Image remains after closing window.

Hi!
I just purchased my first LCD display (23" Apple) and I immediately noticed an anomaly. When I have a window open, such as mail, after closing, the image of the window remains faintly on the desk top. I can even read the title of the last email etc. The image slowly fades away and disappears but it's somewhat unnerving. An image even remained from the previous user after I switched.
Is this common? Just a "thing" that LCDs do? After all the hype about xboxes burning in on plasma TVs, I'm a little paranoid.
Thanks to all for your advice and council !
Jeff

Hey Jeff -
I had a problem with my 23 ghosting a good while back, but I changed the desktop and I haven't noticed it since, I have read of others mentioning the problem, try searching this folder for "ghost".
This document has some information but from reading posts in the past I suspect the ghosting is partially a hardware issue and some monitors of the same model have it worse than others.

    After closing [window X] then opening new/different [window Y] from 'library' etc> (Y) opens normally with undesired 'tab' of (X)> Intentional? If so, adjustable and how??

    If you click on the bottom library what is the file path that is  displayed?
    Try the following:
    1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
    User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
    or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
    3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
    NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Window Memory usage even after closing windows

    I've included links to a test app that does nothing but
    launch a window, play a sound, close window / repeat.
    When application launches it uses about 20mb of memory. When
    you click on the only button, it will launch a secondary window
    that will simply play a wav file. (I set the volume low but you may
    want to mute it :D)
    After launching and closing the window several times the
    memory usage goes up considerably and *never* falls back a
    significant %. (I got it to about 100MB before I decided to quit
    trying to increase the memory usage. Right now it's been running
    w/o any user interaction since opening about 10 windows and it's
    fairly stable at around 61MB (although that appears to be
    increasing w/o user interaction).
    Does anyone know of any methods I can use to ensure that the
    memory consumed by secondary windows does not just persist forever
    even after closing the window? Is there something I'm doing wrong
    here?
    Example Code:
    http://www.vf-server.com/air/memorytest.air
    (AIR)
    http://www.vf-server.com/air/memorytest.zip
    (source ZIP)
    Note: When I *minimize* the window it looks like garbage
    collection is forced and app drops back to 11MB (on restore back to
    19mb).
    Edit: note in your task manager, application appears as
    JBTest.exe

    You can call System.gc() to force the garbage collector to
    run.
    Try removing the event listeners when they aren't needed
    anymore. I think it is more difficult for the gc to cleanup objects
    when there are host objects (like Sound) refering to JavaScript
    objects and JavaScript objects refering to host objects, so you
    need to be especially careful about those. It SHOULD clean them up
    eventually, but it may take longer for it to figure out that those
    objects are no longer in use.
    You might also clear the secondaryWindow reference in the
    parent document when the window closes. That reference might retard
    garbage collection, too.

  • ITunes relaunches itself after closing (Windows 7)

    Yesterday was all OK, but today after I closed iTunes is restarted itself. Nothing was changed with the system since yesterday. I've found a couple of topics with the same problem, but they're both about MacOS. I have this problem on Windows 7.

    I'm going to ask the hosts to move this to the windows part of the iTunes part of this forum. YOu'll stand a better chance to get an answer there than you will here.

  • Trying to locate "downloads" window after closing window.

    While I am on my online banking websites I often download a statement. Doing so automatically saves a copy of the downloaded item in a window that pops up labeled downloads along with saving a copy on the desk top. Since I do not like me desk top cluttered I often delete the short cut on the desk top right after viewing the statement. If I close the actual window labeled downloads with out clearing the downloaded items when I download another statement at a later date the previous downloads are still there. What I what to know is how I can access the downloads window for viewing a previous downloaded statement once the window is closed with out downloading another statement to gain access to that window.

    You have things just slightly backwards: the version that pops up on your desktop is the actual file, not a shortcut, as you called it. So when you delete it afterward, you're deleting the only copy you downloaded.
    The downloads window to which you referred is actually a part of your web browser, not the Finder. You can reopen that at any time by hitting either:
    If using Safari, hit: Command-Option-L
    If using Firefox, hit: Command-J
    But again, once you've deleted the original file, this browser window serves only as an historical list of everything you've downloaded. It won't help you get to the original file, since you deleted it.
    The solution is simple: change your browser's default downloads location from the desktop to a dedicated downloads folder, one from which you won't feel compelled to delete items. You do that by either:
    If using Safari, go to "Safari -> Preferences -> General" and change the pop-up called "Save downloaded files to"
    If using Firefox, go to "Firefox -> Preferences -> Main" and click the "Choose" button to the right of "Save files to"
    The other option is to upgrade to Leopard, which handles downloads a bit differently than Mac OS X 10.4.x.
    Hope this helps!

