Imageready 7.0 imagemaps in Photoshop CS3

I work at a company where we have occasional need to publish web pages to our intranet which have irregular shaped slices as links to other pages.
Previously we always used the simple rectangular slice in Photoshop 7.0. Sometimes I would switch to Imageready to make irregular shaped image maps with links to other pages from them.
We have recently "upgraded" to CS3 and I only have access to Photoshop CS3 and Bridge CS3. Upgrading to CS5 is not an option unfortunately.
I have psd files which were last saved in Imageready and contain imagemaps with links in them and all had nice little rollover actions.
Now, I need to use the existing file and links and add a few new imagemaps and links to it using Photoshop CS3.
My understanding from a brief Google search is that I can not actually do what I need to in Photoshop CS3 and in fact need to have Fireworks or Dreamweaver.
This posses a few problems for me:-
1) Can I open the old imagready file which conatined imagemaps and links in Photoshop CS3 so that I could maybe make simple slices for my new links whilst maintaing the old links based upon the irregular shaped imagemaps?
2) Am I correct in thinking that I can not make irregular polygonal imagemaps/hotspost in Photoshop CS3?
3) If this is the case what would you suggest is the best option to an occasional Phothops user such as myself with no current skills in Dreamweaver or Fireworks.
Any suggestions are much appreaciated.

Learn HTML and CSS? Seriously, image maps are just coordinate lists and can be hacked in any text editor, if no UI-based tools are available and that is perfectly doable just with basic HTML as is any stuff with simple links. Of course you can find quite a few free web design tools such as Mozilla's SeaMonkey, so failing other alternatives, it may be worth a try...

No.

Yepp.
Again, learn HTML for what you need. You're falling victim to the old misperception that any of this would be dependent on specific tools and features, when all it requires is to understand the specification.

  • Imageready cs2 to photoshop cs3 file conversion

    hello;
when opening a Imageready file with rollovers in Photoshop CS3 you only get the "normal state"
anybody knows of an app or plugin that would convert all old rollover states in a way PS CS3 understands?
    thanks
    Alex

"Will there ever" is a loaded question Apple rarely comments on future product releases, and anyone that would know wouldn't be able to comment.
So it's not possible to say if future dodge & burn (or other plugins) can work without rendering a TIFF file.
As far as "multiple file formats" though -- it shouldn't really be something you need to worry about (other than the fact that the TIFF takes up some disk space). You can export to JPEG from the original or the version, and Aperture will track the files together.

  • How to get ImageReady CS slices into Photoshop CS3??

I have several website interfaces designed in Photoshop CS and sliced in ImageReady. I update these sites weekly and need to work within the established slice areas. I now have Photoshop CS3 and none of the slices come with the file when opened thanks to Adobe dropping ImageReady.
    Am I missing something here?
Please help. Updates long overdue to these websites while I try to figure out this problem.
    Thanks.
    Kirk

The slices are for the entire interfaces on database-driven ecommerce sites, so when a product photo changes, etc. I need to replace it and the new one needs to be the exact same size obviously. Given that the interface is built by the database, the various areas that make up the interface (page top, side navigation, etc.) are not in a single document. This makes the option of redrawing all the slices and getting the resulting HTML back into the database very unattractive.
Isn't there some way of getting the existing slices out of ImageReady and into CS3 or Fireworks? Export as something and bring in as slices? Something?
    Thanks.

  • How to open animated .GIF files in Photoshop CS3 and newer

Q: Since ImageReady is long gone from Photoshop, how can I open animated GIF files in Photoshop CS3 and newer?
    A: File -> import-> video to layers.
In the dialogue box type "*.*" to show all file types.
Select your GIF file and which frames to import.
They will now be available in your animation palette.

    Zeno
curt y, sorry for the late reply, I tried that but I doesn't work. I have to choose at least two files in the Load Layers window in order for the OK button to be available and then some action script uses the different files to make layers and merges them but not from the frames of the gif file. I can undo through the script to see what it did but it never accessed the frames of the gif file, just the first frame. Choosing "make frames from layers" in the animation palette only puts the original files into layers - that is only the first frame of the gif file.
I guess I'm out of luck with the 64  bit version of Photoshop as Zeno suggested :-(
What program would you people suggest for opening each frame from gif files?

