Image size jumps from 10.3mp to 58.9mp?
I shoot DNG in camera at 10.3mp. When opened in CC and I go to image size it is suddenly 58.9mp but only 11.9in by 9.6in in size. Why? I am looking to get a 16x20 print out of it with oul loss of image quality.
Depends on what figures you are using. Some doc sizes include ram resources needed to handle the image, but have nothing to do with image size.
Also, depends on layers, history states, etc.

I have Prem.El 12 and have used PE4 for years. I have a new PC that runs Win7Pro. The still images on the computer monitor are within the "safe margins". The still images after the movie has been burned to a disk are MUCH smaller on the TV screen. Is this an issue of 16:9 vs 4:3 ratios? My TV is 4:3. Can I tell PE12 to make the movie a 4:3?

Although I have seen your post of today in my Inbox Email Notifications, that post has not yet appears in this thread. It will probably will sooner or later. But, to keep things moving along....this is a copy of what I am seeing as your message of today in my Indox Email Notifications
Thank you for your patience in the time it is taking me to get back to you.
I am still trying to buy some DVD-RW discs and will hopefully do that in a
bit. Meanwhile, I have more info for you and some simple (I hope)
questions. If you want to insert your answers, that would be fine.
My camera (for stills and video) is set to the 4:3 ratio. It is capable of
being set to a 16:9 ratio if I wanted to do that. I looked in its TOOLS
menu and saw this info.
My TV is definitely a 4:3 TV. (I measured it with my tape measure and
divided W/L to get 1.33) The TV can show a 16:9 movie and just adds the
black bars on the top and bottom. Question: What will my old 4:3 movies
look like on a 16:9 TV whenever we buy one of those?
It seems to me that I want to set PE12 to the NTSC DV Standard you
mentioned.
I do NOT know how to “size your photos so that each has a 4:3 aspect”,
unless you mean doing that in Photoshop Elements, which I know how to do
(*see below)
I had NOT considered that I would need to watch the preset for the
‘Publish+Share’ step; so that’s good to know (I copied and pasted your info
for later use).
BTW, years ago when I had difficulties with my XP computer working on PE4
(had only 2 GB RAM), an Adobe tech told me to resize my photos * to have a
720 pixel width (the height would be automatically adjusted) to lower the
file size to something my computer could handle without crashing. (That
was back in the good ol’ days when Adobe support would actually talk with
their customers and try to help them in the first month)
My new computer has 16GB RAM. Do you think I still need to reduce file
size? One does lose some sharpness in the resizing process…..however,
these videos I’m making are travelogues and are for a fun way to view pics
and videos of a trip…nothing Earth shattering….and just a hobby to keep me
off the streets.
I truly appreciate the time you take to help me (and others). I was even
tempted to try to install my old PE4 on my new computer just to be able to
enjoy my hobby again.
My reply to the above....
1. If you camera is giving you 4:3 photos and your Premiere Elements 12/12.1 is running on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit, then leave
the photos as is unless you have a lot of photos and each has pixel dimensions sizes way over 1920 x 1080 pixels that are giving your computer resource issues. If you have to down size them because of computer resources, then copy the photos to a computer desktop folder and also create an empty folder on the computer desktop.
a. Photoshop Elements Editor, File Menu/Process Multiple Files.
Process Files form Folder
Source - browse to and select the computer desktop folder with photos to be resized
Destination - browse to and select the empty computer desktop folder
Image Size
Check Mark Next To Resize Images
(no check mark next to Constrain Proportions)
Type in Width = 1000 (set units for pixels)
Type in Height = 750 (set unites for pixels)
File Size
Check Mark Next to Convert Files To
Set for JPEG High Quality
The above should work fine for a NTSC DV Standard project with a burn to DVD disc with preset NTSC_Dolby DVD (4:3 video).
2. With regard to the TV Set and 16:9 video....when you have the DVD-player attached to the TV, do you have the opportunity to bring up a display of menus with
controls for Picture and Aspect Ratio? From what you have written so far, it looks like the answer is no. I am not sure how your TV DVD
player will handle 16:9.
Best do a mini test run
1. Project preset set manually to NTSC DV Widescreen (please refer to post 1 link)
A few photos sized for 1600 x 1200
In the Premiere Elements project, use the Safety Margins inner rectangle for text placement
Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc with preset = NTSC_Widescreen_Dolby DVD.
See what that looks like on your TV DVD player.
If you discovered that your current TV DVD player can be set for a 16:9 display, then I have a preferred workflow for
NTSC DV Widescreen which typically gives best possible results. Hints of things to come.
Please review and consider. Thanks for the follow ups.

