Image with transparent background shows up with a white background in ID

Amateur needs help.
I have a copy of a logo with a transparent background.  I made the (white) background transparent in PS by creating a layer from background and then selecting the white color in the background and deleting it.  This has always worked in the past.  But when I place this image into ID, it shows up with a white background.  I have tried saving as a PSD, TIF, JPG, etc.  I cannot get it to work.
I normally research these things until I find an answer, but I am on a tight deadline.  Thanks!

I totally forgot to put that in my post.  Yes, I am putting logos with transparent backgrounds in front of colored rectangles.  That's how I noticed that this one logo is showing up with a white background.  The weird thing is that the other two logos are fine.  I did find a different version of this logo and this one works fine.  The one that works fine is a JPG and the one that shows up with a white background is a JPG.

  • Giving a black and white line work image a transparent background

I am working in Photoshop CS4 (mac).  Currently, the image is comprised of black line on a white background.  How do I go about giving the image a transparent background?

A day later, I have still not figured out how to accomplish what it is I am trying to do.
I have not yet tried what you have suggested in the last post and am about to go at it once again.  I should mention two things.  1. My  goal is to drop this image into InDesign (cs4) when completed. 2. The image has interior space betwen the line work/image itself that I would like to contain transparency.  Not sure if I am being clear here. The issue lies in when I actually drop the image into InDesign.  While the image appears to already have a transparent background, once it is dropped into InDesign, the image then assumes an opaque/white background.

  • How I could find that an image have transparent background

  • White image on transparent background

I have an image with white components which I want to save as
a gif with transparent background but fireworks wants to export the
white as transparent. Is there a way round this? Many thanks,
    Alex

Two options come to my mind:
    1) Set the transparency to No Transparency as Alex said. Then
choose a background color that you do not need as a color as well.
Then in the optimize panel, look in the bottom left and notice the
three buttons with checkered backgrounds. The one with the plus
icon lets you choose a transparent color by hand. Select that, and
    click the background color.
This way you can make the transparent be any color you want.
The problem with this is it might be hard to find a color that
isn't also in your image, and you might not *want* to change the
background color(since this will affect your image possibly).
    2) Use 'Alpha Transparency'. This is usually used for image
formats, like PNG, that support full alpha transparency, but you
can use it with a GIF in a way to: set your canvas background to
Transparent(no fill), then choose Alpha Transparency for you GIF.
Notice that now in Preview mode that only the background is
transparent. You can then control the "matte" color in the Optimize
panel to simulate as if there was a solid background color for
    semi-transparent areas, since semi-transparency can't be in a GIF
it has to make it a solid color blended against a background
    color.

  • Newbie - problem cleaning up image on transparent background

I have a purple graphics file of a logo - created with a transparent background.
The problem is that there is an unsightly splash of white specks across some of the logo extending out into the transparent area.
I'm new to Photoshop and have been trying various things to no avail.
    1) Because I found the checkerboard background to offputting I eventually figured out how to create a colour filled layer and set this as a background to make it easier on the eyes to try and edit - not sure if this was a sledge hammer to crack a walnut!
    2) I've selected both layers - the graphics plus the yellow solid background layer
    3) I've watched some tuturial videos that mention the "Spot Healing" tool ... I've tried this but it doesnt seem to do anything, certainly doesnt remove the white specks
    4) I've also found some references to the "Clone Source Panel" - I eventually found this to select essentially nothing (ie transparency) to replace the white patches - but again nothing happens.
    5) To check I wasnt going completely mad I selected the "eraser" tool and this works in as much as it removes yellow from the yellow background layer
Please can someone advise where Im going wrong thanks.
    Hope it makes sense.
    Regards!

The eraser is removing the yellow because the background layer was also selected. Make sure only the layer to want to edit is selected and nothing else.
If you get stuck, post a screen grab of photoshop with the layers panel open. Then we can give you better ideas.

  • Is it possible to import an image w/ transparent background from photoshop?

