Images gone after exporting to DVD

Wow, was this ever a surprise. I exported images by selecting individual albums to a DVD for Back up. Now I have all the images on DVD but they are totally gone from iPHoto, including the library. So now I don't have the originals, or at least access to them. What the heck happened? That's crazy. Exporting has always sent a copy of the edited image not the whole shabang. Any way of getting them back and linked up with the originals?

As you have probably deduced by not, that ain't the way it's supposed to work. Using the Share->Burn menu option will produce a disk that's an iPhoto formated disk. You can mount the disk and then open iPhoto. The disk will show in the Source pane directly under the Library icon like this. You can drag that disk icon onto the Library icon and copy back all of those photo, any albums they are associated with, keywords, etc.

  • Images deleted after export (Aperture 3.4)

Exported my newly imported images using the Export Originals function in Aperture. After that, all exported images were gone from the file system (previews still showing in Aperture but the refernced files are gone, also not in the Trash, but "fully gone").

One more question - I forgot: What is your current Aperture version? Have you upgraded to Aperture 3.4? Then you may need to reinstall Aperture - see this support article:
Aperture 3.4: May quit unexpectedly on launch after updating
Not to mention that Aperture crashed in the meantime, then claimed the library is locked, I had to reboot and then to wait 30 mins for the library to be fixed as it was corrupted...
After a crash Aperture will repair the library, but it may be necessary to rebuild it is well, see: Aperture 3 User Manual: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library

  • Still Image distortion and washed out image quality after exporting

    Hi,
I am a relatively new Final Cut Studio 2 user I've taken a few classes and I know the basics and a little beyond. So far my projects have been coming out well until I started having to add still images to my projects. When I add these images I size down in Photoshop CS3 appropriately, usually they are really large tiffs or standard jpegs. Then when I import them into Final Cut I size them one more time to match the wire frame. When I play the movie I created in Final Cut it looks great but after I export it using compressor I either get a pixilated type of image distortion or the images are washed out, but its usually only on certain images not all images in the project are affected. My projects usually end up embedded on our website or up on youtube or bliptv, so I have been bouncing between the H.264 300Kbps for medium bandwidth streaming and H.264 800 Kbps for high bandwidth. Would someone be able to tell me if there is a better codec I should use for the web that would get rid of these problems that I am having or do I need to size my images in a different way? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    The Louse~

  • Image Stitches after exporting to PDF

    Hi guys,
I have exported PDF documents from InDesign in virtually all standards and option configurations. The output would sometimes look good but upon closer inspection white lines would appear across images; these images are divided into (seemingly) random sections.
I have done some research and this seems to be a problem with the transparency flattener. Having used all standards (PDF 1.3 through PDF 1.7) this cannot be the problem. All standards starting 1.4 do not use the transparency flattener as far as I know. Also, most pages of the document do not use transparency, shadow, blending modes or any effects for that matter. The problem occurs with even the smallest and simplest images.
The InDesign documents I export are in fact 11X17 tabloid versions of different 4-page brochures. I created a tabloid-sized page and imported each of the 4 pages to the tabloid page. The problem occurs only when exporting these tabloid documents to PDF. The original imported InDesign documents do not have that problem - I made sure.
At first, the problem seemed to be with importing InDesign documents, but this isn't so. I exported the original InDesign documents to EPS and imported those to the Tabloid page - the same thing happens.
I have spent hours trying to figure this out and eventually gave up and printed everything with the lines. By disabling anti-aliasing I could get rid of the lines on-screen. I haven't tried but don't think it'd do anything in print.
Can anyone recommend a solution or at least an idea? I'm willing to try anything as this is happening with every 11X17 tabloid brochure that I create. At the moment the only thing I can think of is copying and pasting the original content to the 11X17 tabloid document, but this would be time consuming and impractical, especially when master pages exist - and this is also assuming that the problem really is with placing InDesign/EPS documents.
    Thank you,
    Tom.

You say the flattener isn't active, but eps doesn't support transparency so those pages got flattened before you placed them.
As Mike is alluding, there was a bug in the first release of CS3 that sometimes caused stitching in placed ID files, so the problem may well be at import, rather than export.

  • Still Images Rippling After Export

I'm exporting a 1920x1080 video from FCP. Everything looks great on the final export, except three images ripple badly while in motion. This doesn't happen on the timeline. Plus, other images come out just fine. So the issue seems inconsistent.
    Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

sounds like it could be a moire issue which is usually caused by fine lines in an interlaced sequence.
Is your sequence interlaced?   In sequence settings (make the timeline active and hit command-zero) set field dominance to none.   this may reduce the quality of the other material in your sequence if it is interlaced.  One solution is to prebuild the problem sections in their own progressive (non interlaced) sequence with the same pixel dimensions as your original sequence and export and then edit this quicktime in to your original sequence.