No "image size" option from pictures taken with front camera?
When e-mailing a picture taken with the rear camera, I am prompted to choose an "image size." However, this option does not come up for any photo taken with the front camera.
Is this a bug or how it is supposed to function, or am I doing something wrong?
"Prompt for email image resize" is enabled in Hub and under Display and Actions for every e-mail account. I have 10.3.1.841 on the Classic.I understand what you are trying to say, however I'm not sure you understand what others have been trying to tell you.
Yes, the iPhone comes with a camera, and it comes with a standard camera application. This is a resident Apple application. You downloaded a new camera "application", not a new camera. This is a 3rd party application that uses the installed camera to operate. When trying to use Facebook, another 3rd party application, and you want to take a picture, it uses the Apple camera interface, because it cannot interact with another 3rd party application. In other words, as many have said, two third party applications cannot run together, or interact together, i.e. Facebook and your camera application.
Does that make sense now? While you can use the downloaded application to take pictures versus the Apple camera application, you cannot change the API for another application to use another 3rd party application for a task. I hopw this explanation works for you. -
Photoshop CC not displaying correct image sizes, among other issues.
Hey, so I'd like a bit of help here!
I got my new laptop from the school a couple of weeks ago and photoshop’s been funky ever since I got it. It’s a brand new Macbook, and it's running Photoshop CC.
First things first, it won’t recognize some of the brushstrokes I make. It will show that I've made them, but they won’t show up in the history panel. I'll have to make another stroke for it to register both of them. (Making undoing things a real pain.) Also, some of the keyboard shortcuts I use won't work in a really similar way. If I go to switch to my brush by pressing b, it occasionally won't register it unless I make an additional brush stroke. This works with all of the other shortcuts I use.
In addition, file sizes are all kinds of messed up. Here’s the most recent example. The image dimensions are 500px x 135px, 300DPI, 8bit, RGB color. This is at 100% zoom. Those are the settings I normally use, but for some reason it’s showing the file as about half of the size it should be. (Tumblr post for comparison—they are 500px wide.)
Here’s another example. This one is 1254 x 1201, 300DPI, 8bit, RGB, shown at 100% zoom. The image size is 4.31M. If I go to double the size and change nothing else, the image size jumps up to a whopping 17.2M. I don’t feel like that’s right? I don't remember any other versions of Photoshop having images be that large.
Maybe it’s my computer settings? Right now I have the resolution set on "best for display," but even if i use the "scaled" option and change sizes, the images are still too small.
I don't know if I would be able to uninstall and then re-install Photoshop because the school has control over those sorts of things and there are certain programs that you cannot remove. I've tried restarting the program as well as the laptop, but neither of those helped.
if anyone can help me, I’d really appreciate it! Thank you!For generic performance and trouble-shooting advice I’d like to recommend reading these:
http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/optimize-performance-photoshop-cs4-cs5.html
http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2012/07/photoshop-basic-troubleshooting-steps-to-fix-mos t-issues.html
As for the specifics:
The image size is 4.31M. If I go to double the size and change nothing else, the image size jumps up to a whopping 17.2M.
If you double the dimensions of an image the area is increased fourfold – so what is the problem there?
The image dimensions are 500px x 135px, 300DPI, 8bit, RGB color. This is at 100% zoom. Those are the settings I normally use, but for some reason it’s showing the file as about half of the size it should be. (Tumblr post for comparison—they are 500px wide.)
The introduction or Retina (and other high resolution) displays and browsers actually up-scaling images to accommodate those screen resolutions seems to have confused some users about the concept of pixels.
Could you please post a full size screenshot on this Forum of the image at View > 100% in Photoshop and on tumblr? -
Reducing background image size
Hi all,
I'm working with Captivate 4 and have made a screencast of a particular process for training purposes.
The project has 80 slides - but each background image is 1800+kb. Overall the project comes out at 3 MB even with the highest possible compression in the publishing settings.
The project is to be hosted on the Web so I really don't need this kind of detail in the background images and I can't find anyway to reduce the image size apart from exporting each of the 80 backgrounds into Photoshop, reducing them in size and importing them back into Catptivate. For 80 slides this would take too long.
So, two questions:
How can the background image size be reduced within Captivate?
How can I change the settings so when capturing screenshots the image sizes are smaller in the first place?
Thanks in advance for any tips,
Neil
Is there anyway theThanks Lilybiri
I've bene recording at full screen (1024x768 or close enough) in order to get the largest recording space possible - and then resizing the project to 800x600 for the web production. The problem is that there is no optimise for web setting (or none that I can see). I just did another test and each background image is 3000kb - way over the top for something that will be viewed on the web.
Does this help you get a fuller picture? Any advice?
Thanks for sparing your time to answer here btw - much appreciated

