Image Trimming CS3?

I'm using InDesign CS3. I need to (over the internet) submit up to 22 spreads for a school yearbook. This needs to be submitted on a school internet connection (which means that we have horrible upload speeds).
Last year, we had software from our publisher which let us trim images down to where we need them (the size they are put in at, and trimmed to 300 DPI). This year, the software is not offered.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Right now we are using full size images, and each spread is about 100 MB. There's absolutely no way we can upload over two gigabytes of data through a school connection.
I couldn't find anything that could trim the images to what is used in the spread and to 300 DPI.
Thanks,
Chris

Thanks for the answer, but unfortunately we have to submit the InDesign files so that they can add certain elements (e.g. dropping in portraits)

  • Processing Canon G10 RAW Images in CS3 and Lightroom 2.1

I've not found a post on point. If I've missed one, sorry.
Contemplating getting a G10. After research here's what I understand. Please, correct me if I am wrong:
    1. To process a G10 image in ACR, one has to have 5.2. One cannot use 5.2 in CS3. To process the image in CS3 one has to first convert to DNG. This can be done by way of a separate converter OR in Lightroom 2.1, on import.
    2. Lightroom 2.1 will process the image in either RAW or DNG formats.
So, since I own both Lightroom and CS3 -- I will be able to use ACR in Lightroom if I don't want to convert to DNG first.
    Am I right?
I don't want to buy the camera if I can't use my usual workflow.
    Thanks.
    sjh
PS. I think my CS4 Master Suite will arrive tomorrow. But, there is a lot of odd information about ACR and the G10 out there so I thought I'd take the time to clear it up and see if I got it right.

Lightroom 2.1 does NOT support native files from the G10. LR 2.2, which will be released in December will. So for both programs you need to use the Adobe DNG converter 5.2 to convert to DNG for the time being. It is unclear whether when you have LR 2.2 and CS3 installed whether "Edit in Photoshop" will work correctly with files from cameras such as the G10. It will always work fine if you use dng.

  • Loading an image into CS3 from Lightroom

Sorry to repeat this request but:
I am running Lightroom on a laptop with Windows Vista. If I make changes to an image in the develop module of Lightroom, and then right click on the image, go to Edit in CS3, and Edit a Copy with Lightroom adjustments, CS3 boots up but no image appears within CS3.
I did have both CS2 and CS3 on my hard drive. I removed CS2 with no benefit. I removed Lightroom, and re-installed a purchased version but still the same problem. Edit - Preferences - External Editing shows Edit in Photoshop CS3 and Additional External Editor Photoshop.exe. Trying this latter option to open the image in CS3 also fails.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks

Uninstall and reinstall PS CC 2014.  This fixes things for most people with this problem and there are many.

  • Error - Can't open more than one image in CS3

My Photoshop CS3 was working fine until all of a sudden it no longer lets me open more than one image at a time without crashing. Anyone else have this problem? How do I fix it?

    Hi,
There may be two issues you have to check:
    1) The " scratch disk" feature in photoshop(usually gets full). Go to preferences - performance. Also check how much RAM PS is using.
    2) Printer Communication: sometimes Photoshop is unable to communicate with the default printer(may be unstable drivers, out of date etc). Network computers also make some issues
If you want to read more about this follow this link:
    http://www.fluther.com/disc/22453/photoshop-cs3-not-opening-more-than-one-image-at-a-time/
They talk about the issues I mentioned here. Let me know if you found this information useful.

  • Problem with opening raw image in CS3 extended

I just installed my CS3 Extened on my new Windows 8 Desktop and when I tried to open a Nikon raw image I get an error telling me it's the wrong type.  How do I fix this ?  It was working on my Windows 7 computer.

This just started when I installed the CS 3 Extended on my new Windows 8 computer.  It only affects my ability to open Nikon D90 Raw files. Everything else (standard JPG) works fine. I also have NX Capture 2 from Nikon and it opens the RAW files fine.  I also have Adobe elements 9 and it opens the same RAW files without any problems.
The same problem developed when I installed the CS 3 on my HP laptop last year.  It still will not open raw files.
    Thanks

  • Can't load PNG images in CS3

I'm unable to load PNG images using Photoshop CS3. Whenever I attempt to do so, I get a message saying, "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."
Help on this matter would be much appreciated as I am fairly new to using Photoshop.

I am thinking it is a png file from fireworks.

