Images in XML Form

Hi Guys,
Need some help here. I want to set a fix image in my renderlistitem view. I have store the images in a folder in KM and have place the file path at the 'image url' of the form. Unfortunately, when i try to disply in the portal, i got a blank image with a small 'x' with caption 'show this image'. What am i doing wrong here? Thanks

HI
while navigating in ur xml to fix the location of image could u able to have a thumbnail image in the selection screen ?
it could that generation of thumbnail will be terminated automatically after 60 sec after this time u will find image with default x mark.
try with image of low size ,as this could be one solution if i am predicting the problem correctly
u may need to need to configure it in thumbnail plugins if u want ur high quality image to be loaded.

• Images and XML forms and Images and scaling

Hello,
I have two questions about using images in XML forms.
1) How do I insert images into the XML form editor.
The thread HTML Editor in XML Form? (Posted: Aug 26, 2004 7:50 PM), discuss how the HTML Editor in XML forms can be extended to be able to insert images like in the KM editor.
Has anyone any practical experience with this?, as the thread is fairly old.
And is there other solutions which are more suited?
The portal is running on WAS 6.40, EP 6.0 SP11
2) Is is possible for the portal to scale images
In the portal, different users will use XML forms to publish news stories. These users will want to publish images along with the text.
In many content management systems, the system will automatically scale the images (e.g. create one thumbnail, a mid-size image and keep the full size) Can this be achieved in the portal.
The reason for this is to make sure that no one can post a very large image and to make sure each image is the same size.
I'm interested in hearing how other people, solve the issue with uploading and scaling of images used in the portal.

Hello All,
I am currently running NW04 SPS14 Portal with KM & Collaboration.
However, the icons in the Content Management>> Explorer>> Documents repository are not displaying. Instead a little while box, with a red x sign appears in place of the images.

• Can we include a Document into a XML Form

Hi!
If I want to attach a document into a XML Form is posible?
i.e an Excell Document.
Thanx in Advanced!
Gerardo J

Hi Gerardo,
The info it's on my brain, jejeje, I have some experience with XML Forms. I really don't think you can attach (by standard/default) anything to an xml form, everything is a refence (even images).
XML Forms generates xml files, witch are rendered thru layouts and the configuration you set in the RenderList and Show forms.
Unless you find some kind of deployment that unifies the xml document with the file you want you will have to work with the references (link).

• XML form: associate the file extension with an image

Hello!
I am creating some XML forms and i have to ulpoad a file. This isn´t a problem, but in RenderListItem I have to associate the file extension with an image(For example .doc with Word icon). Is it possible to do this? Thanks

Hello ,
I'm sorry, but this is not covered within the standart. You have the opportunity to do so in normal LayoutSets but not within a link in XML Forms. Maybe it's a workaround for you to provide a image selection for the author in the edit form, to select such an image manualy.
hope this helps,

• How to reduce a PDF document that contains an Adobe XML form?

Hi,
I have created some fillable PDF files using Adobe LiveCycle Designer and used Adobe Acrobat Pro XI to save it as Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools (includes form fill-in and save)…
The form includes image, text field, check box, radio button, table and other controls, as well as java scripts behind. The files are from 1 to 3 MB in size. I tried Reduced Size PDF and Optimized PDF, but I got a message: “This PDF document contains an Adobe XML form. Such files cannot be optimized.”
My questions are:
Is there a way I can reduce the file greatly, say about 100 KB?
And after the size reduced, does it still keep the original quality in format and function?
Thanks

Hi,
if you only use default fonts like Arial or Myriad don't embed fonts into the form at all.
If you have to use a specific font because of corporate identity you should check if there are fields in your fom using other fonts like Arial.
Especially floating fields are a reason for big files as they use Designers default font even if you'll never see it in the PDF.
When using images, you should not check the "embed" checkbox, as this will save the images a base64-stream into the xml-source.
If unchecked the images are stored as hex-stream in the PDF-stream which cause a smaller file size.
Also, don't use high res images, 150dpi are far enough. You also don't need 16Bit depth as Designer only supports 8Bit images with RGB colors.

• Error in Browser field of XML Form

Hi All,
We have recently upgraded our portal system from NW 7.00 (SP23) to NW 7.01 (SP09).
Post upgrade we are facing an issue in XML forms for file browser element.
On the XML forms we have an element u201Cfile browseru201D which we use for attaching documents as attachments in the XML forms.
After upgrade, when we select a document using this element u201Cfile browseru201D, the file path is getting uploaded in the field without the file name. Hence after saving the XML forms when we try to display it and open the attachment in the XML forms, it is giving the following error.
The folder you are looking for has no displayable content. You can try one of the following:
u2022 Access the folder using the Navigation user interface.
u2022 Access the folder as a Web folder. Your operating system and browser dictate whether or not this will work.
Example : Suppose we are attaching a file f1.xls in /documents/images folder, the path captured in the browser textbox is /documents/images (it should be /documents/images/f1.xls).
This was working fine before the upgrade to NW 7.01 SP09.
Our system is already running LIVE on production and we are facing major issues due to this problem. Kindly provide a solution at the earliest.