  • Firefox.exe process remains after closing Firefox

    I closed Firefox 5 over 45 minutes ago. At the time it closed, I had around 60 tabs open. The Firefox window closed, but now, over 30 minutes later, firefox.exe is still consuming 624 MB of memory. For the record, currently Windows Task Manager shows firefox.exe consuming 00 CPU, 639,772 K Mem Usage and a Peak Mem Usage of 771,296 K.
    I'm seen this behavior at other times and, on those occasions, the firefox.exe process did eventually terminiate and release that memory. Why does firefox.exe take so long to terminate? Is this a bug or just a result of the way I use Firefox? I do tend to have a lot of tabs, 60 to 75, open at any given time. I'm guessing that's more tabs than the typical user.

    I should go on to add that I have already seen the Firefox Hangs |Hang at exit document and none of these look like the obvious issue. I'm running Java Version 1.6.0_26, so current there. I'm not running any of the listed Internet security software. The only extensions I'm running are Java Console 6.0.26, ReloadEvery 5.0.0 and Xmarks 4.0.1, so not a lot of extensions.

  • Error "Cannot navigate out of current form" is raised after closing window.

    Hello,
    We are currently migrating from Designer 6.0 with Headstart 2.1.2 to Designer 6i release 4.10 with Headstart 6.5.3.0. We have a form with an action item in it to call another form. An error FRM-41351 "Cannot navigate out of current form" is raised when the following steps are undertaken:
    - Start the generated form (from the menu).
    - Push the button the call the second form.
    - Close the second form.
    - Close the first (parent) form.
    If we start and close the first (parent) form without have started the second one, this error is not raised.
    After some investigation, the problem seems to have something to do with the library OFGNAVL65.PLL. It looks the generated form tries to close a window based on a non-existent ID.
    Has anyone experienced this same problem? Can you help me?
    Kind regards,

  • Images shift after closing iphoto?

    Each time that I close the book feature on iphoto- a few pictures will shift. I edited these images to the 4x3 book ratio, cropped them, save the changes and then will recenter the image- but they will still shift. It's pretty random.
    I fixed these errors and then uploaded and bought two- 78 page books. I am now concerned that without seeing a final proof- other images will shift over.
    How do a pre-proof the file that will be printed.
    Thanks in advance for your pointers and advice! spence

    Hi spence,
    Old Toad (our form guru) has a hint for finding the temporary PDF that iPhoto compiles that is uploaded to Apple.
    Here's how you find the pdf file:
    How to Find the iPhoto Generated PDF File:
    1 - Start the ordering process and stop after the book has been assembled and you get to the Order pane where you select the cover color, copies, etc.
    2 - Go to the Finder and select the Go->Go to Folder menu item (CommandShiftG).
    3 - copy the following, “/private/var/tmp/folders.501/TemporaryItems/iPhoto” (for Panther the path is ‘/private/tmp/501/TemporaryItems/iPhoto “), and paste into the Go to Folder search box.
    4 - the iPhoto folder will be brought up. In it will be the PDF file that was generated by iPhoto. You can copy it (Option-drag) to the Desktop to review and/or save.
    Note: the iPhoto folder will not exist before you start the ordering process and is deleted after the order is completed or after you cancel the order and quit iPhoto.
    The preceeding was developed on Tiger but should work with Panther.

