Images stopped displaying by default.

About a week ago (+/-), mail suddenly quit displaying attached images as part of incoming emails. I have to select "View>Message>Previous Alternative" or type Apple-] to show them. I had been playing with preferences in mail but I can't find anything that has an effect. I also used OnyX, but set that back to "defaults" and removed it just in case it was the problem. No soap.
What did I mess up? Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hello Bill.
These are indeed attached files to the message which can be confirmed by the Attachments line at the bottom of the message header?
If you must use Plain Text Alternative or any of the other selections available at View > Message, this indicates the received message was composed in HTML.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Viewing.
Is "Display remote images in HTML messages" selected?
If not, you should select this and if there are any remote images or objects that must be rendered, there will be a Load Images selection on a blue border above the message header.

    <itunes:image> stopped displaying?
    This podcast in iTunes Store displayed the same image provided in the RSS feed for a couple of years.
    This feed is generated by Quick Blogcast.
    I am not sure exactly when or why but at some point the iTS stopped displaying the image.
    I tried changing the image (300x300 .JPG) with different file name in the podcast feed source.
    Waited a few days.
    Image still not displaying in iTunes Store.
    Any suggestions - next steps?
    Thank you in advance for any guidance.

    Images wont load in preview mode either.

  • Why has Lightroom 4 stopped displaying my images?

    I was scrolling through my image libary in thumbnail mode - quite fast as I was looking for certain groups of images to keyword them.  I had been doing this for some time and then suddenly it just stopped displaying the images - the thumbnails were just empty.  I thought they would render after a few seconds but they didn't.  I then scrolled back up and none of the images were being displayed.  Lightroom would then not close properly so I had to force quit.  Computer wouldn't shut down properly either - I assume Lightroom was still doing something in the background.  When I restarted the computer and opened Lightroom the same problem was the same - no images at all being displayed.  Everything seems fine on the hard drive when I look outside of Lightroom so the images are there, and all the folders are still in place in the Lightroom catalogue - just not displaying images.  Any ideas?

    Re-installing LR very rarely changes anything...
    Did you install some other software recently?
    Is your preferences file ok? ...just thinking of one *of the usual suspects*... [on Win7  C:\Users\<youruser>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences\Lightroom 4 Preferences.agprefs] ... you can rename the existing one and let LR recreate a new one.
    Recreating as suggested above would not mean your total catalog, but all your previews - if we suspect the previews folder of corruption.
    Speaking of usual suspects: try the last backups of your catalog, if they show the same behaviour? ...to rule out some corruption of your working catalog...
    You optimize your catalog regularly, e.g. before creating the backup? If not, you could also try that.
    If none of your catalogs works, then create a fresh test catalog and import a few images and render their previews, to see if it is actually your LR installation with the problem.
    Did you try LR4.3RC already? This might make more sense than re-installing an older version.
    Good luck, Cornelia

  • Why has mac mail stopped displaying images in emails?

    upgraded to ML when it came out, all fine, but 2 weeks ago, mail suddenly stopped displaying any images in my emails.
    how do i get them back???

    Re:  my Mac also JUST stopped showing embedded images in my email several weeks back.  I've done it all to fix it including reloading mail program but still no luck.  this is really ticking me off because I can not even tell what the emails are about.  what the heck, doesn't someone from Apple review these posts once in a while.

  • My firefox has suddenly stopped displaying web pages only instead the full HTLM

    My Foxfire 3.6.13 stopped displaying webpages in full HTML and now only displaying them in text. Like for instance, my homepage is set for www.earthlink.com, but instead displaying as a full HTML, Firefox displays as TEXT page. I don't doing anything my Firefox settings to change this; so what do I do to get it back?

    The screenshot didn't attach.
    Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).

