Images become dark and saturated Photoshop JPEG

So I have noticed several people having this problem, and the solutions that work for them don't seem to work for me!
I start in Camera Raw 8.0, then move to photoshop to crop and tweak a little bit more, then when I save to JPEG and view in windows photo viewer or other medium, the photo is dark and overly saturated.  I understand that photoshop is a color mangaged space, and that most other programs are not, but I still can't figure out how to make what I see in photoshop translate to the JPEG image.  These will eventually be used on a website and I need everything to look as professional as possible.  The image on the right is really dark, especially on the front lawn and porch.
Here are my color settings:
If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

I suspect that when you're seeing your images not looking right you're viewing them through an incorrectly or incompletely color-managed combination of software and settings.  Note that Internet Explorer, while it does read image color profiles, can ONLY show you proper color if your monitors are set to display the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 color space accurately.  It makes the (incorrect) assumption that all monitors are sRGB.  I believe Windows Photo Viewer only does proper color-management if set to display in a window, not full-screen.
If you're wanting to publish on the web, one generally accepted "least of evils" method is to publish the images with a profile and in the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 color space.  At least that way people with "standard gamut" monitors will see them with similar to accurate colors, and folks with properly color-managed setups will see them accurately.  Firefox and Safari do NOT assume your monitor is sRGB, and both use the image and monitor color-profiles during image display.
In the bottom-center of Camera Raw is what looks like a link for setting workflow options.  If you click it, it will allow you to set Camera Raw to open your images into any of several profiles.  As I recall, the out-of-box default is Adobe RGB.  You *could* consider converting your images to the sRGB color space directly, then whenever you save them they'll be in the color-space that's more likely to be seen properly.  Or you could open them into a wider gamut color space (as they are by default), then Convert them (your last dialog above) to the sRGB color space before saving as JPEG (or use the Save For Web function to do that conversion while creating the JPEG).
There's really no "one set of best parameters" you can just set and forget for color-management.  All the various settings and functions have a good reason for being provided.  The important thing is to start to understand how color-management works, so you can begin to make the settings and workflow choices that make the most sense for you, to accomplish your goals.
Note that some programs aren't color-managed at all, still others are improperly doing it, and others actually get it right.  You really can't be sure everyone is going to see your image in the correct colors, so you have to try for a good compromise.  Yes, color-management in the real world is kind of a mess.

  • Red (close) button becomes dark and windows does not close

Sometimes when I click the red (close window) button, it becomes darker and the window does not close, and the app seems inactive. I have to click the title bar (sometimes many times, the lag time to ) and the windows can close, or it can come back with the red button "normal". Very annoying when I have to close many specific windows as it completely breaks the flow of activities.
Mail seems to be a application where it happens often, but it happens also with safari, omnifocus...
Any idea how to fix this?

The problem is the same with Commnd-V, of course.

  • Photoshop cs6 images look dark and green when put into dropbox.

I have just upgraded to PS CS6 and my images are looking dark and green when I upload them into dropbox to send to clients for review.
A screenshot of my image looks perfect in dropbox but if I save it directly it looks terrible.

sounds like you have Prophoto in the soup (and some color management issues, tagged vs untagged, color-managed vs not color-managed viewers)...

  • Saving as standard JPEG and not Photoshop JPEG?

I found a few topics with this being discussed, but couldn't find a solid answer.  When I choose to save a JPEG in CS4 it saves a Photoshop JPEG instead of just a standard one.  How can I change this?  When I send someone a Photoshop JPEG, as an email attachment for instance, my recpient can never open it.  Am I just missing something really simple?
    Thanks!

Thank you for the vote of confidence, but I find it much easier to explain to clients to just Zip or Stuff the files instead of telling them to wander into the preferences and change a setting in an e-mail application. The longer I work in the field I do, the more I understand how backwards things are. Sometimes doing it the correct way is not always the easiest for most. Yes, it does sound retarded from a technical stand point, but if some one is already frustrated with a process, it's much easier and quicker to advice a quick fix until you can find time to teach your clients to do it the correct way - granted that they want to learn or even listen to you...

  • Ideapad u300s youcam 3 webcam image very dark and exposure button not moving

Just got the u300s after hearing so much about it. Webcam image is very dark and exposure button is not working. auto adjust doesnt help. Even iphone4 front camera has a better exposure control. Can anyone help if it is software or hardware problem. Very disappointing.

Exactly the same issue. The exposure setting won't change. It's not even that it doesn't save, as you look at the preview screen, all of the video proc amp setting change live, but when you get onto exposure, it does nothing. And then it doesn't save.
So this issue has been floating around for about 3 years and nothing has come to light to fix it.

