Image Sizing to A4

Hi Guys,
I have a problem printing out on A4 in PS E8.
After I have cropped the picture sorted out the distortion colour balance etc. and get the picture looking how I want it, when I go to print preview the image is cut off to the side and can not print what I like.
If I just open a picture and go to preview that then everything fits in the frame and all would be fine, but in the image I want I have had no option other than to crop and straighten and this is where my problem starts to happen.
I have spent 2 days trying to sort this out and am pulling my hair out, with image resizing and PPI and nothing works. The only way I can get the printer to print out what image I want is to uncheck the constrain box and then the image goes tall and skinny.
Image properties: Doc sizes W29.7 H 11.32 Res 300DPI image size 13.4M
Pixel Dims W 3508 H 1337
I have both resample and the constrain boxes ticked.
Please tell me I doing something stupid or is my only option to print my image out to an A2 printer and then guillotine to the size but then it still would not fit the A4 frame I have!

Yes that is exactly what my print preview looks like. Is there anyway I can get it to fill all or most of the page allowing for a small border.
Am I just doing something that just cant be achieved?
If I want a nice A4 print will I really have to mount it in an A2 frame?

2) Yesterday I made the subclips with the In-Out Points and Command-U, the benefit is that I've seen the clip before naming it. Now I'm using markers, it's benefit is that I can write comment and (the later) clip name at once, the drawback is that I have to view to the next shot's beginning before knowing what the shot contains.
But now I found out that I can reconnect my clips independently to the format I converted the master clip to. I reconnected the media to the original AVI file and it worked, too! The more I work with, the more I'm sold on it... - although it doesn't seem to be able to read and use the date information within the DV AVI.
1) Ok, I tried something similar within FCE. Just worked, but the file size still remains. Which codec settings should I use? Is the export to DV in MOV with a quality of 75% acceptable for both file size and quality? Or would be encoding as H.264 with best quality an option for archiving, knowing that I have to convert it back to DV if I (maybe) wan't to use it for editing later? Or anything else?

Lightroom 5.3 Image Sizing in export not working as expected

When I export an image and specify the maximum dimensions in the Image Sizing section, Lightroom only honors the maximum width or height if both original dimensions are below the requested setting.
For example, I have an image with original dimensions of 2592x1936.
If I export using 1935x1935 in the Image Sizing section with option "Width & Height" or "Dimension", I get an exported file with dimensions 1935x1445. The "width" is properly constrained to the maximum value I've entered.
However, if I export using 1937x1937, the resulting exported file has dimensions 2592x1936--the original size of the image.
I've tried the same with an original image of 1936x2592 and get similar results.
Am I not applying this setting correctly?

There's cuurently a bug in the LR5.3 export process (been reported many times, and hopeful of a fix come 5.4). The bug is caused by having the "Don't Enlarge" option checked, so unchecking it will fix the problem. If unchecking it is a problem, see this thread for help:

Lr always uses three decimals for dimensions in the export dialog. So 22 cm is exactly the same as 22,000 cm.
Maybe you're used to a dot as a decimal separator, and a comma as a thousand separator? If so, it probably looks like 22 thousand cm to you.
Whether to use a dot or a comma for a decimal separator, is set in your computer's operating system.
On windows, Control panel > Region and language.

Problem with Export - Image Sizing

Hello, I'm running LR3 on a relatively new iMac. I am using LR to edit RAW photos from my Nikon D700 and one of the things I do is export to .jpg to put some photos on my website. To do this, each photo must be the same width and height, or it causes issues with the website.
For awhile, I was exporting images at dimensions of 960x636 with no issues. All of a sudden, when I use the export feature, and put in the Image Sizing section the 960x636 resolution, the exported file is at a resolution of 956x636 and therefore is not the same size as previously exported photos. I've tried changing some of the settings in the Image Sizing section (check/uncheck Don't Enlarge, Dimensions vs. Width & Height, etc.) and nothing seems to work. Any advice why LR3 is overriding my image size settings would be greatly appreciated.

When you specify the width and height on export, you are specifying a "box" that Lightroom will fit the image into. It will do the best it can, but if your cropped image doesn't have the same aspect ratio as the "box", then one dimension will be short. As an example, if you had cropped your picture into a square, how could Lightroom possibly completely fill a rectangle with it?
You need to crop your images to the same ratio as the 956 : 636 that you're specifying on Export.

Image sizing frustration in Lightroom 5.6

I need to export a jpeg "headshot" photo in the exact dimensions of width 1 2/3" X height 2" with 300dpi resolution. When I select "export"... I see a "image sizing" section. When I plug in the parameters... It only exports my original cropped photo. What am I doing wrong? Or what am I missing?

