Images moved by LR4

I have my images saved to folders based on image content.  I have a folder that I have worked with in LR3. After intalling LR4, I imported the images in that folder into LR4.  I could see and work on these images, however the images have been moved to new folders based on the original image exposure date.
When I attempt to view these images in LR3, they are missing from the original folder.  Using a back up I was able to copy the images back into the original folder where they are visble in LR3.  The moved images are still visible in LR4, but at the location they were moved to.  What happened?

At a guess, when you imported into LR4b you used the "Move" import option, and in the Destination panel you had one of the "Organise by Date" options selected.
The advice given by Adobe and others is to work on a copy of your LR3 images.....not the originals.

  • CS6 creates tiled image when moving from LR4 and HDR Effex Pro

Just recently I've had a problem with CS6 where it creates a partial (tiled) image when "Edit In" from LR4 and when saving back to CS6 from HDR Effex Pro. THe image may have one or several retangles which may be black, white, or part of the image that's in the wrong place if that makes any sense. All software is running with current updates. I've had the software about 6 months and never incurred this problem until the last week. Help!

I've run through several scenarios and find that it's always in CS6 that I have the problem. I opened a file in all modules of Nik as well as OnOne's Perfect Photo Suite. When I go back (save) to CS6 there is always a problem. When I save in CS6 and then open up in LR the image is fine. So the file must not be corrupt, it just doesn't present it properly in CS6. The GPU driver appears to be up to date....last update was in 2011 and I've had this computer since late 2012.

  • Why is the image moving when I print on 300gsm card, but is fine on 160gsm paper?

    Hello,
I am printing a double sided invitation for a customer. I am not sure what it was originally set in as I have only been given the pdf up to now. The invite has a thin black line around the writing.
I am trying to put a proof together so they can see it on the colour they've chosen, when I cut it out (using their crop marks) on 160gsm everything lines up nicely, however, when I cut it out from 300gsm I end up cutting either the top or the bottom off as the image has moved. I am sure this is down to the weight of the card but how do I (or the customer) counteract this and what is the term for the issue? (If there is one)
    Thanks
    Louise

Can you duplex the 300 gsm card inside the machine?
Or are you forced to print one side and then run the cardstock through the machine 2nd time to print the other side?
Double sided heavier cardstock is more problematic than paper and this issue is a common occurence.
Are you using the bypass tray or (if your printer allows it from a drawer?. usually there are limits to the stocks that can be run from drawers on smaller, less expensive machines)
It may help if you make sure the correct media type/weight  and  drawer/bypass tray is selected correctly in your print dialog/print setup.
There may be more than 1 place to select these parameters; check them all
Also check the media/weight setting on the printer itself for the bypass or drawer you are using.
There may be no real solution to achieving perfect registration from front to back on all type of media in your machine.
    Good Luck!
Just realized you are printing from PDF. Make sure that Actual Size in selected each time in the print dialog when printing both sides. sometimes it defaults to Fit when you aren't paying attention and this can cause problems.
You wrote: The invite has a thin black line around the writing.
Do you mean they placed a stroked box around the edge of the invitation? This is a no-no. The crop marks should be adequate. A thin stroked box at the trim size will be an invitation to disaster when cutting a stack of printed items, even single sided would be hell, Double sided, forget it. Have them remove the box and just have crop marks. When cutting you will obviously cut off some of the marks which makes it difficult to determine the later cuts.  This is when you get out a ruler to determine the settings you need to make for these cuts using your cutter.

  • Images exported to LR4 from Elements and then re-exported back to LR4 do not show up there

I have just upgraded from elements 6 and LR3 to Elements 11 and LR4.  I export from LR4 to Elements, adjust the image and 'save' as psd.  In LR3 the saved psd would be visible alongside the original image.  That doesn't happen now....which is a real pain.  What can I do to make it happen, please.