  • Overriding DPI of images when displaying them in WPF

    Posting following because it might help someone else. It took me quite
    while to figure this one out.
    I started learning C# and WPF recently. I hadn't had so much fun since the
    late 1990s when I learned Java.
    But I stumbled on one major irritant working on my project, a picture viewer.
    Contrary to just about every environment I've encountered, WPF insists on
    taking the DPI of images into consideration when displaying them. What I want
    is to display the images in some area of my app, pixel-for-pixel unless that
    results in the picture going beyond the frame, in which case the image
    needs to be scaled down so it fits. I don't want to have a larger image because
    the DPI is smaller than 96, and I don't want a smaller image because the DPI
    is higher than 96.
    As far as I'm concerned, DPI is more often than not a useless number. Two
    examples.
    1) My camera arbitrarily assigns a DPI value of 72 to all pictures it takes.
       But what "inches" are we talking about here? Obviously there is no answer
       to that question. So it's a meaningless number.
    2) If I scan a 35 mm color slide, I will probably do so at a DPI value of
       something like 2400, but I'd sure want to display the resulting image much
       larger. By default, WPF will show it at original size, totally useless.
       The DPI here is certainly meaningful, but not as a display parameter!
    I compared two images from same original (leware.net/photo/dpi.html),
    one resized to a DPI of 48, the other to a DPI of 192. In a hex editor,
    except for the one byte that encodes the DPI value, the two files are
    identical. It's the same image, with a different DPI value, but no other
    differences.
    So how do I get a WPF picture viewer to display images without taking their
    DPI into consideration? As every browser and viewer I know will do?
    At first, I thought that I would be able to do something like:
        BitmapImage img = new BitmapImage();
        img.BeginInit();
            img.UriSource = new Uri(somePathOrUrl);
            img.DpiX = 96.0;   // override
            img.DpiY = 96.0;
        img.EndInit();
    But DpiX and DpiY are "get" only, not "set". Yet, it's just a simple number,
    and changing it before WPF does anything with the image does not sound like a
    big challenge (even when waiting for DownloadCompleted event). It's almost as
    if the WPF designers decided that WPI was sooo important that they would never
    allow anyone to modify the value...
    The first approach I tried used RenderTargetBitmap (created at 96 DPI),
    DrawingVisual, DrawingContext classes. Seems quite complex. It worked, but
    I wouldn't call it elegant.
    After much browsing (and with improving understanding), I found a better approach.
    In simple terms, I set the Image's Width and Height to PixelWidth and PixelHeight
    (which essentially makes the resulting DPI to be 96), and I set the Image's
    MaxWidth and MaxHeight to the space available to the Image in the app, to force
    scaling if the source is too large. I used Stretch=Uniform. Code fragments below.
    The Image is placed in a UniformGrid container which provides the MaxWidth and
    MaxHeight, and which centers the Image inside.
    This approach is quite a bit more elegant, it removed nearly 100 lines of code
    from the app. I still think though that it's not as simple as it could be.
    I had also read about "DPI awareness", didn't really understand it, but it seems
    to deal with DPI of display device, not of source images.
    So two questions:
    1) Is there a even easier way, esp. a way to directly modify or ignore an image's
       DPI values before using it (without copying the image into some new bitmap)?
    2) Barring that, is there something simpler than above?
    Note that I'm fine with the application being otherwise DPI aware (fonts,
    buttons, &c).
    Thanks
    WPF code fragments of the trivial application I used to fine-tune the second
    approach. The two images are 160x100 pixels (but any pair of images smaller
    than the display will do the trick), one at DPI 48, one at DPI 192, and named
    IMG_6726s48.jpg and IMG_6726s192.jpg. The both show at the same size, as I
    wanted.
    To see the original problem as I experienced it, set Stretch=None and comment
    out the two pairs of lines that set image.Width and image.Height.

