Images dragged out of trash have low resolution

Some Aperture images ended up in system, not Aperture, trash. Found them there and dragged them out only to find they have very low resolution now. Can't find a way to restore their original resolution. The "Masters" seem to have the same low resolution. For reference, the originals were over 24 mbs and the ones out of the trash were reduced to around 500 kbs.

Whoops on the "solved" issue. My thinking was that the answer was that I deleted incorrectly, thus solving the mystery. Recovering the info via backup was then something else...if that makes sense. I hope nobody is turned off by the "Solved" notation. I know I look at those especially because they are solved whereas many other discussions just sort of fade away without a definite conclusion.
To answer your questions:
1. I used the delete commands, like "delete version", "delete masters and all versions".
2. OS 10.6.8
3. The library is on the computer's HD, but I have Time Machine and another external drive for the Vault feature.
4. I have 5100 images, cannot locate where the actual size is and in any case would not know the "before" size to compare it with to see if the Masters went away or just hid.
5. I have all the files I dragged out, haven't emptied the trash or deleted anything since I had this problem.
6. The folders have various names I gave them or which were generated by the program, I guess, and none of them are labelled "masters". I have searched thru all folders and projects, and thru the photos and have not found the masters in question. I never generated a seperate "Masters" folder. Sounds like a good idea though.
7. I originally migrated over from iPhoto, a messy process for me, but that was long ago. Since then I have only imported via cameras and never had a problem with that. The images in question, the 24mb ones, are from the newly supported raw files from a Sony Nex-7 and no problems with those images in general. Just a handful of them got lost. Most are just fine, so there is no pattern there.
At some point, perhaps when Ap4 comes out, I would like to find a way to start completely over!
I'll do the backup restoration thing when you advise me to go ahead, and again would appreciate any advice on the best way to do that. Never did it before. Thanks again, Carl

  • Some dock icons have low resolution?

Some of the icons on the dock bar have low resolution while others are ok.  In the attached pic, the Chrome, Iphoto and Excell icons have low .  When I reset the iMac, then there are different icons with low res.   It is not affecting functionality but I wonder if something is wrong or corrupt.
    thanks,

Boot in safe mode. This will cause certain caches maintained by the system to be rebuilt.
Safe mode is much slower to boot than normal.
When the login screen appears, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.

  • Images have low resolution

I imported in Keynote 8 some .png image (black & white, 600). The original resolution is OK, but when imported in Keynote, the quality is low. I never had this problem before. Any idea?

Found: you must deselect In preferences / General: "Reduce placed images to fit on slides".

  • Is there a way to take a high resolution image, and trace it in a lower resolution?

Layers appear to need to be all in the same resolution, so I'm thinking layers are out. Is there any other ways to do this?

    Hi Trevor, thanks for responding!
Basically, my goal is to use a higher resolution image as the basis for pixel art, but underlaying the higher resolution source picture under a much lower resolution layer, and "trace" out the basis for the pixel art on top of it. I suppose it would be a bit like onion skinning, but I'd need the two (layers? canvasses?) to be of radically different resolutions to accomplish what I'm trying to achieve. It's not a "size" issue, as I'd want the top to be the same physical size as the bottom, just have the top be, let's say 64 pixels by 64 pixels, and the bottom image to be 800 pixels by 800 pixels.
If that doesn't make sense, let me know, and I'll have another go at it!
    Thanks very much!

  • NEF's have low resolution

    hi folks,
I'm dragging some NEF files into a photoshop cs5 document.  They have high resolution (around 2000 pixels on a side or so).  I'm making a collage, so I drag the NEF's into the photoshop document, resize and rotate, and then hit "enter" to place them.  They are "smart objects", according to the layers panel.  The resolution of these images, however, is very low in the photoshop document.  Very strange.  Any ideas about how to keep the high resolution in the smart objects?
    thanks!

