    Team,
Please help me for a confusion that can i install flar image of solaris 10 from V890 to v480?
We have very good flar image of solaris 10 and want to install same on other machine.

Generally speaking, as long as you are in the same processor family (4u, 4m, 4c, 4v etc) you can do so.
The caveat is that the OS has to support the particular model you are on. No worries with S10 though.

  • Creating Disk Image for Solaris 8 Admin Pack

    Hi,
When I download the zip files "Software CD Image" for Solaris 8 Admin Pack / Solstice AdminSuite 3.0 and "Documentation CD Image", I get a zip file containing the contents of an installation disk (ie files and directories) rather than ISO files for creating a disk.
lf I then burn these to a CD (in either UDF or 9660 format) and try to install, it fails for various reasons, not least of which is the fact that the top level installation file does not have X permission. I know that I could copy these files to the Sun, change permission and run from there, but for various reasons I also need to be able to install from CD.
Does anyone know either how to create a CD with the correct format / file permissions / etc, or alternatively where the correct ISO's can be retrieved?
    Thanks in advance.

Partition before installing, then try it. Alternatively, use something like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to put a bootable backup/clone onto the partition. That gives you something that you can immediately verify. A disk image requires restoring before you can be assured that it's viable. I've beta-tested Panther through Snow Leopard and have never made a disk image, only clones. Finally, creating the disk image takes much more time to create than does the clone. Just my 2¢. BTW, the image is useless unless you can successfully restore it. I have no idea why it's not working for you.

  • CD images of Solaris 9 - latest version

From where can I download CD images of Solaris 9 (latest version) to burn to CD's for install?

    Russ,
    Try this link:

Keep in mind that there have been no newer releases for Solaris 9, since 2005.
Should you decide you might try Solaris 10, but want something older than its newest version, then try:

Are you considering any particular cards ?
    I have had good luck with DEC21040 (10baseT) and DEC21140 (100baseT) cards
in Solaris 7 through Solaris 10 on x86.
The same can be said for 3Com 3C905C-TX cards.
Solaris 8x86 will recognize many chipsets natively,
and a number of third party developers have created working driver packages.
Most of their driver packages are free, but a few are not free.
Solaris 9 works with a few more, and Solaris 10 works with yet more adapters.
The Solaris 8x86 HCL list has the native cards.
This other Sun web page can direct you toward 3rd party sites.

  • How to create ISO images for Solaris 10 U6 (10/08) SPARC CD 1 and DVD

The format of the bootable DVD and CD 1 of Solaris 10 U6 sparc has changed from previous Solaris 10 update's sparc media, it now seems to be more like the x86 format, can anyone provide the new/specific mkisofs command to use to recreate (modified version) a sparc bootable ISO image file of these from their "unloaded" directory paths, I'm guessing the mkisofs command is going to be similiar what's used for recreating Solaris 10 x86 DVD and CD1.

    Alan,
Thanks for info, when I try this mkisofs command to recreate the Sol 10 U6 CD 1 ISO image I end up 16 KB short of the original downloaded ISO size of Sol 10 U6 CD 1, the generated ISO image when burn to CD doesn't boot, I tried using both mkisofs version that comes with Sol 10 U6 & version *2.01.01a53*, here's the test I did:
mount Sol 10 U6 CD 1 as /mnt (CD 1 burned from downloaded ISO from Sun that is *512904 KB* in size)
    mkisofs -G /mnt/boot/hsfs.bootblock -B ... -l -ldots -R -N -D -V SOL_10_1008_SPARC -o test.iso /mnt
Genereated ISO image file test.iso is *512888 KB* in size and doesn't boot when burned to CD with error messages:
    Can't read disk label.
    Can't open disk label package
    ERROR: boot-read fail
    Any ideas?

  • X11 6.6.2 Xsun patch incompatible with imaging applications - Solaris 10

    Hello,
I am running Sol 10 11/06 on a Sun Blade (64-bit). After installing patch 119059-27, an imaging application that is vital to my workflow will no longer run. I get a Segmentation Fault.
The application is ENVI Freelook, and is available for free at:
    http://rsinc.com/download/download.asp?searchstring=FreeLook&ProductVersion=All+Products
Neither the 64- or 32-bit Sparc versions of Freelook will now work. After removing the patch, reverting to patch level 119059-25, Freelook will work again. If Freelook doesn't run, it is probable that the IDL, a high-level programming language, and ENVI, a popular imaging application written in IDL, also will not work with the new Xsun patch. This is not good.
Is there a workaround for this problem? Or shall I just wait for the next version, hoping that the problem won't recur? Is this the right forum to post this problem?

This isn't the right forum because this forum is only for problems with the patching toolset, and not for problems with patches themselves. The Solaris forum might be able to help with this one.

  • Where can I download CD Images of Solaris 8 2/04?

Need to reinstall Solaris 8 for our SUN host Netra V440 due to power failure. Cannot find CDs anywhere.
Can anyone point out when to download Solaris 8 2/04?

    Solaris 8 is EOL
    Solaris 9 is now EOL
Whatever downloads that may have existed have now been pulled (no longer available).
Sun will only offer what might be a current product. Solaris 10 is the only current download offering.
I suggest you purchase a media kit from an online auction web site (for example, Ebay).

