Image removed from email

Hope someone can help me...........
The message comes up "image removed" in email, not always but most of the time if there are images to view. Also when I am forwarding mail that I received with images that do open, the images do not show up in the forward. I use Safari to access my aol and bellsouth account.
Thanking you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

  • Can I remove files from "images removed from" dir?

I have some duplicate files on my iMac, including some large videos in a "images removed from xxxxxxx" directory. Can I safely delete these?

Yes, you can delete this additional "images removed from ...." vault, if you do not need this backup of older videos. It contains all photos/videos, that have been backed up in your vault, and have been removed, because they are no longer in your Aperture library. remove this vault only, if you do not want to keep this videos or have other backups of them.
See Frank Caggiano's answer here:  Re: Folder labeled "Images Removed from Aperture Vault #1"
But I am puzzled: Why are these vaults on your iMac? Are they on your system drive or on a second internal drive? Vaults are best kept on a drive different from the drive where the library is kept. Otherwise they will be of no use, if the drive should fail and needs to be restored.

  • Images removed from Vault

When I update the Vault a separate folder in the same location gets populated with various images under the folder name "Images removed from Vault". Is there a need to retain this folder? Otherwise it seems to be a waste of space.

    I wouldn't be surprised
But I want to clarify a point. Isn't "Deleting from Library" = "Deleting from Vault"? My understanding is that if you delete a Master from the Library, when you update that Library's Vault, the Master in the Vault is moved out of the Vault and placed in the "Removed from Vault" folder. In other words, there really isn't an interim user's step "Delete from Vault" other than just "Update Vault". No?

  • Images removed from Aperture 2010

    1. On the hard drive upon which my vaults are stored, getting a directory called "Images removed from Aperture [name of vault]." Any ideas please as I've only just noticed these on a pretty organised system.
    2. My Aperture has always been slow, crashes several times a day even though it was bought new in Jan 2010 and is just back from the Genius bar and still doing the same. Any ideas?
    3. One of my largest libraries will no longer open. It was going through a repair and became stuck for a day so I closed it. Since then Aperture will no longer open via clicking on it in the Finder. It does have a vault (I'm guessing 95% up to date) associated with it, but I'm not sure if I should now go to the next step and open the Vault and restore from there (or however I do it).
    4. How best to organise my libraries, eg have one for every month (take huge number of images of my boys and client shoots) or have one per year with projects of months within. I have then albums for the events under those months. I don't (yet) use Folders as haven't found a use for that extra level or organisation, but should I?
    5. Is it ok to copy the contents of Show Package contents and use that to make an additional copy. I'd read that I could Show Package contents, then select all with "." a period, then select Kind.. Images and then just copy the contents to another directory. I'm thinking of this route given my unreliability of Aperture, original the trial then used the serial number to upgrade beyond trial.
    6. Should I reinstall Aperture using the serial number or by disk? Haven't done that before, as it was an internet download.
Lots of Qs, my first post

These contains masters that were removed from the library between vault backup operations.

By Aperture you mean your computer system? Without more information it would be difficult to answer this. What did Apple say when you brought it in?
If you got Aperture in Jan 2010 you started with version 2 correct? What version are you running now?

Large libraries can take over a day to do repairs or updates. It's tough to wait but most times that's the best course of action. Have you tried to repair it again? If you can;t open it or repair it and you have a vault for it you might as well restore it. That's what the vault is for. If you decide to restore and have questions post back.

This is a huge topic and best addressed in a separate post. There are plenty of resources covering this topic both in this discussion group, in the Aperture users manual and on the web. Familiarize yourself with them and than post back with specific questions.

What your describing doesn't make sense from a systems standpoint. The most it would do, if it worked, is get out your image files and previews but in no way that Aperture could use unless you imported them. Even if it worked you would lose all your adjustments, keywords etc.
It's never a good idea to go into the Aperture library at the package level. The smallest misstep can have bad outcomes. If you ever need to copy the library you just need to drag the .aplibrary file.
    6. Should I reinstall Aperture using the serial number or by disk? Haven't done that before, as it was an internet download.
As long as you have the serial number you can install from either.

It would be best if in future posts you tried to focus on a single issue. Long posts usually don't get the kind of response you would like as they can be hard for the reader to get through. Be specific and you're more likely to get multiple responses. You may want to take a look at [Help & Terms of Use|http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa] to get some idea as to how these groups work.
Good luck and welcome to the list.

  • Images Removed from Vault Folder

So if I try to import any of those images in "Images Removed from Vault" with the box checked don't import duplicates, and I check each and every image and none show up in Import window then these must be duplicates and then safe to trash? Correct?

Yes it is a normal but unreported feature. When you run the vault command the vault created is a snapshot of the current state of the library. If there is a previous vault for this library then images that are in the vault but no longer in the library are moved to the folder you referred to.
If you are certain you do not want any of those images anymore you an delete them.

