Images are blank when editing or viewing full size

Installed iphoto v8.1.1 on a Mac Mini Server (OS X 10.6.2 Server) and having trouble with iphoto viewing the full images.
In a new iphoto library I imported images (dragged a folder onto the iphoto icon). This brought in what appeared to be the images but it seems it's only the thumbnails. I can see the images within the events and in the list of photos. However when I double click a photo, nothing happens. If I click edit, I have the thumbs across the top but a black screen below. If I click a photo and select Full Screen from the the View menu, I also get the thumbs across the top and a blank/black screen.
Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The !turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Hi all, when I open a New Tab pg all the images are blank - I've tried clicking on the blank images, & dragging a link from the Bookmarks, without success!

I want to achieve at least one of two things: either set New Tabs to open with Google automatically; or at least, to have Google pinned to the New Tab page. (Google is my home page.) When a new page opens, all the images are blank. I've read through the Help pages & tried various things. I've tried dragging Google from the Bookmarks to the New Tab, but this only opens Google. I've tried clicking on the blank images, but nothing happens. I've toggled the blank images off for now, so at least I don't need to look at them. I am doing a university course online, so efficiency is really important to me! Those extra clicks really add up & distract!... Thanks in advance :)

  • Upon opening a thumbnail to view full size image, it often spontaneously zooms to only display bottom left quarter of image.

When double-clicking on the thumbnail image of an iPhoto album, the full size image will often spontaneously zoom to only display the bottom left quarter of the entire photo when it displays in full size. I can easily work around this by clicking on the right arrow to go to the next full size image (which will display properly) and then click on the left arrow to go back to the initial affected image (which will also then display properly). It does not do this when full-sizing all images from their thumbnails - probably less than 10% of the time; but still often enough to be a pian. I cannot find anything in the preferences which would appear to cause or correct it.
It is a recent problem. I have been using iPhoto extensively for many years without any problems. I cannot recall for sure, but it may have started after my update to version 9.4.2.
Using an iMac with plenty of RAM, latest version of iPhoto 11 and Mountain Lion version 10.8.2.

What is the format of the PS photos and are there any alpha channels in them? You might try to re-edit them with PS, making some insignificant change and then saving.  See if the new edit will display properly.  Are you saving as jpgs with the Baseline format?
I may be preaching to the choir here but this may be of interest:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Images are not showing in uitable view .

When running the app on simulator the images are comming well in table view , but no images are showing during in iPad Device and also showing no error .
I debuged the app ane the pointer is going to
    - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath , and the image is set to image view of tableviewcell , but still showing no image in iPad . but working fine in simulator .
    Please help me .
    Thanks

99 times out of 99, when images show on the sim but not on the device, it is due to the fact....that's right...fact...that the sim is your computer and file names when code-consumed ignore case.
iOS on the other hand, and this is important, so take notes....is case-sensitive.
MyImage0666.PNG in the Finder...your project folder....is not the same as myImage0666.png

  • Does not say "The oldest backups are deleted when your disk becomes full."

I am helping someone set up her backup, but I noticed that in the Time Machine window, there is no line that says: "The oldest backups are deleted when your disk becomes full."
She is running Mac OS 10.5.8, on a 2.66 GHz Quad-Core. Her first backup ran fine, but we're concerned that it will not delete older backups automatically to make space.

It works differently in Leopard and Snow Leopard.
In Leopard, the box is titled +Warn when old backups are deleted,+ and Time Machine will fail with a message when it runs out of room and that box is checked.
On Snow Leopard, the title is +Notify after old backups are deleted,+ and that's what happens -- the old backups are deleted, then you get a notice.
See #C4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

  • Themes are blank when trying to make a card in iPhoto

themes are blank when trying to make a card in iPhoto.  Cards appear blank/white, no patterns, no detail.  Tried re-downloading the latest update of iPhoto but no difference.  Any ideas?

