Images still soft

I have read several threads on this and my images are still soft when posted on iweb. I tried the program Downsize and they still don't look great. Any advice would be appreciated. Take a look if you don't mind.

To my untrained eye, the images in your blog look perfectly acceptable as web images. Also, you've done a great job avoiding iWeb's jpg-to-png conversion by using the photos at their native resolution, making your pages very fast-loading.
You can probably educate me on this, but here's what I've noticed. Taking jpg compression out of the picture, reducing a photo's size seems to usually result in a sharper looking image.... I mean, there is loss of detail globally but the major contrasting edges look sharper. Add jpg compression back into the equation and the opposite happens. A previously sharp image becomes softer when reduced and further compressed.
Do you think compensating for this perceived effect by using an unsharpen mask function prior to compression might make things better?

Camera Raw problem; images appearing soft and without definition on import

Can anyone help? I am having problems with ACR version 4.6 ( I cannot upgrade ACR without upgrading to CS5). When I open a RAW image in ACR, the image appears soft, and with poor definition. As a result, they have failed quality control for upload to the Alamy picture library, despite having been shot with a Nikon D3. I am simply opening them with ACR defualts, then opening to photoshop.
The files open fine in Lightroom and Nikon Capture NX, however I prefer to use ACR for my workflow. Any suggestions? I don't what to shekll out for CS% if the problem is still there.

Have you tried resetting defaults? It sounds like either your Camera Raw default settings have been changed, or sharpening has been set to Previews only.
1. Open an image in Camera Raw, select the Details tab, and check that setting are like defaults: Amount 25, Radius 1.0, Details 25, Masking 0. You can always reset defaults from the little menu icon on the right of the panel title.
2. Check Camera Raw preferences, looking for the item: 'Apply Sharpening to:' and make sure it says 'All images'.
You might want to check other preferences too, especially the 'make defaults specific' settings, which, when used, create multiple default settings depending on camera and ISO.

How do I delete photos etc. that are in my Finder. Iclick on it to put in trach and it is put in put the image still remains

When I joined Facebook, and clicked on the person's pictures, I didn't realize I was downloading those pictures. I went to the Finder today and under Searches I went to all images. Could not believe how many pictures etc. were there. I am trying to get rid of them but even when I put it in the trach, the image still remains. I want to get rid of them. Help. I am not computer savvey.

Haven't used Finalcut for ages, but decided to give it an other go, but when I play the still images, they turn soft. Am I going crazy?

Nathan's solution is probably corect. If after rendering they still look soft, also check your playback preferences to see that they are set for Use Original or Optimized and Best Quality.

Raw Images still Icons only

After the latest round of updates from Adobe for Windows Bridge (Win7 62 and 34) I have the problem of all raw images showing up as icons in Bridge. The images will open in the converter fortunately but it would be nice to see what the image is before double clicking on it. I have followed all of Adobe's instructions but the problem persists. Deleting and reinstalling the raw plug-in does not fix the problem. I have had every glitch with Adobe Bridge ever reported since the very first version and a few unusual ones that Adobe support, in Microsoft fashion, denied could possibly exist. (Rant about perpetually incompetent Adobe programmers deleted).Apart from a complete program re-install (which is likely pointless as the latest Camera Raw upgrade will still be corrupted) is there a solution for this competely disastrous upgrade from Adobe?

Sadly: deactivate, uninstall, reinstall. If you have many plug-ins, particularly if they have Aobe-like activation restrictions, that must be considered.
When Photoshop does what it is supposed to do it is a wonderful tool.
But.
It is not clear why Adobe has not been able, or has not tried, to correct the many problems with Bridge since version 1. These are the two most bothersome problems I experience regularly. Adobe says the problems are unique to me but I doubt it since I have had the same issues on at least a dozen machines of all types:
Bridge tends to freeze if it has been opened for a long time and many images have been opened through Bridge; only rebooting the computer will solve this.
More often than not after a long sessiion in Bridge/CS-anyversion it is impossible to re-open Bridge, once closed, without rebooting the computer.
Both these issues exist in Windows XP/Vista/7 in both 32 and 64 bit versions of the OS and Photoshop and in every version of Bridge I have been afflicted with.
In CS5 I have not lost custom workspace arrangements, a frequent problem in prior versions, but I have lost the ability to preview raw images: which is worse?
These are not issues with the Windows OS but are specific to Adobe programming of a $600 program for Windows.
If I am going to work on a specific image I frequently open it directly from the desktop in order to avoid Bridge entirely because I never know what I am going to get.

