Images opening in blank tab

I recently had a malware infection but all traces have been removed, except in firefox. The residual effect is that when I am searching google images and right click to open an image in new tab, the new tab window is blank. I have tried running with all plugins disabled in safemode without effect. I have run "search engine reset" from the app area of mozilla. This does not occur with new profiles, nor in privacy windows, only my current profile. I even clean installed mozilla and added my profile from a copy. I can not find the setting in "about:config" "newtab" either. Thus it is a profile issue only, but where is it hiding?
Thanks.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
This can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked (check the permissions on the about:permissions page).
It is possible that the <i>cookies.sqlite</i> file that stores the cookies is corrupted if clearing cookies doesn't work.
Rename (or delete) <b>cookies.sqlite</b> (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like <b>cookies.sqlite-journal</b> in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

  • Right-clicking on links and selecting "Open Link in New Tab" opens a blank tab.

Seems like opening links in new tabs just doesn't work in any fashion. I right-clicked a link (several, actually) to open it in a new tab. It opened a blank tab. No sign of ever acknowledging the link, nothing in the URL bar. Just blank.
Wonder if this is related to my earlier question about opening links from Thunderbird being broken as well...

This code in userChrome.css will move "Open Link in New Window" to the top of the context menu.

the user jay_ff shows how to do it using the Menu Editor Add-on
    1. Install the Menu Editor add-on from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/menu-editor/ .
    2. After the installation, go to Firefox> add-ons (or simply use Ctrl+Shift+A)
    3. Go to the Menu Editor "Options"
    4. In the "Main context menu," simply grab the "Open link in New Tab" and place it below the "Open Link in New Window"
    5. and Voila! You may also change other menu options if you want to!
I tried jay_ff method first and found that indeed changing the Main Context Menu did cause the hotlink context menu to change as well.

  • Firefox opens a blank tab when I open a pdf in adobe.

First of all, I have already gone into the setting and disabled the pdf viewer in Firefox and have it set to open in Adobe. However, when I click on a pdf attachement in an email or anywhere, the pdf now opens in adobe BUT, firefox still opens a blank tab. How do I get this to stop?
The little icon near all my pdfs (in emails and everything) has the little firefox logo in it.
I just want pdf's to open in Adobe with no new tabs opening.

What is the value of the <b>plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types</b> pref on the about:config page?
Does that still contain the default application/pdf value that is used to prevent a plugin from opening?
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

  • Why can't I open a blank tab?

I cannot open a blank tab, when click on the '+' sign next to opened tab(s), a blank tab should open, but for me simply nothing happens, so what do I do to fix this?

Uninstall the '''''Ask Toolbar'''''. It can cause that problem.

  • Can not open new blank tab window from file, new tab.In Tools/Options/Tabs ticked open new windo w in new tab?

Can not open new blank tab window from file, new tab.In Tools/Options/Tabs I have ticked open new window in new tab?

The Ask Toolbar is probably causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13 version. Disable that extension or un-install it.

  • I have lost the "+" on the tabs toolbar, so I can't open a blank tab. How do I fix?

I closed out a tab, and when the tab closed I also lost the "+" button on the toolbar. So I can no longer open a blank tab. It happened only once, but I can't figure out how to get the "+" button back.

You can find the New Tab button showing as a '+' on the Tab bar.<br />
You can open the Customize window and drag the New Tab button from the Tab bar on another toolbar and it will become a regular toolbar button like the New Tab button that you have in Firefox 3 versions.<br />
If you want the New Tab button at the far right end of the Tab bar then place a flexible to the left of it.
    * New tab toolbar button: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-toolbar-button/
If toolbar items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"<br />
If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar<br />
If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up.

  • I am unable to open a blank tab. Just started doing this. Why?

Suddenly my browser will not allow me to open a blank tab. If I go to help or something like that a new tab will open however, clicking "open a new tab" does absolutely nothing. I have done nothing out of the ordinary to cause this as far as I can tell.

First thing to do is to update to Firefox 10.0.10 and then see how it is.

