Images in Finder/Coverflow SERIOUSLY pixelated

Has anyone had issues with coverflow in Finder seriously pixelating images?
I'm having it in random folders (but not all) and I cannot find any rhyme or reason for it.
Is Leopard generating previews and just not done yet maybe?
Here's an example of what I'm seeing:
http://www.allenrockwellphoto.com/images/pixelated.jpg
As I said, some folders show images sharp and clear, others show them this way ... there seems to be no logic to it.

I have the same problem with images on the internal disk, although they were copied there from a external after my erase and install. Raw files look fine and so do smaller jpegs. I also see the issue with psd files but not pngs.
I think this has to do with the new higher resolution leopard icons. This is what I think is happening.
Those jpegs were saved on a tiger system. When the file was written there was a icon thumbnail generated at a 128x128 pixels. This was the largest size supported by OS X up until leopard. New leopard icons can be up to 512x512 pixes, W00t!
So as a result your icon preview stored with the file is 128x128 but is being scaled to whatever size your cover flow window is sized to. Hence, causing pixelization (sp?).
To test this I opened one of the problem images in preview, did a "save as" to a new file and voila! beautiful coverflow icons. However, my photoshop CS3 is still unaware that it should be writing higher rez thumbnails. Perhaps I should run adobe updater...
I'm looking for a command line or apple script way to update these thumbnails without changing the modified or created dates so the process can be scripted.
Ideally you should point the script to a directory, find all image files with less than 512x512 icons, regenerate the thumbnail and preserve any modified or created dates.
The sips command line tool doesn't seem to do the trick. Any ideas?

  • Can I convert 3D image to an array of pixels in LabVIEW?

    Hi all;
I am still new with labview. I has 1 question, can I convert 3D image to an array of pixels using labview?
Most of the examples I found they only convert 2D image. Hope anyone can give me some hint.
    Thank You

    look at this thread.
It has links to other threads where the 3D graphs were used.
You should also search for "gif reader" to find threads where images are read from gif files.

  • Oversaturated photos in Finder Coverflow

I've just upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and noticed that all photos/pictures shown in Finder Coverflow is oversatured. This was not a problem in Snow Leopard. Probably, someone forgot to assign a spesific color space to it in Mountain Lion. Although it's not a major bug, I still consider it a major flaw. I'm a photographer and I do rely on the software to be consistent from creation to delivery. The way it is now, I always get a bit hesitant whenever I go through the finished photos in Finder Coverflow just check it's the right files for delivery and suchs.. quite a pain in the ***
Are there any fixes or tips to correct this?

How noticeable the difference is depends on what you're using for a monitor profile. If it's sRGB (or the supplied profile is basically the same color space), you won't see much change. Use a wider gamut profile like Adobe RGB or Pro Photo RGB and it sticks out like a sore thumb.
You can see it happen just by doing this. Blues are the most obvious. Put a copy of the App Store or Safari application on the desktop. Now grab the copy with mouse and start to move it. You'll see that even drag image under the mouse cursor is wrong.

  • How do I delete images in Finder's "all my Files" when I have the same pictures in a file in Documents? It seems like a lot of duplication. If I delete the individual image it disappears in the folder. Thank You.

How do I delete images in Finder's "all my files" without deleting the images in a separate folder I have in Documents? It seems to be so much duplication. Just set up our new Mac and am not understanding how the files work. Thank you.

All My files is a "search folder"
it isn't real storage location. All files within your home folder are found by the criteria set for the search folder and displayed to you In one place.
If the folder doesn't meet your needs, remove it from the sidebar.

  • How to rotate a thumbnail image in Finder?

Is there a way to rotate a thumbnail image in Finder? When I click a photo in a Finder folder, the image automatically opens in Preview and the image is correctly displayed right side up. But the thumbnail image is displaying a vertical photo horizontally. Can I rotate the thumbnail?

    corelle,
please open the sidebar of the Preview window and check how the thumbnail is displayed there.
If the orientation is wrong in the Preview sidebar as well, then apparently some program rotated the image but not the EXIF preview image, which is obviously not a good thing.
If the orientation is correct in the Preview sidebar, but wrong in the Finder, then the file probably has a custom icon with wrong orientation. This should then be removed rather than rotated. It's useless anyhow because Snow Leopard's Finder can better use the EXIF preview image instead.

Have you checked the sorting settings to make sure they are as you expect?

RAW images in Lightroom aren't opening in camera raw in Photoshop.  Instead, I have to open the image in Finder before it will open in Camera Raw in Photoshop.  How can I correct that?

