Image Quality of Nikon D800 in CS5

Hi,
I initially had the issue with Photoshop CS5 not being able to recognize RAW files from my Nikon D800. I managed to sort-it-out by installing the RAW Plug in 6.7 hense now CS5 opens up the RAW files from D800.
However, now I'm faced with the different issue.  I see a significant drop of image quality when RAW s are opened in CS5. The images looking stunning with in D800 display screen looks very dull and flat when opened in CS5. No where close to the brillient colors shown in the D800 preview. Has anyone expirenced this, please?
I'd really appreciate you input to sort the issue out.
Many thanks in advance
Cheers
Deepal

The image you see in the display screen of the camera is a jpeg image (cameras can not display raw image).
And yes this is a common problem, as the raw image is just that, raw.  You have to adjust your settings in ACR to reflect your tastes and then set that as the default setting.

Are you having a problem? What have you tried? Do you have Apple's camera connection kit?
With the CCK, you can connect the camera or the camera's SD card.

  • I have Photoshop CS5 and am trying to download the Camera Raw plug in which will enable me to look at RAW images from a Nikon D800 . The download appears in my " Downloads " folder but when I try to open a RAW image I get a message up which says it can't

It appears the download has been successful when I look in my " Downloads " Folder but I still get a message up saying the installed version of Camera RAW won't support the Camera model ( i.e. D800 ) . What am I missing ??

You need to download and install Camera Raw 6.7.1 for CS5. Once you have downloaded it, you need to install it while CS5 is closed.
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Camera Raw 6.7.1 Update
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7.1 Update
Once downloaded, unzip/unpack the file, and run the executable to start the update, following the instructions.

  • Problem with image quality on screen in PS CS5

I just installed PhotoShop CS5 and opened up some images to edit. The first image I opened came up as completely black. I tried zooming in and out, but the display still looked all black. I opened up another image and I could see the image clearly if I was at 25%, 50% or 100%. If I was on any other zoom size I would get a very bad looking image like it had a very coarse screen over it. I opened another image that had the ugly screen patterns no matter what zoom size I was using. Does this have to do with any setting default? Do I have a problem with file conversions? We have one person in our design group that can run in 64bit mode. I am running in 32 bit mode. One of the images I opened was one that he edited in 64 bit mode.
Help this is frustrating. Any ideas on what to do?

    Thanks,
I tried turning off OpenGL and that didn't help.
Are you talking about looking for a new video driver from the Manufacturer of the video card I am using? If so do I just look for the newest driver, or should I be looking for something else.
Also, here are my computer stats:
    Windows Vista Business
    2 GB RAM
About 8 GB available out of 62 GB
Video card: ATI Mobility Radeon X1400

Tried installing Adobe patch installer- Adobe 7.1 update,
Update Failed- not applicable for me
    Still cannot read NEF files,
I would like to read NEF files from Nikon D800 in bridge and photoshop.
    Any suggestions?

The D800 is supported in Camera Raw 7.1 and higher
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
CS5 is not compatible with Camera Raw 7 and higher. You need CS6 (paid for upgrade or join the Adobe Cloud).
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
Or stay with CS5 and use the free DNG converter to convert all D800 Raw files to DNG then edit the DNGs in Bridge and Photoshop

Hello- I am a Canon photographer.  I use Bridge (CS5) to process my raw files to jpegs.  I am taking on a second photographer who shoots Nikon (D800) and i am not currently able to see or process his images.  Can you please help?  thank you!

    According to Adobe:
    D800
    NEF
    6.7, 7.1
    4.1
    D800E
    NEF
    6.7, 7.1
    4.1
The fact that they have 2 versions of ACR means that initial support for the D800 was added in 6.7  but that complete support was finalized in 7.1 (the 4.1 in the chart is for Lightroom)
I'm not sure that this means there are missing features, but rather refinements and optimized settings were added in 7.1
    However, ACR 7.1 requires CS6.
As Dag mentioned, you can also use the latest version of DNG Converter to convert the D800 files to DNGs which will be able to be opened in older versions of ACR.
The DNG converter only works on folders of files, not individual files. So just select the folder and convert. All the files in the folder will be converted.

  • When will a Camera Raw new version become available  for CS5 and Nikon D800 images ??  Any clues?