How can you find out an individual image size from multiple images on a canvas
This is probably a really really simple question but I can't for the life of me find how I can find out an individual image size from multiple images on a canvas. eg I have 3 photos i want to arrange 1 large and the other two next to it half the size. How can I edit individual image size on the canvas as when I select the image on a sperate layer I want to resize it just resizes the entire canvas and not the individual image
ThanksI want to know they exact dimensions though. You can get them by dragging to the 0,0 corner and then reading off of the ruler scale on the sides but its fiddily as you have to zoom right in and work it out. I know in photoshop there is a ruler but is there any other way in Elements?

Ok.
My workflow is
RAW > Aperture Library > export jpeg high resolution 300 dpi's > one file on PS > edit > Save us jpeg. The I realised that files from PS were being save in a smaller size from the ones exported form Aperture. That is when I went o see <image size> on PS and files were with 72.
Since ten I've trying different things
1. Aperture > export as PSD > open on PS > edit > Save us jpeg = small file (around 15 MB)
2. Aperture > export as jpeg high resolution 300 dpi's > open on PS > CHANGE dpi's to 300 on <image size> edit > Save us jpeg = big file (Huge, actually)
What am I doing wrong? Would someone give me guidance and tell me what is the best workflow, considering I edit photos to deliver to my clients and I shall give them 300 dpi's.

How do I change the JPEG image size in PSE-12 when opening from RAW
Switching from PSE-9 to PSE-12. When a JPEG image is opened RAW in PSE-12 the size is 18.72" Wide x 12.48" high 300 DPI. The same image in PSE-9 is 23.4" wide x 15.6" High 240 DPI. How do I get PSE-12 to open the image as in PSE-9?
Uncheck the boxes at the bottom of the dialog Scale styles and resample Image so that only constrain proportions is checked. If you the change the resolution box from 240 to 300 you will get back to your original dimensions.
This is a meaningless thing to do, you still have the exact same number of pixels, you have only changed the metadata number in the file for ppi, and your prints are not affected by this number.
You could also use the same method to change the dimensions to 6 x 4 or 9 x 6 etc.
There are some cases (actually most cases) where you need to CROP the photo to change the dimensions, when the aspect ratio of the original photos is different than the aspect ratio of the final photo; the specific case in 99jon's example is the only case you ever want to change dimensions using Image->Resize->Image Size, where the aspect ratio doesn't change from 6x4 to 9x6 (or 12x8 or 18x12 or ...), and even then, you could do the same thing simply by telling the printer the size you want, you don't really need to do anything in PSE. -
When I export from Lr to CS3 my image size is 8x12 roughly, why?
I shoot RAW with a 5d mark2 I export from lr to cs3 in my workflow. I am wanting to create a gallery wrap at an image size of 24x36, when I go to create my negative space my exported image size from Lr is only 8x12, why would that be? I don't know what to do or how to make my image larger without loosing quality? I have never noticed this before? Why is it doing this now?
It will be the settings in your export menu.