Your question is a little unclear. In a "normal" Lightroom/Photoshop workflow the raw images do not open from Lightroom into Camera Raw. Lightroom has all of the Camera Raw functionality in the develop module. When you choose to open an image in Photoshop, and Lightroom and Photoshop are synchronized (i.e. referencing the same version of Camera Raw) then Camera Raw is simply used to interpret the Lightroom adjustments as the image is transferred to Photoshop. If Camera Raw is an older version then Lightroom offers you the choice to open the image or create a PSD or TIF file that includes all of the Lightroom adjustments. But in either case, opening in Camera Raw is not part of the workflow. It is possible to open the image as a smart object or convert the image to the smart object in Photoshop and then open it in Camera Raw. That is done from within Photoshop or is one of the open options in Lightroom. If you choose to go the smart object route the image first has to be opened in Photoshop and then from there you can open it in Camera Raw.

Is there a compatibility issue? I can see the folders/images in Finder but when trying to synchronise folders in Lr it does not recognise that there are any images and therefore unable to import to catalogue. Anyone has any idea how to make it work. Thanks a lot.

    Hi Elba,
Thank you very much for your reply. Not sure, however, that we are talking about the same problem.
I am trying to perform the same function in Lr that I have been doing for many years in the past and has only been a problem in the last few days (possibly coinciding with upgrading to Yosemite, trying to find out whether that is the problem)
I am not intending to sync any files with Creative Cloud but only trying to use 'Synchronize Folder' function in Lr. Normally, I would right click on a particular folder in Lr catalogue and click on that function to check that the Lr Catalogue is perfectly matching my drives where the original photos are actually stored.
The problem that I only started to encounter is that I can see the files on the actual drives but they do not appear in my Lr Catalogue and they are completely invisible to Lr. I simply can not get Lr to recognise them and then import them to catalogue.
If for example, I export images to Ps and then save and close them, they do appear on my drive but are invisible to Lr and I can't get them imported into the catalogue. Import to folder also not producing any results as they are still invisible to Lr.
Completely baffled by it. Any idea what could be the reason?
    Kind regards,
    Nik

I've been sent a scan of a document as an attachment. Clicking on it, I get the message, "Pixel aspect ration correction is for preview purposes only. Turn it off for maximum image quality." What is pixel aspect ration and how do I turn it off?

It's "aspect ratio", not aspect "ration".
It's what determines whether you have square pixels ("normal") or, if rectangular pixels, what the aspect ratio (width : length)  of that rectangle is.
It's explained in the Help files.  I cannot go into more detail because you have neglected to provide information about your platform and exact version of Photoshop.

  • When I import or drag/drop an image from Finder into Pages, it floats the image instead of keeping it inline with text

I'm new to Pages and I've searched online for an answer to this question but haven't found anything quite what I need.
When I import an image from Finder (or drag and drop from Finder) into Pages, the Text Wrap default is "automatic" which seems to be "in front of text." I have to manually click each image and then change it from "Automatic" to "Inline With Text." Is there a way to change the default so it's not "Automatic" but "Inline With Text" to save me these steps for every single image I import?
(If importing from Media Browser would behave differently, I don't use iPhoto except for Photo Stream so I need to bring them in from where I've saved them in my Finder.)
Thanks so much for any help!

Good questions...  I'll have to try and figure out when the problem first happened - I was thinking it was when I upgraded to Safari 5.1.4 but that might not be the case...  I'll try your suggestions to see if any of them eliminate the problem (I have restarted recenlty and that didn't fix it) but I'll try repairing permissions, etc.  Thanks!
hmmm... Mcbuffy: are you implying that you *don't* get the webloc when dragging an image out of Safari and that this isn't a caused by change to Safari but is a big/conflict in mine?

I would like to be able to size images by kilobytes instead of pixels--is this possible?  I use I-Contact which requires a maximum of 70kb per image.  For best quality I want to make the images as close to 70 as possible.  Currently I choose a size of 300 pixels on the shortest side but sometimes this gives me an image of slightly greater than 70kb and sometimes the image is just 30-40kb.  Is there a way to be more precise in reaching but not exceeding 70 kb?

That is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.
You can opnly resize using the available options and file size is not one of them

  • How to import a image and compare with another image to find their deviation

i am new to labview , can anyone tell how to import a image and compare  it with another image  to find their deviation
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

This is an quite easy task using the Vision Development Module.
There you can acquire images from cameras or read them form the harddrive, then differntiate them or since VDM 2010 calculate the optical flow between consecutive images.

  • Where did I found the images in Finder?

For a while ago, I found some images in Finder of, among others; iPad, iMac Unibody, some MacBooks, etc. Now, I can't remember where I found them. Does anyone have experienced the same, and can tell me where in Finder they are?

You may have found them in the Resources folder of the CoreTypes.bundle. Take a look here:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle
Then right click on the bundle and select "Show Package Contents" and continue burrowing down. There are lots of icns graphics files for apple hardware. They will open in Preview when double clicked and you can resave them as jpegs to use somewhere else.
