Images saved by Firefox randomly corrupt? (FF 6.0.2 and 5.0.1)

I've noticed this issue for quite some time. Using Windows XP, images saved from the Internet (right click method) will randomly corrupt. When browsing the thumbnails, certain ones will display a generic JPG icon rather than an actual thumbnail, and the picture cannot be viewed by any software. I'm running FF 5 on a netbook and FF 6 on my desktop system, and BOTH computers are having this issue. The only thing in common here is that Firefox is the browser doing the work. Any idea what could be the problem?

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
* Firefox 7.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
* Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
* Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

  • Images saved in Safari are too small, 145K becomes 8K and grainy?

    Hi folks.
    I just got a 2nd gen iPod Touch, and it's running 2.1.1.
When I save images in Safari or Gmail by tapping and holding on the picture, it saves them, but they're too small. I just saved a 145K jpg, and now it's a grainy 8K image in my Saved Photos album.
    Anybody else having this problem?
    Thanks,
    Brendan

Yes, when I tap on an image in Mail App or from the Safari Browser on my Touch 2G the pictures save to my Saved Photos folder and often they are very "*out of focus*". It is a royal pain in the @$$ because, as I keep saying, the 1st Gen iPod Touch NEVER had these problems.

  • How do I change a previously saved (in Firefox) online username and password that has now changed?

I try to navigate to the login OR homepage of a password protected site and it sends me into a loading loop or "invalid user name" error page (depending on which portal I attempt to enter through). How do I reset the username and password saved in Firefox? I tried deleting the sites and associated passwords in the security options tab already and it hasn't worked.

    Arantha,
Click the document name at the top of the Pages window and choose Browse Versions. See if any of your late changes are there. Also, use Finder to search for files with a similar name, since it's possible that your latest changes were made to a copy of the document and you may be able to find that copy if that's the case.

  • I don't want Firefox to "remember" the folders I've saved in from websites before. How do I return Firefox to its old image saving habits?

I recently got a new computer and upgraded to Firefox 8. Now, when I save an image from a website, Firefox will "remember" and, the next time I save an image, open a random folder that I saved an image in last time I was on that site, and choose to save it there. This wouldn't be a problem if, 1) it wasn't a random folder out of the several I save into, and 2), if I have to cancel out of an image for any reason, the next time I go to save (seconds later, without refreshing/leaving a page), it will have chosen another random folder for me to save in and I'm misplacing my files.
I'd like to return Firefox to the previous image saving habits, where I have to choose the folder each time, and it doesn't "remember" anything that I've done, as it is only causing headaches.

I have been frustrated by the same aggravating Firefox 8 "improvement".
I have several hard drives, several partitions on each hard drive, hundreds of folders on in each partition, and hundreds of subfolders below them. When I am researching something, I download whole Web pages, PDFs, JPEGs, FLVs, and many other files from all over the Web. It is totally frustrating to be taken to different drives all over my computer each time I want to download a new file to the same folder I jut downloaded to. I have to drill up and down drives and folders to get back to where I was.
In previous versions of Firefox, Save As opened in the last folder I saved to, and all I had to do was create a file name and hit Save. In Firefox 8 I am taken to some totally unrelated subfolder on some totally unrelated drive. The folder in which I last downloaded a file from Wikipedia, Fox News, BBC , Flicker, or any other URL usually has absolutely nothing to do with what I am presently researching.
Why would anyone want to make the default download be the desktop? Total clutter and confusion. All I want Firefox to do when I hit the Save As button is to open the same folder I last downloaded '''''anything''''' to irregardless of the URL.
Is there some way via modifying the about:config file that I can change this behavior of Firefox 8?

  • JPG Image saved in CS4 not opening in IE,but works in Firefox

    Hi All,
I have received images from my client which are edited & saved in CS4. But when i m trying to open these images in IE its not opening, but it is opening in Firefox.
Wat is the solution for this??
I m here attaching a file in which i have shown the screenshot of IE and Firefox. And also the properties of images saved in CS3 and CS4.
Please mail me at [email protected]

Are the documents all RGB?  Most browsers don't speak CMYK.
Also, next time, use the camera icon to add an image, don't put them as attachments -- the virus scanning queue for attachments is busted at the moment.

