Images lost in Address Book!

Address Book crashed this evening and the .previous file didn't work. Luckily last month I copied the Address Book Folder in the App support folder in my user folder -- so I transferred it over. My contacts and groups are back BUT the images on the vcards are GONE! The folder for images is still in Address Book>App Support> library>user (all 228 images!) but they're not showing up in Address Book.
Help!
Thanks!

Just something to try. Have you gone to Disk Utility and repaired permissions after doing the update? If not, go ahead and try it.

Steve M.

    OUCH !
Can you identify how you upgraded - for example did you erase your drive during the install?
Did you create any kind of a backup before doing the upgrade (Always recommended)?
Did you have Time Machine running on the old OS prior to the upgrade?
Did you at any time (or has someone else) sync'd your contacts with a Google account?

If you have a Mac, it's pretty easy. But you don't (should I make a pitch for you to get a MacBook Pro in the future)?
This should help you out to sync it back to several non-Apple software:

did a recent update through itunes and lost my address book contacts on my iphone

Aren't you using your phone as recommended and synching your contacts with your computer (Address Book, Outlook) or a cloud service?  Just synch them back.
If you're not using your phone as recommended then your contacts are likely gone.  Lesson learned.

Did you create these notes in the iPad notes App ... I assume?
This support article will explain how you can restore from a backup - which is what you have to do in order to have any chance of recovering your note.
How to backup and restore from a backup
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
But you have to remember, that you will lose any of the notes that you have taken since the date of the last backup. If you synced your iPad last week, then you will lose a whole week of current notes - or whatever notes you have created since your last backup. When you restore from a backup - you restore everything in that backup onto the iPad - that was on the iPad on the time and date of the backup.
If you backup every day, then all of your notes should be recoverable from the backup - except for any notes that you took since you last backed up. There is no foolproof way to recover everything once you start taking more notes or creating new documents or whatever that you do in an app unless you are syncing those notes with iCloud and backing up all of the time or unless the app is set to sync with iCloud as you work on the files - like in Pages, Numbers or Keynote - Apple's iWorks apps.
If you decide to restore from an iTunes backup you should turn off at sync before you try restoring because iTunes will want to backup your iPad right away when you plug it in and you will lose your old or last backup.

  • Lost most address book entries after upgrading to S.L.

    Hi Everyone,
I upgraded my machine from Tiger to Snow Leopard and consequently lost most of the addresses in my address book. I had about 300 or so; now I have 68. This is particularly bad timing since we're in the holidays...
I have a backed up version of the address book (on an external disk that still has the backup of my old system), but I'm not able to open it in Snow Leopard. Suggestions? This is quite frustrating.

The metadata folder has the same number of items as the current address book (68). The other contents of the .../application support/address book file are:
    ABPerson.skIndexInverted
    ABSubscribedPerson.skIndexInverted
    AddressBook-v22.abcddb
    AddressBook.data
    AddressBook.data.previous
    Configuration.plist
    Images folder
    lastImport.plist
    MailRecents-v4.abcdmr
    Metadata folder
Hmmm... Is the "AddressBook.data.previous" relevant here?
    Thanks for your help.

  • I lost my address book when I installed Mountain Lion and have not been able to recover it.  WHen I type in a name in an email the address shows up, so I know it is in there.  How can I restore my address book?

I don't know how to do this.  I typed the question in the bar above, but apparently need to type it again here.  I lost my entire address book when I installed Mountain Lion and have been unable to recover it.  I know the information is in there as when I type in someone's name in an email the address always shows up right away.  How can I find the information for my contacts and restore my address book? Do I need to go to the Apple Store that is 2 hours away and have an expert help me or can I find out how to do it online for free myself?

The auto-complete in Mail addresses comes from two sources: (1) The "Previous Recipients" list, which can be viewed via Mail > Window > Previous Recipients. (2) Your Address Book (now called "Contacts").
If you did in fact lose your Address Book - are you sure you don't have "Contacts" in your Applications Folder? - It sounds like you are getting addresses from source (1).  If you did in fact lose your  Address Book (now called "Contacts" !!), you will have to restore it from a backup.

  • Lost all Address Book entries

All of a sudden I've lost all my Address Book entries. There's nothing there. I use iBackup onto .Mac, but for some reason I can't get it to restore. It keeps saying that backup fails.
    Please help. Big problem.

You had no backup before upgrading to Snow Leopard, and you didn't make a backup of your Address Book?
Upgrading OS X is not something that would cause that data to disappear, so that would seem to suggest that something else is at work, such as human error. Regardless, if you're running 10.6.3 as your profile states, you should run Software Update and get 10.6.8, as it fixes a number of issues.
You can try to recover your Address Book contacts like this:
    1. Quit Address Book if it's running.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
    3. Move the AddressBook.data file to your Desktop or to the Trash. Then, in that same folder, make a duplicate of the AddressBook.data.previous file and rename one copy simply to AddressBook.data and launch the Address Book application. If you're lucky, your data is there. If not, well that highlights the reason for making backups.