  • Perfect image in CS3 overexposed in Lightroom

New user to Lightroom (1.1) - Windows XP; High spec PC; Apple Cinema Display (new last week) calibrated with Spyder2; I am used to developing photo images (Canon 1DSII) in CS3 and using layers instead of ND grad filters to bring out the sky etc. I was impressed by a brief demo of Lightroom, so bought it 2 weeks ago, but am now frustrated - I have developed images in L/R, exported to P/Shop, added another L/R develop of the same image as a layer, flattened the layers, saved as a new tiff (say "A"), reimported into L/R - (call that "B") (I had already tried the save in P/S and L/R will keep all that info etc) so its the same file (isnt it?) - the result is then that "A" looks perfect in P/S but overexposed in L/R. I have done screen prints of the P/S Histogram (nice bell shape) and the L/R Histogram (skewed to the right). What is going on? Should I give up on L/R and stick to P/S (and learn how to use Bridge properly for cataloging etc or even go back to the one Microsoft bought)? Other info - I checked the P/S colour space - it was Prophoto ("similar to L/R space" per the manual).

Fantastic - thanks Jao - resetting the reimported files development did nothing - but changing the prefs, "removing" the file from L/R then reimporting it, produces an image identical to the P/S one. If I then hit the "Auto" button in "Develop" it adjusts it to the overexposed image I had before. So the "Auto" is not as useful as it could be (maybe its good on DNG's but not on Tiffs?)! Thanks again - I can now continue with L/R, and attempt the long process of cataloging the last 3 years images!

  • Cannot open iphone image in cs3 (png)

I have a few images and they are from an iphone and in the .png format. I tried to open them in my cs3 photoshop but an error comes up (which is ridiculous by the way) - cannot parse the file..
    Anyone with a solution?
thanks (I did search by the way)

Since you are running CS3, it is not inconceivable that you may be running NAV (Norton Anti Virus) in an older OS.  NAV can cause that error and generate precisely that error message if you have NAV activated.
    Just a thought.

  • RAW images in CS3 won't open

I have just started taking RAW images with my Canon camera. I have several CR2 images on my computer that I would like to open in CS3. I am getting an error message that says "Could not complete your request, because it isn't the right document." Can someone please tell me what I need to change in order to get these pics to open in CS3 so that I can work with them?????
    Thanks so much...

Photoshop CS3 uses version 4.x of the Camera Raw plug-in, which opens raw files.
What camera is it?  Is it newer than your version of Photoshop?  Adobe may not have known about the raw format for your camera back then, and they stop updating the Camera Raw plug-in when they do the next major release (which would have been CS4 in your case)
The good news is that prior to that release, they do make updates to the Camera Raw plug-in.  You can find the list of supported cameras (along with a link to download the latest Camera Raw update) here:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4040
Look in the Camera Raw 4.6 ReadMe file for the complete list of supported cameras.

  • LR4 Unable to Process Some Images into CS3

I am running LR4 on Windows Vista. When processing images I first work in LR and then move them into CS3 for any final touches and final processing. Recently, when I attempt to move an image from LR4 to CS3, I get a message saying "LR was unable to prepare the selected file at .... for editing. It will not be opened." Interestingly this only seems to happen with images from the 5D MkII, perhaps also with the 40D, but never with the 1D MkIII. If I go back to the LR processed image later sometimes it will go into PS and sometimes it will be denied. Any thoughts on this?

    Noel,
    Will try to keep short.
I reinstalled Photoshop CS4 from the cd CS set. Did not uninstall first. Restarted PC and Photoshop. Still failed the same way with a 3001 image.
Did the following, changing one item in the Edit->Preference->GPU Setting. After each change, closed Photoshop, reopened, brought in 3001 image, restored original setting. 3001 failed each time.
    * Unchecked Enable OpenGL Drawing
    * Advanced setup: Unchecked Advanced Drawing.
    * Advanced setup: Unchecked Color Matching
Next went to the Edit->Color Profile.
Scanned thru options and saw in the Convert Options: Engine. It was set to Adobe (ACE). ACE was the module name in the error detail!
Only other option for this is Microsoft ICM. Changed to that, close/open Photoshop and 3001 came in no problem. So did the Nikon 3000, srgb IEC 61922 2.1 and Untagged. However, when briging in an Adobe RGB(1998) image Photoshop notes Profile Mismatch. It allows me to decide what to do (use embedded profile instead of workspace; convert color to work space color; discard embedded profile. and I choose use the convert color and it loads ok. At least it loads the image! Will use this approach for now. I need to get educated on color profiles!!

  • Lightroom 2.1 not opening images in cs3

I had 2.0 and read that there was a problem open images in to photoshop so downloaded 2.1 as it said this would sort it out but I still can't open in 2.1 had no problems at all in lightroom 1.

In case you are wondering here are the ACR updates.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Macintosh
I would suggest taking CS3 up to the most current Adobe Camera Raw version and see if that fixes it.

  • HELP - Export Transparent Image in CS3

There used to be a very useful function in CS2 under Help which was Export Transparent Image. What happened to that function in CS3 and how the hell do I export transparent image now in CS3?
Please help, this is quite urgent.
    Thanks.

