Image "Squeezed" when export to compressor and import to DSP

I've Edited and created many 4:3 movies and not had problems creating DVDs. This is my first HiDef footage that I captured in FCP as DV.
Looks good in letterbox in Final Cut. I exported to compressor in order to later create DVD in DSP. I made sure I exported using the 16:9 option with compressor. When previewing in DSP, the image looks "squished".
Am I not exporting it properly for what I need to do? Is there a setting in DSP that I need to change in order to create a 16:9 DVD?
Thanks in advance

First, you should bring your footage to DVD SP as 16:9 anamorphic, not letterboxed.
Setting preferences for a 16:9 project:
Open DVD studio pro.
If a project is open just close it.
In DVD SP preferences choose "Project" and make sure DVD Standard is set to 'SD DVD'.
Click apply.
Open the "General" tab and in the SD DVD Menus, Tracks and Slideshows dropdown choose '16:9 Letterbox'.
Click apply then the OK button.
You are now ready to create a new 16:9 project.
Import your footage and get to work.

  • Footage pixelated when exported with compressor

I've film HD video and edited with FCP, the aspec ratio on the sequence is 720x480 anamorphic, and it looks great, when I export it with QuicK Time it looks great but DVD Studio Prp doesn't support the settings. when I export it with Compressor, DVD Studio Pro imports it fine, but it is very, very pixelated.
What would be the best option to use when exporting with Compressor.
What I want is that the WideScreen image shrinks when viewing it on a Standard TV, I've done it with iDVD but when watching it on a standard tv is cuts the two sides of the image.
    Thank you for your help.

If editing HD material you would be best off editing in the HD timeline, size and Codec (not sure if you did that and then down rezzed?) SD DVDs used compressed video, so anything that compresses things more prior to the compression to an SD m2v (video used on DVDs) can lead to more of a quality hit.
Anyway what you would do is export the movie as self-contained movie, reference movie or directly to Compressor to a 16:9 m2v preset (including one you made yourself) and use that in DVD SP
Take a look [at this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11040698&#11040698] and [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11287710#11287710]
I outline the procedures a bit more and also include links to some movies and other information

  • IPhoto Slideshow Image Quality when export to IDVD

Aloha ... I have two issues that I am having problems with when I export to IDVD. My images look very fuzzy (originals are very high res and print quality images} when exported to iDVD and a DVD is made. Also in the show my vertical images look fine and fill the screen yet on iDVD they are made shorter/squatier and upper and lower parts of the original image are lost. The format is wide screen as is the show. I am using a LCD wide screen TV if that helps. Any ideas out there?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you cropping your photos to the 16:9 ratio before creating the widescreen slideshow in iPhoto and exporting them to iDVD for a widescreen project? Most digital camera images are in the 4:3 size ratio and don't convert well to the widescreen. Also check the aspect ratio that you're playing the dvd in as that can have an effect on how the slideshow looks.
Also remember that the images going to iDVD will be reduced to 640 x 480 (normal TV) and slightly larger for the widescreen version. So the pixel dimensions of the original image are not that relevant.
    Happy Holidays
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Severe anti-aliasing when exporting via compressor

Hello all, can't seem to find anything to answer this in a search, so any help would be much appreciated.
I seem to be getting severe anti-aliasing whenever I export anything from FCP to compressor. At first I thought the problem was with compressor, because everything looks and exports directly from FCP perfectly. But if I open compressor and import/open the exact same movie directly, compressor seems to do its job as expected, so I'm pretty sure I've narrowed it down to when I export something 'using compressor'
I've tried various different codecs and sequence settings including totally 100% uncompressed, I've also tried upping the bit rate and everything still comes out looking exactly the same.
I have a feeling I've accidentally changed some setting(s) somewhere (although I can't think where or how) because until a few weeks ago, everything worked just fine.
I think I'm going to have to re-install everything, which I'd obviously like to avoid, so if anyone has any advice or suggestions I'd be very grateful.
    Thanks in advance.

The anti-aliasing preference setting in both Illustrator and Acrobat is just a preview on screen.
If you're going to print it preserving the jagged nature you could apply Effect > Rasterize with appropriate settings in Illustrator, for example.

  • When exporting through compressor do you have too...