I understand that I have presently  an option to download the Beta version ACR 6.7  and it expires by May 31st.
Does this mean that a new ACR version will become available for regular automatic update on or before that date?
I just want to know when will I be able to enjoy processing  the images from the new Nikon D800   I hace CS5

I would expect Adobe to support the current version of LR with the current version of PS as usual.
Last time it was the opposite, but this time, LR4 with PV2012 came out, first, when CS5/ACR6.x was the current version so I would expect Adobe to release a final CS5-compatible ACR that knows how to render, but not adjust PV2012 recipes from LR4.  This is what ACR 6.7RC attempts to do but with some luminance differences with certain PV2012 toning sliders near their extremes.    Adobe rushed things a bit, this time, due to the D800 and 5D.3 cameras coming out about the same time and wanting to make big spenders happy sooner rather than later, so I expect they are taking extra time to get things right in the released versions of ACR 6.7, ACR 7 and LR 4.1.  With CS6 also coming out, and the economy still on the rocks in many areas of the world and country, resources are stretched thing, but I expect all will resolve in time.

  • Is CS5 obsolete for Nikon D800

Download Lightroom 5.2 to open Nikon D800 RAW images. OK.
Photoshop CS5 manages D700 but not D800 RAW. CS5 Extended is asking for 8.2 Camera Raw version when using D800 files. Believe have 6.7 as the latest available software version.
Is Lightroom 5.2 or Nikon NX2 Capture my only choice converting Raw images?
Cannot justify Photoshop CC financially and don't think I have to upgrade to Photoshop CS6 as it is somewhat outdated for almost $700.
Use Windows 7 & 8. Please advise Hartmut

Is Lightroom 5.2 or Nikon NX2 Capture my only choice converting Raw images?
Or use the free Adobe DNG converter to convert the Raw D800 files to DNGs. Then edit the DNGs in CS5.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html
As a CS5 owner, you can get the Cloud for $29.99/month for the first 12 months if you join by Dec 3, 2013. After 12 months you'll pay the normal monthly fee (currently $49.99/month).

  • Just got a Nikon D610 and CS5 for Mac can't open the images -- message says installed version of camera raw doesn't support the camera.  Downloaded the Raw 6.2 update for Mac, but installation failed. Now what?

just got a Nikon D610 and CS5 for Mac can't open the images -- message says installed version of camera raw doesn't support the camera.  Downloaded the Raw 6.2 update for Mac, but installation failed. Now what?

The D610 didn't get out-of-the-box RAW support until Photoshop CC.
You can either upgrade to CC or use the DNG Converter to convert and open your DNGs in CS5.

  • Export panel bridge cs5 - image quality only to 10

    Hi
Is anyone else having problems with the image quality settings in the image options.  It cannot seem to save the max setting of 12 it only save jpegs at 10.
    Any suggestions,  Thanks Andy

I had the exact same issue - except mine is limiting it to a maximum of 8
The workaround I found is to build the export profile exactly as you would like it - and let it pick whatever number it wants (8 or 10) - ignore the words of Low/High/Maximum - those just correlate to the 8 or 10 (or 12)
12 is the true maximum for the JPG export and once you run it - there is a noticeable file size increase and the images are a higher quality.
Once you have the profile built, go into the folder "Export Presets"
    Macintosh HD > Users > YourUsername > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Bridge CS5 > Export Presets
Open up the file that matches the same name as what you created inside bridge
The file will likely open as an .xml file inside dreamweaver (or another XML editor)
    find the line:
           <imageQuality>8</imageQuality>
and set what the system set as an 8 (or a 10) to a 12
           <imageQuality>12</imageQuality>
save the file and run the export again.
You will have what were 2-4MB JPG files becoming 8-12MB files with a quality of 12/Maximum
    Hope that helps

  • IMac won't show Nikon D800 NEF image files.

Nikon D800 NEF files will transfer from my Nikon D800 to my iMac. They will show as a "list" in the folder that I transfer them to.  They will not show as thumbnails, nor open with "image preview".  Tiff and JPEGs will transfer and show as thumbnails and open with all my processing programs.  The NEF's will also not open in Adobe Lightroom.  I need to be able to see the thumbnails on my iMac. Everything worked until I installed Snow Leopard.
    I have:
    Photoshop CS6 13.0  64 bit
    Camera Raw 7.1.0.354
    Snow Leopard OSX 10.6.8
    Nikon View NX2 2.3.0
    Nikon Transfer 2  Vers.  2.3.1
    Adobe Bridge 5.0.0.399

  • I cannot open Nikon D800 RAW image files in lightoom 2

I cannot open Nikon D800 RAW image files in lightoom 2.  My raw files will not import into lightroom (it imports jpegs, but not the RAW files) I am using Lightroom 2, version 2.7, camera Raw 5.7. Can you help?

I would highly recommend upgrading to Lightroom 4 as the processing engine is a quantum leap ahead from Lr 2 just as your camera is a leap ahead!!
p.s.  you can upgrade directly fro 2 to 4.