  • Why does "Â" show up in image title after export?

This drives me nuts. When exporting files, the title changes on my images. The character "Â" appears within the title of my image. It's doesn't appear when I look under Library>Metadata. So everytime I use the exported files on my blog, I need to go in and change the name to a whole gallery of images.
    Please help.

  • Small image size after exporting

    Hello,
When I export an image with dimesions of 4214x3371, the image size will show as 1.124x1.405''. This is a problem because I am trying to print my images on a 16x20'' canvas. My resolution is set at 3000ppi and I am exporting RAW files to an uncompressed TIFF file with my color space being ProPhoto RGB.
Any input would be appreciated, this is quite frusterating.

Let's see ... 4214 pixels divided by 3000 pixels per inch is um ... wait where's my calculator ... 1.405 inches!
of course, the whole calculation is meaningless, it has no effect on what gets printed
If you send a picture that is 4214x3371 pixels to be printed at 16x20 ... you ought to get decent prints at about 211 pixels per inch (where did that come from? 4214/20 inches is about 211 pixels per inch)
So, basically, you have enough pixels to do the print. The resolution number in the file is truly meaningless here, if you ignore it and do the math the way I did, you find out you are fine. If you try to interpret this meaningless number, well, you get misled seriously.

  • Movies gone after exporting out of iphoto

does anyone know why my movies were reduced to mere pictures after i exported them out of iphoto? they were working fine in iphoto, but took up too much space so i wanted to put them with other movies on a disc. and now there only pictures, no more movies. what happened and how can i get the whole movie back? please help!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What are the options you're using to export the movie file? Have you run the latest iPhoto updates? Other's have reported that but I think the latest update has fixed it as I can export with either the Original or Current format option and get the full .mov file.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • "Unsupported image format" after exporting original RAW file

My library has been working fine (albeit slow - it is very large).  Today I exported a photo that I have edited and played around with many times in the past.  I inadvertantly exported the Original, and I got an error message (which I don't recall what it said) but then immediately afterward, I could not view the image.  I can't remember if I chose a duplicate version or the edited master to export (not sure why it would make a difference).  Either way the photo did not export and it is now completely unviewable.  I am trying to repair my library to see if that will help.  If not I will try to reprocess my originals (I can't seem to find a way to just reprocess the one image so will have to run it for my entire library).  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What is your Aperture 3 version?
The symptoms you are describing suggest, that Aperture has lost the connection between the edited version of the image and the original image file. This will typically result in being unable to export the originals or to edit.
As a test - what happens when you select the image in question and press the "M" key to toggle between original version and current version?
I see this, when the original file is missing:
Is your library referenced or managed?

  • Preview image missing after export

    Using iPhoto 6.0.3.
I need to export the photos in my collection to JPEG for use on a PC.
I select a photo (or photos), then choose File > Export.
I use the File Export tab, then select the following options:
    Format = JPG
    Size = 320 x 240 (the original is 2560 x 1920)
    Name = Use title
    Use Extension = Checked
    I then press Export.
I export to a shared folder on my PC across my network.
I use the resulting JPEG in Macromedia RoboHelp X5 on my PC.
As soon as I select the JPEG in RoboHelp, I cannot see the preview header image. RoboHelp compiles help system files into Java-driven HTML. When viewing the resulting HTML files, the images properly appear.
What does iPhoto do that doesn't allow it to carry the preview header image with it?
On my PC, if I open the JPEG in ImageReady then Save As Optimized, the preview header suddenly reappears.

You can use the extract all images tool to recover the images. If there are many images on multiple pages, extract the desired page first and then do the extract all images to get the desired image.

  • Line running horizontal after exporting to DVD

The 'line' cuts the screen in half and is there for 80% of the shots.
    It isn't a black line.
It looks to me like the top half and bottom half of the screen are overlapping by one/two pixels.
The project is mixed with the usual jpeg, avi, mpeg and assorted effects.
The footage was taken in High Def.
I've burned it on a Maxell DVD+R disk.
The whole thing is about 4 minutes long.
I chose the export to Encore, and direct to DVD burn option.
    The Summary states:
    Summary is:
    NTSC @ 29.97fps, Upper, Quality 4.6
    Multiplexer: none
    I checked the deinterlaced option.

    >I checked the deinterlaced option.
    Don't. See what happens.

  • Parts of Audio Gone After Export

When I export my movie from FCE as a Quicktime Movie to be burned with iDVD, parts of the audio arent there. The whole movie plays back fine in FCE but as soon as its exported, theres missing audio. All of the audio is rendered so I'm not to sure what's going on. Is there any way to fix this?

Did you Mixdown the audio? (First, Edit>Select all then Sequence>Render Only>Mixdown)
Do you have ALL your render options selected before you render?
Any MP3 files in the sequence?