Hi,
I'm trying to extract image size from header for PNG, JPG, TIFF, BMP and GIF files. So far I got PNG working. I'm having problems finding size info for JPG files. Anyone knows where I can read about it (i didnt find nothing on google) or have the code that works? also for the other image types?
P.S. I dont wanna read the entire image using Image class cause its too slow.Code Snippet:
ImageInputStream imageStream =
ImageIO.createImageInputStream(/*File or InputStream*/);
java.util.Iterator<ImageReader> readers =
ImageIO.getImageReaders(imageStream);
ImageReader reader = null;
if(readers.hasNext()) {
reader = readers.next();
}else {
imageStream.close();
//can't read image format... what do you want to do about it,
//throw an exception, return ?
reader.setInput(imageStream,true,true);
int imageWidth = reader.getWidth(0);
int imageHeight = reader.getHeight(0);
reader.dispose();
imageStream.close(); -

Trying to upload from iPhoto to iWeb maintaining original image size
I've used Ofoto (now Kodak Gallery) for years and the images I upload are the image size and quality that appears. (Even though it's in thumbnail view.)
Now when I upload iWeb seems to reduce that size of my image dramatically.
I did load one photo at original size, but it was huge. When I used Ofoto the thumbnails were all small, but you could get a poster size print because the ultimate quality was there.
I'm wanting to do this so friends who wish to make enlargements after downloading images have a good quality and size to begin with.
Thank you for any insights...

Image Size Slider? better in iP5?
In iPhoto 5 the image size slider on the lower right of iPhoto worked really well. I could scroll from a lot of previews up to 9 in 3 columns, 4 pics in 2 colums, 2 pics in one column, and 1 fullsize pic.
The iPhoto 6 slider seems not to be that good. on my version it jumps from about 12 preview pics to 1. With nothing inbetween. Is there anyway I can change that back? Is this behaviour normal?
thanks,
stefan.Squigles:
When you use the scroll wheel on the mighty mouse, to move up and down through your photo collection, it's not fluid it's gone all jumpy and buggy.
Go into iPhoto's preferences and turn off animated scrolling in the Appearance pane. That may be what you're seeing.
EDIT:Nope, that only affects the scrolling when you click on the scroll column at the right. I'm using a Pilotmouse Optical with a scroll wheel so may be getting different responses to the scroll wheel than you are. My scrolls are smooth. -
I am using PS Touch from my tablet . I am importinga photo from an SD card . When all editing is completed I then send it wireless from the tablet via Epson I print to the printer. It all works great except that part of the photo at each end is cut off and does not print. I am printing on 8.5 x11 paper.
How do I convert the image size in PSTouch frm pixels to inches?Epson's iPrint has always been an oddball. It will always "zoom in" on an image to print even if you have the proper dimensions and resolution set for actual print size. I think other users have reported this, at least on Android.
You can't have PS Touch show inches instead of pixels at this time but you can use an online website to find out what you need to fit within a particular resolution. (Google "pixels to inches calculator".) -
I just got a new printer...Epson R3000...but have had this problem before. It's probably a simple fix, but I can't figure it out. I'm asking for printing on 8.5 x 11 and the image comes out 6.5 x 9.5 every time. Help please! And thanks!
The Epson site stated that the R3000 printer can print borderless however the quality will suffer in the expanded print area. Borderless is not supported on some heavy paper. To me the means your better off limiting you images size to the standard print area. There will be magins about 1/8" on the four sides so the print area on 8.5"x11" paper is 8.26" x 10.76"....
Take note of the print size set by the epson driver it may change depending on the paper type set. Note my first epson 4800 setup where I set 8.5" x 11" sheet paper from tray into the printer setting the driver set a smaller size for the paper which was reflected into the Photoshop Print preview. It shows paper is 8.499" x 10.999 with a small unprintable area across the top....
Paper
Use paper under normal conditions:
Temperature: 59 to 77 °F (15 to 25 °C)
Humidity: 40 to 60% RH
Note:
Since the quality of any particular brand or type of paper may be changed by the manufacturer at any time, Epson cannot guarantee the quality of any non-Epson brand or type of paper. Always test a sample of paper stock before purchasing large quantities or printing large jobs.
