Images for shared workspaces

Is there a way to upload an image for a shared workspace?

One last notation -
There are several discussion threads about how to set up a Guest Account with your own preferences, such as here:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6578902
I think it is far easier to set up a Standard User account, and then customize it the way you want by logging into the account and changing any Desktop Wallpaper and Icon settings, THEN logging out, and then logging into your Administrator account.
Then, when you go to System Preferences and choose "Parental Controls" (NOT the one found under "Accounts"), you can choose special options such as "Use Simple Finder" and turn off "can administer printers", "can burn CDs and DVDs", and "can change password". You can even limit what applications they can use.
If you want to know more about Simple Finder go to your Help menu in the Finder and type "Simple Finder" Choose the Apple help article entitled "Setting up a simple interface for an account".
After I set up my Standard account I tried to apply an icon to the Home Folder while I was logged in as an Administrator. Interestingly, I was not able to do so. But when I logged into the Standard Account I just made, I was able to apply the icon to the Standard User's Home Folder.
So now all my icons and User Accounts are set up perfectly. Now I will make a disc image back up of the hard drive, and then on to updating to OS X 10.5.7.

  • Use Sparse Bundle Disk Image for sharing library among users?

Apple's knowledge base article HT1198 (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198) on sharing iphoto libraries among multiple users on the same Macintosh describes using a sparse disk image in the /users/Shared/ directory. For a Mac that uses a Time Capsule for Time Machine backups won't this require the entire iPhoto library to be backed up anytime a picture is added or modified?
Would using a sparse bundle disk image instead work better?
Also, HT1198 doesn't say anything about "Partitions" parameter setting in Disk Utility when creating a blank sparse image or sparse bundle disk image. Does it matter what setting is selected if the image is being kept on the Mac internal disk drive?
Is there any difference between iPhoto '08 or iPhoto '09 when attempting sharing the iPhoto library among users?

I believe it may require the entire bundle to be backed up. You'd best ask that question in the Time Machine forum. They would know more about the ins and outs of TM there.
If you can afford an external FW hard drive that would be the best option by far. No worry about filling up the sparse bundle, and you could use the external HD as a work platform to help keep a minimum of 20 GB of free space on your boot drive for optimal performance of system and applications.

I want to copy images to a memory stick for sharing with my family. This was possible in iPhoto via copy/paste but does NOT seem to be possible with photos...

You can drag and drop (this will result in a compressed JPG) or hold the alt key and drag and drop (this will copy the original). You can also select the pictures and choose Export from the File menu.

  • IE10 for Essbase Workspace / Shared Services

    Hi,
I know IE10 is not officially supported with Essbase 11.1.2.3, but has anyone got it to work, my client has IE10 and does not want to use Firefox for Shared Services, but I am struggling to get anything other than a blank screen on the Shared Services page?
I have tried adding to trusted sites and allowing site from different zones in internet options but it just freezes on the index.jsp page.
    Is this possible if unsupported?
    thanks,
    Robert.

  • Seeking Options for Workspaces for Shared Reviews

Can anyone tell me if an owncloud site (http://owncloud.org/) can be used as a web server folder for shared reviews?

Search the forum for RAID and see what you get. We state this a lot.
BEST? Or AFFORDABLE? Or a mixture of both? What format of HD will you be working with? Not all formats require a raid, like HDV. That can be editing off of firewire drives as it has the same data rate as DV.
Look at CalDigit, G-Technology, Sonnet. I highly recommend eSATA Raids.

    Hello,
The images in Shared Components -> Images are ones you have uploaded specifically for your application (or workspace). They are unrelated (strictly speaking) to the images in the /i/ folder (which are either stored on the filesystem if you use the OHS or stored in the DB if you use the EPG etc).
    Hope this helps,
    John.

  • Best practices for sharing iPhoto libraries across multiple Macs

I have a pair of iMacs running 10.6.x. and iPhoto 11 connected via Ethernet to an Airport Extreme. I am looking for a way to share my iPhoto library between the two Macs.
I found an Apple Support note on the topic (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198) which states that a disk image is a supported location for a shared iPhoto library (with limitations acceptable to me) and it strikes me that this would be a way of hosting a shared iPhoto library onto a NAS device.
Am I missing a simpler solution or, more importantly, am I missing any blindingly obvious caveats? I'd love to hear from anybody who has tried this (successfully or otherwise) or anybody who has a better idea. I haven't bought a NAS device yet, so I'm open to alternative suggestions.
    Specific requirements:
Members of my family use either one of a pair of iMacs.
The only user who edits the iPhoto library is me and I only need read/write access from one machine.
iPhoto library access limited to one user at a time is acceptable and practical in my case.

