Images of or from websites autosaving to iPhoto

How can we stop webpages being saved as images to my gf's iPhoto library? They are stored as an Event entitled "Webpage Previews" in Photos which we did not create. Another event is called "Mail Downloads". Yet another is "Images" another "file" and even one called "Cache" which also appears in the sidebar with the label "Hold". They all contain at least one image, some many dozens.
It is almost as if some app operates in the background and collects the images of every website she visits, as well as the images from each website she visits or attachments she receives by email. This is not supposed to happen.
The MacBook runs Leopard 10.5.7 with iPhoto 08 v7.0 as the main photo app. She also has the Canon software for her Canon Ixus 95iS compact on board. Her Safari is v 4.02.
iPhoto 08 was originally running on Tiger, but after we upgraded to Leopard using a clean install and installed iLife 08 after Leopard, she dragged the iPhoto library from the Carbon Copy CLone backup of Tiger including the iPhoto 08 Library previously installed. This library had been copied using Carbon Copy Cloner onto an Ext HDD from where it was dragged back onto the MacBook after a clean install (I didn't do that job, it was done by a long term Apple expert).
Any ideas what is happening? Even more important, how can we make it stop?
TIA

These are clearly the folders that have the non-deletable files in. If we drag these folders from their location to the Library so they (hopefully) can be deleted using the Safari Reset command, will this muck up the iPhoto database indexing?
Move those and you will trash your Library.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
I’m not sure how the link you provide has anything to do with the core issue here - which is why iPhoto should import these images in the first place. Afters all, I’m using Safari 4 and don’t have this issue.
To the issue of trashing the images:
To trash an Image you must be in the Library - either Events or Photos view and drag an image to the iPhoto trash, and empty it. If you’re in an album, dragging a pic to the trash will simply remove it from the Album.
Can you confirm that how you’ve been trashing images?

  • MX892 printer set up over wifi network. Images I print from website or PDF are not aligned

Every time I try to print, the images come in misaligned blocks.  Colors appear correct but the images and test is blurry and appears to be printed over.  I tried all the maintenance options to no avail.

    Hi ejm2119,
Based on your examples and coupled with the fact that you are experiencing grinding noises, I suspect that there is a hardware issue with the printer.  I would recommend using the Contact Us link to get in touch with our live support staff who can provide available service options.

  • I have nearly 9,000 Images on my I Mac and I wish to move them over to a 2TB external  hard drive and still be able to access them from Aperture and or iPhoto?

I have nearly 9,000 Images on my I Mac and I wish to move them over to a 2TB external  hard drive and still be able to access them from Aperture and or iPhoto. How is the best way of doing this?

Here is how to do it with iPhoto:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2506
As for Aperture, you'll need to do a search on the support website yourself because the result is a download so I couldn't post a link - the instructions are in the user manual. I believe the settings are within Aperture's Preferences.

  • How to view images from Pictures Folder using iPhoto?

Right now when I click an image in the Pictures folder, the image is automatically opened using Preview. I want to view images directly from my Pictures folder, and have them open to iPhoto. Is that possible?
I just want to be able to view/sort my photos by Folders rather than by Events, Titles or Photo dates. I can't seem to get them to sort by folders in iPhoto.

Iphoto is a Photo Database designed to allow you to organise and manipulate you photos without recourse to your files.
It's not an image viewer, it can only work with photos that have been imported to the database.
I just want to be able to view/sort my photos by Folders rather than by Events,
An Event is a folder of images with a fancy icon. You can organize your pics in iPhoto anyway you want, using Albums, folders, keywords and so on. It's far more flexible that using folders in the Finder.
You can opt to organise the files yourself, rather than have iPhoto do it for you, but I don't recommend it.
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. To do this it will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file. It will still create a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
However, you need to be aware of a number of potential pitfalls using this system.
    1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • How can I transfer images from digital camera without iPhoto?

The thing is that I wish to see my camera's card as an external storage device, as it happens when I connect it to my PC, so I can manually choose which to transfer and where.
But when I plug my camera it automatically opens iPhoto. At first,, this was fun, because I didn't even have to load any device drivers. But if you're using pro-camera equipment and manage and photoshop many images, like I do, an application like iPhoto isn't the way to do it.
    Any feedback?
    Thanks

    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Hi Panos,
I started using Image Capture to download all my images and Movie clips. I actually like doing it this way a lot better. My movie clips are downloaded into my Movies folder where I then put them in a dated folder.
My photos are downloaded into my Pictures folder, where I then put them in a dated folder. I import the dated folder into iPhoto. I also keep all dated folders from photo downloads in the Pictures folder till I get enough Movie folders and Photo folders to fill a DVD. I burn them and then delete them from the hard drive.
This way I have the photos in iPhoto and I also have just the photos backed up to DVD.
The Movies I keep on the hard drive in their dated folders until I use all the clips for my iMovie projects for the Year. I then make sure they are all burned to DVD, then I delete those from my hard drive.
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
    Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.

  • How to download RAW images from Canon S100 to iPhoto?

