Exactly what did you do? What do you mean by "unlock" an image?
You understand that there are no user servicable parts in the iPhotolibrary and you NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure or content of th eiPhoto library using any program except iPhoto don't you?

  • IPhoto images lost -- help!

    Like most users, I couldn't upload pictures from iPhoto to the internet because the iPhoto Library folder is grayed out.  I searched the forums and someone advised to copy the iPhoto Library folder to my desktop.  I did that and now I can't see any of my photos in iPhoto -- they've all been replaced with question marks -- and double clicking on the iPhoto Library folder produces no effect other than to open iPhoto.  There are no files in it.  Where are my photos?  I just lost ten years of my life and I'm pretty hysterical about it.  Hoping someone can help.  Thanks.

    Update on the above.  As I said, when I click on the desktop copy of iPhoto Library it opens iPhoto and there are only question marks.  When I search my entire MAC for jpgs, it shows me all of the images and identifies that they are indeed on my desktop in the iPhoto Library and gives me preview thumbnails.  However, when I try to open any of them, they open iPhoto and give me the question mark.  How is this possible?

    file:///.file/id=7873307.718I downloaded LR for MAC when my free trial ended.  But - I get a "renew your membership to reactivate the develop module" when I try to edit images.  Help!

    If you purchased the Perpetual Licensed version of Lightroom and received a 24 numeric serial number you will have to download the correct version from the link below.
    Before doing the new installation you will have to uninstall the existing version from your computer (it is the Creative Cloud version) since it is requesting you to "renew your membership" . This process will not interfere with your Catalog file, Preferences or your personal files, it will just remove the existing application. Both versions are the same application just a different download and activation process.
    Reboot your system then run the install of the Perpetual License download and input the serial number to activate. Things should be fine.

    I am trying to download Firefox 3.6 to use on my Mac OS X version 10.3.9. Three attempts and I continue to get "mounting failed" and "corrupt image". Help please?

    Firefox 3.6 requires at least OS X 10.4, the last version of Firefox that worked on OS X 10.3.9 was Firefox 2.0.0.20 which is available from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.20/mac/

  • IPhoto 6 - please help - images lost

    pls help if u can! i use iPhoto V6 and have 500 images that I have manipulated usign iPhoto where the original image may have been changed over time up to 10 times to render a new image - all saved correctly and filed under a sub system of changed images - this has been done over the previous 12 months
    however on booting up this week my thumbnails in each iPhoto folder show the correct image but on clicking to open the original image comes up
    i have never used the 'revert to original' tool - how has this happened?
    where are my final (changed images) sitting.....
    it looks like all images have reverted to their original when clicked on but this istn something I have manually done..

    Ben
    Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
    - all saved correctly and filed under a sub system of changed images -
    Could you explain what you mean by this please?
    If you go to the iPhoto library in your pictures folder and look (DO not move or change anything within the iPhoto library) at the originals folder and at the modified folder what do you see? The originals folder should contain the original photos and the modified folder the latest (One only) edited version

  • Help, Valuable images lost! REWARD OFFERED

    I was working in Aperture this morning when a message informed me that my library would be damaged if I did not open up space on my start up disk. I was moving files in an attempt to comply and closed Aperture. When I reopened it my entire library was gone and it presented an import library message as though I was opening the program for the first time. I immediately went to each of my vaults and library back-ups but they were all empty as well. Can anyone tell me if I might recover these files and how I do it? If you can help I will be eternally greatful and send you a reward. Thank you in advance.
    Greg Hughey

    When you say your vaults are empty as well, what
    criteria are you using? Is the size of each of them
    actually such that they could be empty? Not sure
    what's going on but it would be good if you could
    give some details first -- if the size is in the GB
    then your files are in there and its just a case of
    getting them restored -- which should be fairly
    simple. But let's get the specifics first before
    moving on to the next steps.
    I apologize for the frantic post. I have successfully recovered my library and all is fine. I was a little freaked out when I discovered my error and I was unable to recover the library. After a short study session I was able to comprehend how the vault system really works. I had no idea that that many high quality images could be compressed so well. Thank you for your support and I feel much safer now that I know the vault system is reliable. This incident has forced to rethink my resource allocation so that I don’t end up in a similar predicament. Thanks again for your prompt reply.