    Easiest:
If the other users only get to see the Library then just use iPhoto Sharing.
Enable sharing in the iPhoto Preferences on the Host machine, then go to the other macgine and in the same location enable 'Look for Shared Libraries'
Other forms of sharing will give the users read/write access to the Library.
A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.

  • When we go for shared Server environment?

When we go for shared Server environment from Dedicated server mode?
When we have to choose thi shared Server mode?
    Which is the optimized way?

    > When we go for shared Server environment from Dedicated server mode?
You do not. It is not one or the other - it is using both correctly. You want shared server sessions to service applications (any, from web/app servers to flat clients) that are OLTP in nature. They fire off short-and-sweet SQLs that takes a second or three to execute.
A shared server pool of a few processes can service a very large number of clients.
You want to use dedicated servers to service OLAP type clients. They fire off complex SQLs that can tie up the server processes for several minutes at a time.
And that in a nutshell is how to apply the two. It is not Shared Servers versus Dedicated Server. It is about using The Right Tool For The Job. Nothing more and nothing less.
As for Windows, I will not really bother quickly with shared server connections. On Windows both shared and dedicated servers runs as threads in the main Oracle executable process image.
There is thus very little resource saving by reducing the number of threads as the footprint of a thread is tiny in comparison to a brand new process. The amount of resources saved by a reducing the number of dedicated server threads is not significant. If anything, Oracle on Windows has shown to scale better than Oracle on Linux in this regard. (refer to [url http://www.perftuning.com/pdf/Comparison_Oracle_Windows_Linux.pdf]A Comparison of Oracle Database 10gR2 Real Application Cluster Performance on Microsoft Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition x64 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux x86_64 from the Performance Tuning Corporation).
And this is exactly the opposite of how Oracle behaves on Unix. Each server process is a physical kernel process. This means that a servicing a 1000 concurrent sessions with a 1000 dedicated server processes, each consuming memory and resources, are expensive. Conversely, supporting a 1000 concurrent sessions with a 100 shared server processes is (almost) 90% cheaper.
This makes Shared Server a desirable option to use to scale OLTP sessions on Unix-based systems (or any platform where Oracle does not use multi-threading but multi-processing).
PS. As the Linux kernel support Posix threads (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_POSIX_Thread_Library), it begs the question as to when Oracle is going to support multi-threading on Linux instead of multi-processing.. or at least give us the option to choose.

    Good day,
Static forms created with Acrobat or LiveCycle Designer can be shared via an Acrobat.com shared workspace.  These files can be shared like any other file.

  • Sending File for Shared Review

I want to send a number of captivate files for shared review. Do I need to create a seperate email for each file and log in each time. Or is there a way to bundle a few of the captivate files together and jsut send them in one email.
Or can I give someone access to a folder on my workspace in the Adobe area.
    Thanks
    Jo

Is the bundled Reviewer not waht you want? The reviewers do not need to have Captivate installed, just have to download the reviewer which is free.
You can post files on workspaces.acrobat.com and share the workspace or files with other people. Or you can use the service SendNow to send files as well.

  • Get back Shared Workspace Pages and Sample content folder

    Hi,
We deleted Shared Workspace pages and Sample content folder in Workspace, due to client's insistence. Now they want it back, as they liked the earlier view better.
Is there a way to get these folders back? Any help will be appreciated.

Did you delete them delete them or simply remove them from the user preferences
To figure that out go to Explore and then select View from your drop down and select "Show hidden"
You should see a folder called "Shared Workspace Pages". If you see it and Inside you have Homepage then you haven't truely nuked it and add it back through preferences.
If you totally nuked it. Then someone else might have the trick for adding it back but if you have a server I would nose around in (for 11.1.1.3 and different depending on which version you are using) to see if you can see the files in question.