                BitmapImage isrc = image.Source as BitmapImage;
                image.Width = isrc.PixelWidth;       // "ignores" DPI (redundant here
                image.Height = isrc.PixelHeight;
                image.MaxWidth = grid.ActualWidth;   // prevents scaling to larger than 1:1
                image.MaxHeight = grid.ActualHeight;
                lpvMessage.Text = "grid.ActualSize=" + grid.ActualWidth + "x" + grid.ActualHeight +
                    " image.ActualSize=" + image.ActualWidth + "x" + image.ActualHeight +
                    " isrc.PixelSize=" + isrc.PixelWidth + "x" + isrc.PixelHeight +
                    " image.Stretch->" + ((image.Stretch == Stretch.None) ? "None" : "Uniform");
            private void buttonClick(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
                Button b = sender as Button;
                string dpi = b.Content as string;
                changeImage(dpi);

    Being able to ignore DPI is all I'm asking for, and what I've always done for decades
    If the objective is to fill the Window, then yes, it's simple, as the following example of a thumbnail image shows:
    <Grid>
    <Image Source="http://leware.net/temper/42fp.jpg"/>
    </Grid>
    Result below. DPI doesn't matter, pixel sizes don't matter, the source fills the Image control, while respecting the proportions.
    But I don't want the image to fill the space available if it doesn't have enough pixels, it looks fuzzy and I don't like that.
    So I add Stretch=None to the Image control, and it solves my problem, the image is shown at a size that corresponds to its pixel size (63x87), centered.
    <Grid>
    <Image Source="http://leware.net/temper/42fp.jpg" Stretch="None"/>
    </Grid>
    The above two XAML fragments give the following results:
    The second is what I want. So Stretch=None, unless the image is larger than display area, in which case Stretch=Uniform.
    Now I try my two test images, also with Stretch=None because they are smaller than display area.
    These two images are both 160x100 pixels, and, when compared in a hex editor, differ
    only in the couple of bytes that store the DPI value (0x0030 vs 0x00c0),
    all the rest is the same.
    <Grid>
    <Image Source="http://leware.net/photo/IMG_6726s48.jpg" Stretch="None"/>
    </Grid>
    and
    <Grid>
    <Image Source="http://leware.net/photo/IMG_6726s192.jpg" Stretch="None"/>
    </Grid>
    Here's what I see:
    DPI obviously does matter here, much to my surprise. WPF's behavior was unexpected. That was my original problem.
    The DPI 48 image is enlarged by a factor of 2, the 192 DPI image is reduced by a factor of 2. What I want is in between, and the same for both images, a display based only on pixel sizes, like most browsers and picture viewers do.
    In other words, I want one image pixel to be one display pixel, downsized to fit if the image is too large, but never enlarged beyond 1:1 to fill the available space.
    I had a hard time figuring out how to get those two small images to show identically.
    I finally got what I wanted with the solution at the top of this thread (overriding size of Image control instead of DPI). I'm sharing because it might help someone else.
    Is there a better way to handle this when the DPI is arbitrary? Isn't there a way to just tell WPF to ignore images' DPI values or simply override it (force an image's DPI to 96)?
    Quite possibly I'm trying to do something which does not quite fit in the philosophy of WPF. Maybe I'm closer now, I'm still learning (this discussion is helping).
    I won't be surprised if my application misbehaves when the DPI of the display is not 96. Not a concern for now.

