Images on card reader
Usually I import my photo files (shooted by Sony Cybershoot) through an USB universal card reader into the MBP. Now after last OS upgrade, toghether with Wifi signal dropping, I can not import the photos any more. One error message inform me that the external volume (card reader) has not closed properly (?) and suddenly the finder close up. I can import the same files with a PC with no problems, and this let me think about there’s no damaged files or any trouble with the card reader device.
Any hints?
Thanks
There is a very similar sounding problem reported in another thread, but neither you nor the other poster mentions the brand of the card reader. See here:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2668447
I don't know if the problem is with a particular brand of card reader or not, but that is possible. Can you plug the camera directly into the computer and see if Image Capture (launch Image Capture from the Application folder) lists the camera and will import the images?

Can't Open RAW Images - disconnected card reader - damaged??
The other day, I think I made the mistake of unplugging a Compact Flash card reader of RAW images prematurely. I'm not sure.
I got the warning that says that unplugging can damage the files.
Now, when I try to view the images, it shows that there are RAW images there, but they are greyed in Photoshop. In the browser, they are not greyed out, but they don't open except in Preview and there they just open Preview without showing an actual image.
When I hit Command - I, on an image it shows as Zero Kb.
My question...is there any hope?
Is there anything I can do to salvage these images somehow?
There is a second card which DOES show the image and opens in Preview, BUT when I try to open in Photoshop, the NEF RAW file is s greyed and won't open.
I would REALLY like to save this images if possible. Any hope would be much appreciated.
Thanks a lot.
J.Presumably you have checked to see if the images can be viewed if you put the card back in the Nikon - and tried a USB connection from the camera.
You could try changing the 'Image Capture' (in Applications) Preferences and see if the files are recognised.
There is also 'Graphic Converter' (in Applications) which might be able to get useable files from the camera or the reader - although this old bundled version(4.9) doesn't mention your file format.
If no joy, Lexar have a utility that might help

No consolation I know, but I get that that really comforting "unplugging" message sometimes, even when the reader and CF card with Canon RAW files has been properly dismounted... -
How do I set Elements9 Organizer as my default to upload raw images from computer's sd card reader? It defaults to Lightroom.
The two raw files you've uploaded to dropbox are corrupted so Lightroom and Photoshop are giving you the correct message. At least with these two, the embedded JPG preview is there but the raw data is not correct so cannot be rendered. Here is the error that Canon's own software gives when the files are attempted to be edited:
You should reattempt to copy the images from the memory cards to your computer using a card reader and an operating-system function (Explorer or Finder) to do it rather than LR or a cable connected to the camera, then see if things work any better. If you already used a card reader, then try a different one and see if the situation improves.
If you cannot get a better set of images by retransferring them, then we can work through how to extract the embedded JPG previews en masse. -
Unable to download images from Card reader on Vista Premier Computer
I have been trying to download (Import) .cr2 Raw images and .jpgs from a card reader using LR's downloader with a Vista Premium OS. I have this set to dual boot with XP Media Center 2005 as the other OS.
I installed LR directly on the Vista boot "computer".
After choosing the card reader, it whizzes away and the announces it was unable to download the images.
I can not load images stored on my computer, before installing LR.
This has renered LR useless so far on the Vista booted part of my computer. I am next going to try it on the XP OS.
I wonder if any other earl Vista adapters have been having troubles?
Anyone have a solution?I have not had success, so far, with downloads using Canon's dowloader from my card reader, or having LR try to import files already on my hard drive!
Works just fine on the XP side.
How do you reset prefernces in LR? Is it the same as PE5? -
Images from card reader.
I am using Elements 9 on a Acer Aspire 5742 lap top running Windows 7 home premium. When inserting my memory card from my Nikon D90 It only shows the standard dialog and not the advanced button.
On my desk top machine the adavanced button is visible and can be used in order to deselect images.
Could anyone please tell me a solution.
Thank you. Please post in the Photoshop Elements forum.

I have been importing images via card reader with no problem. Now all of a sudden I can see the images on the screen but when I try to import the computer says that it can not read them and quotes numbers of the images. Any idea how to solve?
Please give us the exact error message.
Please state your operating system.
Please state the exact version of Lightroom you are using.
Please give us any other relevant details.
What does this mean: "Now all of a sudden I can see the images on the screen"? Are you looking in Lightroom or your operating system or the camera screen? Where? -
How do I make camera raw and photoshop cc open when I insert sd card from 6d canon. this canon code was not supported in my cs5 Ps.
I could see you wanting LR ,Bridge or some other image organizer to open. ACR is not a start able application and Photoshop has no feature to import images from your camera's sd media to computers storage devices. I just use Windows File explorer. Look at your OS learn how to change you card reader's autoplay settings. On windows you will find information like this.