  • OK this is weird- like Gremlins weird- Images removed from vault

On the drive where my main A3 library lives- NOT on the drive where my vault lives- I just found an "Images removed from vault" folder. It's 36.55GB and contains images that I did not delete from my library. It gets weirder: those images are not gone from my library! The images dates range from 2007-2011. I haven't found a common denominator yet.
    DLS

I had been having a great deal of trouble with my vault drive: sometimes it wouldn't mount, and updating the vault would hang when it did mount. The third cable I was tried finally gave me a stable mount, but it kept hanging at the same place updating the vault.
I ran repairs on both the the library and the vault drives and did all the trouble shooting on the library. Same thing. Finally, I wiped the vault drive and started over. The new vault was created without issue. (This is a 450GB vault on a 500GB drive- I know, I know)
I noticed the "gremlin" folder today after I copied over an old 1.56 library- that was unrelated to the images in question- to pull up some old client work. I don't remember seeing it there before, but it was dated the day before I resolved the vault issues.
@Nathan: It was at the same level as the library, and they were equivalent to masters: CRWs, CR2s and PSDs.

  • Folder labeled "Images Removed from Aperture Vault #1"

    Hi all,
I was just looking at everything that's on the External Hard Drive on which I have my Aperture Vault.  There's another folder on that EHD labeled "Images Removed from Aperture Vault #1."  Noodling through that folder, it seems to be every master that I've deleted, broken down my year, month, and even day.
Is this normal behavior?  Can I delete all those sub-folders, etc.?  Should I keep the folder itself?  Did I somehow set this up initally?
Anyhoo, thank you all for any suggestions.

  • Images removed from Albums

Browsing through some old projects, I came accross one in which 12 out of 13 albums are mysteriously empty. The masters are still there in the project but they have been removed from the albums into which they were imported. Is this something that the 'Rebuild Library' function (Command+Option on relaunch) should fix?
    Andy.
    iMac G5 2.1Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Brian,
That's a good tip! That issue did actually cause me some confusion when I was doing a date search for the images to replace them in the albums. However I don't think it was the cause of the original problem. The grey figure in brackets in the projects panel showing the number of images in each album was zero. I've just tried looking at my rebuilt albums with a filter on the search criteria and yes, the images are no longer visible in the browser. However the figure in brackets remains the same.
    Regards,
    Andy.

  • Attachments automatically removed from emails on IPad  the email

When I receive emails the attachments are being automatically removed from the email on my IPad. I have LotusNotes Traveler for my work email. Any suggestions on what the problem is and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated

When I set up an email account on the iPad 4 (6.1.3), it took my information and defaulted the setup as an IMAP account.  It had always been a POP account but there was no option now to set it up as a POP.  Those tabs at the top were gone.
Before, I would receive the email in my inbox, read it and close it.  It would stay in my inbox until I deleted it.  Now, since it's an IMAP acount, as soon as I read my email on the PC (which downloads it from the server), it disappears from the iPad!  I couldn't find a way to change it back to a POP.
This is how i solved it:
    1.  Delete the existing IMAP account
    2.  Add the same account but give it a bad password thereby preventing iOS setting it up as IMAP
    3.  At that point, it gave me the tabs where i could choose to set it us as POP.  I changed the 'Incoming Server' to the POP address, entered the correct password and saved it.  It verified the settings as POP and all is good with the world.  Now my emails don't disappear from the iPad after I read them on the PC.
I'm not sure when or why the option for IMAP/POP disappeared from the initial setup screen & why it defaults to IMAP.  Maybe it's back in iOS7.. maybe i should update.
(My email is a Cox account and I guess it can be either an IMAP or POP)

  • How do I find and extract images in from email

Over the years, plenty of people have shared pictures with me via email.  I want to find all those pictures and make copies to put into aperture.  I don't want to grab all the pictures that are .gifs that are icons from applications or signature etc.
Does anyone know a good way or app to do this?  Finder doesn't seem to allow me to exclude certain files.

