Image quality after opening from camera RAW

Why does the image quality seem to get worse in Elements 11 once the image is opened up after editing from Camera RAW?  The image looks great in the RAW screen, then once opened in Photo editor it seems pixelated, smooth lines look jagged.  Is it something I am doing wrong?

  • Image Skips when Returning from Camera Raw to Bridge

    Hi Folks
When I finished editing my image in Camera Raw and returned to Bridge I could immediately view my edits in the Bridge preview window. As it took about a second to update I could see the unedited image and then the updated edited image. Happy with that!
Now, when I return to Bridge I do not get the image I have just been working on in Camera Raw in the preview window as before, it jumps to the next image which is a bit of a pain, because I have to keep going back to the previous image.
May I kindly ask if anyone knows whether this is a setting somewhere in Bridge / Camera Raw and how I can get to it, or have any idea why this is happening. any information would be gratefully received.
Thanking you in advance for your anticipated help!

As has often and repeatedly been discussed in the Adobe Bridge Macintosh forum, Bridge 2.x (that comes with CS3) is easily the worst piece of software that has ever been released by Adobe—or any other major software developer.
Bridge 3.x (with CS4) was better.  I have no experience with Bridge in CS5.
If you're staying with CS3, at least make sure that you have updated to version 2.1.1.9.

  • How to open images in Fill Screen mode from Camera Raw

I am using Photoshop CS4 for Windows. I created an action that executes Fit on Screen and set the Scripts Event Manager to execute that action on the Open Document event. This works when opening a document from Photoshop.
    Here are my questions:
    1) After opening a raw image from Bridge in Camera Raw, when I then open the image in Photoshop, it does not run the Open Document event action to Fit on Screen. What event do I need to set the action to execute on when opening an image from Camera Raw in Photoshop?
    2) I added Fit on Screen to the action by selecting Insert Menu Item from the Actions menu and then selecting View-Fit on Screen. I cannot find Fill Screen on any pull-down menu (the button found on the Hand tool bar). How can I insert the Fill Screen item (which fills the screen a little more than Fit on Screen?
    3) In the Scripts Events Manager, when you select Add an Event, it says Any scriptable event can be entered here. See the Scripting Reference for the full list of Photoshop event names.. On the following Adobe webpage, I found the Adobe Photoshop CS4 Scripting Guide but I did not find a list of Photoshop event names in that document. Where can I find the list of Photoshop event names?

  • 16 bit/14bit nefs opening in P/S from camera raw 5.2 as 8 bit images

I am downloading 16 bit nefs (D300) from card reader with cs4 bridge. In bridge I can check the meta data and see that they are 16bit but when I open in camera raw 5.2 then do the open file in photoshop form there they open as 8bit files instead of 16bit as I expected. I tryed the convert to dng on the import and get same 8bit results. I am using windows xp pro. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? I have slow dial up here so do not have my work photoshop computer hooked to net for help files from bridge and photoshop. Also have Shewes new real world camera raw and his deal with Martin Eweing preordered from amazon but don't know when they will come.

    >I'm having trouble understanding the jargon though. Are you saying that the sensor data is read more slowly in 14-bit, which reduces the noise floor? and that is is only of any benefit when used at the lowest noise ISO (ie 200)?
Yeah that is basically the idea. A different read-out path or set of amplifiers is used or it is simply "read slower" which can, in principle, reduce noise. Not something that is inherent to 14 vs 12 bits but more to the way the data is read. If the noise stayed the same and it is in the lower 2 bits of the 12 bits converter, there is no point as the only thing you're doing is more precisely imaging the noise. If however, the noise goes down a little going to the 14-bit readout method, you might get better signal to noise ratios and hence more shadow detail. This is all theory, and if you actually do the test with your camera, you'll see there is no difference in real world photos. The shadows would need to be really deep to see any of this. Basically you need to be boosting exposure by 3 or 4 stops AND applying shadow fill near 100. Not a realistic situation. To see it, you indeed need to be at a situation where the noise floor is significantly low, which means low ISOs on most cameras. At high ISO, there could be a difference because of differences in amplifiers, etc, but in practice that is not the case either on this camera. Other sources of noise drown it out completely.
    >Is there no other benefit to post-processing? I'm not clear where the extra 2 bits go; is it increased resolution over the same dynamic range, or is the dynamic range extended? Is this not also a factor in choosing 14 over 12?
There could be some benefit if the noise characteristics were significantly different. Lower noise means higher dynamic range and therefore better capability to extract detail from shadow areas. However, from my testing, in practice this does not happen on the D300. Other cameras might well show higher dynamic range and better detail in shadows at 14 bits. You can see some of this by looking at the dynamic Range charts on DxOmark.com where sensors of different cameras are tested. You need to be significantly above 11 to 12 EV for 14 bit capture to make a difference.
    >Sorry if this is a bit off-topic, but you have to grab experts when you find some
The easiest thing is to test it. In realistic scenarios, I just cannot see any difference. If you contrive a completely weird case, such as underexposing an entire image by 8 stops, or pushing up shadows by as many stops, you can get into the range where it might make a difference. Those are just not real situations though.

  • How do you open more than one image at a time in Camera Raw?

We used to be able to select more than one image from a folder and process one after the other in camera raw. Now we can only do one at a time. Is there a secret keyboard short-cut to allow this still?