  • Still images exported to DVD look deinterlaced and flicker on TV monitor

    Hi,
I have tried tried almost everything and I still have issues with the still images exported to DVD as sequencefrom FCP 7.0 by using Compressor are deinterlaced and flicker on TV monitor. Please help remove the annoying flicker.
My FCP Timeline Sequence settings match the image resolution:
    Frame Size: 1024 x 682 (double of 720 x 480 standard DVD res)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
    Field Dominance: None
Compressor: Photo JPG (also tried, DVCPRO-NTSC)
I cropped the original images in Photoshop to the 1024 x 682 and saved as tiffs. They still look deinterlaced in FCP timeline and exported to DVD on my iMac computer monitor.
Final output of DVD will be on this monitor:
    Specifications:
    Ikegami
    Model: VCM-2101
    Resolution: 450 TV Lines (Horizontal)
Should I crop the images to 450 horizontal pixels or the double of that 900?
How can I match the sequence or the images settings to avoid the flicker and deinterlaced look on that monitor? I am not able to test the image by having the monitor next to computer.
    Compressor:
I used custom DVD settings in Compressor for 90 min best quality DVD. Tried the Porgressive and "Same as Source" in Output field.
In "Crop to" and "Padding" I set for preserve source aspect ratio and letterbox area of source.
I followed the advices from below and I still did not resolve the problem. Please is there anythign else I can try?
    Thanks a lot..
    Re: Poor Quality Stills
Dec 19, 2006 4:08 PM (in response to Steve Braker)
Things to try (In increasing order of image degradation)
    - (in FCP) field order>none
    - (in FCP or Photoshop) reduce whites by 10% - reduces overly bright areas
    - (in FCP) flicker filter - minimum
    - (in Photoshop) motion blur>vertical> .2 - .5 pixels - blurs vertically only
    - (In FCP or Photoshop) Gaussian blur> .2 - .5 pixels -blurs both horizontally as well as vertically
    - (in FCP or Photoshop) deinterlace - throws away half the image and is generally not appropriate on scanned images

    Dear Russ,
Thank you very much. Yes, there is something else in the sequence, old documentary, 768 x 570 (no field dominance, 25fps, Apple ProRes 422) but the images are more imporant.
make a progressive sequence with  square pixels. (I am partial to 720P, 1080 should work – or 540). Choose Pro Res 422
Do you mean that I should make a sequence in FCP with these settings? If yes, how can I set a "progressive" sequence? I dont see a setting for output field in FCP sequence settings, lnly in customizing Compressor output DVD format.
Also: "720P, 1080 should work – or 540" are you talking about Frame size? If so, to set in Compressor or in FCP?
If you have interlaced material, then de-interlace before you bring it in. If you don't have interlaced clips, don't de-interlace.
The images are not interlaced after  I crop them, apply motion blur filter in Photoshop but look interlaced in FCP timeline after I import them and even to the same as photos sequence in FCP timeline.
Please help and thank you for your comments.

  • Quality not the same after exporting movie made up of jpg images

Basically I made an animation sequence on Autodesk Maya and rendered the sequence as 2000 jpeg images each representing 1 frame, put it in one folder and on Adobe Premiere imported and dragged the folder into the timeline to make a moving image so in other words my video is made up of hundreds of jpg images.
Now on the editor it all looks HD and fine but when I export it via file > export > media, in order to match the sequence to the screen I must click on 'match sequence settings' which will snap the whole movie into the window rather than have it widescreen and once I do this I can't modify anything else such as codec, etc (codec is automatically set as MPEG -Frame and the output automatically is mpeg), is this normal? Why is it mpeg ajnd not avi...
So once I export the video with these settings (image uploaded) the quality is ok but not as good as what I see in the Premeire editor, why? What can I do to improve the quality?
On the other hand if I don't click on match to sequence settings and personally customise the paramaters such as avi, I use max settings for many things but after exporting my picture quality actually goes worse compared tomatch to sequence settings? (which has less parameters)
Why is this happening, all my jpeg images are high quality 720p and I should just be able to export it as normal...
I am trying to make a cut-scene to get into Unity so the codec is important as well.
How can I make my video best quality as possible being mpeg or avi? What settings do I need to play with?

Maybe I misunderstood, but did you actually put 2000 still images on the timeline? If so, there is another way. Go to Import and find your folder, and select only the first still in your sequence, then check the box at the bottom of the import windows that says "Numbered Sequence" or something like that. This will import the stills as a "video" clip.
Regarding Export, don't check Frame Blending or Max Render, the first being for a change of frame rate and the latter being useful for a downscale of the frame size. You are doing neither.
Also, never use "Match Sequence Settings". Leave that unchecked, and then choose whatever format YOU want to use for the export, whether .avi or H.264 or whatever.
    Thanks