  • Pictures are being saved as firefox document i need them as jpeg image

since installing firefox, i click on a picture which is jpeg image and the save turns it into firefox document. it took a while to get it to save but i can not find where to change this item. i don't know why it changes they come in in the right format. and my business is pictures so i'm starting to freak, a little, alright a lot. thanks mark

When you you right-click to save the picture, type the name of the picture and add .jpeg after the name. e.g. '''mypicture.jpeg''' . It seems that pictures from certain sources (like an iphone sometimes) are causing this problem. Any pictures that you have already saved as firefox documents can be fixed by right-clicking and selecting '''rename''' and adding '''.jpeg''' to the name. This works for all windows operating systems.
(if you have enabled viewing of file extensions in your folder options you will need to delete '''.htm''' from the name before adding '''.jpeg''')

  • Where does Firefox store images saved as desktop wallpaper?

Where does Firefox store images saved as desktop wallpaper? i was playing around with windows theme and I can't find the wallpaper that was displayed before.

Firefox saves downloads to wherever you specify. Check your settings in Tools > Options > General, Download section. If you have it set to "Always ask me where to save files", then only you know where they were saved.

Firefox is suddenly not remembering or filling in any of my passwords. All of the appropriate boxes are checked in the options/security tab, but it won't remember any passwords and shows none saved. How do I get it to remember and fill in my passwords again?

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
If the latter happens then you have a problem with cookies that are not kept or the file that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie that you must allow: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Exceptions"
Make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the 'Cookies' and the 'Site Preferences'.
Make sure that you not run Firefox in [[Private Browsing]] mode.
In Private Browsing mode some menu items are disabled (grayed) and some features like visited links and others are disabled and not working.
You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing".

  • Firefox when saving a "complete html" file is downloading a folder and "2" copies of the html file not one. One of these has the same name but "0" kb content

Hi. The only save options for a full html type file on Firefox is as "web page, complete" and as I say when saving with Firefox the program is saving the usual yellow folder with links and artwork files etc, but is saving 2 copies of the HTML file where on of these files is empty, won't open and gets locked to the destination it was saved to. This empty file can't be moved, and can't be deleted. When this is attempted it gives message "cannot delete (or "move" if this is the case) : Cannot read from the source file or disc."
To overcome this I now use Internet Explorer, dut prefer not to. I have also deleted Firefox from my system and re-installed it, but this did not help. How can I stop this doubling of saved files? and how can I delete the ones that are now fixed to my desktop? can you lease help?

You said, ''Would like to sort this one out...any clues?''

  • CS6 Images saved not showing image in preview finder to upload or open.

When saving images in CS6 I can see them as preview icons of the image in finder by itself, but if I open a file in photoshop to find an image, i only have titles and not the images. ALSO when I go to upload an image to blog or facebook, again I have no image icon of what is there, only a blank space and a file name.  I HATE THIS as it makes it takes too much time to figure out where the picture is. I am a graphic artist and a painter and I cannot work like this. HELP PLEASE. Does not matter what type of file.. tiff, png, jpg etc... there is no image to see when opening through photoshop or any upload situation.  I am able to see the images from FINDER by itself or if I am placing them into MUSE or INDESIGN.
SO I am totally confused why I cannot see them to load on blogger or facebook or to open them in photoshop.

  • Images Problem in Firefox -- very weird -- please help!

Hi all, I need your help here with ideas...
I have built a site that is 100% Flex, full size.  It uses images in two different ways: Image controls and HTML text.  Both are populated dynamiccally from XML resources.
In IE, these all work perfectly.  But I get some very weird behavior in Firefox.
I have a list with a custom item renderer using Images.  When the user clicks on the list, a pop-up Canvas is displayed with the same image and an Text area with htmlText in-line Images. In Firefox, these images do not populate -- neither the table nor inside the text -- but the text shows perfectly, even spaced around where the image would be.
But elsewhere in the application, I have an Image control populated the same way, except driven by a datagrid selection, and that one WORKS FINE.  I also have other Text areas using htmlText, populated the same way, and the in-line Images work great there in Firefox.
    What is going on???

I think I figured it out.
The slashes in the image paths went the wrong direction. \ in stead of /
Apparently, this is no problem for IE, but chokes Firefox.  Keep an eye out.