  • Mail stopped displaying attachments, shows generic full-screen icon

    I have been an iPhone user since 2008, and until recently, never had a problem with mail attachments. I know how they work: I need to tap to download them first, sometimes I even need to download the entire message, etc. I have successfully viewed thousands of attachments over the years.
    However, a few months ago it just stopped working. JPG, Word, Excel, PDF, etc., attachment are shown at the end of the message with their appropriate icons, and I can tap on them, as before. Tapping will get me to the attachment view screen, as before. However, what's different is that the "attachment view screen" is just a light grey gradient with a generic document icon, a file name, and a description of the file type (see below).
    This can happen in all of my mail accounts, so it shouldn't be a server setting. But there are differences:
    On Gmail, images usually display correctly, but not Office files
    On Exchange, nothing displays correctly
    When I forward the mail to myself in order to fix the issue, the following may happen:
    Forwarding an affected message from my iPhone will just kill the attachment. It will be replaced by a content-free HTML file
    Forwarding the affected message from my at work PC to my Gmail account will solve the problem, I will be able to open the message on my iPhone, even if it's a Microsoft Office file
    Forwarding an affected message from my PC to my Exchange account doesn't solve the problem.
    This looks like a bug. Any idea why it suddenly appeared recently? Anyone with a similar experience? Any solutions?
    Thanks a lot, everyone!

    SOLVED!
    The culprit was "Spaces" -- I had my work apps in one Space and my others in a second Space.
    When Spaces got in the way, I disabled it. That's when the windows disappeared!
    Note to Apple: When "Spaces" is disables, allow all windows to open in the "null" window!

  • Wrong contact image is displayed in mail

    When I send an email my wife's contact photo is displayed in the sent and inbox folders. My MacPro is configured as a single user where I am the administrator. My wife has a laptop where she is configured as the administrator and sole user but she doesn't have this problem. Her contact photo displays correctly.
    I suspect this has something to do with converting to iCloud where the address book is distributed between my wifes macbook pro, an iphone and an ipad2, but I'm not sure.  My attempt at solving this problem consisted of dragging different contact photos (two of them are my wife's picture) into the image box and now I have 12 different photos but no way to clear them (Clear Custom Image is grayed out because I am the administrator I guess). I would like to clear out all contact photos in my address book for me (administrator) and start over with one photo and maybe mail will stop displaying my wife's picture.  Any ideas to help me out will be appreciated?

    In the switch to iCloud (my wife and I run idential MacBooks) Lion 10.7.2 I've noticed that my prefered log-in photo for my account keeps reverting back to a green leaf image.  I, too, believe that this has something to do with iCloud and syncing between our two computers.  Unfortunately I've not found a way to overcome this small glitch.  I've changed the green leaf back to my photo several times and locked the padlock to prevent changes but the green leaf keeps coming back ack aack!

  • Images are displayed wrong in firefox

    Hello!
    I am a photographer, uploading images in png to my gallery at deviantart.com. I noticed that the images are displayed wrongly in firefox - but in IE9 and Opera they are shown correctly. I have tried with different color management settings in about:config but none of that has solved the problem. I would like to know why it is that firefox can't show the colours correctly, like opera and IE?
    If it's impossible to fix I will just simply have to stop using firefox which would be a shame when I have been using the browser for many years. The problem has not existed earlier.
    Best regards

    That image for instance. And I save them using Adobe RGB since thtat's the colour space I work in, but this has never been a problem before.

  • Why is the logo image not displaying in Firefox?

    The logo image for one of my sites is not displaying. The alt info for the image is being displayed. This is a relatively new problem. In older versions of Firefox the image displayed fine. The image also displays fine in Webkit browsers and IE10. This is a Firefox specific problem. The main URL for the site is: http://sabaki.aisites.com/dbs323/project/masterAi.php
    If you go to that URL in Firefox you'll see "logo gif" split onto two lines and before the "COTin" text. If you view the same URL in Chrome or IE10, you'll see the image. I have screenshots of the problem, but there is no way to include them here.

    Works fine here.

    Hi there,
    Has anyone notice any problems with images in dynamic PDF

    The only new addition was a SSL for the site.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Isaac.
    My reason for posting that I was trying the src="file://E:\ solution before putting it in CFDocument was that I figured if it didn't work with the browser, it probably wouldn't work with CFDocument, which was probably presumptuous of me.  I just tried using the IP Address instead of E:\etc and it shows up in the browser.  Good news, the IP Addresses fix the logo problem, but not the CFChart problem.
    Here's the failed img tag:
