Images are becoming corrupted.

HI, I have a PowerMac G5 circa 2005. And something screwy is happening.
But basically, my images are becoming corrupted. I'll be looking through images with Preview and all of a sudden, part of the images will turn a different color such as green, yellow, magenta...
When I save in photoshop and re-open, a line will appear in part of the image that is slightly darker or lighter.
Here are my computer settings. I am running OS 10.5.8
Model Name: Power Mac G5
Model Identifier: PowerMac7,3
Processor Name: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
Processor Speed: 2.3 GHz
Number Of CPUs: 2
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 6.5 GB
Bus Speed: 1.15 GHz
Boot ROM Version: 5.2.4f1
I few months back I changed the harddrive, so I know it probably not that. I read somewhere that I may need to replace my PRAM battery... I reset the PRAM, the problem hasn't re-occurred yet but it may just be a matter of time. Or perhaps a new graphics card... Anyone else have the same issue?
Thanks

Sounds a bit like a Video card or RAM issue.
Get Temperature Monitor to see if it's heat related...

And/or iStat Pro...

If you have any temps in the 70°C/160°F range, that's likely it.
I'd replace the PRAM Battery, 4 years is close to their lifespan, far less if ever without AC power...

  • My RAW images are becoming corrupt when opening with Adobe Bridge, showing very bright colours.

Windows Vista, Canon 20d, Dell PC.
Happens to older images not new ones.
Have a raw thumbnail codex installed.
    Any help much apreciated
    Example attached.
It isn't happening to all images though:

The raw codec doesn't affect Bridge/ACR, only Windows Explorer and applications which use the codec, like Photo Gallery.
The corruption you show is pretty extreme. It's usually the sort of thing you get with a corrupt display profile (Bridge is fully colour-managed), but if that was the case, I would expect it to happen with all of your photos, not just some.
You show the Preview panel is corrupted, but what about full-screen and Camera Raw previews?
What happens if you reset an image to camera raw defaults, with bog-standard settings and an Adobe Camera Profile?
The only other obvious problem I can think of is graphics drivers.
Which versions of Bridge and Camera Raw are you using?

  • Non-iTunes downloaded songs are becoming corrupted, starting with album art

I have Windows Vista, and I just got a new refurbished iPod touch 64gb 5th gen.
For some reason, songs that I have downloaded (not from iTunes) are becoming corrupted?? some are even old songs I have downloaded months ago but most of this seems to be with songs stuff I haven downloaded recently. This literally just happened yesterday. The album art is showing up on iTunes as half downloaded or with a broken, glitchy bar after I sync to my iPod. Then, most of those songs are corrupted, making those skipping noises in the song. What is even stranger is that most of these messed up songs are ONLY messed up on iTunes, on my iPod they're fine, but then some of them get corrupted on both. I use a "Passport" EXTERNAL hard drive, could there be a problem with that?? Everything I have downloaded is saved to that external hard drive and like I said, even some of the old songs I downloaded months, even years ago are having the album art problem and some of them the sound quality corruption.
I tried restarting and re downloading iTunes hitting the "repair" option, but I think this may be the external hard drives problem?
Does anyone know what I should do? Am I asking this question in the correct place?

I can't seem to get album art to download into some of my songs. I compare my song information with the information that's in the iTunes music store & it matches word for word but it won't download the art. I can understand if iTunes didn't have the album but they do & the art wont download at all. I click "get album art" so many times & nothing shows up.

  • Jpg files are becoming corrupt

I am a photographer with thousands of photos on my external hard drive. Over the past month or so, I have lost access to many of my jpg files. The icon no longer appears with a thumbnail of the photo... only the icon appears with the title of the file. I can't open these files with the Preview, and my Photoshop can't open them either. The message I get is, "Couldn’t open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."
    Questions:
    1. What can I do to stop this from affecting more of my photos?
    2. How can I recover the jpg files that are lost?

Leopard should be able to read and write to the Fat32 drive. However some programs like Aperture do not support Fat32. Not sure if that's also a problem then for Preview.