  • DVD burn image remains after unburnt dvd ejected

    I was burning photos to a DVD but the process failed [bad disk] so it was ejected unburnt and is now recycled plastic.  The Finder now has no way to remove this icon in the side bar or in Disk Utility without reinserting the missing disk.  Is there a way round this?  Disk Utility itself seems unable to assist, nor 'Help'.  The Superdrive still accepts other disks to read or burn, so is working OK.  Cheers, Bill

    Hey, i think if there could be any of the possibilities you talk about, it might have been a naming error. All files i created had the same name in the new project as in the old one. But i used 1 asset arrow that i copy pasted from a library button "Red facets button" and shift pasted on my own buttons as highlight (paste sub picture). In the first project i did not do this as a straight forward thing, a lot of deleting and adding because i had never done it before and there might have happened something with the naming of the arrow i pasted. I used the same arrow in the second project but without messing with delete, paste all the time. But some how there is no problems now, just something wrong with the last project file =S
    Not so important:
    I also noticed while building the new project i once got an "General error", not sure why but happened after a random crash. And 2 get rid of it i had to delete the menu and make it again (i could not edit anything in the menu without getting the error). I rebuild the menu and had another crash when exiting the program, because i thought my computer needs to boot after 2 days online. When i reopened the project i got "General error" in the menu again, but after some clicking it didn't show up (random). Finally i got my project setup and everything works, i did the copy past as sub picture as a straight forward thing.

  • With 7, both after closing and during, MS says FF has to close, twice, FF dosen't close and works just fine

    Ok, With 7, BOTH during AND after closing, Windows pops up, FF has to close, would you like to report? Does this twice. This happen about half the time I use FF.
    If it happens while in FF, it doesn't close, works fine after this, and closes OK
    This did not happen with FF6 and has never happened before

    But my question is: How does the software do that?
    It scans the local network for computers trying to "share" software that is only supposed to be licensed for one computer. I can't give you a technical answer, I can just tell you that's what it's doing.
    then what's preventing less ethical coders from deploying similar but more sinister malware with the same capability?
    Nothing. Any vendor of any software, from a one person shareware or freeware app to a company the size of Apple, Microsoft or Adobe could sneak in damaging code. Any company that wants to stay in business though would never allow it.
    In a typical software company (particularly larger ones), you have not only the people who write the code, but also system analysts who review the code looking for flaws or anything else that shouldn't be there.
    Now I have the fear that if I'm using a wifi hotspot in a cafe or wherever, someone else with hacking skills on that same hotspot could basically see what I'm doing on my computer, without my knowledge.
    The software to pry (they hope undetected) into other folks' computers on an open network like that has been around for years. That's why you at least need to have your firewall enabled when using a wifi hotspot.

  • Windows 8.1 desktop refresh required after closing mstsc

    In Windows 8.1 Pro with Update (64-bit), in desktop mode, after closing the mstsc app (click X in title bar) during an mstsc session to a Window 7 Ent SP1 workstation, the contents of the mstsc window remain displayed and a desktop refresh (right-click->refresh
    on the desktop) is required to refresh the desktop to clear the stale content from the display. This does not happen when using mstsc to connect to a legacy Win XP Pro workstation.
    Video adapter is an integrated Intel P4600/P4700 with latest drivers provided my Microsoft Update (v10.18.10.3621) in multi-monitor (3 monitors) mode. The mstsc is only active on one monitor.
    Anyone else seen this issue?

    Monitor refresh rate (all 3 of them is set to 60hz). Only options on the primary display are 59 or 60Hz.
    Setting the refresh rate to 59Hz produces same results. Setting back to 60Hz produces same results.
    Sometimes part of the desktop on the monitor with the mstsc window needs to be refreshed, sometimes all of it under the mstsc windows needs to be refreshed, and sometimes, but rarely, the desktop never needs to be refreshed after closing mstsc to this specific
    target.
    The mstsc session is not a full screen session and is opened as per:
    C:\Windows\System32\mstsc.exe "<path to rdp file>.rdp" /w:2560 /h:1530
    on a 30" display set for 2560x1600, 32bpp, 60Hz
    To clarify, the specific issue manifests when I disconnect the session -- ie. clicking the X in the title bar, then clicking OK in the dialog "Your remote session will be disconnected". The "Your remote session will be disconnected" dialog
    disappears (sometimes), and the mstsc windows title bar disappears but some or all of everything else that was inside the mstsc windows (from the remote system) remains displayed (even the mstsc bottom window border) until the desktop is refreshed.
    I do note that if I set the mstsc session to full screen and then close/disconnect the session while it is in full screen, that the refresh required after disconnect issue does not manifest.
    I am not sure if this is a functional issue in the mstsc client in Windows 8.1 (file version 6.3.9600.16384) or is more generally display/explorer specific. If the issue is broader, I am only noticing it with mstsc.
    I've also updated to the latest Intel HD Graphics driver (rel: 2014-08-29) and no difference.

