Images from Illustrator to DW don't show

I resisted moving away from CS2 and GoLive for a long time, but finally threw in the towel and recently bought CS4 web premium.  GoLive was like your favorite pair of old jeans you wore on a Saturday morning [sigh]..  Anyway.
Photoshop was always my preferred application for creating images for use on my web sites I suppose since I was too lazy to learn Illustrator.  Thought I should actually use Illustrator and I watched hours of lynda.com training (and DW training.)  I'm still taking baby steps with both, but I am tenacious and will learn both.
I worked up a a banner image for a web site overhaul I'm doing in Illustrator and saved it 'For web' as a gif, then as a jpeg.  Inserted the image into DW (as a gif, then as a jpeg) and then to my astonshment I could not view the page's image in Live View or in a browser.  I tried an old image I had laying around and it worked so there is something I'm not doing right I suppose in Illustrator.  I can preview the image in Illustrator in the save for web dialog box and it displays okay on a browser page.
I've tried to rasterize it, import it into Photoshop and then save for web, and nothing works for me to have it display in a DW page.  Frankly I'm not sure if this is an Illustrator issue, a DW issue, a problem between the seat and the keyboard, or what.  I'm not even sure if the DW community will claim this as a DW problem but I thought I would start here first.
Many thanks from a GoLive refugee

Thanks guys for jumping in to help ...
Yup - good-to-go on defining a site, images directory and all that stuff.  I am creating an RGB image at 72 ppi in Illustrator.  Forgot about Export in Illustrator, tried exporting as a PSD, opening up in Photoshop and then saving as a gif, then inserting into the DW page.  Still couldn't see the image
Then I created a simple graphic in Photoshop, saved as a gif in the images directory of my site, inserted it in the page I have been working with and it worked as expected.  This is weirding me out.
Apparently there is no issue with DW, but something I don't understand about Illustrator.  I'll mess around some more and maybe post on the Illustrator forum.  Don't know if my platform is relevant or not but I'm running W7 Professional 64 bit.
When I get this issue worked out, I'm sure I'll be back with some DW questions as I get more into my site creation.
Regards - John
PS - I have Fireworks, so maybe I'll see what that can do for me for graphics...

  • Best file for importing images from Illustrator and Photoshop for small file sizes

    Hello Adode consults!
I'm in the process of preparing an inDesign file for a school project -- I've already had a few harrowing experiences sending large files to the printer that are too large to process (and a very grumpy computer, etc). The end result will be a poster around 36 inches by 4 or 5 feet.
I'm wondering if there are any best practices for making sure that the files imported into InDesign are a manageable size to begin with. Should I, for instance, be saving each file as a jpeg before placing in Indesign?
    Thanks!
    -Katherine

No, you should not save every file as JPG before placing it in INDesign. JPG is only usefull for raster images (like photos) without any transparency in high quality.
    When you place images use:
For raster images from Photoshop psd (rgb with color profile)
For raster images from Photoshop with form layers, texts or any vector element use PDF (or PDP) with layers.
For vector graphics from Illustrator use AI files or PDF.
For layouts from other InDesign projects use either the INDD itsself or export a PDF/X4.
But to the printer deliver a PDF according to their standards. E.g. when they need CMYK files export as PDF/X1a with the required output color space and the resolution they want. Produce the pdf via Export (Print).
Don't deliver open INDD. File size should for printing projects not be an issue.

  • How do I delete photo albums from my IPhone that don't show up in Itunes?

I have an IMac recently upgraded to OSX 10.9.  My Iphone is a 4S running 7.0.4.  I know how to manage songs and photos using ITunes, but somehow my entire photo library has been synched to my IPhone.  The odd thing is the photos don't show up when I run the Preview Application (one way to remove photos from the IPhone).  Only the Camera Roll photos show up there.  And in ITunes I do not have any albums checked to synch.  I have no idea how the albums got onto my phone, and no idea how to remove them.
In ITunes, I make sure no photo albums are selected, and I choose "synch," but they just won't remove from the Iphone.   When I look under "Settings" "General" on my Iphone sometimes it shows over 8,000 photos and sometimes 2,000 photos.  But the albums never are removed.  Another strange thing is that in ITunes "Photos" at the bottom where you see the colored visuals of what applications are using space "Other" consumes more than half my space.
I'm about ready to do a factory reset.  Can anyone help????

.  Another strange thing is that in ITunes "Photos" at the bottom where you see the colored visuals of what applications are using space "Other" consumes more than half my space.
that can sometimes happen, when trying to update the software failed. Then partially downloaded updates will take up a lot of space. Photos synced to iDevices can only be removed by syncing again.
If syncing again with just one small album with a single photo selected will not remove the synced albums, back up the iPhone to iTunes and restore the device to factory settings:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
Restoring should get rid of the "other" and the synced albums.

  • When I export an image from Illustrator, my placed images are distorted

    Hi,
I've rendered an image in Maya, saved it as a .psd, and placed it into Illustrator. In Illustrator, I get very jagged curves and lines on my artboard and when I export to a bitmap (see attached...the first image is before Illustrator, the second is after export from Illustrator). I have saved my Photoshop file to the EXACT size it needs to be, so there's no scaling.
    Please help!
    Thank you!

  • Image from Illustrator to Muse

I created an image in Illustrator and exported it to Muse as a .png, but the problem is that when I reduce the size loses a lot of resolution. It is a drawing created entirely in Illustrator. I'm surprised because I've done this many times and it never happened. Can anyone explain me what happens?

You can place PNG images in Muse. But PNG images, like other pixel-based image formats such as JPEG & GIF, have fixed resolutions. They only look good when their pixels are mapping one to one with the pixel grid of a computer monitor or any other device viewing the layout. If you zoom into the layout, either in Muse or in the web browser the pixels in the PNG image no longer match up with the pixels in the computer screen. That's why you get the jaggy or blurry looking imagery.
If you want to use graphics that can be zoomed, use vector-based graphics like SVG. Vector-based art saved in SVG can be scaled to any size on a web page layout and zoomed at any level and still appear razor sharp.

  • Jagged screen images from Illustrator CS imports

I haven't experienced screen "jags" of Illustrator (.ai) images since moving to CS.
Now, I've got a hot presentation with tons of outlined and stroked type .ai files and they all look really jagged like the old days. I've done some research into this, but can't find a solution. I'm on an iMac G4, OS 10.4.3 with Adobe CS.
The .pdf prints perfectly, but it's annoying to look on screen. Client don't understand our problems, like poor jagged screen images. This kind of stuff can really taint their reaction to the work.
I've saved outlined, stroked .ai text before, but the screen image always looked good since CS.
What gives now and is there a work around?
    Thanks. Jim (www.metamarkinc.com)

btw: the jagged .pdf was created from an InDesign CS master file, with the imported Illustrator CS images.

  • Linked images in my Word document don't show up in RoboHelp

I'm using RoboHelp 8 and Microsoft Word 2003 on Windows XP. I create a new WebHelp project. I added all the .png image files from my Microsoft Word directory to Baggage Files. I then used the Link>>Word Document function to add my Word document to the RoboHelp project. Set my preferences for style pagination, did a Force Update All. However, most of the images I inserted as links into my Word document don't come through into RoboHelp. Apparently I'm missing a setting somewhere but I can't figure out what it is. In addition, one of the images that did come through is horribly degraded.

Still no joy. All of the images in my Word document are linked .png files.
Here's the step-by-step of what I just did:
    Open Word document
    Tools>>Options>>General>>Web Options.
    Change setting. Click OK
    Click OK
Change text on page one of document to make sure document is "dirty".
    File>>Save As.
    Increment number in file name.
    File>>Exit.
    Launch RoboHelp
    Start new project
Add all .png files to baggage.
    File>>Link>>Word Document
    Select appropriate Word file.
    File>>Project Settings>>Import tab
Edit Word conversion settings to set pagination for heading styles and set Convert Word list to RoboHelp list
    Click OK
    Click Apply
    Click OK
Right-click Word document in HTML Files (Topics) and choose Update>>Force Update All
    no joy

  • How can I export an image from Illustrator same canvas size and custom resolution?

Hey all.  i am using Adobe Illustrator CS5 for creating images for iPhone app icons the size of image 374 px 374 px and 264 ppi. i created an image same size and ppi .the problem after export the image file size changing to  1371px x 1371px and 264 ppi pixel dimension. How can I export same canvas size and same resolution file from illustrator

    10111980,
If you just forget about PPI and use Save for Web, you will get the 374 x 374 pixel size.
The 1371 x 1371 pixels is because you somehow increase the resolution by 264/72.
You should never mix pixel by pixel sizes and PPI.
The 374 x 374 pixels is the actual image size. At 264 PPI that will be about 1.417 inches. At 72 PPI that will be about 5.194 inches.

  • When I add contacts from text messages they don't show up in my Contacts list.

Right, I hope I didn't miss another thread. Nothing appears in my contacts list when I try to save numbers from text messages. The only way to save a contact is to type it manually. But the "save to contacts" option is there, so where is it actually saving all those numbers ?

    Hey Xyz321Abc,
Thanks for the question. Let’s check to make sure all of your groups are being displayed. It is possible that your new contacts are defaulting to a group that is hidden. With the Contacts application open, do the following to make sure that all groups are checked:
Show or hide a group. Tap Groups, then select the groups you want to see. This button appears only if you have more than one source of contacts.

  • Dragging images from browser to desktop - don't appear where dropped

I am not sure it it's a browers' or system weirdness:
in my view options I have set my desktop to not align icons to grid.
when I drag an URL from browser to desktop it appears exactly where I've dropped it.
when trying to do the same with images (dragging from browser onto desktop) they jump/align with other icon/files I already have on my desktop.
this happens only since I've installed 10.6
I've tested with different browsers and realized this only happens with firefox and camino...(in safari it works as expected).
    bye,

  • 'Send to iDVD" from iPhoto problems - photos don't show up properly

    Hi
When I send photos/albums from iPhoto to iDVD using the function: Share->Send to iDVD' iDVD opens up, but the screen is blank in iDVD, the project info shows the photos are there, but there is nothing playing - just the blank screen.
When I do the same action on our Tiger iMac it works as advertised, not so on our Leopard iMac.
All software is up to date - iDVD 08, iPhoto 7.1.4
    Any thoughts anyone? Thanks

Thank you. It doesn't actually "fail" in that it crashes or comes up with any error messages etc. It just doesn't show anything in the screen. I have pasted the Console entries that came up when I sent album to iDVD - can't see much evidence in there but you might?

  • Exported images from Illustrator look pixelated in Captivate

Every image I've created in Illustrator and exported to .gif, .jpg or .png all seem pixelated and fuzzy in Captivate 8. Any tips or advice on how to remedy this?
    Mark

The zoom setting doesn't seem to fix anything since it is when I preview or publish it...correct me if I'm wrong, fairly new to Captivate.
As far as the pixel grid, it is aligned, but that doesn't seem to fix anything either.
I talked to Adobe help and they were under the impression there is no way to improve the image quality which seems bizarre to me.

  • Problem with jpeg images imported from Illustrator

Hi, i am kind of new with Premire and video, though have experience in web design and coding, but i have noticed a weird problem with premiere pro cs 5.5  when i  import jpeg pictures and put them as intro before the video that where done in adobe illustrator and have vectors and stuff, the quality of the image gets pretty bad and blurry...i searched through the internet looking for clues on what to do like changing to png, tiff formats but nothing has helped so far....any ideas on what to do. So when i import jpeg, png images from illustrator (that have vectors or illustrations) do i have to do something special with it, or import it in some special format??? i would appreciate the help.
This is how the image looks on youtube:
Anyway here is the video with its poor image quality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_oMNzXAZ8Y&feature=youtu.be
This is how it looks originally before putiing it, in premiere pro cs 5.5
Anyway here is the video with its poor image quality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_oMNzXAZ8Y&feature=youtu.be
THANX guys would appreciate the help!!!

    hiya.
video likes 72 dpi ( though some will say it doesnt matter .. thats a long story ). basically video 'shows' 72 dpi ( basically what the monitor resolution is...typically 72 dpi ).  As you know from print and dimensions, there is a relative sorta thing with byte count ( file size in bytes ), ppi ( I usually say dpi but in video its ppi ....same thing basically )..., and dimensions ( width x height ).
soooo , as you know in print and web stuff...there is a relationship between number of dots or pixels, dimensions in inches or pixels, and overall byte count of file size....
That said, in "print" it is usually best to go with 300dpi.. In video it is best to go with 72 ppi.....
Also, in print and going offest press.. its nice to go with cmyk ( for color separations ).. but in video and web its best to go with RGB.
The video stuff doesnt deal with vector stuff... it just sees and deals with bitmapped stuff...vector stuff is a mathematical sorta thing whereas video stuff is just plain old bitmaps ( like BMP, TIF, JPG, etc )...
Ideally your still images and graphics in a video editing program would be bitmapped rgb 72 ppi.. and match exactly the dimension of your video format ( eg. 1080p ).  That said, it is normal to have LARGER images ( still images and graphics ) than your project dimensions if you PLAN ON SCALING AND MOTION )... like, your original graphic or pic can be larger than the project if you plan on scaling it down over time to make it look like you are zooming out in the video ....
To get the best results of a graphic or picture in a video is to have it exactly the project size ( eg. 1920x1080 px at 72 ppi for full HD ).
soooooo.... if you convert your vector to bitmap, save as psd or tif or something... at 72ppi , with the dimensions in inches or pixels that equals the video ( 1920x1080 for example )... you will see what you want in your second sample ( the original )...
ps.. you can import layers to the video if you wanna do a psd file and have ONE of those layers the one you use in your video ...can label it something like " video layer " ... whatever...