  • IPhoto's Pictures Forever Lost – Help!

    Hello to all,
    I am afraid that I have quite a sad and seemingly hopeless story to share with you, upon this cold and dreary Winter's day. My story begins some time ago, when I sold my 20" iMac and upgraded to a brand new 21". You might ask what sadness could be associated with such a splendid upgrade? I will share this and more with you, dear reader, but you must be patient. Well, before I sold my 20" I backed up my entire computer using none other than Apple's very own Time Machine. However, this is where I failed, and this is where my story takes a sad and bitter turn. With my 20" sold and gone, I purchased a 21" from the local classifieds. Oh what a beautiful machine! I eagerly migrated everything over from my backup, and for awhile it seemed I was in technological bliss. Everything was there, my music, my movies, my applications, my photos...huh?...what's this??? One day my wife was looking through some photos in iPhoto and she met the infamous exclamation point. For those who have never encountered this villain, it shows up when your cached thumbnails fail to link back to the actual pictures. I had met this adversary before, and had defeated him. This time however, his villainous plot was far darker than I could have imagined. When my wife showed me, I thought I would be her knight and shining armor and banish the dark exclamation point forever. I opened up the contents of the iPhoto library, and to my shock and dismay, many (actually most) of the originals were gone. I searched for invisible (hidden) files, but still they were missing. How could this be? It seems that Time Machine is the true villain and the exclamation point is only one of its henchmen. I have searched the web for hours, nay even days for help. I have searched my computer to its very frameworks, all to no avail. They are gone...forever. In desperation I called the technical support of my favorite company. Yes, I called Apple. Off the record I was told that Time Machine cannot be trusted for such important things. I was further advised that in the future I actually need to manually copy over my important files such as movies, music, documents, and yes, photos. It seems shameful that a program who's entire purpose is to safeguard your precious data, cannot successfully complete its reason for being. I have long abandoned this failure of a program, and I am now quite happy with Carbon Copy Cloner. But this does not bring back my precious photos. These are irreplaceable. They are those precious times with my wife, my two precious children, and my relatives. I have been told that this is hopeless, that all is lost. Yet, I will not give up. I have come to terms with the fact that the full quality pictures are lost. But I hold out hope that I would be able to somehow get the pictures back (even if they be lower quality) through the cached thumbnails. I have tried taking screenshots, but they are so low quality (only 72dpi). I had seen people use a very high resolution digital camera and take photos of printed pictures, instead of scanning them in, so I thought this might work. The pictures are just too blurry when I take them of the screen, using a 8MegaPixel Sony camera. I have truly reached the end of my capabilities.
    I send this plea out to all who have a heart, that they will try to help me come up with a viable solution. My wife gets tears in her eyes every time we talk of them possibly never coming back. You will be my hero, and hers if you can come up with some way of using those cached files. I am very willing to listen to suggestions. PLEASE HELP ME.

    Open your iPhoto library with the Finder like this:
    Click to view full size
    Next open the folder named "Masters" and see if the subfolder there contain your image file. If they do, close the library package, make a copy and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
    1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
    2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in the User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
    3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
    NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
    Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1, #2 and #6.
    Click to view full size
    Fix #3
    Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
    Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
    1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
    2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
    3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
    4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    5 - Click on the Create button.
    Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
    If the subfolders in the Masters folder do not contain your photos you'll either need to have a backup copy of the library that contains the files or use a file recovery application like SubrosaSoft FileSalvage to try to recover them.
    In the future it's best to use paragraphs in your post to separate information and make it easier to read. Like Terence I gave up on line 3 and this response is based on what I think happened.

  • All Changes To Images Lost

    Hello,
    I am very disappointed, as I spent a considerable time working on retouching an image this morning.
    I was finishing up the work with the burn tool and wanted to compare the image using the history palette.
    When I clicked the top thumbnail, the original image appeared, but then I hit 'undo' to see the latest version, the file would not revert back!
    Even using 'multiple undo' did not work - the file was switching only between the burn tool and the unaltered image.
    I have never seen this happen before.
    I saved the image as I was working on it numerous times, but I could not get back to my finished version.
    How can this happen?
    Could it be it reverted back through a series of keybouard shortcuts I didn't know I performed?
    Unfortunately, I closed the image, so all chance of getting back the work I performed is lost.
    The file imports as it was originally.
    I am using CS3 with XP.
    Any help would be appreciated...

    Oops! The S and the Z are a tad close together on most keyboards.
    I also agree with the incremented Save_As, as I go along. Though PS is a very stable program, one learns to do both Save and Save_As, when doing video editing - greater likelihood of a crash taking a bunch of editing with it.
    I also feel that Snapshots are an underused feature. Maybe a flashing arrow saying "Use Me More!"
    I feel for you, and wish that there was some little secret on recovering, but do not know of one. I'd recommend having a glass of wine, and taking a deep breath. You know what you did pretty much, so recreating it should not be THAT hard - just time consuming. Things usually go faster the second time around, as there will likely be less experimentation.
    Wait, what are you doing with that hammer? Get away from the keyboard and drop the hammer!!!!!
    Maybe not the same thing, but most of us have made a bad keystroke, or similar, and cursed a blue streak for an hour.
    Sorry, but we understand,
    Hunt

  • After Fixing Update Images lost to unsupported format

    Like everyone, I had Aperture go buggard after update.  Don't even get me started on that mishap.  Several library fixes later to no avail, deleted Aperture and downloaded from App Store.  One more library fix and Apeture opens once again.  However, I now have a listing of recovered projects that report that the photo is an "unsupported image format".  Little over 200 photos effected.  I tried to reprocess but no help.  I downloaded backup from offsite but still shows same message.  I moved backup to lightroom which opens files and displays image but cannot edit.  I cannot think of a bigger screw up since I started using Apple.  I have a call in to Apple scheduled for Sat, but was hoping to get some useful information before that in an attempt t save my photos.

    Are all your Sony 850 and a nex 5n  images unsupported, or only the 200 "lost & found images" and other sony raw files are ok? Are you able to open Sony images at all?
    Can you tell by the filenames, if the unsupported images are duplicates of images that are o.k.?
    After a rebuild Aperture shows all stray images, that are not connected to current versions in a kind of Lost&Found folder - usually these are redundant images that you can delete and forget (after making a backup of them just in case). Look at the dates and filenames and check, if you have good versions of them.

  • Converting awt to JAI image - please help!