  • Trouble downloading some images from CF card to iPhoto

My iMac was full - no space left on it. I did not know this until I tried to download a 16GB card that was almost full of RAW images from my 50D.
There were approximately 600 images on the card. Around 450 of them downloaded fine to iPhoto. Then I got an error message saying that my hard disk was full, and that I would not be able to download the remaining 150 images until I created room on my computer.
So, I went thru my image files and deleted about 200 photos, figuring that would create plenty of room for the remaining 150 that I still had on the card (the images I deleted were the same file size as the ones I was trying to download, so it should have freed up enough space).
When I tried to download the remaining 150 images, only about 5 or 10 downloaded successfully, then I got the same error message saying that my hard disk was full.
So, I again deleted more images, then tried to download the remaining images. This time, my computer wouldn't accept any of the images. I didn't even get the error message - iPhoto simply froze up when I tried to download the images remaining on the card.
I later deleted a few thousand images - to ensure that there would be plenty of room on my computer for new images. I then downloaded another card with about 600 images on it (from the same 50D). I had no problem downloading all 600+ of the images on this card. However, when I went and put the other card back in the card reader and tried to download those remaining 140 images, iPhoto simply froze up again and I couldn't download any of them.
WHen I put the CF card in my 50D, I can view those 140 images on my LCD screen without any problems. In fact, all of the info is intact for each of the images. But when I try to download to iPhoto, iPhoto freezes up and won't accept them.
I do not use any other photo program, so importing them into something like Lightroom or Aperture is not an option. I am also not interested in paying money to upgrade to a newer version of iPhoto, so I want to keep this within the iPhoto 08 that I currently use.
What I want to know is, does anyone know how I can get these images downloaded into iPhoto? Is there some type of software recovery program that is free, that will work directly with iPhoto?
Any help that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.
+PS: I will be away from my computer for most of the weekend, so if I don't respond to anyone's post promptly, my apologies. I'll review all posts and respond to them when I again have internet access in a couple days.+

    Thank you, Terrance.
I have cleared a ton of space on my hard drive. This is evidenced by the fact that I have recently uploaded about 2,000 photos onto my iPhoto app. Each photo is from a Canon 50D, and is a RAW file, so each image is right around the 20mb sie. These are huge files, and yet I've been able to download a couple thousand recently. Yet I still cannot download the 140+- images from that Compact Flash memory card that gave me trouble previously. It seems to me like somehow iPhoto and that particular card are having trouble "talking to" each other ever since I tried to "force" iPhoto to accept more than it could hold at that time.
Also, you mention using an external hard drive. I shoot only in RAW. When I import a photo into iPhoto, and edit it in iPhoto, iPhoto remembers what the original photo was like before I edited it. So, I can always go back to an image and simply ask iPhoto to revert the image to the original RAW file, and it does so.
My fear with using an external hard drive is that when I export an image from iPhoto to the external, that the external drive won't "remember" what the photo looked like before I edited it. Can I save the actual RAW file to the external, or do I need to export the photos as jPegs? If I can only export a jPeg, then I will lose much of the extremely detailed information that the original RAW image file contains.

I never tried importing from the iPhoto library as referenced images. I wonder if Aperture can access images stored in an iPhoto library package?  Even if it would work, it sounds like a bad thing to do.
You might consider starting over and this time have Aperture manage the images.  That will copy them to the Aperture library, leaving the iPhoto library untouched. This assumes you have sufficient space to make a complete copy of all the images in your iPhoto library plus another copy of each image that Aperture makes as the preview image. You can then back up your iPhoto library (two backup copies, just to be sure) then remove it from your hard drive when you start getting too low on space.  As I write this I don't know where your iPhoto or Aperture libraries are/will be located so I'm assuming you have them on your HD.

  • How can I download images from website with Automator?

    Hi!
I want to ask how can I download images from website with Automator like here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQm7Xr9jY0w&t=85m15s (in 1:25:15).
I want to download these images to my downloads folder. Some things have changed and I can't find exact options as then. When I am trying to make it it shows "The action "Download URLs" was not supplied with the required data."
I am using 2012 late iMac with Mac OSX 9.2 (Mavericks).

There are two apps that I know of - and I would also swear that they come from the same developer, although they've different names. Both have free trials and both cost $40 (but both do 'other' video conversion as well).
One is WonderShare - I bought this one and it works very well for downloading YouTube videos as well as converting just about any file format you can think of.
The other is iSkysoft Video Converter (just noticed that it's now $36).
I tried them both and finally decided on WonderShare. Give them both a trial run and decide if you like either one enough to buy it. I don't know of any 'free' software that will allow you to download and convert YouTube videos, but perhaps someone else will come along and know of something...
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Why can I no longer upload photos from my camera to iPhoto?

When the camera is plugged into the iMac (recently updated to Yosemite), iPhoto recognizes the device but the screen seems to freeze with "Loading..." in the area where the photos usually appear prior to selection for importing.  I opened the Photo Library First Aid which is initialized by opening iPhoto with the Option and Command keys depressed.  I did not run Repair Permissions but did run the other three.  This is the first attempt to load images from my camera, a Canon G3, since upgrading to Yosemite.

No images make it to the screen to capture.  The familiar screen appears recognizing the device with the boxes for Event Name, Import Selected, etc. but there are no images (thumbnails) in the larger area where images usually post.  The box at the top right show "Import 0 Photos".  Just below that in the thumbnail area, "Loading..." appears but there is nothing indicating the machine is processing; no blinking, no turning wheel, zip.  It's not a matter of the image thumbnails making it to the iMac screen yet being unable to do anything from there.  There are simply no images making it from camera to the open "Import" screen.  Thank you, though.