  • Best way to update a solaris jumpstart OS image.

    Hi all,.
Ive been recently building some v240's but have run into trouble with the rather out of date 02/02 instance of Solaris 8 (yes, i did say solaris 8 - it's a political thing..)
Anyhow, I have cd images of Solaris 8 02/04 and have a copy of the Sun Blueprints Jumpstart book by "Howard and Noordergraph".
On page 92, it says to use the "setup_install_server" script with the -b option for /jumpstart/OS/Solaris-xx-xx-xx.
Ive done that without any probs, then it goes on to say if you want an install server do the same command again without the -b switch.
Problem is that it spews out this message.
    733 root@bbs00080 # ./setup_install_server -b /jumpstart/OS/Solaris_8_02-2004/
    Verifying target directory...
    setup_install_server:
The target directory /jumpstart/OS/Solaris_8_02-2004/ is not empty. Please choose an empty
directory or remove all files from the specified directory and run
    this program again.
So i chose an empty directory and it goes and does it.
    Is this an errata?
I already have /jumpstart/OS/Solaris_8_02-2002/ and I wanted to update the files so that I can boot the v240r.
Except 02/02 doesnt let me do that as it doesnt support the v240r arch.
Sun told me this, but I'm lost because my existing profile for this box, lists all the packages I want to install, but it whinges about not being able to find a .cdrom toc file.
I already have three flash archives which i created from good builds from 02/02, in my rules file which work, but this pesky update for the 240r is getting to be a little tricky.
So far, ive tried copying all the packages from 02/02/Products directory into 02/04/Products but some of them don't install despite being there.
Can anyone suggest the best way to update my 02/02 with the 02/04 boot loader for the v240?
Thanks in advance and sorry for any confusion.
    D.

I'm sorry. I meant. Say my array of x positions is 3, 4, 9. I change 9 to 30. How can I make the polygon see that change?

  • Problem booting Solaris 10 on ProLiant server after installation.

    Hi all!
I have a brand new HP ProLiant DL360 G5 server. It contains 6 internal
hard drives. RAID 5 is configured on these drives using built-in HP
Smart Array P400i controller. I've just installed Solaris 10 8/07 on this
server. Solaris requires a driver for P400i controller. I'm using Driver
Update CD created from HP provided ISO image. Solaris 10 is
officially supported OS for DL360 G5 server.
    Installation proceeds as expected:
    1) At the begining of Solaris installation, Driver Update is used to
load HP driver for raid controller. During installation, disk is
recognized as c1d0t0 (the only disk in system); one partition is
    created on this disk.
    2) Disk is devided to 6 slices:
    c1d0t0s0 - swap, 4GB
    c1d0t0s1 - /, cca 32GB
    c1d0t0s[3,4,5,6] - /zones/[a,b,c,d] - each cca 160GB
    3) At the end of installation, CPQary3 driver is installed to target
system without any errors reported. No errors are reported during
    installation at all.
After reboot, GRUB is started. It shows boot menu containing two
    options:
    - Solaris 'normal' boot
    - failsafe boot
PROBLEM: Selecting 'normal' boot leads to immediate system restart.
According to documentation, this case occurs when PCQary3
    driver is not installed.
I'm able to boot using 'failsafe' option in grub. After entering single
user, I load PCQary3 driver to runtime using 'install-du' command.
I'm also able to find instaled Solaris using 'install-recovery' and mount
its root volume to /a directory. Necessary driver IS installed inside
/a/kernel/drv/ directory. Options 'bootpath' in /a/boot/solaris/bootenv.rc
file is set up correctly pointing to device associated with /dev/dsk/c1d0t0s1
device. Also GRUB is able to recognize UFS filesystem for boot partition.
    I've already tried (without success):
    1) Use RAID 1+0 instead of RAID5
    2) Create only 3,5GB partition instead of 700GB large one.
    3) Place / on c1d0t0s0 instead of c1d0t0s1.
    4) Re-create boot archive using 'bootadm update-archive -R /a'
So, everything seems to be installed correctly, but system cannot boot.
Do you have any ideas how to fix this problem?
    Jozef

Sounds like an issue I just had with a brand new X4150, installation and failsafe worked fine, but normal booting led to immediate reboot of the server. This was due to an incompatibility of solaris and intel's newest generation xeon chips.
You can still boot 'normal' solaris in 32-bit mode:
hit 'e' at the grub menu, 'e' again to edit the 'normal' boot entry and add 'kernel/unix' after multiboot. This should boot up solaris in 32-bit mode. From there, download and install the latest patch set (125370-06 and 127112-05 are fixing this issue). After that you should be fine.

    Regards
    Claus

    Hello All,
I would love to know if someone has a solution to this as I am seeing a similar issue with a slightly different setup.
Solaris 8 and Netra 240. I get the same result with and without patches and finish scripts. After the jumpstart and the failed boot attempt from disk. I can boot from cd, copy the glm driver from the cd to disk, and then everything works as it should. Obviously this is not a solution but only a work around.
Is it something to do with the SCSI hardware architecture used in the *240s?