Were you successfully reading and updating over a period of time and then noticed you had a problem with 'empty' files or has it been this way since you attached the PC drive to your Mac? If it just started happening, what were you doing with those files or any files on the drive? It may not be the files, but possibly the directory that is at fault and can't find the file content.
Just for your information if you ever add a new drive or reformat the drive to be the recommended Apple format, ensure it is partitioned GPT (GUID Partition Table) and formated HFS+ (Mac OS Extended Journaled). Of course you'll want to copy everything somewhere (do you have a PC that might successfully access the files?) to back things up before you reformat!

  • Png/jpg images are becoming distorted when placing into Muse

    Hi,
I have a problem in Muse.
I've made a logo/text in illustrator, saved for web either as png or jpg and when I placed it in Muse it right away became distorted.
Sort of, like you're using a small image and enhance it to much.
Does someone know an easy way to solve this. I'm quite new with these programs, so I'm thinking maybe I'm doing something wrong?
    Best regards,
    Dennis

Can you supply screenshots of your image in Illustrator and then another image with it in Muse?
If you try resizing the image in Muse you can get distortion if you don't keep the same aspect ratio in the height and width. Always best to make sure your image is the correct size in height and width before adding it to Muse or any Web editing program.

  • Time Machine Sparce Image becomes corrupt

About once per week, the Sparce Image from my Time Machine backup of my iMac G5 becomes corrupt, and I have to delete it and start over to make Time Machine work. The Sparce Image created by my MacBook has not been affected. I think this is happening on my iMac G5 because several processes are running simultaneously. I would be interested in any advice or workarounds available to deal with this problem.
    Thanks -
    Dudley Warner

You need to supply more information. If you are getting sparsebundle files, that means the backups are made to a network drive/server. Are you using one drive as the backup destination for both macs, and are both macs accessing the drive using ethernet or wirelessly?

You had already done "Repair" and "Rebuild"?  These usually takes scores of minutes or hours.
Does the Library on your external drive work from the external drive?  Navigate to it in Finder and double-click the name.
If it does, delete the problem Library, empty the System Trash, reboot, Verify your system disk using Disk Utility (and might as well repair permissions while you're at it), reboot, test the external drive Library once more to confirm it works properly, then close it and copy the Library to your system drive.  When the copying is done, double-click the Library (now on the system drive) and see what you get.

  • IPhoto 6 has become corrupt and I have lost 50 amended images

This is my second post re a major/ serious corruption issue I have with iPhoto 6
Within my library I have 50 images that have had multi amendments made and each amendment has been saved as an image revision (e.g. Image6 when 6 changes had been made)
I came to use some imges this week and found that the thumbnails in the relevant iPhoto6 folder show the correct 'amended' image - however on clicking the very original photo appears (e.g. image 1)
This is a serious issue as I sell these images as my business
I have back ups but im still confused how this has happened (I have not used revert to original at any time)
My apple specialist has tried a rebuild but the problem remains
    Its not on all images
Any ideas? Anyone know a UK based iPhoto speciliast available for hire?
    thank you

Note that you are posting in the iPhoto '08 forum and that answers for fixing library issues in iPhoto '08 may be different than doing the same fix in iPhoto 6 - it is safer to post in the correct forum - iPhoto 6 - http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=143
Within my library I have 50 images that have had multi amendments made and each amendment has been saved as an image revision (e.g. Image6 when 6 changes had been made)
Since iPhoto does not have either a save or a save as capability it is important that you describe how you did the amendments and how you created the revised images - e. g. image1 to image6
In iPhoto all edits are applied to the image and the name remains - the only possibly way to accomplish what you say using iPhoto alone is to duplicate and rename the image prior to editing and then it is impossible for iPhoto to link the duplicated & renamed image back to the original image - as far as iPhoto is concerned both (or all 7 in your example) images are separate and have no relationship to each other

  • Cannot generate .chm; no images are compiling.

Thank you in advance for any help.  Here is the situation:  I am using RoboHelp HTML, ver. 8 and have a project that I cannot generate a .chm file for.  Each time I try it runs through the compiler, the output shows .htm files but no image files are included in the compiling process and I end up with a "Fatal Error:  Unexpected error from Microsoft HTML compiler" message.
To generate the file I am going to:  File, Generate, Primary Layout (Microsoft HTML Help).  When I try to open the .chm file I get a message that says "Cannot open the file:  mk:@MSITStore:C|(the directory I saved it to).
There are broken links which haven't been fixed yet but we would like to be able to still generate a .chm file so content can be reviewed.  Is it possible to have a successful .chm file compiled if you have broken links?
Thank you again for any help!

    Hi,
I can't say I have a solution to your problem but I have run into similar situations. Unfortunately, I don't seem to have documented them anywhere...thus I will have to rely on my sketchy memory.
First though, I will respond with two points I am quite certain about:
    - Having broken links in your project should not cause any generation problems other than the obvious missing links in the output CHM.
    - You do not see any images in the compiling process because there is a problem earlier on in the html compilation part.
In my case, I had a project with a multi-level folder hierarchy. With longer filenames totalling a very large number of total characters in the full path, the project would take a very long time to build and, ultimately, I would end up with a "Fatal Error". IF you have a project with even a single instance of a very long full path, this could be the source of the problem. Keep in mind that during the compilation process the full file path is lengthened by the addition of the temporary folder in which the product is built, by default, in the !SSL! folder. My solution was to simply generate to an output folder at the top level e.g. C:\Output. It may, however, be the case that you would have to shorten some of your file/folder names.
In other cases, I could not find a culprit per se, but ended up deleting the .cpd, which is known to sometimes become corrupt. Upon opening the project again, a fresh .cpd was built and the project ran without issue.
Obviously, if you try either of these suggestions, I highly recommend ensuring you have a backup if one does not already exist on a version control system.

  • Aperture 2 Thinks Referenced Images are Offline with Network Home Directory

Aperture thinks my Home directory is offline, but it's not. My Home directory is on a Mac OS X Server on the LAN (i.e., not on the machine in front of me that I run Aperture 2 on). I'm able to import images from my Nikon D200 in RAW/NEF format using Aperture 2, and write them to my Network Home directory (again, on the Mac OS X Server across the LAN) with no problem. Images are added to Aperture Library as REFERENCED images. Actual image files and Aperture Library are within the Pictures folder in my Network Home directory (on the OS X Server across the LAN). Previews and images show up fine initially. However, after importing and quitting, the next launch of Aperture 2 shows those same imported/referenced images as being offline (i.e., alias badge with red strike-thru). No way to get Aperture 2 to recognize that these image files are really ONLINE, not off.
Tried to re-establish the link from Aperture to each image file using File->Manage Referenced Images..., but that corrupted something. Image becomes red slate with "Unsupported Image Format" message, and image preview goes blank/gray on next Aperture 2 launch.
Previous version of Aperture (v1.5.?) did not have this problem.

Thanks for the replies (in triplicate! from grommet). More information:
REFERENCED images that were imported earlier (using Aperture v1.5.x) show up ON-LINE in Aperture 2 (i.e., all is OK with the earlier images; referenced image badge has no red strike-thru).
The images that were imported more recently--all with Aperture 2--continue to show the referenced image badge with the red strike-thru, indicating Aperture thinks they're OFF-LINE (even though they're not). This makes it impossible to edit or use any of the more recent images that were imported with Aperture 2.
Here's the kicker: the more recent images imported with Aperture 2 and indicated as being OFF-LINE are stored in the SAME general file location as the earlier images that were imported with Aperture v1.5.x and are indicated as being ON-LINE!
My Home Directory is on a Mac OS X Server across the LAN.
    Aperture Library is at: ~/Pictures/
Earlier images are at: ~/Pictures/Digital Photos/Roll-000001/1999-05-26-0001.NEF
Recent images are at: ~/Pictures/Digital Photos/Roll-000107/2008-04-17-0001.NEF
Clearly a bug with Aperture 2. I've filed feedback with Apple. Hope to heck this bug is not overlooked in next incremental release. I'm stuck/dead in the water without a fix.