  • Photoshop CS3 gives me an error "not compatible with his version.."  when trying to reopen files

Photoshop CS3 gives me an error-
"Could not complete your request because this file is not compatible with his version of photo shop" when I try and reopen psd's or layered tiffs,
it usually happens to files over 1gb in size,
I can open them up in illustrator but not in photo shop,
this is very annoying, it also happened today in CS2

"could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop"
We've just had te same problem with a PSD file, it could not be opened by Photoshop CS nor CS3, and ImageReady showed the layers empty. So we downloaded The GIMP to give it a try. It took a extremely long time for The GIMP to open the 500MB file, but it did, without throwing error messages. Some layer masks were interpreted incorrectly, and the color profile tag was ignored. But at least the project could be saved to a new Photoshop file, which was opened by Photoshop without error messages except for the color profile tag.

  • Photoshop CS3 need image rollover assistance/save for web

I just installed Photoshop CS3, was disappointed to see ImageReady gone but not worried.
I updated an old rollover file with new wording and went to save the slices as I had always done in the past - with ImageReady, it would automatically save the file as a standard name (file.gif) and the rollover type (file-over.gif)
Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to do this in CS3 without ImageReady. I bought the design premium version so I don't have Fireworks. Does anyone know how to do this process in PS CS3?

    Misty,
PS CS3 doesn't support rollovers. So you have to:
    - recreate rollover effect in Photoshop
    - save "over" version of your image under different name
    - recreate rollover code in Dreamweaver or other HTML editor

  • Photoshop CS3 is slooooow

Adobe Photoshop CS3 is really slow compared to CS and it isn't the printer. Even after install on a fresh XP install it was slow. I'm running a fast computer with 3 Ghz Pentium D with 4 mb cache and 4 GB of ram....Photoshop should zip along.
Does Adobe plan to address this?
Also, the droplet function in CS3 really, really sucks! I never did figure it out and didn't want to spend 5 hours working it out so I reinstalled Imageready.
Photoshop CS3 has some Ok interface enhancements but I'm honestly tempted to go back to CS.

For most people it was lighting fast but, since we've been on CS4 for nearly a year, don't expect any changes to CS3.

  • Photoshop CS3 export to Flash CS3

I have checked the adobe site, and the lynda.com site and
still can't find a way to export from Photoshop CS3 to Flash CS3 so
that all of the layers are imported into flash on individual
layers. I have found how to do it with CS2 using imageready but
that is no longer an option in CS3. Can anyone help? I have a flash
project on hold because of this one.
    Thank you...

I have tried saving the file from Photoshop CS3 as a PSD and
then importing it into Flash CS3. You get all the layers but not
the drop shadows. The drop shadows are there but as a part of what
ever they are shadowing, they are not a separate layer. Also using
CS2 and Imageready I could get the layers to be named the same as
my file name automatically so each layer would end up with a unique
name instead of layer1 and layer2. Is there still a way to do it
the way we used to or something similar so that everything is on
its own layer including drop shadows and the layers in flash are
automatically named for you on import?

  • PhotoshopNews: Adobe Photoshop CS3 at a glance!

    http://photoshopnews.com/2006/12/14/adobe-photoshop-cs3-at-a-glance/
Even more content out there now on the home page of PhotoshopNews.com

I haven't been able to download CS3 yet, but the Martin Evening pdf (thanks for the link!) has what looks like a piece of great news buried in it:
"For example, before you first had to create an empty new document with the exact pixel dimensions before you could place an image (such as a raw file) as a Smart Object. With Photoshop CS3, you can now place a raw capture file as a Smart Object layer in a single step."
If I understand this right, it means that the functionality of the old Dr Brown Place-a-Matic script is now available from Aperture. We can -- or this makes me hope we can -- send a RAW from Aperture to PSCS3 for editing, and then Place the same image, perhaps twice, as a Smart Object, edit away, and when we Save get the whole edited image back in Aperture without going through the Finder.
I used to use this (from Bridge) all the time to double-expose RAW shots: adjust the sky to one exposure and the ground to another, masking to get both into the final image, all without messing with the pixels of the RAW image. I've missed it. Whoopee.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 Image Processor not converting files to sRGB Profile