    Welcome to the forum.
From what I can tell, you have a different problem, that the OP in this thread.
I'd start a New>Discussion (from the toolbar in the forum's main page), and in it outline the details of your Image, plus the specs. of your system. Low Memory can come from several sources.

It will not happen in direct pdf from illustrator
    Please anyone help on this.

Hard to follow what you are experiencing, can you post  screenshots?
You may want to experimnent with your .eps settings, especially preview & inlcude linked files since you have duplicate images.

  • InDesign CS5 exports PDFs where EPS elements have low resolution

I am rather new to InDesign CS5. I am currently working on a magazine, where I use graphics in TIFF and EPS. The exported PDF shows graphics in correct quality (300 dpi - TIFF) and graphics with poor resolution -> EPS. How is that even possible? The problem disappears when I use .AI, but it should work with EPS to, shouldn't it?
I figured that it might have something to do with the Transparency Flattener Presets, am I right? My presets are set to "low resolution" and it is not possible to set them to "hight resolution", as InDesign refuses to remember those settings.
    Please help!

Well, I was just trying to figure out why it's happening and thought that it might have something to do with the transparency flattening.
My colleagues, who also work with InDesign (althought with older versions), always use EPS and they never have problems. But your advice is not to use EPS format, am I right?

That can happen if you zoom Yahoo mail websites.<br />
Yahoo uses a script to check the screen dimensions and zooming a page affects the window and screen width and height settings.
Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems.

  • Batch of JPGs suddendly have lower resolution only in ID

I downloaded a number of stock photos a while back. They had all originally imported perfectly into ID. Now they all have much lower and varied resolutions only when in ID. When I open them in other applications, they are fine. I have tested photos outside of this batch of stock photos, and they imported into ID correctly.
There is one particular photo which has the worst resolution- only a few pixels, that produces and error message when opened in Ps. It reads: "This document may be damaged (the file may be truncated or incomplete). Continue?" and when I hit OK, the image loads and appears normal. It's not apparent to me what's wrong.
I don't know of anything that could have corrupted this particular batch of photos. Why only problems in ID (with the exception of the Ps error on the one)?
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for your reply, Tony.
When I import these particular photos, they are not enlarged. I would expect to lose resolution if that were the case, but they are at their original size.
My display performance is set to 'high quality display'.
BUT, you are onto something in terms of printing and PDF (without downsampling) output. They seem to have the original quality with either process.
The exception to normal printing/PDF is the worst photo, as described above. It will not allow me to export to PDF. The error reads: "Error encountered while reading JPEG image. Image may be damaged or incompatible. Resave the image with different settings and try again."
While I'm not exactly sure what 'different settings' are called for, I did try resaving the image in different formats. But I had the same results. Like I said, it looks completely normal in other programs, as well as all of the other photos in question.
Even with the exception of the worst image, I still don't understand why they ALL have poor, varying resolutions. And while the file info for each photo reports that they have similar attributes, they each vary drastically in terms of resolution only in Id.

  • Imported image comes small and with a low resolution when trying to fill text

I am trying to fill my text with a texture or image.
    Heres my process:
I type my text, select it and click on the "draw inside" button.
I then go to place and select my image.
The image comes tiny with dimensions of x- 430mm and y-340mm.
Obviously when i stretch it out to cover the text, the image becomes blurry.
    Whats happening here?
    Thanks

    herms,
What happens if you start with (File>Place) the image/texture, then have the live/outlined Type on top, select both and Object>Clipping Mask>Make (if you have outlined Type, select all of it and Object>Compound Path>Make first)?

  • Low resolution warning with 8Mpixel image?

I've finished a new large size hardcover book, and some of the full page size (landscape) images with have 8 megapixel raw files as sources have low resolution warnings - some, but not all of them. Some of the photos have been edited in photoshop, and none of these have warnings. With the unedited pics, some have warnings, some don't - there doesn't seem to be any specific reason why some of the files have warnings. I haven't tried to actually buy the book, so I don't know what will happen with ordering. But it seems 8 megapixels should be fine for a large book landscape page.