One possibility is that you accidentally opened a new/different catalog.
Look at File->Open Recent and open the catalogs shown there and see if your photos appear

  • Sliced images moving in DW

    Hi all,
I am pretty new to development in DW and I have a question that I hope I am putting in the right place.
I have already sliced up the template and imported them into dreamweaver. However, when I am creating a contact us page and input the table for the form, the website becomes distorted. I believe it may be the size of the form itself causing the issue but no matter how much I lower the width in DW it still looks distorted.
Does anyone have any idea how I can stop the sliced images from moving in DW once I import them?
    Thanks in advance
    andersonr09

I can take a look, but I don't know of any off the top of my head.  Basically you could start that tutorial at the following:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dw_fw_css_pt1.html#articlecontentAdobe_nu mberedheader_4
Creating slices in Photoshop is very similar except that where Fireworks has the box where it says the "Type: Image; JPEG", Photoshop will do that in the Save for Web Dialog.  But with that said, Parts 2 & 3 are where it leaves the Fireworks plane and goes in depth with how to structure HTML and CSS in Dreamweaver which is the preferred method.  The Save For Web where Photoshop generates HTML is more for prototyping.  What that means is basically just showing someone an image of what the web page will look like without doing much coding so that if design changes need to be made, they are done before the content gets entered in as HTML since things could get messy at that point.

  • 17,000 images moved to trash

While doing a routine update to Nik software I closed Aperture, and when I re-opened it all my 17,000 images were in Aperture Trash.  Aperture Help says to control click on trash image and select 'put back'.  But there is no 'put back' to select and anyway I wont do it 17000 times.  I am backed up fortunately, but would like to figure out what happened and if there is a quick way to fix it.
    Any thoughts?

I have the same problem. I just opened Aperture and all photos were moved to the trash. I have tried to rebuild library to no avail. I can indeed 'put back' everything, but I also had many thousands of intentionally deleted photos in there already. It's been a long time apparently since I emptied the trash. I can't distinguish between what was correctly deleted and falsely deleted by a bug. Any suggestions?

  • Raw image support from LR4.3 to CS4

I upgraded to LR4.3 and CS4.  When I open a raw image in CS4 from LR4.3, the image quality is horrible.  A message appeared that I need camera raw plugin 7.3, however, this is not available for CS4.  Is there a solution to this problem or do I need to upgrade to CS6?

You updated but I'll post the following for anyone else who has the same question in future.
LR 4.3 is equivalent to Camera Raw 7.3. If LR and Ps aren't communicating well, you can export an image file from LR then open that into Ps. For 16-bit, choose TIFF with ZIP compression unless you don't mind an enormous file. 16-bit PSD is another option but its Background layer has no compression and will be the same huge size as an uncompressed TIFF.

  • Illustrator CS4: Images moving around artboard after closing and reopening

I'm working in Illustrator CS4 and images that I've embedded into the artwork are moving when I save, close and reopen.
All the embedded images seem to shift downwards by the same amount but it's getting pretty annoying to have to reposition everything when I restart working on a file.
Is this a known problem/bug or just something I'm getting?
Is uninstalling and reinstalling the only solution?
Apologies if this has already been covered in another thread
    Thanks

Funny someone reported something similar that when they recolored symbol instance and accepted the edit the symbol and al like symbols moved down and slightly to the right as well of course being recolored.
But I have never seen this myself. Not in Illustrator.

  • Artefacts on 'push' effect between still image & moving image

I'm trying to use a horizontal 'push' effect (like an old fashioned slide show) to introduce scanned images into a timeline (DVCProHD 1080i) but when I look at the effect transition frame by frame there's a double image as though one half of the picture is out of sync with the other. The effect works fine if I use it between two moving shots, it just crops up when going between stills (JPEGs) and moving footage. Does anyone have a solution to this please?

And, you could simply keyframe the movement.