I hear what you are saying Noel... But I came to these forums in good  faith  with a question about a tool I found useful that was no longer available. I  admit I let my frustration show in my first several postings about this because  in the other topic on this issue, one of  the staffers here even tried to say  the function did not even exist. That in  combination with the attitude that 'anyone that would use this function must have no experience' or should be  using Photoshop Elements did not strike me as either very helpful or polite. I  would never let one of my staff treat a customer who came to us seeking help to act this way. It is inexcusable and I saw from the other postings that I am not the  only one who feels this way.
Here is a selction of a few of the things she said to me... she seems to have  confused me with someone else?
"Dear same idiot who feels the need to use PM to continue an  ended/locked/deleted forum discussion,"
"There  is no point in continual messaging unless you feel it is some sort of  release for your mental condition. Your message is clear. I have no problem  comprehending your words. I simply disagree with your insane  beliefs. I  understand fully who used the function and why it  was removed. I was simply stating a fact and offering an alternative that  you seemed to ignore. I don't care if the function meant something more  to you. Nothing I can  do is going to bring it back or afford you any better  people skills.  You need to get over this... and get over me"
"I  just found the Google cache of the closed thread and realized that you   may not be the same idiot that contacted me earlier using a fresh forum   account. But that still does not make you any less of an idiot."
"The  question posed in the forum was "How do I export transparent images in   CS5 like I did in CS4?" The question was "viable" and answers were given  by  others and myself. Just because you do not like an answer does not  mean you  have to act like a child."
"The answer was not to beg Adobe to bring it back in a user to user  forum. If you want to communicate with Adobe, go to their feature  request form."
"If you were a designer for 30 years, you would have known how to make a  transparent file prior to the Help function that Adobe added for a  few versions. With that Help function gone, you should now have the  intelligence to craft an action to do the same thing with the press of a  button. It  is not really a challenge. If you need assistance, bring this topic  back  to the public forum. Your rude PMs are worthless to us both."
"I look forward to further discussion in  the public forum where you don't need to hide your personal problems in  PMs."
I find these kind of responses by a staff member of Adobe forums to abusive  in nature. Granted after getting this kind of rude response back to my  questions, I returned in like kind. I usually do not have these kinds of  interactions online, I find them childish and a waste of time. They do nothing  for the greater good of the forums and help no one. but I don't take kindly to  being treated with disrespect.
I hope this does not exemplify the tenor of communication here on Adobe's  forums. If so... it would be a shame, because Adobe has a great reputation in  our community. It would be a shame to let a few individuals tarnish it.
I for one would prefer that the person is question has no further  communication with me. I think that would be best for all concerned. Thank  You.

  • CS3 - Bridge Smart Object image to CS3 & Lab Color

I open an (NEF) image in Bridge, do some work, and open the smart object in CS3. When I go to Lab Color I get: “Changing modes can affect the appearance of smart objects. Rasterize smart object before mode change?” I don’t want this, correct?
After I choose “Don’t Rasterize” this dialog window appears: “Merge layers before mode change?” I choose no.
Within Channels (Lab Color) I go to delete “A” & “B” because I just want the Alpha Channel. However, I get “Flatten Layer?” and when I choose “No” I can’t delete “A” & “B.”
    Solution?
    ~ Much Thanks ~

I should say I am trying to learn this software and stumbling through Mr. Kelby's 7 Point System book.
I found my error.  I was highllighting the layers not clicking the eye icons off and on.
    Thanks for all who look.

  • Help!  problems savings images in cs3

We have CS3 on our U.K school network using XP Professional. Ever since it was installed we have been unable to save images as jpegs. You can either do Save or Save As, it doesn't matter as a dialogue box appears saying "file name .jpg already exists do you want to replace it?"  you have to click yes or you can't save it anyway. However, Photoshop doen't seem to save the image as a jpeg, if you hover over the image it calls it a "File" and Photoshop will not open it again. I have to go to "open as" and open the image as a jpeg that way.
We have CS3 installed on several P,C's and its the same on all of them. Does anybody have any ideas as to why this is happening?

I don't think it's an issue with file extensions being hidden per se. even if that's the case, the default association would list them as Windows Picture Viewer files or Internet Explorer files. the latter may offer a clue to what's going on: Because they can be internet files, JPEGs may have been restricted by your administrator and/or be under surveillance from security tools, which ultimately messes up anything you try to produce. I'd definitely talk to your admin/ teacher, if those regulations cannot be changed at least for the one directory where you store your files.

  • Insert images in CS3

    Hi,
I love the feature in Dreamweaver 8 that automatically
completes the image width and height in Code View. I've found that
it saves a lot of time because I don't have to go find the images
folder, look up the image, then type the dimensions myself.
Unfortunately, I absolutely cannot find a way to do this in
Dreamweaver CS3. I've been looking through the help, doing internet
searches, and browsing through here, but no luck.
Does anybody know how to fix this problem? I've had CS3 for
a while, but I really don't want to use it because of this. Any
    help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

Insert the image, and then click on the refresh widget on the
    Property
    inspector.