  • Screen images becomes big and out of proportion

    Hello,
I've just upgraded to IO 4.3 and everything went perfectly smooth. Suddenly when I was using safari the whole screen images became big and out of proportion for that screen... It's like resolutions of my display would go crazy... I remember this particular issue happened to me on an earlier iPhone model... I don't remember how I solved then.
    Please, could someone help me?
    Thanks

Double tap with THREE fingers to turn zoom off, then go into Settings>General>Accessibility and turn it off for good.

  • Images look darker outside of photoshop?

I got a new computer last month long ago and installed cs4. Everything works fine, everything looks fine. But then if I save my image to a jpg and view it outside of Photoshop, it looks so dark! I re-open that same file back into Photoshop and it looks fine again.
I checked all my settings from the photoshop in my old computer and everything is the same. I originally thought maybe it's my monitor? but how can it be when my images look fine in photoshop?
I really have no clue. I thought maybe it's only when i save things as jpegs? but nope. same problem with bmp, pdfs, pngs, etc. Someone help me pleasssee!! I'm a freelance graphic/web designer and I can't afford to be having this problem!

This means you need to calibrate your monitor to get a good profile.
Photoshop is colour managed, which means it uses the profile where non-colour managed applications don't.
Have a look at this: http://epaperpress.com/monitorcal/index.html
Adobe Gamma is no longer bundled with Photoshop but You can try QuickGamma: http://www.quickgamma.de/indexen.html
In the long run, it pays to get a hardware calibration device such a the Eye-One Display.

  • How do I stop .tif images being converted and compressed to .jpeg?

I'm not sure what is going on here but when I add a high res .tif picture to iWeb it will display correctly until I publish the website.
Once the website is published I the high res .tif picture suddenly becomes a low res .jpeg picture and looks ruddy awful.
How do I stop iWeb from downscaling the resolution?
    Thanks

Tiff files are notoriously large which is why it may not be supported - have you tried converting to PNG as this is also lossless and was developed for saving highly detailed images where loss of quality was unacceptable. PNG should be supported I have used them for transparent graphics. Also it may be because you put them in an image placement or album rather than straight on the page. Other than that I can't help. I use jpegs for ordinary images and haven't noticed too much loss of quality but it depends on the purpose of your site.
You could always upload the image separately and make a link to the page in iweb, or embed in iframe, just doing some lateral thinking here.
Experiment and see what happens, thats the fun of learning new things.

  • Vector image becomes pixelated and distorts text

This is an issue that is driving me nuts!  I have a vector image created in Illustrator that I am placing in InDesign with an opacity setting.  When I print it to a PDF the text (and anything created in InDesign) that is over the image and the image itself become pixelated.  In InDesign in displays perfectly but something is happening in the conversion to PDF that is screwing up the file.  It displays and prints pixelated.  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks so much!

    Hey Nik-
I think I fixed it but fill me in.  The text is on a seperate layer above the image. I am printing to a PDF, is exporting better?  I just changed the transparency flattener to High resolution when i printed to a PDF it is now displaying and printing properly in Acrobat.
Is that the best way to do this to ensure when I take it to a printer it will come out clean?
    Thanks!

  • Images look dark and faded

Soon I am selling my 7 month old iBook so I can get the new MacBook pro... I erased everything in the disk.. and I reset everything. Next step are the updates. After almost a whole day making updates (atleast waiting fo them to download), now my computer (especially iPhoto) suffers from discolored images. Icons seem to be inmune to it... but for example Messenger For Mac icons and display pictures are also discolored.
*Update: seems the problem comes spontaneous. I realized that it may come from the new Messenger for Mac which brings the option to " Let others see what I'm listening too". This option automatically displays the song i am listening too in itunes in my display name. Each time i put a song on itunes means that the next time I open iPhoto the images wll look faded.

sounds like you have Prophoto in the soup (and some color management issues, tagged vs untagged, color-managed vs not color-managed viewers)...

  • When I try to add motion to a photo, the image just becomes white and won't display properly--what am I doing wrong?

Although the photo settings display properly and seem to indicate what I want will happen (the sliders work and I can set start and end times, etc.) as soon as I click the check box for "ken burns effect" the image becomes white and stays that way unless I undo my actions.  Very frustrating.  If accepted, it stays white and does not show the original image when the movie is played.  What is going on here?

On the right hand side of the Photoshop window I used the Levels under "Add and adjustment". The tag for the photo in the upper left corner says IMG_3639 copy.psd@25% (Levels 1, Layer Mask/8)