"Insufficient data for an image" still occurs with Adobe Reader 11.0.02

I have upgraded to Adobe Reader 11.0.02 although I still recieve the "Insufficient data for an image" error when viewing some PDF files.

This message only comes up when editing.
I've been trying to recreate different scenarios and it seems that it is constantly happening when I delete a page and try to save the PDF. After deleting a page, when I try to save I get this:
When I try to close out it lets me save but then viewing the PDF I get this:
When this happens, we are missing signatures or chunks of texts above the signatures, or even whole pages of text.
We have never had this issue before and we do edit PDF's all the time.

"Removed" images still appear in MobileMe gallery online

1. Made a MobileMe gallery in Aperture
2. Published it. Gallery appears OK on MobileMe.
3. In Aperture, removed two images from album (Right-click->Remove From Album)
4. Sync from Aperture, expecting images to disappear from MobileMe online
5. Pictures that were removed appear again in Aperture
6. Remove pictures again, re-sync, multiple times
7. Removed pictures finally stay gone in Aperture, but are still on MobilMe
How do I delete them from the online gallery?

I haven't experienced this, but you can always go delete them on the sever side. e.g., logon to the Mobile Me site and delete them from the gallery there. It does sounds like a temporary syncing glitch as mentioned above.

Copy Settings to multiple images - STILL A NOT WORKING AFTER MANY VERSIONS!

I have reported the problem of pasting settings to multiple images for many versions and this simple bug is STILL present in LR4!
In develop module, make changes to an image, click Copy button, select settings to copy.
Now, select a range or a number of images to which you want to paste the settings, click Paste button. Guess what? Only the first image gets the settings!
This functionality should work and is even documented in the manual. There are other ways of copying settings but I can never remember how to do this.
Am I doing something wrong or is this a genuine bug that only seems to affect a few people (I did a web search for V3), or do people just not use this function?
Please developers, fix this bug if it really is a bug!

I guess I am just frustrated that the program does not work the way it is documented. There are two very prominent buttons, Copy & Paste and they don't work as documented or as you would expect them to.
With sync you have to navigate menus to do what one click of the mouse should accomplish. All I want is some acknowledgement from Adobe that this is a bug and for it to be adressed. As a long-time IT person I know this would be VERY easy to fix. If it cannot be fixed then update the documentation.
Oh well, enough said. I still love LR!!!

Images Still Not Loading

Hi,
Please could someone tell me how to make the images sent via e-mail appear in the message on my iPhone.
I have turned on and off the "Load Remote Images" button in Settings. Images are still not loading, all I get is a square where the picture should be and a blue box with a "?" in the middle. Should I delete mail account first, reboot the iPhone, etc.
In an idiot proof fashion could someone please tell me how to get this to work, i.e.
1. Delete the mail account.
2. Turn off or on, Load Remote Images.
3. Add Mail Account.

My solution to this issue is that I had to turn OFF remote images. Turn off my iPhone completely, turn my iPhone back on then turn remote images back ON again. And all seems to be well now

Images look soft in webpage

When I insert my images into the webpage template and they turn soft, even when they were very sharp to begin with. This also happens in Pages. Has anyone experienced this? And does anyone know how to prevent this from happening? When I set up a photo gallery this doesn't happen. My site is for my photography business and obviously I want to demonstrate that I can take tack-sharp pictures! Can anyone help?

The only time I've found this to happen is if I try to enlarge an image by resizing it within iWeb (but not always).
When drag dropping an image into iWeb or via the Image Browser reducing an image works well comoared to enlarging. What i could suggest is use the adhustment tool and in VERY small incerements use the sharpen slider.
If you have Photoshop (full version) use the unsharp mask tool on the image once you have resized it in Photoshop.

N97: Deleted images still appear as thumnails

I deleted some images and videos from my N97 using the Mass Memory connection via my PC.
They are definitely gone from the phone, however they are still showing up in the photo app on the phone. When I click on the thumbnail of a photo, I even get a detailed view, but after trying to zoom in the photo app crashes. I can't delete the image, the error message says "general system error".
For videos that show up in the photo app, when I select them it says "Unable to connect to server: File not found".
Also, trying to delete the thumbnail results in the same general error.
Any solutions?