    Limnidytis:
What size book and theme are you using? I'm not familiar with the RAW files but remember reading about there's a couple of files that get uploaded, the raw file and a jpg for viewing - something like that. Check and make sure it's the RAW file that's in the book and not the jpg file for viewing. Click on one of the files in the book and type Command-I to bring up the Info window for it. There you'll see the image size size in pixels and file size in KB or MB. As I said I'm not familiar with those files so may be way off on this.
As far as resolution is concerned it’s the overall pixel dimensions of the file that are important. For example a 3512 x 2338 pixel file will have a resolution of about 585 dpi for a 4 x 6 print. If you expand that to an 8 x 12 print (so we don’t have to crop) the resolution will drop to about 292.
A 3512 x 2338 file will give approximately a resolution of 275 if printed at an 8.5 x 11 size or approximately a full page photo in a large book. 275 is sufficient for that size print.
iPhoto will often report the dpi at 72 but the size it’s looking at may be somewhere around 48 inches for the larger side. This can be seen if you have an editor like Photoshop Elements where you can go in and change the dpi and pixels on a side and see how the size in inches changes.

  • Netflix movie resolution phases in and out of high and low.

Yes, you download speed is changing. If the download speed is not great enough for HD it reverts to SD.

  • Images in slide show appear in low res

Why are images in the slideshow appearing in low resolution? Inside Muse I can click on an image in the lightbox section of the slide show and choose "Edit Original" which brings up the image in Photoshop. The image is 1097 x 1462 pixels. However, after publishing the site and navigating to the slide show, the image appears the right size on screen but looks very low resolution and is only 270 x 360 pixels when drag-copied to the desktop. I thought Muse was supposed to take care of all the resizing of images/assets as it published the site to the web (in my case, Business Catalyst). I tried doing a "Upload: All Files" when publishing, but no luck.

I guess, you have turned HiDPI output on. Just look here:
Photo aspect ratio incorrect when "placing" into Muse
And: If you place a picture in a 488 x 650 frame, and the picture is 1097 x 1462 pixels large, you force Muse to sample it down. If you place an image exactly with its size, Muse doesn’t touch it at all.

  • Low resolution AirPlay when using MacBook Pro but high when using iPad

I have a very strange issue. When I use Airplay from my iPad the image on the television is very clear and sharp, looking like a great HD picture. Wen I stream from my MacBook Pro, or mirror the screen, to the Apple TV the image degrades to a choppy, low-resolution, muddy version that looks terrible! It's strange because I have not had this issue before.
Anyone have any ideas on what is going on with this? Again, the image from the iPad is fine, the image from the MacBook Pro is low-resolution. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

  • Import Previews Low Resolution?

As an Event Photographer I need to be able to quickly preview images from my Cards, Import only the "GOOD" images and transmit these for immediate distribution.
Problem is the PREVIEW of the images PRIOR to import are very low resolution and don't allow me to make an informed decision as to the quality of the image. Can this be adjusted?
Also, any tips on speeding up importation would be appreciated.
I've disabled FACES and PLACES and use a high speed FW800 card reader.

I can't see how you could make a select in the camera but you can't make it with the camera-generated preview? Especially when the in-camera JPEG is what's displayed on the back of the LCD when you review images (All RAW files contain JPEG previews for this purpose, and the histogram is typically displayed using the info from this embedded JPEG preview).
The fastest thing you can do for selections is to click Aperture's checkbox to use the embedded JPEG if possible. Then turn on quick preview mode and get to work editing. Note, Aperture 3 lets you edit while you're importing. It doesn't matter if the images are still on the card or have been copied to their final location. If the JPEG on the camera is good enough for quick reviewing, it should be good enough on screen... even if it is at a small resolution.