    mass wrote:
Finder doesn't seem to allow me to exclude certain files.
Let's get a few things out of the way first.
As to X1, forget it. It's Windows only, and it's not exactly cheap.
Also, nothing I say applies to Outlook. I assume you're talking Outlook 2011, and I have no clue how it works.
As to Finder, it doesn't do searches. All searches are done by Spotlight. Finder's Find command, the Spotlight menu, these are just different ways of interacting with Spotlight. And, yes, of course you can exclude certain files. You simply have to learn to use Spotlight. I'm not a fan -- I think Spotlight is not a search engine, but a sorry, pathetic excuse for one -- but still, it can do a few things if you handle it right.
Now, about Mail. AFAIK, Apple does not document the <~/Library/Mail> structure, so what follows is from my own observations, and hence not authoritative.
Incoming and outgoing messages from your mail accounts, ie, listed in Mail.app's Sidebar under "Mailboxes", are stored in <~/Library/Mail/[account]>, inside .mbox packages, as individual .emlx files. An .emlx file contains the raw message, plus an XML footer. Any attachments are, of course, inside the raw message in base64 encoding. The .emlx metadata does not include whether or not the message contains an attachment, so you can't use Spotlight to search for messages with attachments, nor can you do that in Mail.
However, messages which are moved from your mail accounts to local, user-created mailboxes, listed in Mail.app's Sidebar under "On My Mac", are treated slightly differently. They are still stored as .emlx files (including attachments) inside .mbox packages, which, in their turn, are inside a directory named "Mailboxes", but the attachments are also extracted to an Attachments directory inside the respective .mbox package, being stored inside directories labelled with the respective message's number. With this arrangement, finding images with Spotlight becomes trivial.
For instance, you say you want to find all images which are not GIFs. In Finder, select <~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes>, then ⌘F or ⇧⌘F. In the search field, type
    kind:image NOT .gif
(the Boolean operator NOT is case sensitive). This should find all images which do not contain the string ".gif" in their file name. Of course, there are strings attached.  If there is an image named, say, "my_photo.gif.jpg", it will be missed. Also, "kind:image" only looks for TIFF, JPEG, PNG, GIF and BMP formats. It will probably not find RAW images, or those in more exotic formats.
So, your first step in Mail (if you haven't done so already) is to organise your mail, irrespective of attachments, in mailboxes and folders in "On My Mac". (IMHO, this is a good idea in any case.)
The next step is to use a Spotlight search as described above to find all images. After that, it's up to you. I don't know how Aperture works. Maybe you can just import them, or maybe you need to copy them to some folder. (Remember, you may copy stuff from <~/Library/Mail>, but don't move or delete any of it in Finder -- or the wrath of Mac OS X will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger!) If you do need to copy them to some other folder, I suspect you'll discover another bridge to cross, but we'll deal with that when -- if -- we get there.

What is the problem? What does not work?
Either drag the attachment from the mail to the iPhoto con in the Dock, or ctrl-click the attachment and use the option "Export to iPhoto" from the pop-up menu (in Mail in MacOS X 10.10). Don't remember, if this worked in Mail in Mac OS X (10.5.8), as your signature is showing.

  • Aperture 2 Frustration 27 "Remove From Album" disabled

I created an album of selected images. I want to remove some of the images. I select a few and try Images > Remove From Album. The option is disabled. Why? It's not a Smart Album.

I selected several images from the result of search criteria. Most of them are stacked images. I only want one of each stacked image in my album, which sounds like a reasonable thing to do, but all images are copied into the album.
Then I tried removing the unwanted images from the album, but if they're stacked, the "Remove from Album" option is greyed-out.
It doesn't seem to represent how one would do things with a real "album". I may have a "stack" of photographs, held together with a rubber band. I can easily slip a selected photograph out from the stack and stick it in the album - shouldn't that be how Aperture works?
    Also:
When creating a book, you can set an option to "include stack picks only". For example, if you wanted to create two books, one of colour photos and one of black and white Versions of the same photos, this "include stack picks only" is not very helpful as you'd have to change the stack pick for each of the books, or choose to see all the photographs without the option to "include stack picks only".
This all doesn't seem intuitive at all - am I missing something fundamental?
    Thank you.

  • Why can't I remove attachments from emails in the Sent items folder?

I Recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion, and so far, there are at least a couple of things that puzzle me.
One is that now I don't have the option to "Remove Attachments" from emails in the sent items folder. It seems to work normally
in the Inbox and Drafts folders, but not in the Sent items. Go figure ???
Another thing that bothers me is that in Preview, when I save a screen shot, or a scan, etc., I no longer have the option of saving it as a GIF
(which, when better quality isn't absolutely necessary, is often much lower in KB or MB than a PNG or JPG, etc.. When I store lots of things as such images, I'd rather have that option.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I have now created a smart mailbox as described above (good idea), and although I have some 50 messages in my Sent box, all with attachments (waiting to be removed so I can store the messages in the proper mailboxes), the smart mailbox is empty. So, Mail doesn't recognise these messages as containing attachments.
This led me to think that maybe Mail has been redesigned to work the way you would expect it to, at last; to contain a link to attachments instead of including them in all their bits and bytes. That would mean that the messages in my Sent box - with attachments - could be stored in local (or server-side) mailboxes without taking up extensive space.
But then I checked the size of my Sent Messages folder inside the Mail Folder in Finder, and - whoops - it's 50+ MB. So the sent messages do contain attachments all right. And Mail doesn't recognise these, since a) the smart mailbox trick says that the messages are free from attachments, and b) the Remove Attachments menu option is disabled.
I will have to wait for the next Mail update, and my Sent box will grow accordingly ...