    My application needs to be able to create a JAI image and apply dither to it.
    I got this working by using the fileload operator in JAI to load the image and convert it to a planar image but when I try to use the awtImage operator to convert the images to planar images it doesn't work.
    I really don't understand why this is. The two methods are pratically identical.
    This is the method that works and the error diffusion method
    public void setDitherOp(String op, String picName,KernelJAI typeDither)
                          //operation name, parameter block
        srcImg = JAI.create("fileload", "Pics/"+picName);
        dataType = srcImg.getSampleModel().getDataType();
                  //contains parameters to be used in dither operation
        pb = new ParameterBlock();
        pb.addSource(srcImg);
        layout = new ImageLayout();
        if(op=="ordered")
          orderedDither();
        else if(op=="error")
          errorDiffDither(typeDither);
    public void errorDiffDither(KernelJAI typeDither)
          if(srcImg.getNumBands()==1)   //source image has one color band
            LookupTableJAI lut =new LookupTableJAI(new byte[] {(byte)0x00, (byte)0xff});
            pb.add(lut);
            pb.add(typeDither);
            byte[] map = new byte[] {(byte)0x00, (byte)0xff};
            ColorModel cm = new IndexColorModel(1, 2, map, map, map);
            layout.setColorModel(cm);
          else if(srcImg.getNumBands()==3)  //source image has three color bands
            pb.add(ColorCube.BYTE_496);  //add color cube to parameter block
            pb.add(typeDither);          //add error filter kernel
            System.out.println("error diffusion num bands is: "+srcImg.getNumBands());
          RenderingHints rhints = new RenderingHints(JAI.KEY_IMAGE_LAYOUT, layout);
          ditheredImage = JAI.create("errordiffusion", pb, rhints);
          if(ditheredImage==null)System.out.println("Dithered image is NULL");
    This is the one that doesn't!
    public void setDitherOp(String op, Image frameImage,KernelJAI typeDither)
        srcImg = JAI.create("AWTImage", frameImage);
        dataType = srcImg.getSampleModel().getDataType();
                  //contains parameters to be used in dither operation
        pb = new ParameterBlock();
        pb.addSource(srcImg);
        if(srcImg==null)System.out.println("src image null in set dither op");
        /*if(srcImg!=null)
            ditheredImage = JAI.create("Invert", pb);
        layout = new ImageLayout();
        if(op=="ordered")
          orderedDither();
        else if(op=="error")
          errorDiffDither(typeDither);
    public PlanarImage getDitheredImage()
        return ditheredImage;
      }The other really odd thing in the method that uses the awtImage operator is this:
    if the code to invert the colours is executed it works fine. This must mean that it is creating the planar image from the awt image? I really don't see what the problem could be in that case because it uses the same error diffusion method after that.
    Please help me with this - its part of a project thats due up in a few days and I really need to get this part working as soon as possible.
    CurtinR

    Hi morgair,
    Thank you so much for answering!!
    You're right - the FileLoad and awtImage operators return different types of objects.
    FileLoad returns a RenderedImage
    JAI.create("fileload", "Pics/"+picName);awtImage returns a PlanarImage. The sample model and color model are set according to the AWT image data.
    srcImg = (PlanarImage)JAI.create("AWTImage", pbAwtOp);Also the error diffusion operation takes a renderedImage as a parameter. It says in the programming guide that the source image and the color map must have the same data type and number of bands. (That would explain why the method using fileLoad worked!)
    How do I change the Planar image to a rendered imaage or specify the sample model and colour model of srcImg. I've been trying to do this but am going round in circles - there are descrepancies between the programmers guide and the API and I'm lost..
    Any suggestions really really appreciated..

  • Aperture 3.4.3: Referenced images lost in time machine restore but previews remain

    Dear Aperture Community,
    I recently purchased a new iMac and used a time machine backup of my old iMac to move my files over to the new Mac. All seemed to work well, and I have been using my new iMac happily for a couple of weeks.
    I have Aperture 3.4.3 with about 40,000 photos in my database.
    However, I just noticed that a small handful of semi-recent photos (~100) have a badge showing that "The referenced image’s master has not been found" (the yellow triangle arrow badge). I tried "Locate Reference Files" for all photos to redirect to the new hard drive name, but that failed to locate the ~100 missing images. I tried to inspect the Aperture library by Control-clicking on the Aperture library and choosing Show Package Contents - indeed the ~100 images were not there, but the ~40k other images were.
    I can imagine that this issue may or may not be due to Time Machine, but I certainly never deleted any images. I always import my photos directly into Aperture.
    How can my thumbnails and high resolution previews of the 100 images still be visible in Aperture, and yet the masters be lost?
    I'd like to recover the images. Worst case, I will use Grab to capture the previews, which are of course much lower resolution than the originals, but at least I'll have something...
    Thanks for your help!

    thanks for the reply Frank:
    Masters.  I do not know.  I left it as the default.  I assume that means managed?
    Error message was the LONG error code with the jist of it being related to what sounds like a PLUGIN error. I don't have the EXACT coding right now as I am not home.  I've googled the code +/- other stuff on it and according to discussions here and elsewhere (albeit all archived), it looks like it was related to my plugins.
    as far as the restore is concerned, I am POSITIVE that the restored library was the NEW library not the original.  But keep in mind, Time Machine only lets me restore the backup to the exact place where the file was before.  I am just worried that somehow Time Machine backup hosed my Aperture library somewhere along the way.  This is why I was wondering if there is something else I need to restore with my time machine backup besides the library file/database itself?
    Thanks for the quick reply.