    Hello,
I was wondering if it's possible to import an image which contains a transparent part of it into Motion, so I can later add in images and videos underneath that layer.
    Thanks for your time.

    hi again,
there are two ways to do this. In Photoshop you can elect to have a transparent background, if you erase your image to show the chequered background, Motion will do the same.
Or from within Motion you can apply a mask to an image to have it show whats underneath. Apply the mask using the mask tools in the toolbar to the image, then step over to the Inspector, hit the mask tab and select the type as subtract. That will punch a hole in your image revealing whatever is underneath it.
    thanks

  • "Stuck" Image in Transparent Background

    After Effects 11.0.2.11
    Mac OS 10.7.4
A "ghost" frame from an old movie is stuck in the transparent / checkerboard background.  Always the same movie / frame.   Even in a new comp without any layers this old quicktime movie shows up.  Was a moving movie, this ghost effect is now just a single still frame.   Put one item in the comp and it disappears.  Turn off the eyeball for all of the layers and the ghost image comes back.
Does not show up in final renders .. yet.   Mostly in just (Auto / Half) rez comp viewer previews.
I've tried deleting prefs.    Cleared disk cache.    Cleared Conformed Media Cache.  Restarted the program.    Restarted the computer.      It's been like this for weeks.
Now it has started showing WITH other layers "on".  This is new.   Makes it tough to work.
IT department says they have no idea, that "we'll have to wipe your entire computer" but before going THAT route wanted to see if anyone else has ever had this problem and if they've discovered a solution.
    Thanks,
    Marc
In these examples below this "rooftop scene" not only isn't supposed to be in the image, it's not even in the AE project file.
Here it is actually with other layers set to "on" which has never happened before:

    Hello People out there!
I am facing the same issue
Since a few days I have a very annoying ghost issue in After Effects. (cc 12.2.1.5)
I really have no clue what the problem is and how I should solve it.
Sometimes, when I set the opacity of a layer to 0% I can still see it. It is like a ghost. Even if I turn the little eye off or delete it, the Footage/Ghost won't go away.
I also tried to Empty the cache (while disabling refresh) and cleaned the database and everything, but the problem is still there.
(Also when I restart After Effects or my whole computer)
Sometimes it even shows me, that my ghost is part of another footage (while soloing layers), but I already checked that footage while revealing it in composition and checking the footage in the explorer. I also tried to safe it to a different filetype and relink it, but it was still not working.
Here a a few pictures of my problem below:

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/.../ae_issue3.jpg
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/.../ae_issue4.jpg
Sometimes, when I scrup with the slider through the composition it appears and disappears and when I loose my click, it is sometimes there and sometimes not.
It is even in my rendering, which is really bad because, because the video is due tomorrow :S...
Das anyone of you know if I did something wrong or if it is a programm bug?
I am really desperate right now!

  • Transparency issues with images over color backgrounds

I have a transparent .png that I place over a color background. When I do this, there's a slight discoloration in the image's transparent background. As a result, it looks the image really isn't transparent, but has a slight white background. I can't seem to get rid of this and have tried for days. Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks Robert. You're a lifesaver. This trick totally worked. You saved me a huge headache. I appreciate it.

  • Trying to create transparent background on line art image

I have an image that's black line are over a white background. I'm wanting to make that background transparent, and then lay it over another image so that only the dark lines show.
I've tried making the background of the line art image transparent, and then Placing that image on top of the other image, but it came in with a white background. I'm looking for the full photoshop version equivalent of where you could select the background color, and set it to transparency.
Also, give I have the line art image already placed on the background image, if there's a way to change the transparency of that image, that would be even better.
I'm going by instructions on the support page "Change the background color of a document", but I'm not sure where it is I open the Fonts window.
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

If you want to create a blank file with transparent background, go to File>new>blank file, then select "transparent" under Background Contents,
If you open an image with a white background, the Background layer is a locked layer. Duplicate the background layer; it will titled background copy layer
Now, shut off the visibility of the background layer. Then, access the magic wand tool, click on a white area, and hit delete on the keyboard. On this tool''s option bar, you will have to check or unckeck contiguous, depending on the configuration of background/foreground interface. The tolerance setting may have to be adjusted for optimal results. The checkerboard pattern denotes transparency.
If you save your file, be sure to select a file type that supports transparency.

  • Making a image have a transparent background

I was given a image and asked to use it as a logo for a website. It is a black image with a white background. How do I get a transparent background so I can post the image on a web page and only see the image and not the white background it has? I am using photoshop elements 5.0. Thanks.