I have been experiencing a problem with Photoshop CS3 Image Processor no longer converting profiles to sRGB.   It converts all of the files from Camera Raw to JPEG, but not sRGB as well.  I used to be able to batch convert an entire folder of RAW images to JPEG, sRGB through the Image Processor.
My Photoshop CS3 Working Space is Adobe RGB (1998).  I need to convert an entire folder of images selected in Bridge to sRGB working space in order to publish a photo album from one of the on-line publishing companies.  I can open each individual Camera Raw file in Photoshop and convert each to JPEG, sRGB, but this takes a tremendous amount of time.
The following procedure has worked for me in the past, but for some reason no longer works:
I select the images in the desired Bridge CS3 folder.  Upper tool bar, "Tools" > "Photoshop" > "Image Processor".  In Image Processor:
Section 1 - ""Process files from Bridge only (11)"  Whether or not I place a checkmark by "Open first image to apply settings", it makes no difference in the outcome.
Section 2:  "Save in same location"
Section 3 - "Checkmark by "Save as JPEG, quality 12".  Also a checkmark by "Convert Profile to sRGB"
Section 4 - Checkmark by "Include ICC Profile"
I replaced my iMac one month ago and reinstalled Photoshop CS3, but this Image Processor problem had been occurring even with my old computer.
Not sure if you need this information:
I'm currently on Mac OS X Version 10.6.4
Processor:  2.93 Ghz Intel Core i7
    Memory:  8 GB 1333 Mhz DDR3
I don't know if it's related,  Photoshop CS3 on my old computer was running in Rosetta.  I don't know if it's running in Rosetta now, the name does not appear when Photoshop boots up.  How do I get it to run in Rosetta again?

Heh heh heh.  It's always true that we find the answer just after making public our problems, which in turn we did after trying to find the problems ourselves for hours.
Thanks for following up with the answer.

  • How to install Camera RAW update for Photoshop CS3?

I know this is an ancient version! But for now it's all I need. Anyway...
My Adobe Updater says "No Internet connection.  Please check your Internet settings and/or firewall.  Waiting for connection..." That's the first problem.  I figured out how to manually update Photoshop and Bridge, but Adobe Updater still shows this message when trying to check for updates.  Also, I've tried to update Camera Raw from 4.0 to 4.6 and I can't figure out how to manually install it.  I knkow the website says to do the following:
    Mac:
Exit Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Bridge.
    Open the Finder.
Navigate to the root of the local disk (not the user’s home folder).
    Navigate to Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/File Formats.
Move the existing plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensureyou keep this version in case you need to revert back.
Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw, from the download into the same folder as in Step 4.
Launch Photoshop CS3 or Adobe Bridge.
I manually entered "Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/File Formats" and it says this folder doesn't exist.  Can anyone help me update my camera raw?!
    Thank you so much!

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 MSI Error

    Hello,
I have been getting the wierd error when I try to install Adobe Photoshop CS3 using the MSI package that I created.
Could not write value data to key \SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\Handshake\{GUID}. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personel.
This error happens regardless of who is trying to install the MSI pacakage (regular account or Administrator). I even tried to give explicit permission to the regkey, however OS prevents me to do so. I would really appreciate if any of you have seen this error and guide me.
    Thank you in advance.

"using the MSI package that I created."
Have you tried installing without that, it may be a problem there.
    "regular account or Administrator"
Have you tried creating a new account or using the actual 'Administrator' account (not an account with Administrative permissions)?

  • Can't open ANY photos in Photoshop CS3

I cannot open any photos from my iPhoto or Aperture in Photoshop. When I attempt to do it, the images refresh and then it crashes, asking me to send an error report. When I click on an image that I want to open, the OPEN tab in the bottom right corner does not highlight either or allow me to click on it. This has been happening for over 10 tries.
I did delete my preferences as suggested by another user but no luck.  Please help!!

No, she means going in the blue Apple menu > system preferences, going to the accounts pane, and creating a new user there. Then log in as that user and see if the error persists. If it doesn't then it was something corrupt in your account.