  • Div background images moving in template

I am using a "stock" css layout (from Dreamweaver). I have a

I make the page a template the image placed in the div disappears.
I checked the code, and the .jpg is still listed. Any ideas or

  • Xmp sidecars for images moved to dvd

I have only one catalog with a folder where I put all my images (organized in sub folders). In the catalog settings / metadata tab I marked the option "automatically write changes into xmp". When I change any parameter for the image in the develop module, automatically a XMP is created/updated in the same folder where the image is located.
From times to times I move some folders to DVDs for archiving and to free HDD space. When I do that, I simply record the entire folder (including RAWs, JPGs, PSDs, XMPs, etc) to a DVD-R and delete it from the HDD. Then I import it (from current location, creating previews) back to Lightroom.
I'm happy with this system and it's working ok, except for the following:
I had modified some developing parameters for the DVD's images (after they were recorded and deleted and reloaded from the DVD) but the .xmp files are not updated, since they are read-only now. I want to export the modifications I made after the archiving to refresh the DVD's XMPs with the new ones, but I don't know how. I tried to export as catalog, but no .xmp files are created this way.
The question is: How to export/backup updated XMPs for the read-only media files?
    Any idea?
    thanks
    [windows xp / lightroom 1.3.1]

"unless you need to open the files from Bridge or directly in Photoshop."
Yes, I want to have the XMP settings readily available so I can use the files in other computer(s) that has only Photoshop (not Lightroom).
The answer on flickr says: "move the image+xmp back into your working environment, make your changes and then move to another dvd-r and re-import next time you need to free space"
Well, I already did the changes for the files that *are* on DVD-r. The changes are stored in the Lightroom catalog and I don't want to lose them. I just can't find a way to export them other than exporting as catalog and that way I can't use the updated settings on the other computer I have. Plus I don't like to waste disk space with a big catalog file if the XMPs are so small and do what I want.

  • Disk image moved between machines--shouldn't this work?

Hello, I am having a problem making a functional DVD. Here's the scenario:
I have a MacBook Pro (2009) with iMovie '09 installed, and I have a project I want to burn. The optical drive is broken, and the smart folks at Apple decided that they'd make it impossible for my shiny new external superdrive to work with my MacBook Pro. BUT, I also have a MacBook Air 2012 which can use the superdrive just fine. I can't transfer the iMovie project between machines--iMovie '11 has some terrible bugs when you try to import still photographs. So my solution was this:
--on the MBP, export the movie from iMovie as a quicktime .mov,
--open the .mov in iDVD (after experimentation, this gives MUCH better results than choosing "export to iDVD" in iMovie)
--in iDVD, save as a disk image
--copy the .img file (using a thumb drive) to the MBA
--Use Disk Utility on the MBA to burn the disk image just transferred onto a DVD using the external superdrive
Could someone tell me where this elaborate chain is likely to go wrong? The first disc I tried creating like this could be played on a computer using VLC (and the menu was operational, it wasn't just reading the video file), but it didn't work on either of the regular DVD players I tried.
Any help troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated. Here are the details of all the settings:iMovie 09 -> export using quicktime -> file type .mov -> compression type H.264, Frame rate current, Key frames automatic, compressor quality Best, encoding Best Quality, Data Rate automatic. In iDVD Preferences I chose NTSC (I'm in North America), encoding Professional Quality, and the correct DVD type (dual layer). In Disk Utility on the MBP I just dragged the transferred .img file into the left-hand pane, selected it and hit Burn.
When I transferred the .img file, that was all I transferred between machines.
    Thank you!

the .img file was only ~700 MB (it's a short film). Should it have worked, in this case?
    Don't know - May be ?
How can I find out whether it (the ext Hard Disk) is formatted as Mac OS extended?
    • Select it on DeskTop/Finder (one Click)
    • then go to File and down to Show Info - or - [cmd+I]
    • read formatted as : nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
And lastly I read elsewhere that DVD-R would be more reliable than DVD+R.
DVD+R are a more modern format and by so more reliable - BUT OLD DVD-Players can not read them so I chose them due to not knowing what player it will be played on.
And I think that if the DVD was able to be read on another computer, then it could not have had burn errors right?
No - but different devices has better or worse Error Correcting Functions - so keeping the amount of Burn Errors dowm = More devices can play them.
    Good Luck.
    Yours Bengt W