• XML Form - Link open in Portal Content Area

I have created an XML form which displays a list of images as links to KM documents (eg a Read More... link).
The problem I have run into is that any link that you click on opens up in a new window.
Is there a setting somewhere that indicates that all links should be opened in the portal content area, rather than in a new window?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Kind Regards
Rasim

Rasim,
You can try doing this.
Logon to Portal.
Click Personalize option on the top left corner and choose work protect mode.
Choose "Discard unsaved data (open page in same window)"
Save and Exit.
Logoff and relogin and check.
Hope this helps.

• Background color on XML form

Hi,
I've created a 20x20 image of the background color I want, upload it to KM, and then use that in the Background Image parameter of the XML form. (the Background Repeat Mode is set to Repeat.)
It doesn't seem to work .any idea why ?
Regards,
Hadar

Hi Hadar,
You want to set a background image for the Show form
1.Select the Show form by clicking on the root node in the tree view.
2.Enter the address of the background image into the property background-image.
You have the following options:
• You can enter the URL of an image file.
• You can enter the parameter %imagepath% followed by the file name.
The parameter %imagepath% references a cross-project folder for images.
To define this folder, choose Global Options from the XML Forms Builder, and enter the complete path to a folder in a KM repository (for example, /documents/Globalimages) into the field Global Path for Images.
3.Choose the value repeat for the property background-repeat so that the image is repeated over the entire background.

• Link to a folder in XML form

Hi Guys!
I was faced with a strange problem.
I want to add link to some folder to an XML form. Like with link to 'Read more' document in SAP's example.
But...
If I select folder in a moment of creation of XML form via standard browser controll, there is path to that folder ('/documents/Public documents' for example) in a field. On presentation time (in NewsExplorer iView) clicking on that link opens 'http://myportal.domain/irj/go/km/docs/documents/Public documents/' instead of 'http://myportal.domain/irj/go/km/navigation/documents/Public documents/'...
What can I do with that?
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
DK

Hi Denis Kleymenov,
If you do not set "Start In" property of the "Browser" control, by default it will show you "root>>documents>>"
root = "http://servername:10000/irj/go/km/docs/"
For example if you select an image which is resided under "root\documents\teamindia.jpg" it will show you below path.
not as you expected below
"http://servername:10000/irj/go/km/nagivation/documents/teamindia.jpg"
if you need any specific repository folder for the target selection. Please set "Start In" property of the "Browser" control like below
Ex:
/Your repository name/followed by folder structure/
/XTest/Home/Documents/Images/
Thanks,
Satyadev

• Issue in XML Form Builder

Dear Experts,
i am new to XML Form Builders in Portal, so i have started with this document as my first form:
http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/ee639033-0801-0010-0883-b2c76b18583a?QuickLink=index&overridelayout=true
but i have come across two issues can you please guide me to troubleshoot this issue's:
Issue 1:
I have made changes as per the document but as per the document (refer page: 17, 2. point)
refer this image from document: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/825/xmlerror1.png/
New> Form>?, here my created News is not displayed
But it show like below:
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/839/xmlerror2.png/
As shown in the image no News form that I have created?
Did I miss anything?
Issue 2:
As per page 18 from same document:
Path to Initially Displayed Folder: /documents/myNews
Path to Root Folder for Navigation: /documents/myNews
I have created Iviews with the same pathu2019s and when I Preview I am getting the error as below:
Item not found
/documents/myNews
The item you are attempting to access is not available. Check that the name or link is correct. You might also check whether the associated repository is currently accessible.
It seems that I am completely in wrong track can someone guide me in right direction to solve this both the issues.
Full points will be awarded for sure!
Regards,
Mahesh

Hi,
Please read and try to understand the concept; give yourself some time. Try to understand what an XMLForms project is and how this differs from content based on such a project.
> Path to initially displayed folder : /documents/myNews
> Path to root folder for Navigation: /documents/myNews
These are just two settings for the KM navigation iView; you can read the (different) meanings on help.sap.com. But in short words: You just configure to which folder the KM navigation iView points to. That's all.
> so here it pointing to both newly created folder for saving the form created by the end users
If you have the iView, it is a KM nav iView pointing to this folder. Now an "end user" - it is: an author - can call this iView and can create content based on the XMLForms you have created before (Folder - New - Forms - ...). That's all. That works. End of story. Afterwards, XMLForms content objects based on your project are to be found in this folder.
> but this folder "myNews" does not contain the form which i have created
You have created an XMLForms project. Period. You can ("author" iView!!!) create content based on your project in that folder.
> so how do the end users see my form in first case.
??? Really, you have to be much more precise if you want to survive in IT... What is your "end user"? We are talking of an author iView. In that cas it is an author. And under "Folder - New - Forms - ..." there is the possibility to create new XMLForms content based on the project you have created. (That you have said by yourself - issue 1 was gone!!!)
There is nothing more to explain. That it everything. I really don't see your or any problem any more.
