The library used automatically before is not shown anymore. Can anyone help me to recover all my pictures?

I had some problems with my MacbookPro and did some clean up and further back-up (time machine already in place for a long time). Now, suddenly I can't access my pictures anymore through iphoto asking me for a library (never asked for before) and I have no clue where the pictures are actually saved when imported in iphoto. Can anyone help me recover my pictures, such as telling me WHERE the pictures are actually stored? Thank you so much!

A critical question - exactly what "clean up" did you do and how?
Do you have an iPhoto library in yoru pictures folder? If you depress and hold the option key and launch iPhoto - what do you see in the select library window? Select each library there and see what you have

  • How can i import my iphoto pictures on my older macbook pro 17 into my iphone

How can i import my iphoto pictures on my older macbook pro 17 into my iphone. I can see my device icon on iphoto but no icloud capability nor can I select and  drag my pics into my device (iphone 5).

when your phone is plugged in, on itunes you click your device. and on the device summary page, there are 4-5 tabs. one of the tabs is photos. you can choose the photos file you want to add to your phone there.

  • Get an error message when importing from iPhoto says, "There is not enough free space on your Aperture Library volume to import the selected items. It is estimated that you need at least 44GB of free space."

I get an error message when importing from iPhoto that says, "There is not enough free space on your Aperture Library volume to import the selected items. It is estimated that you need at least 44GB of free space." the drive is empty, I just reformatted it to Mac OSX journaled.

I'm guessing this is an extrenal drive, correct? If so make sure the library you're importimng into is really located on the external drive. By default Aperture creates its library in your home pictures folder.

  • Library more than doubles in size when importing form iPhoto

I imported my iPhoto Library into Aperture using the standard import setting, only to find that the size of the Aperture Library is about 90GB whereas the original iPhoto library was a mere 38GB. Is there anything I can do to keep the Aperture library at about the same size as my original iPhoto library? More than doubling in size is just too much!

Hi Léonie, thanks again for the detailed advise! I checked both my iPhoto Library and my Aperture Library and they are almost idendical as to the number of photos they show (22.424 photos in iPhoto, 22.884 photos in Aperture - and that's due to some new photos I have imported into Aperture since I imported my iPhoto Library to Aperture). Also, when following your advise to disply photos sorted by date, I only find very few duplicates in my Aperture Library (probably just a few dozen).
Searching for stray images, I only get 104 photos listed that seem to be not properly imported into iPhoto.
What's strange, though, I kept the folder-structure that I had created for my photos before I even started using iPhoto and where I had always put copies of the photos that I had imported into iPhoto Library (call it paranoia or whatever, but I neve fully trusted iPhoto that it would hold all my valuable photos safe ...). So there I have originals of all my photos and this folder is a full 70GB of data - as opposed to the 38GB of my iPhoto Library which has almost the exact number of photos as my folder-structure does.
So I essentially have the following:
    - iPhoto Library with 22.424 photos and 38GB
    - Aperture Library with 22.884 photos and 90GB
    - A folder-structure where I hold duplicates of all my photos outside of iPhoto and Aperture (and NO, I don not use iPhoto nor Aperture as referenced databases) with 22.512 objects and a total of 69,44GB of data.
Anything else you could think of? I'm lost the more I dive into this ...
    Rgds, Berthold

I'm assuming you have Photo Stream set up of both devices.  However, it seems many users are experiencing the same as you - my take is that streaming photos is not foolproof yet.

  • FK DELETE RULE problem when importing 8i SCHEMA on 10g

    Hi everyone,
    I´m having the following problem:
When importing a SCHEMA dump from an 8i database to a 10g one, some foreign key´s delete rule are changed from 'no action' to 'set null' automatically, even though the whole SCHEMA was imported.
Has anyone ever had the same problem?
    Thanks a lot,
    Bruno

I did some more research and I think I was completely misunderstanding Oracle's implementation of delete rules. Now I believe that Oracle implements the "RESTRICT" option in SQL Developer Data Modeler as "No Action", which is the default option, hence why no DDL option is generated. However, it would still be nice if Data Modeler could detect this fact when comparing two models. What I mean it, if comparing an Oracle DB to a model, treat Restrict and No Action as the same, and thus don't attempt to re-generate the DDL for this "difference". For now, I'll just change the action on my models to No Action, and this should resolve the issue.

  • Audio problem when importing video files.

    Hello everyone,
I just started using FCP X a few days ago for a university project and I seem to encounter an audio problem when importing videos in .mp4, .mov format or via the import from camera option.
Indeed I need to import videos in .mp4 and .mov format into FCP X. The import in itself is normal I can see my videos into the events/clips library and if I play them from the library I can hear the sound quite perfectly.
However, when I want to edit my videos and put it in the timeline, there is no audio. As a result I started to think that my videos could be the problem so I tried the option "import from camera" option using the Isight camera of my macbook pro but the same things happened. I could hear the sound from the events/clips library but not from the timeline (I can't see any audiowaves in the timeline).
I found a solution using quicktime and extracting the audio of the video in .m4a then importing the videos files and the audi files corresponding but it's a long process and a waste of time  as FCP X should be able to import the audio of my video into the timeline directly. Especially if it can read it from events/clips library.
I hope I explained myself clearly and you could help me resolve my problem.
    Cheers
    Christophe
    PS: I'm using FCP X version 10.0

    Update to 10.0.5.
You have an incorrect setting when you edit. Try trashing your preferences. Post screen shots of your timeline and toolbar.