For me, best solution for extracting an image from its background is using a terrific plug-in for Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. It's called GML Matting. It's free, functions flawlessly and you can create some amazing images with it. I save the extracted images with transparent backgrounds as PSDs.
You can download it here: http://research.graphicon.ru/image-processing/gml-matting-6.html
Select the latest version from the menu. After it's installed, you'll find it at the bottom of the Filters pull-down.
    I've used it with Elements 2, 5 and 7.
How well does it work? You can decide. I took two photos, one of my Jeep parked in a parking lot, overlooking a quiet bay. Then I took another photo of the rough surf on the ocean side of the island. Using Elements 5 with the GML Matting plug-in, I extracted the Jeep and its shadow and dropped the image onto the photo of the surf. It took about 30 minutes to clean up edges (using various Elements tools). When completed, the resulting image is virtually impossible to detect as a composite.
    Here's the finished image: http://home.att.net/~historyworld/OceanBeachJeep.jpg
You can see a review of the plug-in and see the images to create my composite by scrolling through the linked thread below (on the Photocamel forums). http://photocamel.com/forum/image-editing-color-management/48945-free-background-removal- software.html

  • Inserting images with no backround

hi, i'm creating a simple webpage with a few pictures.i know how to insert images but the problem is that DW always inserts an image with a white background or any background i have set before exporting edited image from PS or any other image editor. i need to insert a picture with a blended stroke, i mean a picture which is cropped through curves and then its stroke is blended. even though i set no background, the image is exported in white background and DW recognizes it this way. i hope you understand what i have in mind. to illustrate it i need to achieve something like this:
that yellow background is a background of my website and the flower should be inserted the way you see.
    thanks for your help

Below, I made a Twitter icon in Photoshop on a transparent background layer, denoted by the gray & white checkerboard.  See screenshot.
File > Save for Web.   Select PNG-24 with transparency.
    See screenshot.

  • Photoroll transparent png shows thumbnail of deleted images

    Hey,
Recently I discovered a strange bug in iOS5:
I deleted all of my photos from the Photoroll and after a while I
    downloaded a png file which was transparent at some parts of the image;
Where the image was transparent it showed thumbnails of images that wheren't there.
    Rebooting iPhone didn't help.

Out of curiosity, do you manually enter your iPad's DCIM folder to delete photos (through Explorer or Finder)? I do occasionally and I also have this problem.Has anybody NOT touched the DCIM folder and still experiences this problem?

  • People against transparent backgrounds?

If you look at this design firm's site, the home page has a lady walking around in front of a transparent background so other graphics can show through.. can anyone tell me what the technique is to do this? Obviously you video the subject.. against greenscreen?
    http://www.seattledesigngroup.com/

Hamanth thanks for your reply...   I not sure if I'm doing something wrong. Let me know.    I set the stage in edge to "0" transparency.
On publishing the OAM file I tried both transparency option on ond off.   When published off I see my content
image with a white background in Muse. Preview in Muse and it works.   When I publish OAM file transparency  on
I see a totally empty container.   When previewed in Muse my animation shows up.
I would like to place my animation in Muse and see my content on a transparent background.

  • Paint - set transparent background?

Can anyone tell me how to set an image (.gif) transparent background in Windows 8 Paint (ver. 6.2)?  Been scratching head for a couple of hours now but can't for the life of me see how to set a transparent colour.  I'm sure that the XP version
    of pint allowed this.
    Thanks,

There is a way! it is now hidden in a ribbon command.
Under the Image section of the ribbon, click the "Select" drop-down menu. The bottom command is called "Transparent Selection" and it can be toggled on or off.
Just like the older version of of paint, the Color #2 is the transparent color (so you could remove a white or black background, just make Color #2 white or black, respectively)
FYI, the other command I had a hard time finding was to make the canvas bigger/smaller (but not shrink/stretch the image). It used to be called "Image attributes" but now you go File>Properties, and you can adjust the size there.
Would you PLEASE walk me through it ?  I have this jpeg, I have always see the Transparent deal under "Select", but I do NOT know HOW to "select" the background to make it transparent?
    Please help and Thanks.