  • Need ideas on alt image for swf

    Hi guys,
I made a big mistake.  I've built a website which uses a large, single button bar swf with multiple buttons for navigation.  Now I'm getting reports from some users that the "site doesn't work" or they can't "use it right" - which means that I've got users out there who don't understand flash player, don't have it, or use IE9.  Maybe one or two who use an ipad but I'm doubting that's my biggest problem.
It's for a small town city council election, so there's not a whole lot riding on it from that point of view, but I made it and I want it to be impressive.  Moreover, I don't want to look like the doofus I feel like.
There are seven buttons, in one swf in one div.
So, I want to build something different, or replace something... I don't know, I'm an illustrator picking up web design.
My options as I see them:
    A) Leave it as it is, and place in a series of jpegs (seven of them) which I figure will just stack up on top of each other.  So, put seven jpegs in as alts for one swf.  Make them linkable.
Question one: is this possible?  Question two: can a jpeg be an alt, or a link for that matter?  Question three: if this is feasible, do I have my positioning correct with this highlight below?
    <div class="button_bar">
      <script type="text/javascript">
    AC_FL_RunContent( 'codebase','http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,28,0','wid th','161','height','266','src','images/button_panel3','quality','high','pluginspage','http ://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash','movie',' images/button_panel3' ); //end AC code
    </script><noscript><object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,28,0" width="161" height="266">
        <param name="movie" value="images/button_panel3.swf" />
        <param name="quality" value="high" />
        <embed src="images/button_panel3.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="161" height="266" alt="somethingsomething"></embed>
      </object>
    </noscript></div>
    B) Go back to scratch and make seven new buttons.  Subdiv seven times.  Use jpegs as each alt, as a link.
Questions: same as above, basically.  I have all twenty one images for the buttons already made, and I only have eight pages to fix if I go this route.
    C) Leave it as it is, and place in a series of text links.
    D) Keep trying to find a flash detector which actually works for me and ignore the rest of it.  I haven't found one that works so I've just put a small "if you can't use the site you need flash player" line under my main container on the front page with a link to adobe.  It completely ignores the IE9 and Ipad crowd, but I don't know how to fix that right now.
    E)  Put in a series of small text nav links under the main image where I had planned to link to my own site with credits.  But hey, I'm going on two months of completely ignoring my own site to do this one, so why not?
That's all I can think of.  My main priority is that I want it to look outstanding (even on an ipad), but I think functionality is really key here, and more important.  I've been chasing tutorials and discussions for four days now and I'm stuck in a rut.  I'm afraid to commit to doing the button work because I don't understand my options well, and I haven't found the clarity I need to figure it out.

Some of the walkthroughs are telling me the javascript file is in the same folder, some of them are saying to put it in my scripts folder... one even says it needs to be in the folder with the images...
So I place the basically unaltered javascript file into (I assume is correct location) scripts folder,  I use the small script prompt line in the head, I remove my swf info which Dreamweaver built me, and put in the info that swfobject generator gave me:

  • Accessing images from shared components

I am having problem finding out images from shared components. After loading my images from my desktop to shared components folder, when i try to create an image item, and click the browse button, it pulls out my hard drive for selection. i don't know how to get the images already in shared components. i read in the help file that if i know the name of the image, then i can write it down and portal will pull it out. but what if i don't remember. do i have to go to shared components to find what it is and then come back and write it in the textbox?how to get to shared components clicking browse and selecting the image we want which is already stored in portal?
    thanks
    valli

There's no way to browse and select the images in shared components. You need to know the URL to the image if you want to reference it in an item.

  • Copy Images from different workspace

    Hi,
I have an application that uses 4 images. These images are in shared components -> images of that application. This application is in the workspace, say 'X'
    When I go to these Images I see - #APP_IMAGES# xyz.gif
The only options I find there are - Display install file script and Display deinstall file script.
Now I want to use these images in my application. I am developing this application in a different workspace, say 'Y'.
How do I get these Images into my workspace? And put it in the shared components of my application.
    Please Suggest.
    Thanks.

    Hi ,
    Try this
Open Home>Application Builder>Application X>Export / Import>Export->see the tabs Workspace Users      Application      CSS      Images      Files      Themes      User Interface Defaults now click the image then proceed->
choose from Export Images in Application selectlist X->File Format=dos->Click EXPORT IMAGEs button.
    X.sql file will get download
go to your workspace and choose Y application
Select the file you wish to import to the export repository. Once imported, you can install your file.
    Open Home>Application Builder>Application Y>Export / Import>Import-> browse the sql file and
    File Type=image import
click Next button-> image will import in your Y applicaiton
Conform by checking this under shared components-> images