  • Image lost in action, workaround anyone?

    Hi,
    I know this is a double post but I really want an answer to this so that I can move on.
    BufferedImage  BufImage = new Robot().createScreenCapture(screenRect);
                        int[] pixels = new int[1680*1050];
                   PixelGrabber pg = new PixelGrabber(BufImage, 0,0,1680, 1050, pixels, 0, 1680);
                   image = frm.createImage(new MemoryImageSource(1680,1050,pixels,0,1680));With this code the Image image doesn't go null but it can't be drawn to a JPanel in my test.
    But the same image (BufImage) can with this:
                            BufferedImage  BufImage = new Robot().createScreenCapture(screenRect);
                   image = (Image) BufImage;In the first example the image get lost somewhere, but why? I am extracting the pixel correctly, aren't I? I need to use both some kind of PixelGrabber and then I need to create an Image of the result.
    Can anyone help me clear this out, I'd really need to extract those pixel for an application.
    //Considerate

    I found the problem, I was creating the image with the wrong JComponent.
    Replacing the row
    image = frm.createImage(new MemoryImageSource(1680,1050,pixels,0,1680));with
    image = pan.createImage(new MemoryImageSource(1680,1050,pixels,0,1680));where pan is a JPanel instead of using the JFrame.
    Sorry for taking your time, and thanks to everyone who viewed this and gave time to try to figure it out.

  • Contents of disk-image lost (mounted from iDisk)

    I've stored an encrypted disk-image on my iDisk and mounted it directly from the network-drive by double-clicking the sparseimage-file. Then I worked directly with the files on that mounted volume. I neither copied the disk-image nor any of the files to a local drive.
    Suddenly my MacBook Pro freezed and I have to reboot it. When I mounted the disk-image again, I discovered, that nothing of my work has been saved. I've created a lot of new files and regularily saved changes by storing them on the mounted volume. But it seems, that this changes have never been transferred to my iDisk. Two days of work got lost!
    My question: is there any local copy of a mounted disk-image, where I can recover the lost files?
    At what time an encrypted disk-image got synced? Only when dismounting it?
    I'm very disappointed if mounted network-drives are that unsecure and fragile.
    Thanks for any help,
    makeCents

    I'm thinking it would only be saved on closing/dismounting it., local Disk Images would be that way too.
    I can't believe virtual disks work that way. The documentation of disk-images tells that you can open, read, and write files on disk-images like on normal drives. Writing should be a transaction, that means the data should be securely saved or an error message has to be raised if not.
    It can't be, that a successful write transaction isn't really stored. Even on network drives this has to be secured. That's basic operating system stuff.

  • Frist day with Mac and i'm lost help me Mr. Ralph Johns

    Hi ...
    i have problem with the iChat ..!!
    every time i log in, it's disconnected after few minute
    and i got this message
    "iChat lost the connection to the Mac.com account"
    the server connection was unexpectedly lost.
    thank you for helping me

    Hi,
    Your Specs only tell us which Mac you have.
    Can you tell us which OS version and which iChat version you have ?
    Go to the Apple icon and About this Mac for the OS version.
    Go to the iChat Menu and About iChat for the iChat Version.
    In System Preferences > Security (Presuming either OS 10.5.x or 10.6.x), is the Firewall On ? (Set to Allow Essentials or Allow Specific Apps in Leopard (10.5.x))
    In Snow Leopard (10.6.x) in the Advance Button is Allow Signed apps active
    If Allow Specific App s or allow Signed apps is used is iChat in the list ?
    In Either OS version is Stealth active ? This should not stop you logging in but mat cause other problems.
    Is this Apple ID used with MobileMe and Back to my Mac ?
    If so can you turn that Off for a moment in System Preferences > MobileMe
    AS a Mac/Apple ID is the password longer than 16 characters ?
    Apple allow longer passwords than this but the AIM server that iChat logs in to does not.