  • Unable to open iphoto pictures in aperture

I've moved my files from a mac mini to a macbook pro using time machine.   I previously had my iphoto pictures linked to aperture.  Now in aperture, when I'm in faces I can see the faces for all of my photos, both iphoto and aperture.  However, when I go to an iphoto event via aperture in the browser pane I can see outlines of the iphoto pictures and file names, but on the image its self.  If I click on one of the images the picture does not come up and there is an icon that looks like a picture or folder with a red slash through it.  When I go into iPhoto all of the pictures are there.  So, it appears there is a linkage problem between Aperture and the iPhoto library.  Does anyone know how I can restore getting to my iPhoto pictures from Aperture?  I'm hesitant to reimport as I don't want to duplicate everything.
    Thanks
    Doug in NC

Is this the badge you are referring to? That is telling you that the images referenced master is offline.  You will need to try to reconnect the masters using File->Locate Referenced Files.
Take a look at the manual for this before going ahead with it. See Working with Referenced Images

  • Newbie question - synchronizing iPhoto picture with Aperture

Hello everyone. Sorry to pop a somewhat ******** person but I'm unable to find the straight-forward answer from the forum so here I go.
I just installed Aperture 3, and was able to import the iPhoto picture albums. However, when I make picture modifications from Aperture, or import new pictures in iPhoto, both applications do not sync up. Is there a way that both Aperture, and iPhoto, can syncrhonize the changes? I'm new to this, so please pardon my ******** question.

    Hi Terence,
Thanks for the clarification. I thought Aperture works like a plug-in for providing more editing flexibility.
Now, did I do it right by "importing" the iPhoto pictures? or there's a different way (if any) that I should have done? What I've been doing in the past, is the ability to share iPhoto album with my wife on the same iMac. When I make changes or additions from my user profile, my wife can see those changes from her profile and vice versa. Will Aperture give me the same flexibility?
Thank you all for your time and feedback. I appreciate it.

  • Could someone please help me import my iphoto photos into aperture?  They are now just referenced files.

    Hello,
I am a longtime iphoto user and installed aperture this past december.  At that time I imported all my iphoto photos as referenced files and kept them in their iphoto location.  Since that time, every photo I took was uploaded directly into aperture and stored there.  I am now comfortable enough with aperture that I would like to use it as my primary photo viewer / manipulator and would like to merge my two libraries into one single aperture library.  Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to do this.
I tried consolidating all originals yesterday, however this did not seem to have any effect.  I then tried reimporting my iphoto library, however, this simply duplicated many of my events (and the duplicated ones were not even adjustable via aperture, and each photo had a little exclamation point in the lower right corner).  Both of these attempts did nothing to combine my aperture projects and my iphoto events (which are now seen as a seperate iphoto tab under projects).  I am aware that I can now switch to my iphoto library within aperture in version 3.3, but I just want everything stored in one place and in my aperture library.  Can someone please help me with this?
The only thing I can think of is deleting all of the iphoto events from aperture and then reimporting them, but I am scared I will either delete something permenantly or that they will simply reimport as referenced files and remain within iphoto.
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    - Mike

    Mike,
I am not quite clear about the current state of your iPhoto and Aperture libraries. It looks like you have plenty of broken links to referenced masters in either library. Whatever you do now, it is very important to ensure that you have a working backup, both of your iPhoto Library and your Aperture library, before you try a major reconstruction.
I tried consolidating all originals yesterday, however this did not seem to have any effect.
In what way did it not have any effect? From the effects you are describing, it looks like all your original master images have been removed from the iPhoto Library and are now inside the Aperture library as managed masters - at least, this would explain, why trying to import the iPhoto library resulted in duplicated projects (and the duplicated ones were not even adjustable via aperture, and each photo had a little exclamation point in the lower right corner). You removed the original masters from the iPhoto library, and now you could not import it, since the originals are now in Aperture.
For me it looks, like you simply need to delete the iPhoto images marked with an exclamation mark, for these are already bound to images that you imported earlier. It is perfectly o.k. that the recently imported iPhoto Library appears in a separate section of the projects in your Library Inspector Panel. Each iPhoto event should appear as a project. Aperture will put them there, so you can find them easily.
You should check now, if the originally imported images, that you imported as referenced, are now managed. If you enable badge overlays you should see no longer any arrows on the thumbnails of your earlier imports. Also, if you select one of these images, you should be able to toggle between original master and version by typing the "M" key.
Define some smart albums (File > New > Smart album) based on the file status: Add a rule: File status is.
One smart album: File Status is referenced
One smart album: File Status is managed
One smart album: File Status is missing
The first album should be empty.
The second album should show all your images you originally imported from iphoto as managed, and that you recently consolidated.
The third album should show your recent import - the images imported from iPhoto after you consolidated the originals to Aperture and removed these images from iPhoto.
Post back, when you have checked the file status of your images in Aperture and we can be sure were the images are exactly.

    Léonie