  • 100,000+ "image" files in Address Book's home Library folder

I was backing up my home folder and noticed that the directory ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Images had 105,619 files taking up over 800 MB of space. I was wondering if anyone else has had this "problem" (I'm not sure what to call it...)

    Hi
Sorry about the delay in replying to your last message, but I've had a print deadline to meet, which always puts everything else on hold.
I've opened a few of the .abcdp files with Text Edit and the information is in there, buried among loads of code, so many thanks for telling me that. I've beamed the address book from my other half's Palm (which used to be mine) over to mine, so I should have most of the current contacts which I hope I can transfer onto the iMac. The missing ones, distant members of my family for instance, I will have to search for in the .abcdp files and enter manually into AB (always remembering to take a backup regularly!).
Unfortunately I don't know anyone with a Mac running Leopard, in fact I only know one other person with a Mac. We freed ourselves from the thralldom of the PC only three years ago and are still the odd ones out with colleagues and friends. Having the Macs has made using a computer enjoyable for the first time in 25 years, ever since we bought a Commodore 700 and I began the daily struggle with various pieces of user-hostile software.
Many thanks for helping me out. I've put Snow Leopard at the top of my shopping list by the way.
    Regards
    Susan

  • Lost my address book entries and current mail program.

I recently installed Leopard on my G-4 and was not satisfied with it so I attempted to downgrade back to Tiger. In order to do this I had to reinstall Panther which I did, only I lost all my user settings, etc., even though I had checked the box to save. When my desktop appeared, my address book and mail program was empty. I backed up my mail program but have been unable to access my mail from 2007, only up to 2006. I went to Previous Systems, but again, only up to 2006. I have been all over my hard drive looking for my old address book but haven't found anything. Would my old address book still be there and if so, where? And how can I access my mail from 2007, even on the program that is backed up?
Any help on these two topics is greatly appreciated.

    Hello Allan -
Your help on a previous post was great re: my wanting to know how to delete the Address Book contents so I can re-import an updated list form my office Outlook, via my yahho/sbcglobal import.
Well - here is an interesting quandary:
I have successfully exported my yahoo address book/contacts as a .vcf file Yet - once I have expunged the prior Address Book data and want to now import the NEW Yahoo data to rebuild the database it only takes (enters) the phone numbers and does NOT import ANY of the address information. I am positive I did this once since our original exchange and everything transferred just fine, but now….?!
What I cannot determine is where the fault may be: does the export NOT include the addresses (in which case I am doing something fundamentally stupid wit the export) or the vcf cards are complete, but Address Book is not “seeing” anything other than the phone #s and e-mail addresses.
    Any thoughts?
    Dazed and confused

  • I just lost my address book folders all except one. Any help available?

I was inputting information into an address in my address folder. I sent and email to this person and went back to the address book and Only one folder was available. Where did my other folders go? Can I get them back? I had a lot of information in my address book and I'll be lost without it.

If you have mobile me it's has a glitch that deletes your contacts. uggh. However if you have a back up you can get them back. Here is what Apple told me and it worked. 1. turn off the internet on your computer. go to your time machine icon and go back into time - a time in which you had the contacts (a day ago, a week etc). go the house on the left that has your username. go to application support and grab your address book and drag it to the desktop. that makes a copy of your address book. Close time machine.
    2. Open your hard drive (up in the right corner of your screen) go to username (little house on the left)find Application support and drag the address book on your desktop to the application support file. IMPORTANT: CHECK TO MAKE SURE ON YOUR COMPUTERS THAT YOUR CONTACTS ARE THERE. IF NOT, STOP. CONTACT APPLE.
    3. go to System Preferences. Turn on the internet
go to mobile me. Sync contacts with mobile me - MANUALLY - REALLY IMPORTANT: you want to make sure that you are syncing from the computer to mobile me (COMPUTER SCREEN TO THE CLOUD). Then hit replace. IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE YOUR CONTACTS ARE NOW VISIBLE ON YOUR MOBILE ME CONTACTS BUTTON BEFORE PROCEEDING
    4. On your iphone go to settings. go to mail-calendars etc go to mobile me account and turn off contacts. It will ask you if you want to delete the info on the iphone and the answer is yes (don't be scared you are replacing with the info on your computer that you just updated). It will say something like turning off contacts. Wait a few moments, like 5. Turn the contact back on.
    That should do it.