Was just wonder if when exporting through compressor does the TL have to be rendered first before you export through Compressor?
OR will Compressor render the TL out then proceed with doing it's thing?
    Thanks
    AM

would you recommend trashing all the render files with the render manager before exporting through compressor (something i never do. i always make self-contained QTs first then import to compressor)?
    Yes indeed.
In fact, that's exactly what I do. I do a Print To Video first - from a rendered timeline, obviously - but then I trash all the render files from that project and send the master timeline out to Compressor before I head home.
Personally, what I notice most is an almost total removal of the "mosquito noise" (seemingly) inherent in DV -> MPEG2 enocoding. If you're testing on DVD/TV setup using S-Video or Component connections, it's most noticiable. (again, in my experience)
Give it a shot and tell us if you see any improvement.

  • Audio Sync when Exporting Using Compressor

    Hello!
Having an odd situation. Project in FCP 4.5 the audio is sync'd just fine in FCP export using Compressor and the audio is delayed about 5 seconds...so the video footage starts and about 5 seconds later the audio starts. Now, in the same project I have other footage and exported the same exact way without issues - I have no idea why this particular footage would be an issue! Because Compressor is exporting these files with the audio and video as separate files I am seeing this issue when the file is in DVD Studio Pro - but again none of the other files that are being placed on this DVD are having audio alignment issues...so this is not making sense.
I am not 'new' at this but I am no expert either - my main gig is audio - so I could really use some help.
Any suggestions? I am not sure what other information someone would need to help so ask away.
    Thanks in advance!

Well I REALLY need some help with this one! I have tried so many different 'work arounds' without success. As mentioned in my first post the audio is not sync'ing with the video when exported. I have tried Exporting the file in QuickTime, I have tried using Compressor again exporting just the video then the audio - pulling it into a new session and lining it up again but everytime I pull it the newly exported file into a new project and render it FCP crashes not allowing it to render (nice!). I actually started from square one capturing the video footage again and assemble the project again without luck. I simply cannot believe what a pain in the arse this is!! I need to get this project done and it simply won't do it.

  • Can't select text when export in HTML and Images

I am entirely new to Fireworks and I can't find anyone to teach me Adobe Fireworks. I followed some youtube tutorials but most of them are vague. I am still figuring the way to export from Fireworks to Dreamweaver, without affecting its contents like bitmap images and the text. When I export in HTML and Images format and opened the htm file, I can't select the text I've inserted in Fireworks. Can anyone tell me what I should do?

I cant scroll below or above viewable section of text in any of my Macbooks, iMac, Mac Mini. Never have been able to, never could, except by pressing the arrow keys whilst selecting, to move up or down.
    Its stupid
I dont have flash installed (never will do since my first virus of video ad sound running in background from Cnet was downloaded and kept returning until i deinstalled flash).
I believe that this is a universal issue because none of my Macs can scroll out of screen when selecting text, which as a webmaster and developer, is a pain in the butt
My issue is not in word documents, its in everything

  • Weird file format produced when exporting to Compressor

I em exporting to Compressor from FCP to create an MPEG 2 video. In the past, it's always produced an "_MPEG - 2 Video_." Now it's creating an _"MPEG-2 ( which is followed by a bunch of Japanese symbols)"_. Don't know why this is happening. The default app to open is now a Droplet instead of Quicktime. Also when I try to export to compressor I am getting a message of "Selection contains no media." I am able to work around this, but this is coinciding with this other problem.
I also recall that some of my MPEG - 2 files that were created as QTs have been converted (how? I don't know, but I am suddenly recalling) to this weird Droplet format.
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi,
this rings a bell, anyhow, here something to try:
-Try to export as QT movie self contained (this will keep identical quality) from FCP and import that in Compressor.
-- Use [this little application|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] to trash preferences of bothj FCP and Compressor (note: with preference manager you can back up and reinstall your current preferences if you wished to).
Finally something I'd rather suggest if I had more info handy, however,
--- In Compressor's main menu>Compressor>Click on reset background process then resbmit.
    Any of all these help?