  • Opens multiple blank tabs on start up

Firefox opens 50+ blank tabs on start up. Went through the suggestions, nothing worked. Also will not let me remove Firefox 4.0 from add/remove

I have been experiencing the exact same issue as eddiethered for the past 2 weeks, I'm having 4 old browser tabs open everytime I launch Safari.  This is not an issue of a settings configuration, it is an issue of a bad .plist or cache from what I can tell.  Like eddiethered, I have ensured the following:
My default homepage is about:blank, so upon Safari launch nothing other than a blank page should appear.
It is not an issue of restarting the OS and having "Reopen windows when logging back in" checked off, when I restart I ALWAYS uncheck that - but in the past week the same apps seem to relaunch automatically when they shouldn't.
This is not an issue of previously closing vs quitting the Safari browser, I Command-Q all my apps when I am finished with them.  Even when I hard-quit Safari, the old 4 browser tabs/websites reappear.
This is not a issue of Login Items as I don't have a single application listed as a Login Item for my Username.
I've also noticed other apps having issues (iChat, Chrome).  As of now Firefox is the only browser that is launching without any issues.  Yes an OS reinstall could be an option but that is a substantial amount of effort I don't want to invest.  Due to the other apps having issues this may be an issue at the OS level and not Safari.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Web application opens a blank tab when printing

I use a parts look up program called Microcat , the service is used with either a local database or a server database.
I use the local database option , when the application starts it uses my default browser which is firefox. That part of the application works fine, but when I go to print within the application all I get is either blank tab, or a pop up with a print button that doesn't print.
All these features work fine in IE 10 or 11
I have read through and followed several troubleshooting tips from the Mozilla website.
I can send screen shots if required .
Another thing if I try to print within the browser , all I get is a blank page.

You can attach screen shots here (use the Browse... button below the text box) or post them on an image hosting site and paste the links here.
Firefox has some security restrictions on local folders that other browsers do not have, so that might be an issue. Usually if there is a security restriction, it will be listed in Firefox's Browser Console.
    Try this:
    * Open the Browser Console (Ctrl+Shift+j)
    * This console lists tons of other stuff, so it's usually helpful to "unclick" the CSS button to reduce the clutter
    * Click Clear
    * Then switch over to the page and click the button that launches the blank window
    * Then switch back to the Browser Console and check for errors
    Anything?

  • When I click the home button, it takes me to my home page AND opens a blank tab. How can I get it to stop opening the new tab!

I have igoogle as my hompage. When I click the home button, it will open my igoogle page but also open up a blank tab as well. Firefox didn't always do this, it just started. Maybe when I upgraded to the 5.0. I've tried looking in the options and I can't find something there and there doesn't seem to be a solution on the web. How do I get it to stop doing that?

  • I need to know how to set new tabs to open on my Google homepage instead of opening a blank tab.

I had this feature set before when I was using Firefox 3.6. Now I have FF4 and I can't find an option anywhere to set my tabs so that a new tab opens on Google instead of opening a blank page. I may just be overlooking it, but I can't fin an answer to this through search feature in help on Mozilla. Anyone got an answer for me?

You can do that by using an add-on such as:
    * NewTabURL - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl
    * New Tab Homepage - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage
Another way of opening the home page in a new tab is to middle click on the home button in the navigation toolbar.

  • I clicked on a link to download a file and opened a blank tab

So I clicked on a link to download a pdf file then I went into the download arrow and I clicked on the file. When I clicked on the file it just opened a new blank tab. After try and try again I still can't get it to download the file correctly. I have tired everything. I have the most current version of firefox and my fire wall is not interfering with firefox at all. I don't know if it's the website or something but I am lost.

You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu if you want to display PDF documents in Firefox with another application (i.e. not the built-in PDF Viewer).

  • I have tabs set to open a blank tab, but now each new tab has google search on it.

I don't have google selected as a search engine - I won't use google. I have tabs set to open up a blank tab each time. I want a blank tab, without the google search bar.

'''''about:home''''' isn't used for new tab by default.
The default for the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference is '''''about:newtab'''''. The 3x3 grid of previously viewed webpages can be hidden by using the "Grid" button in the upper-right corner; but as of Firefox 31 a "search container" appears, which isn't hidden via the "Grid" button.
Changing the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference to '''''about:blank''''' should give you a completely blank page when opening a new tab.

  • When I try to open a blank tab I automatically get sent to an untrustworty site. Can anyone help?

This just started happening today. I am concerned as my wife went to a site that had been recommended to her via a phone solicitation last night. I am not sure if this is a coincidence or not.
When I try to open a new blank tab I get redirected to a website that WOT describes as untrustworthy.

Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.