    Greetings,
    You need to reinstall iPhoto.
    Questions:
What version of iPhoto are you running (iPhoto > About iPhoto)?
What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
    General steps:
Remove the following files to the trash:
Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > iPhoto (if present)
Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > NetServices (if present)
Macintosh HD > Library > Receipts > iPhoto (anything with iPhoto in the name)
Macintosh HD > Applications > iPhoto
Insert the iLife install disk you have or the Applications disk that came with your computer and reinstall iPhoto: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2604
Once installation is complete go to the Apple > Software update and repeat this until no additional updates are offered.
    Hope that helps.

What do you think about turning File Vault off?
I'd first make a copy or backup of that Home folder first, then I'd never use Filevault again.
Is it possible the disk could be failing but Disk Utility not pick anything up?
Yes, DU just checks Directory structure, and not all that well at that, it is possible that there are bad blocks/sectors on the HD right where that Home Folder is located.
And finally, where is a good place to find interpretations of those cryptic error codes?!
For error -36, might try this...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301580
Well, in pure Apple File System talk... -36 ioErr I/O error (bummers)
Not very helpful, but generally means a Drive quit being Readable or Writable since starting the operation...
    http://fuzzy.wordpress.com/2006/12/10/ioerror-36/
    Terminal for one...
    Find error code...
    /usr/bin/grep "36" /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/CarbonC ore.framework/Headers/MacErrors.h
Or open this file in Text Edit if you have it...

  • Photoshop images are grainy when I view/edit them

I have used Photoshop CS3 for a year now with my 15-megapixel DSLR camera and used to be able to edit photos in PS just fine. But about 2 months ago I upgraded to CS4 and since then, all my images are super grainy when viewing and editing them in PS. I know it has nothing to do with the way I'm saving the images as they show grainy in photoshop before I even do anything to them. And when uploading them online, they're still super grainy even though they weren't before back when I was using CS3
    Anyone have any idea why?

Well, that's the thing. The camera settings are the exact same as they were when I was running CS3 when everything was fine. The only variable that changed was installing CS4. After I did that, even though the camera settings DID NOT change, the images all of a sudden became grainy
I thought it may be a hardware issue so I upgraded the video card to one that greatly exceeds the requirements, but still no joy. I also did the Ctrl+Alt+Shift method to clear settings in case there was a rougue setting somewhere that was causing it. Still no luck

  • Images are blank in RH

Our FM source contains TIF images in anchored frames. RH
creates corresponding JPG files, but the files do not contain an
image (in RH or in PaintShop Pro, they show as large white
    rectangles).
When installing the Tech Suite, I deselected various filters
in the FrameMaker 8 setup, but as far as I know I kept the ones I
needed. The TIF files are displayed correctly in FM 8. I have tried
re-installing FM 8 from the TechSuite setup.exe file, but there was
no option to re-select filters during the re-install.
When RH started FM, the FM Console said that parameters were
missing for various J formats (J2P etc.) I have updated the FM 8
maker.ini file with the corresponding lines from my FM7.2 maker.ini
file, and copied the dll from the 7.2 installation to the FM8
installation (all the lines referenced filters\jp2kfilter.dll). The
FM console no longer reports missing parameters, but the JPG files
    in RH are still blank.
The FM 7.2 maker.ini [Filters] section has many more entries
than the FM 8 section, including:
107="TIFF" IMAG FrameVector TIFF BMPExport "TIFF"
    fmexport.dll ^.tif.
I have not tried modifying this section in the FM 8 maker.ini
file, because the entries are numbered and there is already a 107=
in the FM 8 file (for an SVG filter).
I have tried specifying BMP instead of JPG in RH (Tools >
Options > Framemaker documents), but the BMPs are also blank.

By completely uninstalling and reinstalling TCS, I was able
to alter my filter selections. In the re-install, everything was
selected by default. This time I just left everything selected.
Then in RH I built a completely new project. Unfortunately,
the generated images are still blank when viewed in RH or PaintShop
Pro. I've tried specifying JPG and BMP, but the result is the same.

  • Problems with viewing full-size images on Google...

When I search in images, and click "see full-size image", sometimes the file will be downloaded to my hard drive as a JPG, and then Preview opens up to view it. This never used to happen...the image would always just show up on a new page in the browser.