  • Image distortion when exporting

    Hi all,
I'm experiencing off and on problems when exporting RAW images from LR 3.3 to JPG. (on MacBook Pro Snow leopard 10.6.6)
I am using Camera Raw 6.3.
Original RAW images taken with Canon 550D.
    This is what happens:
    Original                                                                                           Result
It doesn't matter if I resize or not, change quality of the JPG, sharpen or not, whatever.
11 out of 140 images go wrong, the others are exported ok. Not every 11th image either.
Exporting 1 by 1 no difference.
What's wrong here? Has anybody had this before?
Maybe connected: I have taken a lot of pictures of an ice hockey game some time ago. During import I've seen that some of the images imported had a similar problem. During importing I first saw a normal image, but it was changed to something simular at the end. I thought that was the memory card, as I was shooting multiple shots, low light, high iso.
    Thanks in advance
    gr. Paul

In addition: I just switched in LR from "library" to "develop" and the image on screen switched from the before and after image in the original post!
I have edited this picture before in LR, have cut the paiting out of it's environment, no other corrections. Probably I edited this one with an earlier version of LR.
Changed to original image, only the crop boundaries disappear, same crazy image...
And now in the library too, of course.
Is it possible that when you copy pictures from one drive to another that RAW files get damaged?
As in copy from camera to diskdrive (import LR) or from internal drive to external drive (as I did from Finder)?

  • Any value in exporting iPhoto pictures and importing them into Aperture?

I am moving from iPhoto into Aperture (moving my library again actually) and I know that iPhoto and Aperture can share the iPhoto library once it has been updated but I am wondering if there is any value (or even if it is possible) to export all of the iPhoto pictures and import them into a new Aperture library?  The reason that I'm asking this is that I know there are a lot of duplicates in my iPhoto library and I know that Aperture keeps only the original.  A couple of weeks ago I moved my iPhoto library onto an external LaCie SSD disk to use with my MacBook Pro but unfortunately corrupted that library and have to make the move again.  If there is any value in changing how I'm managing my library I should do it now.
The library corruption was caused by me needing to leave for work and disconnecting the LaCie before Aperture was done sync'ing with my Flickr account.  When I tried to use Aperture the next day it was not able to repair/rebuild or use the iPhoto library at all.  I was unfortunately not backing up the external disk so I lost everything that I had done to clean up the library after the move.  One lesson that I learned was do not automatically sync with Flickr because doing this on an MBP via wireless with an external disk library can add a lot of delay to shutting down Aperture after an MBP wakeup.

Just in case you have not come across these:
Aperture 3.3: Using a unified photo library with iPhoto and Aperture
Aperture 3.3: How to use Aperture to merge iPhoto libraries
but I am wondering if there is any value (or even if it is possible) to export all of the iPhoto pictures and import them into a new Aperture library?
You can - an it will depend on what you want to achieve, if that will usefull. The way to do this would be by imprting your iPhoto library into an Aperture library using Aperture. But Aperture libraries and iPhoto libraries are now interchangable - both are photo libraries, and you could simply use your iPhoto library in Aperture and be done now.
Some reasons why you would want to turn your iPhoto library into a library recognized as Aperture library by importing it into a new, empty Aperture Library:
As long as the photo library will have the "Kind: iPhoto library", you will have to upgrade both iPhoto and Aperture always to the newest versions, or you will not be able to upgrade to a new library format, when a new release of Aperture comes - say (iPhoto '12 and Aperture 4); you will probably have to buy both new releases to continue working with your iPhoto Library in Aperture.
If the kind of your library is "Kind: iPhoto library", it will appear in the Media Browser in the iPhoto section, not in the Aperture section, even if you are using it as your Aperture library. And before syncing with iTunes you will always have to open the Aperture library in iPhoto to point iTunes to it.
Also, in Aperture you have more control about what will be included in your library - In iPhoto there is no way to specify the size and quality of previews. If you do not want or need previews, or you want smaller previews, or no Faces, it would make sense to recreate your iPhoto library by importing it into a new, empty Aperture Library.
If you have more than one iPhoto Library, you can merge them into one big Aperture library to be able to browse all your images without having to switch between libraries. Aperture works very well with really big libraries. There is no need to split libraries.
The reason that I'm asking this is that I know there are a lot of duplicates in my iPhoto library and I know that Aperture keeps only the original.
That is what I meant by having more control on what will be stored. iPhoto will always store a very high quality preview of your edited version; in Aperture you can decide what the preview size and quality will be. But Previews and originals are not duplicates; they are not the same image.

    Léonie