You need to set the file format to JPG (not Original) in the Export dialog box

LR 5 - Image Sizing Dimensions - wrong image size

Hi,
Image Sizing Dimensions produces wrong image sizes upon export for certain images.
Example, I have export set up for iPad resolution, 2048x1536px at 264ppi. If I now export an 3264x4928px image it should be resized to 1356x2048px. What I get is 1356x2047 instead, one pixel too short on the long side. This doesn't happen for all images source resolutions and ratios though. I haven't figured out the pattern yet.

The image has a resolution of 3264x4928. Exporting using Dimension resizing of 2048x1536 results in an 2047x1536 image.
The scaling factor 4928 down to 2048, is 0.4155844155844156...
Assuming that LR is working to only 3 decimal places here, which indications discussed in another thread would suggest, then there are several ways to achieve that:
truncate down to 0.415 by discarding the subsequent digits
"quick-rounding" of the third digit by inspecting the fourth-place digit only, and incrementing the third-place digit when the fourth-place digit is larger than 5, which it is not in this case, resulting in 0.415
"math-rounding" by inspecting all of the following digit pairs in turn, until you reach a pair that is lower than 50, and then working back again to simplify. This procedure rounds 0.41558 up to 0.4156, then after doing that, rounds 0,4156 up to 0.416
Speculation: the difference between 0.415 and 0.416, is the difference between a result with 2047, and one with 2048, when executed.
Most of the time the "quick-round" procedure will work out fine, also truncating will usually be good enough, assuming the above has anything to do with the reality (which it may not). Just occasionally, though, there'll be an error in the final digit, compared with what the theoretically accurate procedure would have given. So if I am right this is not strictly speaking a bug (something failing to execute as it has been designed to do), but the result of a software design choice. "Works as designed", iow .
It seems that LR, perhaps differently between versions, is working this through by simple calculation (from the front-end), without comparing the back-end outcome against what you have requested. How much this (intermittent) issue actually matters, is a question of judgement, and of particular requirement.
[ alternative method: I find the Print module, outputting to JPG, is completely reliable when it comes to making a standardised JPG as to the dimensions, as well as offering some different technical and design options, than what you get with Export. For one thing, you get the option of on-the-fly cropping to shape, which you can then adjust interactively where (as here) the image is a different aspect than the Retina display. So if you want it, you can fill the screen instead of getting letterbox, all without having altered your main (Develop) crop for that image. Alternatively, if you don't want the Zoom to Fill option (e.g. with landscape images to be shown in portrait orientation as part of a sequence) you can still make all your images to the same dimension, but controlling the appearance of the borders that are left (which become part of the image) ]

ps: AFAICT one would expect simple truncation to produce the appropriate answer half of the time; one would expect simple rounding to just one further digit, to be wrong half of the times when the following digit happened to be 5 - or to put in another way, to be right in 95% of cases; and proper rounding, examinng as many places as it takes, to be right 100% (within precision limits).

How do I modify the behaviour of "Image Sizing" Module in Export

As part of the export process I want to re-size an image to a fixed size e.g., 5400x3600. The iamge should be scaled symmetrically and therefore some fill-in of black or white may be necessary.
I know I can do this as a "post-process" action, but then I need to re-do sharpening, assigning colour profile etc.
So is there a way in the SDK to "replace" the "Image Sizing" Module with one of my own making?

You can disable the image sizing portion of the UI and use the updateExportSettings() function on your export service provider to force the image size to your desired size. (This function is not well documented. It takes a single parameter, exportSettings, which you may modify in place before the export starts.) For example (this would go inside your export service provider declaration):

However, there is not a way to get Lightroom to render a file that is cropped to a specific aspect ratio. Whatever sizing parameters are specified, we will always honor the aspect ratio of the source file. In your processRenderedFiles function, you could use a third-party tool like Mogrify to regenerate the output file with the fill necessary to satisfy the desired aspect ratio.

Export window: Image Sizing - "deselected": Resolution

If I have Image Sizing "deselected" - does the inputted "Resolution" matter?
I printed several photos and afterwards realized that I had "72 dpi" instead of 300 dpi.
But I did not have Image Sizing selected - so does that box selection/deselection affect output resolution or not?

The resolution is generally just a tag and quite meaningless. It hints at the final size of the image, but basically every application ignores the tag anyway and just displays the image at 1:1 on the screen or scaled down. It is only relevant to the export quality when you resize on export and specify a size in inches or cm. In that case your final image size will end up to be horizontal size(in)*ppi x vertical size(in)*ppi. If you specify a size in pixels, the tag is not used.
See for example here, or here for more. 72 dpi is not used for anything anymore. Most displays are around 110 ppi, but even that is irrelevant. Just think as digital images by their dimension in pixels and ignore the ppi tag.

and so started iDVD from scratch and here selected WideScreen
(FinalCut prior to Pro-X - can be tricky as You have to set the project into Anamorphic - In Browser window (column far to the right) and then drop them on TimeLine (can not be done other way around)

BTW - DVD is as Standard (whatever program Author the DVD) is ONLY - Interlaced SD-Video

Will not improve - but due to bad downscaling most often give a lousy result.
I get best possibly result by use of
• iMovie HD6 or FinalCut any version as they can work and Export this to iDVD - and My DVDs looks as I want them (as good as DVD can be)
• iMovie'08 to 11 - Can not do this as they discard every second line in the picture when going from Event's to Project's - and this can not be mended later.