  • IPhoto 05 Files are Self-Corrupting

My oldest iPhoto files have become corrupted. These are files that I imported in 2004. (I later upgraded to iPhoto '05.) I can see the thumbnails but when I try to open a picture I get white space where the picture should be and, of course, the endless circle.
When I slide the thumbnail to the Desktop and try to open it I get:
"Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn't recognize."
When I try to access the photo from another applications I get:
"The image file can't be used because you don't have access privileges, or because it has no content or is corrupted."
Does anyone know how I can access/uncorrupt these files?
I can't "revert to original" on them because I never made changes to them.

I am no expert, and possibly someone who is here will know better. Have you tried looking in the "photos" folder on your hard drive to see if these pics are still there. If so, try double clipping a couple to see if they open in preview. If they do, I would re import them to iPhoto.
Just a thought! Hope it works for you!

  • Error message when uploading book for printing. All images are jpg and rgb. Could they be too large to upload? What size is required and how do I reduce size in Aperture?

I receive an error message when I upload my book for printing. Not sure what the problem is. All my images are jpg and rgb. Could they be too large as it takes about 15minutes to upload to Apple. How do I reduce the size of the image in Aperture?

    Hi Leonie,
    Thanks for your reply.
Error message below. The preview is fine . I can discount the first 2messages as its a new computer so plenty of disk space and upload doesn't seem to be interrupted. I have uploaded to iphoto before. have tried to upload 3times with the same error message. I had to photo my slides with a Kaiser Baas photo maker , which apparently doesn't scan but takes photos in megapixels of the slides. I am wondering now if the format is incompatible though they are jpg files or the colour type wrong. The image files are  around 1-3 mb each and  72 ppi. I think  I will now scan them properly with a scanner to 300dpi anyway to improve quality.
Apple  talks about image files not being too big for uploading but gives no sizing of what too big is?
    Error message
    1. Upload Error. Loss of connection or file corruption during order upload may cause an incomplete order. Resubmitting your order usually resolves this issue.
    2. Low Disk Space. If your computer is running on low disk space, your files may be assembled incorrectly. Create more space by deleting unused files.
    3. Unreadable PDF file or image files. Files are sometimes assembled incorrectly due to CMYK or Grayscale color space. Use the RGB color space for best results.

  • Printer drivers constantly becoming corrupt

We have a large mixture of HP and Ricoh printers in our environment.  They are all linked through a Server 2007 Enterprise edition print server.  For the HP printers, some of them do use the specific print driver and other use a universal print driver, also a mix between PCL 5 and 6.  Most of the problems are occurring on Windows 7 (we don't have many windows XP and they use a different print server)and we are just starting to see some of these problems on Windows 8 (just starting to deploy).  Here are the problems we are having:
    1. Randomly the HP printer will stop working.  Everything appears to be correct on the server and the PC and it works fine from another PC, but it doesn't appear to be communicating to the printer at all.  You click Print in any application and it never actually does anything.  If you just delete and re-add the printer you get problem #2. To actually fix it, you have to remove the printer, go into Print Management and delete all HP drivers (on one of the Windows 8 device just removing the one associated with the printer didn't work but removing them all fixed the issue) and telling it to redownload the print driver from the server.
    2. The HP printer will randomly or on first install start printing "strange characters" and will keep printing until the job is canceled.  Again we found that removing the printer and completely removing the drivers from Print Management and reinstalling the print will fix this.
These keep reoccurring with the same users and occationally new ones and we are starting to get bombarded with calls on our helpdesk.  Let me know if there is something I can check to try to prevent these drivers from becoming corrupt on the PCs.
    Thank you!

    Hello everyone.
I understand you having software conflicts on multiple computers. So I can assist you, I need to find out what printer you have. Please click on this website to find out this information: Model Number. (Only the printers that are experiencing issues please)
On each of the computers; do they all have different connections or the same connection? Please verify if it's wireless, USB or Ethernet connection?
Once I know the connection I can further assist you on your "unable to communicate with your printer" issue.
I have a HP document that will help you resolve your issue on Continuous Pages of Strange or Garbled Characters.
Look forward to hear from you.