Try this... Connect your N97 using Mass Storage mode. If you have Windows, open up the drive associated with the N97 under My Computer. Before going anywhere, make sure you have your Windows Explorer set to show hidden files as well. Go to Tools > Folder Options > View. Somewhere in there you'll see a branch called "Hidden files and folders". Select "Show hidden files and folders". Hit Apply and Ok.
Now, you'll see in your mass storage drive a folder called "Private". Open Private > 101ffc31. Then delete glxmdstn. Unplug your phone, and re-open your Photos app. See if that helps. (Weird thing is that even if you use Y-browser and have it signed with the full 17-capability certificate, the Y-browser still can't see this Private folder! So no use trying to find the folder or file in Y-browser.)
Caveat: There is a slight bug with the N97. If you have apps installed to the built-in bigger drive, while connected in mass storage mode, all your apps installed there will disappear, as if you lost your apps. Not to worry, that's because in mass storage mode, the phone OS is prevented from accessing that internal drive. Once you unplug the USB cable, everything will go back to normal. This is not a bug, but the bug is this:
If you have your Messaging app set to store messages in this internal drive ("E: mass memory"), then after unplugging the phone, your Messaging app will seem like you have lost all your text messages and mailboxes. Before you freak out, do not try to rebuild your mailboxes. The data is still in the internal drive. Simply go to the Messaging app > Options > Settings > Other and change the "Memory in use" back to "E: Mass memory". Go back to your Messaging app, and all your SMS and mailboxes and emails will be back there. The only thing is that if you have the email widget set in your home screen, then you'll have to choose a default Mailbox again. This is an annoying bug...

my conclusion is that it seems java can't provide a huge graphics environment for drawing in a transparent manner, I think.
let's suppose I have a huge tiledImage. 20,000 x 20,000 pixels
now I want to draw a huge circle, radius = 10,000, center is the same square center
just an example, to clarify my doubt
when I request a Graphics2D context to draw this circle, tiledImage will intelligently and transparently request the necessary tiles to draw this circle, or I would have to code manually something to grab these tiles, calculate what to draw in each one and manage the tile cache?

Panning and scaling image stills - jerky playback

when I render out a movie of my project that has still images that are
panning and zooming the playback of those stills is a bit jerky
How can get the motion so its smooth and does'nt stutter
any help would be very helpfull

Below a scenario that has been driving my nuts, nuts :
On ANY Mac when viewing in quicktime the following applies:
(Before anyone is tempted to say 'But my Mac will play back 1080p' - mine TOO.... But NOT when moving 1080x1920 pixels

1) Boot up you Mac
2) Prior to launching ANY others apps, launch the quicktime player with the 1080p pan
3) Use the Plus-Minus keys to set the QT window to half size.
4) Hit play. Shot play wonderfully.
5) Open Premiere Pro or After Effects and do an hour's worth of intensive work.
7) Close all the adobe apps.
8) Open the QT player and try step 3 and 4 again.
On my Mac which is about as fast as they come... THAT movies which used to playback VERY smooth now looks as if
someone is having an epileptic seizure !
Do a restart and it all looks smooth again. Work an hour in the two a.m. apps or other apps for that matter and your are back
epileptic seizures....
No matter how much one would like his movies to playback on a computer..... As of today, I have yet to come accross
a CPU capable of moving 1080x1920 pixels SMOOTHLY over an extended period of time.
Hopefully, the future holds more for CPU-viewing of Video !!!

E-520 images still not showing up after latest RAW update.

I did the new RAW update today, but still just blank boxes when I try to import images from my Olympus E-520. Anyone else having this problem?

I'd like to update this post. Seems the RAW files ARE importing to Aperture, however prior to import they just show up as blank boxes.
In other words, when I select the import arrow and then select my CF card, then select the project I want to import to, the screen fills with blank preview boxes. I hit "Import All" anyway and then the actual images do import to the Aperture library.
Also, I am still unable to see the the previews in the desktop finder window or in the Preview program.
Again, is anyone else having this problem or know what may be causing it?

Rendering of Nikon D800 NEF images still slow in LR 5.2

Hi,
I just checked whether the update to 5.2 would improve speed of rendering images in the Develop module for Nikon D800 NEF files but alas, LR is still taking its time to render images and going back and forth between two or more D800 NEF files to check focus at 100% magnification remains an excercise in meditation....
I had initially hoped that the move from LR 4.x to LR 5 would improve things but this wasn't the case - so when will Adobe finally catch up with the development in cameras with ever bigger files? The Nikon D800 came out one full year ago...
Has anyone looked into this issue and found workarounds (for instance by using the new Smart previews)?

Yes - speed is improved by using smart previews. Contrary to how some people think it should be, you may need to take them offline for maximum performance benefit, but note: when doing so you will no longer be able to view at 100% magnification. - try it and please report any differences you find, or don't find...
There are some system issues that may affect performance too, but trying to lay them all out here is beyond scope for me, and anyway has been done in numerous other threads.
PS - Consider giving numbers so other D800 users (or equivalent resolution) can help give you a feel for whether you're experiencing normal slow or abnormal slow.