Web pages image sizing

In exporting a set of images into web pages, can the individual pictures (each on its own page) be custom-sized?
I see how to size the small images in their array of rows and columns ("Fit images with:" etc), but can't see a way to size the larger images.

Go into one of the detailed pages; you should see a 'Detail - xx Pages' area under the overview of thumbnail pages, it should show a detail page. click on that, to preview the individual image page.
Or select one of the thumbnails in the overview and press the little curved arrow in the left top corner.
Then you can choose the 'fit image within' size for the individual/detail pages
To change the quality settings:
Aperture menu -> Presets -> Web presets -> Web Detail...

Image sizing using Safari

I post photos on the message board of a site that does not let you post HTML code (if it matters, the site says powered by pluck). To post a photo on the message board you have to either copy/paste or drag/drop from your photo hosting site to the message box. My photo hosting site is Picasa. When in Safari, I can right-click on one of my photos to copy and then do right-click paste in the message box board. However, the photo is not as large as I would like it. When I do the same thing using Firefox, after I paste the photo into the message box, I can click on the photo and handles appear around the photo that I can drag to resize the photo. Is there some way to get these sizing handles in Safari? I've tried pressing other keys when I click the photo, but haven't found a way to be able to resize. Is this something unique to Firefox? Thanks.

Before you start, go to Image>Resize>Image Size and make sure both images have the same ppi. When you drag an image in to another one, the bottom image determines the ppi for the entire photo. So if you have and object that looks the right size, but that file is 72 ppi, and you place into a file that is 300 ppi, your object will shrink way down in the new image.

Image sizing in behavior swap

my question concerning image size with using swap in dreamweaver. I am putting up a gallery and using the swap feature. I have the thumbnails but my images are different sizes that swap out to a div.
So the skinny images stretch out to fill the space.
I thought I read I could apply a size to the image within the code, but I don't know where it would go.

For some of the images I have gone back to Photoshop and backed the images with a larger canvas that fits the size
So the image is now 200 x200---But can I do with coding for the images? I want each image to be 100% within the div.

If that is the case, then the images will stretch (asymmetrically) to fit that space. If you don't specify the width and height, the browser will do the right thing.
With a string of images, it is usually better to have a common dimension (sizing the images in PS) so that all images are, say, 200px wide OR 200px high. but NOT both.

How do I find IMAGE SIZING?

A requirement for presentation of digital images (my camera club) is to submit the image to 1024 x 768 dimensions. I can not find this file in my iphoto software. I don't have any way to go to Image>resize>image size, I'm lost.

However, if you find the 4 JPEG Quality levels do not get you the file size you need with the quality you need you can export the full sized image to the desktop and use a file resizing application like Resize! to resize the image to the pixel dimension you need and the quality level to obtain 350 KB or less.

the user help About Images states:
"The size of the object that contains the URL defines the size of the image in the HTML output. Any elasticity properties applied to the object are ignored."
I've got an item of type Image URL and I'm unable to get images to display using their original size definition - Reports always apply its own sizing - resulting images are skewed
Is this a feature or can any properties be set to fix this??

Hi Pete,
I've got an item of type Image URL If the image is present on the local file system, then if you choose Vertical and Horizontal elasticity as variable, the images are automatically sized to their correct size. In this case, the Reports Server has access to the images while formatting the report, so it can leave appropriate width and height for the image.
However, in case the image is a web URL, then Reports Server (while formatting the report) does not get access to the actual images. So it does not know how much exact width and height should be left. So the only way out in this case is that you design the Image URL object according to the final size of the image. It means that at design time, you will have to manually compare the size of the object with the image, and resize the object accordingly.

Full Screen Slideshow image sizing issue

Hi all,
I am creating full screen slideshow for the first time.
I have added the slideshow into the DEISGN mode and it all looks perfectly fine. However, once I am in PREVIEW or PREVIEW IN BROWSER mode the image is at fullscreen but it seems to be zoomed in or cropped tighter.
The slideshow images are set to FILL FRAME PROPORTIONALLY. I have tried experimenting with different settings, page sizes, changing margins, changing header/footer guides, different image sizes etc... but no success.
I am on a 27-inch (2560 x 1440) IMAC.
help???
I have attached two images to show what I mean. Notice in PREVIEW mode how the image appears to be tighter/cropped/magnified.