  • Backend BSP session not closing on server after closing the window

    Hi All,
    We have SAP EP (7.0 SP21) and there is a BSP transaction ivew (Interaction Center ) intergrated in the portal. The issue is when the user performs any transactions inside the BSP and then closes the browser, session remains on the server till the timeout. Is there a way to end those sessions on server after closing the browser immediately?
    Portal domain : xx.mycomp.com
    ABAP system domain :mycom.com
    Should the domains be same for the DSM of Portal to work or is there any solution that can be considered.
    regards
    Uday

    Hi Uday,
    These are the main issues that can cause issues with DSM:
    JavaScript Origin Policy:
    Scripting
    between different domains is not allowed because of “JavaScript origin policy”.
    Also
    communication between mixed protocols (http\https) is forbidden.
    Therefore
    the portal server and the content server must be on the same domain and must
    use the same protocol.
    For
    detailed explanation see:
    http://mozilla.org/projects/security/components/same-origin.html
    Popup Blocker:
    •Popup blockers may cause troubles
    in relation with SRA feature.
    •Terminator handles notifications in
    new window when current window is being destroyed (logoff, closing browser
    window) – popup blocker prevents the opening of new window, hence no session
    handling performed.
    please also check SAP Note #596698 for more information typical problems and troubleshooting.
    In general, the 2 domains should be the same.
    xxx.mycomp.com, meaning that first part of the url can change but what comes after should be the same domain.
    Best regards,
    Etay

  • After closing serversocket, process remains

    Hi everyone,
    I'm trying to learn to write a client/server program. I begin by creating a serversocket and waiting for data. When I close the program, the serversocket still remains even when I create handlers that try to close the socket after the GUI has been closed.
    The server is as follows:
    try
                   ServerSocket myServerSocket = new ServerSocket(6666);
                   myServerSocket.setReuseAddress(true);
                   writeToDebugger("Server successfully created.  Listening on port 6666\n");
                   //     open a socket for listening for multiple requests
                   while(listening)
                             clientSocket = myServerSocket.accept();
                             //clientSocket.setReuseAddress(true);
                             writeToDebugger("Client " + clientSocket.getInetAddress().toString() + " accepted.");
                             //store clientSocket information
                             out = new PrintWriter(
                                    clientSocket.getOutputStream(), true);
                             in = new BufferedReader(
                                      new InputStreamReader(
                                          clientSocket.getInputStream()));
                             while ((inputLine = in.readLine()) != null && inputLine != "")
                                  writeToDebugger(inputLine);
                             //breaker = inputLine.indexOf(',');
                             //store the incoming request's information --- username of requestor is first param, requested username is second param
                             //database.put(inputLine.substring(0, breaker), clientSocket.getInetAddress());
                             //return the IP address of the username lookup
                             //out.print(database.get(inputLine.substring(breaker+1)));
              }Here is my closing handler:
    public void windowClosed(WindowEvent arg0) {
              listening=false;
              try
                   System.out.println("CLOSING FOR REAL");
                   if(clientSocket!=null)
                        clientSocket.close();
                        clientSocket.shutdownInput();
                        clientSocket.shutdownOutput();
                   if(myServerSocket!=null)
                        myServerSocket.close();
                   if(out!=null)
                        out.flush();
                        out.close();
                   if(in!=null)
                        in.close();
                   System.out.println("DONE CLOSING");
              catch(Exception e)
                   System.out.println(e.getMessage());
         }If someone could please tell me why I have to go into the task manager to close the process after I have already closed the GUI, I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Julian

    And you're doing all these closes in the wrong order, and redundantly.
    Just close 'out' and the ServerSocket, doesn't matter in what order here.
    All the other closes and shutdowns are redundant. Calling shutdownXXX after closing the socket does nothing (and calling them just before closing the socket would add nothing to what close() already does). Closing the client socket before closing the output stream built around the socket output stream denies the output stream the chance to flush.