Which operating system are you using?
One should still be able to open multiple files into camera raw.
Camera raw files. tiffs and jpegs.
If in the pse 13 Editor in the Expert mode you go to File>Open in Camera Raw, you aren't able to open more than one file into camera raw?

  • Photoshop cs4 opens images black and only in camera raw

I'm running Photoshop cs4 on a pc. Recently, it began having 2 issues. First, it started opening everything into Bridge Camera Raw instead of just opening the image itself. Next issue is that when I attempt to open an image from Camera Raw, it opens black. I can see the image is there in a layer, but the working screen is black. Every once in a while it will open normally. This is with all images, no matter what size the are.

On a Mac I don't know which directory it should be in.
Camera Raw preferences: Bridge: menu Adobe Bridge/ Camera Raw preferences.
Inhere you can set the wished behavior for tiff. By default it shows tiffs
only in ACR when you choose to do so with right mouse click menu (open in
Camera Raw) or if the Tiff had earlier been altered in ACR, then it opens
automatically in ACR unless you choose not to do so.

RAW images in Lightroom aren't opening in camera raw in Photoshop.  Instead, I have to open the image in Finder before it will open in Camera Raw in Photoshop.  How can I correct that?

Your question is a little unclear. In a "normal" Lightroom/Photoshop workflow the raw images do not open from Lightroom into Camera Raw. Lightroom has all of the Camera Raw functionality in the develop module. When you choose to open an image in Photoshop, and Lightroom and Photoshop are synchronized (i.e. referencing the same version of Camera Raw) then Camera Raw is simply used to interpret the Lightroom adjustments as the image is transferred to Photoshop. If Camera Raw is an older version then Lightroom offers you the choice to open the image or create a PSD or TIF file that includes all of the Lightroom adjustments. But in either case, opening in Camera Raw is not part of the workflow. It is possible to open the image as a smart object or convert the image to the smart object in Photoshop and then open it in Camera Raw. That is done from within Photoshop or is one of the open options in Lightroom. If you choose to go the smart object route the image first has to be opened in Photoshop and then from there you can open it in Camera Raw.

  • Images open in camera raw 4.6, not Photoshop?

Since I downloaded & installed camera raw 4.6 to deal with raw images from my Nikon D90 I have had the following problem with Photoshop cs4 (on XP + SP3).
Any images I open from within bridge or Picasa or directly from windows explorer get opened in Adobe Raw 4.6. From their I have to open image to get it into photoshop. This applies to all images, jpg, gif, tiff, psd etc.
I've looked at the file associations & made sure photoshop is selected & I've tried open with & browsed to the photoshop directory & selecting the photoshop.exe file but always they open with the adobe raw.
How do I get this set back to default so that all regular images open in photoshop & raw images open in camera raw?
Lastly I tried deleting thus ressetting my prefferances, no good.
    Any help much appreciated.

Hello, I have a Mac computer with NVIDIA 750M dedicated graphics card and monitor EIZO but the problem was there when I was working with Windows and Acer monitor. When I open a file from Camera Raw in PS this is smaller than the screen so I double-click with the tool "hand" to fit on the screen, but the picture loses sharpness and becomes blurry. If you magnify the image even only slightly with the tool "zoom" the picture comes back clear. In Camera Raw instead is always sharp. I solve the problem by turning off the graphics card in PS but often use plugin that need the graphics card otherwise the processing time is much longer. I ask for help.
    Thanks.

  • My images are going from from camera raw to totally white in Photoshop CS6, I am using a Mac computer.

  • Tiff previously edited in ACR will not open in Camera RAW from Bridge

Yes, I have googled this and found instances going back to 2010 with no satisfactory answer. I have Photoshop 5.1 and the latest ACR and Bridge that work with it. 2011 MAC Mini 10.8.2.
I scanned a landscape oriented printed email image at 800 spi as a portrait orientation and saved it as a tiff. I opened this tiff in Preview and decided it needed more than minor tweaks so I opened it in ACR from Bridge, made a few adjustments and saved it. I thought I could see what I was doing better if it was in landscape orientation again so I opened it in Preview and rotated 90 deg CCW, saved it as a tiff. Going to Bridge I found Open in Camera Raw greyed out. I went back to Preview to see if I could get what I needed in its Tools while viewing it in landscape. Adjustments took forever this time, so I gave up and took a look at the image characteristics. Rotating in Preview had changed the image size to 3.3333...... times larger at 240 ppi still aRGB, still a tiff. This has never happened before, including slow adjustments
I duplicated the rotated file and changed it back to 800 ppi and normal size, went to Bridge, Camera Raw still greyed out. Original unrotated image
that had been edited in ACR and saved will still open in ACR.
All kinds of strange things have happened since updating to 10.8.2, but I don't think this is one of them because of the complaints I have seen that date back to 2010. I did a full maintenance routine, i e cleared RAM, reboot in single user with fsck -fy, repaired permissions, back up with SuperDuper which repairs permissions again. Then I tried Bridge again, original will open, rotated won't.
    Anyone know the answe?

The answer is that making edits in ACR and saving it creates layers in the tiff and Bridge will then not open it again in ACR unless you flatten it. I still don't know why Preview increased the image size by 3.333.....x or why ACR increased the tiff file size by 2.6x and why the flattened tiff is 2x the file size of the original scan but the image dimensions are the same. This stuff apparently is above the pay grade of anyone in google, too.