My SD card reader won't import images from the SD card. I purchased this product 10 months ago and have had no problem with it up to now. How do I remedy this problem. Using the product allows me to travel without a laptop ...Please help!
Have you tried to give your device a reset? Sometimes that helps with glitches. Hold down the sleep and home keys, past when you see the red power down slider and until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again.
ALso, the card reader will only see files that are formatted correctly. If you just took the images from your computer and put them onto the card, then it won't work. They have to follow a strict naming convention. There has to be a folder named DCIM on the card and then all those images have to have a file name of exactly 8 characters, DSC_3857 for example. Your camera makes this naming structure but if you manually put the photos on that card you may not have replicated it.
Is this a card you've used before? If it's a new card and is empty then the iPad won't read it. Also if it's SDXC it won't read those either (XC cards use a file structure that the iPad can't decipher) -
Image Capture connects to card reader but not camera
Image Capture and iPhoto do not detect new connected Canon camera. Will read card via card reader. Camera will connect to older macbook iPhoto and Image Capture but not my iMac. Image Capture in Mountain Lion has no perferences anymore. Tried Repairing Disk Permissions but no success. Any ideas?
Sorry, there is no setting on the AirPort Extreme card built-in your new iMac that can be tweaked to "force" a connection to the Netgear's "n" network.
Does your Netgear allow for different Network Names (or SSIDs) for each of its radios? If so, you can try an experiment by renaming the 5 GHz radio's Network Name, and then, specifically connect the iMac to it.
Also, since "n" can operate on either radio, it appears that your iMac is "locking" on the 2.4 GHz radio. Does your iMac have any trouble connecting to any other "n" Wi-Fis? If so, then there may be a problem with either the AirPort Extreme card or the internal antennae on the iMac ... and it would warrant a visit to your local Apple Store to have them take a look. -
iphoto 11 is not recognizing jpeg files from either the camera and card reader. Canon Eos rebel dig. Nor will it allow me to transfer images from image capture to iphoto. No problem downloading to image capture.
Sounds like a damaged card. Get your photos off the card with Image Capture and then reformat the card in the camera. Take some pictures and see if the card is recognized by iPhoto and the card reader.

Used my card reader to import images, now see "incompatible JPEG" on images in camera
I have a Canon Power Shot A720 and used the card reader to import photos into the organizer. Now when I go back to erase some images from the camera I see many, but not all, of my 'once' images blacked out with a grey/white box in the center & a yellow question mark. Under the box it says "incompatible JPEG". What does that mean? It's never happened to me before, but I usually import my images directly from the camera.
Hi,
I'm not sure I understand your question since it's been a while since I had
trouble. When I had the trouble I was downloading from my camera and
storing them in the Organizer. My problem came when I edited those images
and RENAMED them. I guess the organizer didn't recognize the renamed
photos? Those were the images which had the yellow check mark. I now use a
card reader only, and I store them in 'Pictures' instead of the PSE
organizer. I haven't had any more problems. I think the Organizer, when
used properly, would be the best choice.....I just couldn't figure it out!
Frankly, I just didn't understand the Organizer and was used to my own
method for storage. I think that's what messed me up. I had help from a
computer technician to retrieve those images, and I haven't had any problems
since.
As for deleting images, I only delete images from my camera by using the
delete on my camera. I never, never delete from my card/camera by using the
prompt from my computer, like "do you want to delete these images from your
camera?"
Good luck!
Donna
I don't if I helped you at all. You're welcome to write back or hope for a

EFilm card reader with a fuji film HD card can't transfer images from iphoto to sd card
I have a MacBook Pro running OSX. I am using an eFilm card reader with an XD picture card. I want to transfer my images from iPhoto on my macbook pro to this XD picture card. iPhoto doesn't recognize the card and photos will not transfer. Help! There was one photo on the card and it successfully transfered from the picture card into iphoto but I can't get it to do the reverse. Thanks so much for the help.
Select the photo(s) in iPhoto and export (file menu ==> export - see this user tip for export options) to a desktop folder and then drag the photos from that folder to the desired location on your XD card