Every time I right click on an image and select Download image Firefox crashes . I have reinstalled; uninstalled and deleted folders and then reinstalled; added no plugins; checked I can DL the same images in IE-works good.I use Win7 pro and it works in other profiles in Windows 7. I created a new profile in Windows and that worked for about 2 months and now that has gone the same way as my admin profile has done. I deleted the sqlite download file-still same prob..Please help. I use Firefox 13.0.1

    That sounds very frustrating.
By the way, does it say "Download image" or "Save Image As"? Just checking whether you have an add-on downloader in the mix that might be relevant. If you do have an add-on, try using the built-in command.
Do you also crash if you save from here:
right-click page > View Page Info > Media tab > (select image) > Save As
I assume you have seen this article and tried these things: [[What to do if you can't download or save files]].
Have you tried the new Reset feature in Firefox 13? This duplicates certain key data from your active settings folder into a new one, bypassing some add-ons and custom settings. Your plugins will still be active, but could be disabled manually if you like.
More information in this article: [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]].
If the new settings folder has the same problem, you can switch back if you like using Firefox's Profile Manager.
    Does it make any difference?

  • How do I delete a password I accidentally saved on Firefox 4.0b11?

As Firefox 4.0b11 does not have a Tools Menu to access, I don't know how to delete a password that I accidentally saved through the browser. As I want to protect my personal information, it is important that I learn how to do this to ensure everything is secure. Going forward, how can I eliminate the box that comes up asking me if I want to remember the password? I never want the passwords to be stored.

In Firefox 4 you can press F10 or use "Firefox > Customize" to make the Menu Bar and other toolbars visible and remove the check-mark on "Tabs on Top" to place the tab bar in the old position.<br />
You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden (View > Toolbars > Customize or right-click a toolbar).<br />
If you need to access the hidden Menu bar then press F10 or hold down the Alt key to make the Menu Bar appear temporarily.<br />

  • Colour profiles problem - images saving too dull. Please help.

I realise you have probably had this question a million times before and I have looked at enough related threads, but I am still at a loss as to what to do. Please note I'm not the most computer-savvy.
For the record I am using Photoshop 7 (yes it's old, but it suits my needs just fine!) and Windows Vista Home Premium.
What I do is take photographs of my artworks, edit them in Photoshop until they look accurate, then post them online. Images have always looked identical in every program, and I had never had any problems, until I got connected to the Internet on Tuesday. This computer has not been connected to the net for a good few years, and so lots of updates got installed. I'm not sure which ones exactly, as my boyfriend took care of that, but I'm convinced this has caused the problems I am having now:
First I found that an image I had edited and saved as .jpg for web use was showing up overly saturated and contrasty in the Windows Photo Gallery preview. I assumed I had saved it wrongly. I re-opened the jpg in Photoshop to check - it looked exactly as I had saved it. I figured something had messed up with Photo Gallery during updates, so I uploaded the jpg to the Internet. The image that uploaded was the overly-saturated, contrasty one.
After realising that suddenly ALL the images I had uploaded online, and all the images saved on my computer, now had this awful over-saturated look, and yet the thumbnails on my desktop looked fine... I realised it must be something to do with the colour profiles, and tried to find out the answer online. My monitor colour profile was set to "21.5 inch monitor" so I changed that to sRGB as default. I can't remember what Photoshop was set to, but at any rate I set it to sRGB also.
I thought I had it fixed, as it seemed to just be Photo Gallery that was not matching up (it was displaying my images with less saturation than as I saved them).
However today I took a new photo of a drawing I'm working on, to load onto my blog. I had to take it into Photoshop to make edits and correct, as always. I opened my photo in Photoshop... lo and behold, far too contrasty and saturated!!
This time, Windows Photo Gallery preview is showing the (unedited, straight out of camera) photo as it should be... Photoshop opens it too contrasty.
I made my edits anyway, saved for web as .jpg, checked the jpg in Photo Gallery before uploading... It saved duller than it should have done!
Uploaded the jpg to the internet... and I have the dull image uploaded.
So first they were too contrasty, now they're too dull. I have tried to follow advice given on similar topics, to no apparent avail.
Being an artist who displays work online and has a certain reliance on the internet... my images have to be accurate and consistent all the way through. Is there anything I can do to set things back to the way they were before?
    I appreciate any help.

eartho - All my images are already converted to the sRGB colourspace by default, as far as I can tell. My images out of camera, the ones I have edited and saved as jpg - I even checked some old images. Through Mode/Convert to Profile, they're all already set to sRGB.
emil emil - Thank you. I will do that in the morning - right now my head hurts and I need my bed.
