Images in a Safari Webarchive vanish after a few days - how do I keep them?

Hi All,
I've come back to Macs after many years of being forced to use a PC. Never did like the way IE splits a saved web page into two parts, with a main file + a folder full of all the image files and gifs. Always struck me as a very inelegant solution. After fighting with Safari I'm now not so sure...
As I understand it I can save webpages in Safari in Webarchive format. Unfortunately the images seem to remain available only as long as they remain in the Safari cache on my computer or as long as they remain available on the website itself. Is there really no way of saving them permanently without saving all the individual images one by one (and out of context!) ?
This has really put me off Safari... Am even thinking of installing IE on my Mac (but can't think of anything worse than having Microsoft's tentacles sprawled all across the inner workings of this beautiful little laptop!)
Any possible solutions or 'work-arounds'?

I can't answer your question regarding saving
graphics, but IE is not a good alternative. If I
remember correctly, MS has stopped further
development of IE for the Mac. You're better off
trying Firefox -- http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ --
or Camino -- http://www.caminobrowser.org/.

Just installed Mozilla Firefox. Looks like It saves files in the same way as IE, that is with a main directory html file + a separate folder with all the jpegs and gumf. However, I read somewhere that the jpegs are lower resolution than those downloaded with Safari or IE, is that true?
I wasn't seriously thinking about installing IE (arrrggghh noooo!) - just making a point. Nevertheless, the question stands is there a way of using Safari Web Archives for permanent archiving), or am I gonna have to switch to Firefox?
(The phrase "Web Archive" seems to be one of the new "great lies" of Mac advertising, as far as I can tell...)
